CHAPTER ONE : HER DARING PROPOSAL

Am a princess
A Title that girls wish they have, something that I have never once enjoyed having, every princess is meant to have a good reputation, just like my sister’s but I on the other hand. I highly doubt that any man will wish to marry me.
Someone cursed, devil’s reincarnate. These are words that spread round in my name, a woman who kills people due to her cursed nature, it is a fact tho….even when demons attack me, for some reason, they always kill people around me first.
That’s the main reason I only have few maids around to help me” milady ” Ava rush in my room, she look so worried and somewhat surprised ” you won’t believe what I heard today ”
Dropping the needles and thread, I avert my eye from my embroidery piece to meet her gaze ” you look displeased ” I frown ” what’s the matter ”
” You do remember lord Thanatos?” I tilt my head left and she purred ” the one you asked me about last night, I heard he just returned from battle” she lean close and whisper ” he will be attending the show which you will perform in tonight ”
I blink my eyes, it is true, I have been curious about what this man actually looks like ” isn’t he supposed to meet the king first?” I frown and ava withdraw.
” He is a strange man ” she smile ” I even heard that the king fears him ”
” Preposterous ” my gaze move back to my embroidery, I still have no idea why I try so hard to master this art, it’s not like am getting any marriage offers soon ” I doubt father fears anyone ” standing to my feet, I stretch a little” speaking of which ” I look at her, eyes all excited ” which song should I sing today?”
I wait patiently for her reply but it never came, I stood shock and watch the huge being behind her, she didn’t notice it, she can’t even see it….I couldn’t speak, if I could, I would have warn her to move away.
Her scream fill the whole place, blood splash on me and I watch the demon pull out her heart, he ate it, his horn radiate a little, those four eyes of his look at me in a hungry manner but he didn’t touch me. Just took hold of a piece of my hair, inhale the scent and left.
I fall down, body shaking while the guards run in, I lift my eyes and stare at Gil ” milady ” he rush to my direction, looking at my body ” are you hurt? Did something happened to you?” I shake my head.
” Te….tell” he didn’t let me finish, he nod his head and immediately ask the other guards to leave, the moment the door close shut I could finally breath.
” What happened” I watch worry dance in his eyes, gill the only person I can rely on in this palace ” I thought all these killing has stopped” I can tell that he is the only one that actually care about me, it’s in his eyes.
” Someone came in through the window ” I gasp, trying to calm myself down ” he tried killing me but ava push me out of the way ” I have stopped telling people about what really happened. Some say am mentally ill, crying about seeing demons.
” Are you okay?” He straightforward his hands to touch my face but stop mid way, it’s a crime, for someone of his status to touch me without permission ” may I?”
Clearing my throat, I raise to my feet ” please, have someone clean up my room ” walking out, I clench my hands to my chest, to steady my breathing, I could feel myself getting dizzy, this has always been too much for me.
I was starting to like ava.
” Well well well ” Freya stop at the tree and look at me ” looks like you have killed someone else and blame it on the demons ” I stare at her, Freya…the most beautiful girl in the land, father’s favorite and the most disgusting person on earth.
Thin, red curly hair, blue eyes, pink naturally lips, glowing skin. Those were her features while am just plain average, dark hair, dark eyes, red lips and pale skin.
She is just two face, acting nice to others and then showing me her true colours.
” Not today Freya” I frown ” I have no patience for your ridiculous argument”
” That is no way to talk to your elder ” she smiles ” but I will let it slide” her feet move closer to my direction ” don’t worry, I will soon be out of your hair ”
Watching her leave, I roll my eyes, how can she be that excited to get married to someone she has no idea of? Looking back I stare at ava dead body as they take her out, maids rush in to clean my chamber and another rumor spread.
Chloe the murderer princess.
I think I can heard enough of them ” milady ” Gill approach me ” the king summons you ”
” My father?” He nod and I frown ” did he tell you for what purpose?”
” No milady ”
Fear creep into me, I clench my hands, trying to remember my mother word…a princess doesn’t cry nor do she show her weakness, it will be use against her if she does.
” I should get ready then ” I smile and he leaves.
It took me an hour to wash off the blood stain and dress up, I approach my father study room but before I could knock, my name caught my attention, leaning close I try to listen.
” What are you saying?” A familiar voice growl” sending her to the east empire is wrong ”
” Do you think I appreciate all these rumors” the king mumble ” that girl is not my child, I am sick of someone like her ”
” And you think selling her off to the enemy is the best?”
