CHAPTER 31 — HAPPILY EVER AFTER.

~THREE YEARS LATER✍~

“So Mr Daniel, how are you?” The woman asked, leaning back into her black leather chair.

“Am doing great, Miss Carmine.” Daniel beams. Miss Carmina was his and Lucille’s therapist. Immediately him and Ashely had gotten back together, she made him start therapy sessions to effectively move on from his past. He was reluctant at first but quickly found out that having to free himself from strong negative emotions could do so much.

“I wonder why you came to see me today Mr Dumont, it’s been two years since we last spoke.” Miss Carmine spoke so fluently, elegance and class radiates from her.

“To thank you, for what you did for me and well my family.” He shrugs.

“Ah… How is everyone doing?”

“So much has changed in three years. I and Ashely got married and we are expecting our second child.”

“That’s amazing! But, I am hurt… You didn’t invite me.” She pouts. Daniel chuckles.

“Well, we are throwing a party for my niece today and you are more than welcome.”

“How is Lucille?” She asks.

“Still can’t believe she married duvet.” He frowned.

“You mean Dominique.”

He shot her an ‘I don’t care’ look. “Same thing.” He brushed it off.

“I had no doubt that they would end up together. After all, he had supported her through her therapy sessions and the way she spoke about him.” Carmine sighs dreamily, the love shared between them is almost to good to be true.

He smirks, “yeah, I couldn’t be more happy that she chose a supportive and loving life partner.” He could remember his first meeting with Dominique, they were at each other’s throats threatening to rip each other apart. If not for their women, they would’ve killed each other.

Although, they had managed to land a punch on each other. Daniel had been so angry about him hurting Lucille and Dominique was ready to break his bones for hurting Ashely.

“I can’t believe you tried to kill your brother in law.”

“He deserved it.” Daniel answers nonchalantly.

“You do know, you also hurt his sister – badly.”

“Yeah, I know.” He considered himself a very lucky man when Ashely had agreed to give him a second chance — it wasn’t long that after two months of dating again, he had asked her to marry him and today they are blessed with a mischievous two year old son also expecting another in two months time.

“Men.” Miss Carmine mutters. “I am really happy for you Daniel.” When he had begun therapy, it was like talking to brick wall. Fortunately, Carmine had threatened to report to Ashely that he was being stubborn and instantly, his character took a 360° turn.

“How is your father?”

“Fine. Me and Dad made peace with each other, it’s what mom and Fiona would’ve wanted.” After the completion of his therapy, Daniel had made peace with his Dad and step sibling – Monica. Jason wanted no contact with them. He and Lucille had forgiven his father, there was no point in holding onto so much h@të and anger.

Peter didn’t have that cosy father and son relationship with Daniel but he was grateful that they communicated with him regularly, took care of him and also allowed him to see his grandchildren. Fiona’s burial was held at a cathedral, it was a small burial – everyone attended including Jason but that was the last time they had saw him.

Monica had taken up a skill – baking and had opened up a restaurant. Her dedication, hardwork and consistency paid off because her restaurant is more popular than Le Cirque. People travel from far and wide, just to taste your delicious meals.

“Really, alot has changed. Today my life is so peaceful, filled with joy. Can’t believe I quit the mafia.” Immediately, Ashely and him got married, he had quit the mafia and handed everything over to Damien. Of course, he had excellent credentials to get him a decent and well paying job and now he owns his own wine farm and had opened his own wine refinery, which is the best in Paris.

“How did you take the news of Fiona’s death?” Carmine asks, Lucille had been the one to tell her about Fiona’s demise and each time she had tried to get Daniel to talk about it, he would avoid the subject.

“Frankly, I didn’t feel anything. But Lucille, Monica and Jason had taken it hard, they mourned her for weeks – especially Lucille who had constantly blamed herself for the death of Fiona but with your help she moved on.”

He glanced at the wall clock, “I’m late. Like I said Carmine, your welcome to join me for the party.”

“I would love too.” She replies.

“Am I late?” Daniel said as he strides into the Monet’s mansion with Carmine following behind.

“No, your just in time.” A heavily pregnant Ashely replies as she waddles towards him and places a peck on his cheek. “Oh… Carmine, it’s so good to see you!” Ashely beams and embraces her.

“Daddy!” A little boy ran to up and jumped into his arms. “Welcome back.” Lucas Dumont is an replica of Daniel — curly blonde hair, green eyes and a signature smirk.

“Thank you. How was school today?”

