“Don’t be shy okay?” Edward whispered her way as they walked into the mansion which had few people in it.
They might be few but Tessa knew that everyone present in the room had enough power to control a big enterprise.
“There’s Connor” Edward said and she followed his gaze to see Connor talking to a fat middle age man and by his side was Clarissa who looked as prim as a princess.
“Now, all you have to do is to follow my lead. Can you do that?” Edward asked and she gave a nod.
If he thinks Clarissa is better than her then she would work hard to make him regret his choice.
She stayed quiet beside Edward while he greeted some couple of people he knew and then he asked her to dance with him.
“I really don’t…”
“Follow my lead, remember” he said reminding her and slowly she followed him to the centre of the room where some other couple were dancing.
Tessa let him pull her into his arms and slowly they began flowing to the rhythm of the music.
Mean while Connor was still talking to one of his investors when Clarissa call for his attention.
“Isn’t that your wife?” She said and he followed her gaze to see Tessa dancing with Edward.
“What the hell is she doing here?” He blurt out.
“I should be asking you that. Why is she here and most of all, why is she with Edward?” Clarissa asked and instead of answering, he made to leave but Clarissa pulled him back.
“You can’t just leave me here to go to your wife and besides we came here to carry out a mission and we need to fulfil that”
“Everyone believes us to be lovers and we need to keep giving them that thought. So don’t think of leaving my side to go to Tessa” Clarissa added tightening her hold on him.
“No one tells me what to do, you should know that by now” he let out gruffly as he push off her hand.
Tessa was laughing at a joke Edward told her when she felt someone gaze on her.
She turned her gaze only to clash with Connor’s green ones.
“Connor is watching us” Tessa said to Edward.
“Then act natural. It’s time he begins to regret what he said about you” Edward said pushing back a strand of her hair and before she knew what else he had in mind, he pulled her into his arms making it hard for her to pull away.
“If you don’t mind can I have my wife ” Connor said gruffly interrupting their dance.
“I doubt if your wife would want to go with you” Edward replied giving Tessa a look which told her to say no.
“I suggest you go to Clarissa. I came here with Edward and I….what are you doing!” Tessa squealed out as Connor lifted her into his arms heading into a room leaving the guest starring after them.
” What the hell are you doing here with Edward?” Connor asked.
“He invited me to a party and I agreed to come” she replied.
“Didn’t I tell you to stay away from him?” Connor asked.
“Edward is kind to me and I won’t stay away from him just because you say so. Now get out of my way, I have a party to return to” she said wanting to walk past him but he pulled her back.
“We aren’t done….”
“But I am! I don’t want to talk to a man who thinks am an embarrassment to him” She yelled.
“What did you just say?”
“You heard me! ” She replied hotly.
“Did you perhaps heard what I said to granny this morning?” Connor asked finally realising why she’s angry.
“I did you jerk and now I know what you think about me” Tessa said still feeling hurt by the things he said.
“Tessa, it’s not what you think. I can explain if….”
“You don’t have to. Everything you said is true since am from a poor background, It wouldn’t look good if I attend a grand party with you”
“There’s a reason why I didn’t want you to attend this party” Connor insisted.
“A reason I would rather not know” she replied before leaving the room.

^^ Camp Ground ^^
Chris was leaving the cafeteria with James when a blond girl approach him.
“We need to talk” She said glaring at him.
“I have nothing to say to you, Grace” Chris said and made to leave but she stood in his path.
“What’s going on between you and Miss Cynthia? I saw you leaving her tent a while ago” She asked in a loud voice which earned them looks from the other student.
“I think you’ve got it wrong Grace. Chris was in our tent a while ago” James said.
“Are you sure of that cause I clearly saw him leaving miss Cynthia tent” Grace stated with conviction.
“Come with me” Chris muttered as he pulled Grace to a quiet place with him.
“What exactly is your problem? Why do you keep on acting this way?” Chris asked feeling very angry by her action.
“Don’t you know why I keep on acting this way? Do I have to spell it out for you?” Grace said and at that moment she saw Cynthia.
“I really like you Chris or better yet. I really love you. You are single and I am single, why won’t you give me a chance?” She asked, her gaze solely on Cynthia who stood watching them.
“Grace I…” She stopped Chris from saying more as she gave him a hug.
“I don’t know if something is going on between you and Miss Cynthia but it has to stop. You are young and you deserve to be with someone your age, someone like me” Grace said meaning those words for Cynthia.
Chris pulled her away and held her at arms length.
“Who told you that something is going on between Miss Cynthia and I ?” Chris asked.
“So you mean nothing is going on between Miss Cynthia and you?” Grace asked.
“There’s nothing going on between us” Chris replied.
“Oh! Miss Cynthia. We didn’t see you there” Grace said alerting Chris on Cynthia’s presence.
“You must have heard us talking about you right? It’s just that I saw him leaving your tent and found it a bit suspicious but Chris just made it clear to me that nothing is going on between you and him” Grace added smiling at Chris.
“I will get going ” Cynthia said and walked off.
“Am glad she knows now that she means nothing to you. Teachers like her are the reason why young guys become bad” Grace let out slowly.
“You did that on purpose right?” Chris asked slowly.
“Of course. I think she’s interested in you and you just made it clear to me that you aren’t interested in her which is why I made her listen to what you had….”
“d@mn you Grace!” Chris let out before walking off.
Chris went after Cynthia and found her just right when she’s about to get into her tent.
“It’s not what you think, I can explain” Chris said breathing heavily after all the running.
“You don’t have to explain. Wh@tëver happened there…I believe you” Cynthia said making him feel relieved for a while.
“That’s good to know. For a while I thought…”
“Am sorry Chris but I would like to be alone” she said cutting him off.
“Why?”
“Nothing, I just want to be alone and also don’t come looking for me in my tent again” she added before walking into her tent leaving Chris feeling more bereft than ever.