” Do not make me look like a monster ” father growl ” wh@tëver demon that is in her, doesn’t belong in my kingdom, I have other daughters, I don’t need someone like her ”
” If you send her off, I will escort her ”
” Gill!!!”
” Milord ” gill voice suddenly become calm ” I told you before, I wish to make her mine, will you appreciate it if I buy her?”
I step back at the sound of that, why are they treating like some animal off for sell? I do know my father have always h@tëd me but to sell me off? He doesn’t even care if am turn into a slave.
The pain hit me again, my heart sickness, placing my hands on the wall, I clench my left hand to my chest, trying to breath, the pain has always been horrible, it always feels like my heart is about to burst.
I stood still for almost fifteen minutes before it subside.
The walk back to my chamber was quiet, I still don’t remember the last time I cry, after mother death, it almost feels like I have no more tears in me to spare, not even my chest pain bring out tears, I only feel pains, unbearable pains.
The fact that I will be sold off keep ringing in my head, no matter how much my father h@tëd me, I don’t blame him, if I was in his shoe, I will h@të me too.
Walking back into my chamber, I stare at the floor and walls, no single drop of blood ” it’s so quiet ” I look outside the window, the sun already going to sleep, I shut my room door, looking for the dress I will use tonight and of course, the face mask that will match perfectly.
I can’t have people finding out that I sing in a theater.
Getting out of the palace late at night, I look around the town, fasten my steps to the music theater, change into the dress and patiently await my turn while listening to rumors.
” Lord Thanatos has return?”
” I heard he will be visiting here tonight ”
” What do you think?” One of them frown ” will he choose one of us to spend the night with?”
Another chuckle ” don’t be ridiculous, he doesn’t fancy women”
” Is he gay?”
” Am not so sure but…” She lean close and I lean close hoping to hear the rest ” I heard that he has never kiss a lady before ” they gasp and I roll my eyes.
Rumors are not to be trusted, someone of his status never kissed a woman before? That isn’t possible.
” Miss seventeen”
I stood up, that name still sound weird no matter how many times I hear it, I should have made up a matter name.
Moving to the stage, I slowly hold the mic and look around, mostly men are seated, few with their spouse. I begin singing, feeling all my worries fade away. Music has always been a therapy for me.
The moment he step in, it felt like the whole air in my body vanish, I have never seen Thanatos before but the aura around this man, i just know it might be him. His dark hair cut off, only one cross ear ring in his right ear, his eyes almost grey in colour but still somewhat red, I could not be certain which one it is.
His lips red in colour.
I watch him sit at the dark corner, lift a glass of wine and then stare at me, I know he won’t be able to tell who I am with this face mask on but the way he stares at someone, one will think that he can see the soul.
I thought he would look away but he didn’t, he blink those eyes of his and lower his gaze to my exposed thighs, I felt naked.
The song flow freely from my lips and when I stopped, he look at me in the eyes, everyone clapped but he didn’t, just drop his wine and walk out, I had no idea why I rush out of the stage to catch up with him.
It feels like I have been mesmerized.
” Milord?” I hold his hand and he turn around to look at me and then his eyes lower to my hand holding his. Letting go of them, I clear my throat.
” May I help you?” His voice husky and manly
” Oh no, I mistake you for someone…..” I stopped talking when another demon appeared right behind him and just like instinct, Thanatos turn around, I expected the demon to try killing him but surprisingly, the demon bow his head and vanish.
” Excuse me ” he smile ” am quite busy ” I remain shocked, what just happened? Did he just send him away, without uttering a single word?
I have to do something, I can’t let someone who can possibly change my future just leave
” Wait” I hold his hand and he look at me
” One will think you fancy me ” he lift his hand and I stare at how our fingers interject” you seem to like touching me ” letting go, I step back, my face heat up from embarrassment ” may I help you?” He asked with furrow brows.
” M…..m…m…m..” looking at him, I don’t know what to say to him to make him pick interest in me. I close my eyes and clench my hands to my dress ” marry me ” silence engulf us, minutes passed and the next thing happening is him laughing.
I open my eyes and stare at him, dimples pop out as he chuckle ” marry you?” He clear his throat ” no one has ask me something that ridiculous before ” he lean close and stare at me ” what’s your name?”
” Chloe ”
” Chloe ” he smile and I blush at the sound of my name from his mouth” usually people ask me to kiss them not to marry them” Thanatos place his hand on my hair ” I will think about it ” those were his last words before leaving.
I knew he didn’t take what I said seriously but my heart won’t stop beating fast.
