CHAPTER TWENTY SIX: ARTHUR CONFESSION 2
” Christine ” I swallow, forcing the words out of my mouth ” I killed her” it took me two minutes before I meet lacey gaze, just as expected, she looked shocked and confused.
” Weren’t you two lovers?”
” We were ”
” So why will you do such ” she turn her body to face me completely, I got her attention ” if Christine is Linda daughter why is she here? Why is she still living in this house? With you ”
” Lacey ”
” Isn’t that even weird?”
” Lacey ” I sit down next to her on the bed, confused as to why I haven’t heard the question I was expecting ” aren’t you curious why I am not in jail?”
She nod ” tell me ” I love the way her eyes bright up whenever she wants to learn something new.
” The death was registered as sucide but Linda simply can not accept that, it is true she sees me as a son….I mean I grow up with her and Christine ” exhale, I suddenly feel the urge to smoke ” she is still looking for evidence lacey, it’s truly weird, I expected her to poison me at this point”
” Why haven’t you fired her ”
I shake my head ” she is like a mother to me ” smiling, I grab my cigarette ” she h@tës me, keep finding way to prove herself that it wasn’t sucide, am sure when she does….she will finally poison me ” laughing I shake my head ” she must think I don’t know, think she is hiding it perfectly”
” Arthur ” lacey growl ” stop acting like you actually killed her, you said it yourself….it was sucide ” lighting the cigarette, I look at her and then chuckle, she just wants to believe anything.
” It’s not ” a smile appear on my lips ” I really did kill her, pushed her off the cliff and into the ocean, her body was never found and it’s been years ”
” But why?” She hold my hand and I look at her ” why did you kill her?”
” Goodnight lacey ” kissing her forehead, I stand to my feet ” I will be spending the night in the guest room ”
” Why? We can both sleep here ”
” Not tonight ”
” Can you atleast read for me?” She pout her lips ” am really finding it difficult to sleep right now ” nodding my head, I proceeded in putting on my underwear, blue short, singlet, grab my favorite book from my drawer, sit on the bed while she lay down peacefully and eagerly waiting.
” Why am I nervous” I chuckle when I open the first page, clear my throat and begin ” it was just like the sun, he knew he couldn’t have her but his lips grow dry, his heart won’t stop beating at the sight of her…….” Reading on, I didn’t even spare a glance at lacey, the book was captivating.
By the time I move to chapter ten, I look at lacey only to find her sleeping, her eyes closed soundly ” lacey ” leaning close, I kiss her forehead and decided to join her on the bed, looking at the ceiling, everything seem a little strange, my eyes slowly grow dizzy and just like that, I fall into deep slumber.
I knew it was a dream, I found myself standing yet again on that cliff, Christine sad eyes, she kept pleading, asking me to believe her, saying it was my child ” why will I cheat on you, I love you ”
” And you expect me to believe you? I caught you on the act, why will you still lie to me ” grabbing her by the throat, my anger boil to the fullest ” you let another man touch you? That two when you are pregnant? How am I supposed to be sure that it’s my child?”
” It was a mistake ” she cry ” I didn’t mean to, I swear it…..pond came in drunk and ” tightening my hand around her neck I watch her swing her hands, trying to break free from my hold, begging but it all fell to empty ears.
She was mine, I was the only one permitted to touch her, no one else but me ” please ” she force the words out and I let her go, watch her try to catch her breath ” you have to believe me, I didn’t give pond my consent, it was R@PE!!”
” Shut up Christine” I frown ” stop with the lies ”
” How is this relationship going to work when you are like this? Do you even love me!!!!”
” If this is not love, what is it? What is driving me crazy ”
” Obsession, all you feel is obsession and nothing else!!!!” She yell back” am not your possession Arthur, you can’t treat me like this”
” What are you saying ” I clench my hands.
” Let’s break up, cancel the wedding, I can’t do this with you anymore ” she look at me, dead in the eyes ” you’re a monster!!!”
I notice the change in those eyes and just that moment, I push her off the cliff, watch her fall into the ocean.
She was right, it is obsession, am Incapable of love.

“Arthur?” Opening my eyes, I close them right back at the harsh sunlight and then open them again to stare at lacey, the dream was too vivid, the feelings and everything came back ” are you okay?”
” Why?” I sit up ” was I crying?”
” Yes” my hands swiftly touch my cheek, tears?, my cheek is wet, I look at my hands and gasp, I was crying? For Christine? I doubt it, I didn’t cry, I have never shed a single tear for her. ” Is something wrong?” Lacey asked but I can’t help but to question myself, am I regretting? Regretting killing her?
Of course not, that can’t happen, I don’t care if she is dead but why? Why did I cry? ” Arthur!!!!” Lacey high-pitched voice brought me out of my thoughts, looking at how worried she seem, I smiled and clear my throat.
” It must be sweat, nothing else ” she nod, tuck her hair behind her ear before I look at what she is wearing, my hoodie and for some reason, she look really good in them.
” I couldn’t find miss Linda so I prepared breakfast myself ”
” You did ” she nod ” where is Linda?”
” I have no idea ” I frown, it was the first time she left without cooking, ever since that accident with Christine, she took it upon herself to make sure i eat healthy, they must be no prove of me killing her, even if she still thinks am the culprit that her daughter can never commit sucide, since they is no evidence am sure she still think am suffering inside.
I have no other person but christine.
That must be her thought” what did you cook ”
” Noodles ” lacey pick up the tray and place on the bed ” with boiled eggs and fried eggs, I also bought juice ”
” You bought?”
” Yes, I went to the grocery shop ” my gaze quickly move to the time, I gasp almost noon, why did I sleep that long ” don’t even think of hurrying anywhere, you have to eat first ”
” Of course ” grabbing the fork, I slowly eat while she stare at me ” it’s delicious, you have to join me ” take a forkful of the noodles, I place it close to her mouth and she eat it, watching her eat, I lick my lips.
Clean my hands and mumble ” Eat, am full ”
” But….”
” Just eat lacey ” silence engulf us while I watch her eat, she slowly eat, tucking her hair behind her ear occasionally ” lacey ”
” Hmmm”
” Don’t you think am horrible”
She nod her head but didn’t stop eating ” I think you’re a monster, I mean you did kill the woman you said you loved ” her eyes never meet mine and I clench my hands.
” Aren’t you afraid?” I asked, my heart seem to be beating fast, am I scared? Scared of what her answer might be? ” That I might kill you too ”
She nod once more ” I will be lying if I say am not ”
” Why didn’t you run away?”
” I wanted to ” she drop the fork and look at me with tears swelling in her eyes ” this morning, I wanted running away from you but I couldn’t, if I leave you, you will be alone…no one to embrace and am not sure, am not sure i want to touch someone else”
” Lacey ”
She sniff ” it must have been difficult” she drop the tray on the floor and hug me ” having someone blood in her hands, especially if that someone, is the person you love, it must have been hard ”
” What are you saying ” holding her shoulder, I push her back a little to stare at her face.
” Am scared Arthur, am so scared but I don’t want to live without you” she sniff and clean her tears ” you have to promise to always trust me, I don’t know how obsession works but everything is better with trust, no matter what you see or hear, you have to trust me ” I stare at her pleading eyes and I smile
” I promise” kissing her forehead, my voice shaky ” I will always trust you ”