^^ Back At The Party ^^
While the party went on inside, Tessa found a quiet place to drink her champagne and to stop thinking about the hurt Connor cause when Clarissa ruined it all.
“Decided to come check up on your husband?” Clarissa asked.
“You must be mad that he chose to bring me instead of you right?” She taunted and when Tessa didn’t give a reply, she continued with her taunts.
“Well I don’t blame him since no one would want to bring a poor peasant to a place of class”
“You are right. Am a poor peasant, a poor peasant who ended up marrying a rich man. A rich man who happens to be your best friend and someone you wish to have. Don’t you feel ashamed that this poor peasant stole his love away? Why didn’t your class and upbringing help you win his heart?” Tessa taunted hitting a soft spot.
“I can’t blame Connor if he chose a beauty over a beast” Tessa added.
“Did you just call me a beast?” Clarissa yelled at her.
” If am a poor peasant then obviously you are a beast” Tessa replied only to recieve a slap from Clarissa.
“You Bîtch” Clarissa yelled shakingly.
“Just so you know, you started this ” Tessa said as she threw the rest of her champagne on her adding a slap to it.
” Am going to kill you!” Clarissa screamed as she pulled Tessa’s hair while Tessa returned the favour.
Clarissa’s scream filled the air bringing the guest attention on them.
Connor who knew something was off quickly went to where the voice was coming from and on seeing Tessa on top of Clarissa hitting her hard on the face, he quickly went to pull her away while Edward held onto Clarissa.
“Let go of me! Am not done with her!” Tessa yelled trying to pull free but Connor lifted her over his shoulder and out of the building straight into his car, where he drove them home.

^^ Hanks Family Home ^^
Granny Susie was reading in the sitting room when a disarray Tessa walk past her, looking furious.
“What’s wrong, Connor?” Granny Susie asked as soon as Connor walk in.
“I will explain later” Connor replied before going after Tessa.
As soon as he got to the room, he found Tessa cleaning her make up in the bathroom.
“You went too far, Tessa” he said the first thing that came to mind.
“I only gave her what she deserved”
“But that was a party, Tessa. You should have hold back no matter what”
“Hold back? If you had heard what she said, you wouldn’t have held back and besides what did I expect from a man who thought me to be an embarrassment” she added as she walk out of the bathroom.
“It’s time we talk about that…”
“We’ve got nothing to talk about! Do you know how hurt I felt when I heard you say those things about me? I thought so high of you Connor, I thought you to be my moon and stars but to you am just an embarrassment” she said as tears began to fall.
“I don’t think of you as that” he said as he help her wipe off her tears.
“Tonight party isn’t just any party. The police have been intending to arrest a man who’s been doing illegal business and I along with some of the other business men agreed to help them since they intend to catch him red handed”
“It was going to be a risky thing that’s why I didn’t want to bring you along. What you heard me telling Granny Susie was just an excuse I made up since I couldn’t tell her the truth. You’ve got to believe me Tessa” he said holding onto her hand.
“I find that hard to believe” she replied, pulling away from him.
“But it’s the truth, Tessa”
“A truth which you could have told me. You should have told me about it instead of choosing to say those horrible things about me. This isn’t about you hiding the truth, it’s about you not being able to trust me”
“And trust is the foundation of a marriage. If we don’t trust each other then things like this will keep occuring ” she added lightly while heading for the door.
“Where are you going?” Connor asked behind her.
“I intend to spend the night in Fiona’s room, so do me a favour and stay away” she said before leaving the room.

^^ Clarissa’s apartment ^^
“Will you stop laughing!” Clarissa yelled at Blair while she put the ice pack on her swollen cheek.
“But you were so confident to get Connor in your bed when you left tonight. If only you had known that you would be recieving a beating ” Blair said jokingly.
“I really want to hit you but not as much I want to kill Tessa!” Clarissa let out in anger.
“Stop being angry and think about the good side of things. Tessa is angry at Connor which means that there’s definitely going to be a rift between them”
“Now more than ever, we need to work hard to cause more rift between them. A rift which would be hard for them to mend” Blair added.
“I like the sound of that but since Seven gave up and have return to his home town, do you think we both alone can achieve this task?” Clarissa asked.
“We both can’t do it by ourselves and that’s why I will be asking for someone’s help?” Blair replied.
“Am sure that he will be willing to help since he needs my help too” She added…..
