Chapter 57
“Sometimes I wonder if you turn on and off your vampire abilities at will, today is your first day at the office and you are being so sluggish,” Logan grumbled as he walked to the elevator with one of his hands in his pocket
“I am coming Boss,” Elijah chuckled as he followed behind.
Logan had only agreed to take him along after so much persuasion from his sister, he really didn’t like the idea of bringing a hot vampire dude to his company, he was not just going to be a distraction for the ladies but a pain in the @$$ to him as well.
Logan got into the elevator and held the door for Elijah to join, he then let it close and turned to the vampire. “Just in case you forgot everything I told you, no chit chatting with the ladies, if you even try to get close to any of them…”
Elijah interrupted him immediately. “Your sister will strangle me even before you get a chance to do it,” he uttered and giggled.
Logan sighed. “Good thing you know, in addition to that, no vampire business here, no weird behaviors. If you are thirsty, go get yourself some blood in the hospital on the other side and don’t let anyone from the company see you. Also, don’t talk too much, it is already awkward that I have to advise you like a kid when you are a few years older than me, let’s not make it any weirder,” he said.
“Sure Boss,” Elijah replied with a smile.
“Logan, just Logan…” he corrected and just then, the elevator door opened, “Follow me and don’t try to be charming, just be normal,” Logan cautioned and stepped out of the elevator.
They walked out of the elevator into the open office and the female receptionists all looked up, there was a strange aura in that room that left the ladies drooling, it was the aura of a hot vampire like Logan had feared. He knew that Elijah’s presence in the office would pull attention, especially from the ladies.
That exactly was why Hazel insisted that he accompanied Logan to work. If he could resist all those charming ladies that would throw themselves at him, then he was loyal to her and was worth trusting.
That was quite a tricky test as Hazel would have to bear more of the burn if things go wrong, she just hoped she was right and Elijah could be trusted to be loyal to her. If he really loved her as much as he said, then he wouldn’t even take a second glance at any of those ladies in the company.
“Like I said, always seeking attention,” Logan grumbled in front without looking back, truth be told that he didn’t like his sister’s plan one bit.
“Hey, I am not doing anything, I am just being a casual human coming to work, maybe they are only staring at me because I am accompanying their handsome boss who they all admire but he refuses to notice them,” Elijah replied in a whisper.
Logan chuckled mockingly and scoffed, but he however gave the Vampire’s words a second thought; maybe they were true, just maybe.
Logan and Elijah walk out from the open office into a silent hallway with no one but them in it and Logan sighs in relief. “Maybe we will flash past the next time we come here together.”
Elijah laughed heartily; he really enjoyed Logan’s company and humor. The two got along really well, one was cold and grumpy, the other was lighthearted and cheerful, jovial and funny as well; like they say about magnets, like poles repel, but otherwise attract.
As Elijah walked past an office, he paused suddenly and his expression changed; he had caught a very familiar scent and he was too sure that it had to be that person.
“I didn’t say you can stop and explore, save that for later, keep walking and no stopping,” Logan uttered while moving forward; he didn’t even need to look back to know that Elijah did stop.
Elijah sighed and reluctantly moved on. “I am sorry, I thought I caught a familiar scent, but I may be wrong,” he replied in a less enthusiastic voice.
Logan was relieved that at least he was finally serious about something; he didn’t need a clown roaming around his company with a smile on his face.
They both got to Logan’s office and when he opened it, he saw Bart doing work at his own table because they shared the same work space but had different tables and computers.
“Hey man, you are finally here,” Bart said without looking up; of course he knew that it was Logan, who else would walk in here without a knock.
“Yes, sorry I am late, I had brother-in-law issues to handle. Meet my sister’s boyfriend, Elijah.” He introduced as he walked to his own desk.
“Hi Elij…” Bart paused the moment he raised his face and saw the vampire. Even Elijah froze at the door immediately he saw Bartholomew.
“Um, what is up with the sudden silence?” Logan asked and looked in their direction.
“Batty?” Elijah asked with wide eyes and Bart just froze like he had seen a ghost.
“Okay, what is going on here? Do you know him?” Logan asked Bart and also turned to Elijah.
“Yeah, he is my younger brother,” Elijah replied immediately. “So this is where you have been? I thought you had not returned to this city after you left Italy?”
Logan was shocked with what he heard as he watched Elijah walk towards Bart who was still saying nothing. “Wait, you said what?” he asked, feeling more confused than ever. “Your younger brother? He looks like your father,” he added.
Elijah chuckled. “Well, he started aging like what he has become. Aren’t you going to give your big brother a hug? Why do you look so spooked to see me?” he asked.
Logan turned to the frozen Bart. “What is he saying? Is this true?” he asked with a soft but scary voice.
Bart sighed and looked down, then he nodded. “Yes.”
Logan sped to him and grabbed him by the collar, pinning him to the wall immediately. “You scvmbag!! So you are a Fuçking vampire and you have been lying to me for all the years we knew each other, what exactly was your game?” he yelled at him.
“Logan, let me explain, it is not what it looks like. I never lied to you, I just held back my past from you,” Bart said in his defense, while trying to save himself from Logan’s clutches.
“What stupid past? You made me believe you were human, you have been keeping me in the dark of who you really are!!” Logan yelled, still holding him to the wall.
“Okay boys, stay calm and play nice, please don’t make things messy here,” Elijah who had been quiet finally spoke, even him was confused with everything that was happening.
“I am human, Logan… just let me explain,” Bart said with his hands up.
Logan sighed and after hesitating for a while, he put him down. “This better make sense,” he muttered.
Bart groaned and put his neck tie back in place and also straightened his suit. “Man, you should get control of your temper. First of all, I am a human so you can’t say I lied about my identity.”
“But you just admitted to being Elijah’s brother, so how can you be human?” he asked.
“Because I choose to be, I got a witch to spellbound me and permanently seal away my powers, so now I am human and I am aging like one, that is why I look older than my older brother. I didn’t want to continue my life as a vampire, I got tired of the constant fights and killings, I wanted to leave a normal life and so I moved away from our residential home in Italy and returned to my hometown but with a new identity.
I got rid of my surname and started my life afresh. I met you and we sort of understood each other. I was going to tell you about my history when the time was right but then you told me your secret first; you let me know that you were a werewolf and I knew how much werewolves h@të vampires. I was scared that our friendship would be ruined if you knew the truth about me so I chose to keep it away, but that isn’t lying now, is it?” he asked with his arms spread open.
Logan sighed and paced around the room, he didn’t know what to think or do now. This was his best friend they were talking about, someone he shared everything with, how could he keep such truth away from him? How many more things was he hiding? Could he still be trusted?
“Logan, I know what you are thinking and how you feel right now, but believe me I did what I had to do to keep our friendship. I am really sorry for lying to you, I just didn’t want to lose your friendship because you are the best thing that has happened to me ever since I left Italy to this place, please forgive me.” He pleaded.
Logan walked to the window and looked out, he imagined that Orla was here and what she would want him to do in this situation, then he turned back to Bart. He took slow steps to him and they stood staring at each other, then Logan extended his arm.
He asked for a handshake. Bart smiled and then nodded, accepting his hand of friendship. Elijah smiled and shook his head.
“Awn, you two would make a good couple,” he uttered and the two friends gave him a death glare. He knew better than to say another word.
To be continued!!
