She got to the dinning room only to see that apart from her parents there was no one else there to eat dinner with them.
“Everyone went to explore the town and decided on eating dinner out. Since Gerald was busy in his room and you were asleep. You two couldn’t go. So I decided to prepare something for you both. I hope you like it” Arabella mother explained even as Gerald pulled back her chair for her to seat.
Arabella knew her mother didn’t make an attempt to get near the kitchen to cook their dinner. So why is she lying? Arabella thought as she picked up her cutlery only to hear her father say.
“Won’t you greet your father or am I too invincible for you?”He asked and quickly she got off her chair and moved towards him to kiss him on the cheek.
“How are you you, Dad?”She asked.
“Though it’s five years too late to ask. Am doing fine”He replied arrogantly.
Feeling like a fool for asking. She went back to her seat while the staff came to serve them the food.
“Doesn’t it smell good? Its a great dish. I prepared it with so much love “Her mother said to Gerald.
“Really? Just like you’ve prepared it with so much love. I will surely eat it with so much love” Gerald replied earning a smile from her mom.
“Well I also hope that you will take care of my daughter. She’s been through a lot in life and having you by her side will surely be the best thing for her.”
Arabella smiled synically to herself. She should have known that whining and dining Gerald had a reason. She had also said the same thing to John five years ago and now she’s saying the same thing to Gerald. Until when will she stop trying to sell her daughter off to the highest bidder. Arabella thought as she tried to hold back her anger.
“What my wife is trying to say is that Arabella is still too young to take care of herself. She sometimes do stupid things and make silly mistakes which results in dangerous consequence. All we are asking for is that you watch over her for us”Her father chipped in.
Trust her father to also say something. She knew that the silly mistake he was talking about had to do with her pregnancy. He had never forgiven her for what she did and that was why he had given her child away as soon as she was born.
She had thought that as years past. He would be in regret for giving his grand child away but he isn’t. She thought as she stared at him.
“I will surely do that do”She heard Gerald reply and she knew then that she had had it with everyone.
“Why would you do that?”she said suddenly as all eyes turned to her.
“Why would you look out for me when am just your employee? Do you do the same for everyone else?”She asked starring at Gerald who was also starring at her back.
“What are you saying Arabella?”Her mother whispered at her and she threw her cutlery down on the table.
“Have had enough of this nonsense and I would like to leave “Arabella said as she stood up .
“Arabella stop right there!”her father called making her stop immediately.
“Don’t be rude and come back to the table”He said and breathing out an angry sigh, she turned to stare at her father.
“And watch how you and mom try to sell me to Gerald. I would rather leave than to watch that”She said as she turned to leave again.
“Arabella to my study”Her father commanded as he stood up, heading to his study. She didn’t want to follow but seeing Gerald made her feel embarrassed at having to have him watch the fight going on between her and her parent.
As soon as she got into the library. She was welcome with a slap. It isn’t the first time her father will hit her and so she is used to it.
“How dare you try to ridicule your mom and I?”He asked starring at her.
“And how dare you try to sell me off to Gerald? You have no right to do that when I can certainly take care of myself!”She yelled at him in return.
“Your future is the only thing we are thinking of. When will you stop being ungrateful and try to accept the help we are giving to you”He said.