“It was fine. When is Angel going to be here?”

Today is Lucille’s and Dominique’s daughter – birthday party. And the couple spared no expense to make sure their lovely two year old got the best birthday she deserves. Colorful balloons hanged on every pillar, a princess theme birthday cake is set on the table – backed to the corner next to the food and snacks.

It is a surprise party, Dominique had gone to pick her up from school. “Your back,” Lucille walks into the room – smiling as always. “Oh… Carmine, good to see you.” She hugs her gently.

“Make sure the streamers are hanged properly!” Lucille orders. It is her daughter’s birthday and everything has to be perfect.

“It’s almost time, the guests should be arriving by now.” On queue, the doorbell dings – Ashely answers the door. One by one the guests — including some family friends — Damien, Xavier, Mark and Sophie — all smiles holding their gifts.

“Okay, everyone. The birthday girl will soon arrive, places!” The guests obey, everyone hides patiently as Lucille switches the light off and quickly hides. The door opens, “daddy why is everywhere so dark?” A little voice asks.

“SURPRISE!!” Everyone screams and jumps out as soon as the lights come on. The little girl smiles widely, seeing the party decorations and of course her whole family gathered together.

“Happy birthday sweetie.” Lucille takes the girl up in her arms as she and Dominique place a kiss on her cheeks.

“Thank you mummy and daddy. This is so amazing!” She shouts.

“Your welcome.” They answer and set her down, both smile watching her run towards her uncle and aunt.

“Can’t believe we pulled it off.” Lucille says in relief.

“You did an amazing job.” Dominique replies and they both share a kiss. Three years had gone by — some things had changed while some remained the same. The love shared between Dominique and Lucille hadn’t changed — it blossomed after the arrival of their first child — Angel.

After a year of courtship, Dominique had popped the question and both wasted no time in getting married. His parents were over the moon seeing their children get married.

“Thank you, my love.” She kissed him.

“Mummy! Daddy! Come see!” Angel pulls them away quickly. Angel is a exact replica of Dominique, her long black hair, her broad smile, the only thing she got from Lucille is her round brown eyes.

“Look!” She points towards the huge birthday cake.

Her parents chuckles, “yes sweetie, it’s your birthday cake.” Dominique replied.

Angel shrieks and begins to jump up. “Grandma! Grandpa!” She runs towards them in a flash. Lucille chuckles once more, their daughter is just full of life and energy, sometimes it’s hard to keep up with her.

“Why hello to the birthday girl.” Becky picks her up. Becky and David’s dream had come true when Angel and Lucas were born — they spend most of their time spoiling their precious grandchildren.

“Happy birthday.” David says.

“Thank you grandpa.” She pouts.

“Happy birthday to you.” Monica, Lucas and Peter say as they join the family.

“Thank you.”

“C’mon, let me show you your amazing gift.” The birth of Angel and Lucas had given Peter a second chance — although, he wasn’t the best father to Daniel and Lucille but he made up for every single moment — by spoiling his grandchildren rotten, sparing no expenses to see them happy.

“Show me grandpa! Show me!” Peter smiles, knowing that every single day spent with his grandchildren is worth it.

Carmine watches the happy family from the sideline. This. This is the reason why she became a therapist in the first place, helping people to move on from the bad things that happened in their lives and focus on the good days ahead.

She watches the little girl, bubbling with excitement as she her uncle, aunt, parents, grandparents and family friends shower her with love and attention.

A beautiful and happy family.

She couldn’t wait to have hers’

The day had come to an end. Everyone had retired to their homes. Lucille had tucked in Angel before she joined Dominique on the terrace. She wraps her arms around his broad shoulders.

“Today was amazing.”

“It was, it was good to see everyone again.” Dominique replies. Years ago, if anyone had told him, he would be spending the rest of his life with his best friend — he would’ve scoffed in disbelief but here is was…

Their wedding was the talk of the country, it was simple – yet elegant. Peter had been privileged to walk Lucille down the aisle and Dominique eyes had ‘watered’ at the sight of his beautiful bride that day.

“You know, I love you. You’ve given me the best gift in the whole world. Thank you.” He places a kiss on her lips.

“I love you too Dominique, more than you ever know.”

“C’mon, let’s go to bed. We’ve to keep trying if we wanna have baby number two soon.” Dominique teased, wiggling his eyebrows suggestively. Before, she can respond – he picks her up – bridal style as they both rush to the bedroom.

“I love you, mon chèri.”

“And I love you so much, my darling husband.”
