? BIDDING CEREMONY ?
Almost immediately a sudden force lift the Witch’s legs off the floor and hung her in mid-air, chocking her
A sudden force hit Kalinda and she staggered back, the witch fell and vanished instantly
An arrow flee past her and she looked in the direction where the arrow came from only to see King Tyrone’s army
Without wasting a second, she took to her heels and ran into the woods, she ran as fast as her legs could carry her and the army ran after her
She was still running when a hand suddenly pulled her back dragging her behind a tree, the person covered her mouth
Kalinda started struggling
“Shhh, they will hear you,” a male voice whispered into her ear and she kept came
The soldiers ran past them and the person released her, she turned to him only to see two boys
“You have to hide at a time like this for you to be able to get away from king Tyrone’s army,” the guy said grinning
“I had it under control,” she replied and he chuckled
“Of course you did!” He uttered
“I did,” she replied instantly
He chuckled softly
“Alright… I get it but what kind of a man will I be if I don’t help a woman?” He asked, he has a light smile on his face
“The usual kind,” she replied instantly
He exchange glances with his friend who laughed lightly
“Tough,” he mumbled under his breath and turn to her
“What’s a woman doing out here in the woods alone?” He asked and she scoffed
“What are you doing out here alone?” She asked instead
“We will talk about that later but right now let’s ride home,” he said and she kept quiet
“Hey, am not leaving you here, so it’s either you ride with us home or we all die here by King Tyrone’s army,” he added
The other guy blow a whistle with his mouth and two horses ran to them, the lifesaver climbed the brown horse and opened his palm
“Have got mine,” she replied and also blow a whistle with her mouth
A white horse ran towards them with Jeff behind it
“Is that your man?” The guy asked and she scoffed
“He’s dead, any idea where I can bury him?” She asked instead and he nodded
*******
They already buried Jeffrey in the night and the guy took her to their community
A small village in the middle East, he stopped at the entrance and looked at her with a smile
“I’m Xavier,” he said and offered a handshake
Kalinda didn’t even spare him a glance, she was staring into space
“This is when you offer your name In return,” he added and gently took down his hand
She still didn’t look at him
“Look, do you have a name?” He asked and she looked at him
“It’s Kalinda,” she replied
“And your reason for coming here?” He asked and she looked away
“I am… I’m here for … I mean… I want….”
Xavier chuckled and shook his head
“As long as you’re making it up, at least try and make it sound interesting, hope you’re not a witch cos magic is not allowed in this community,” Xavier said
She kept quiet
“Lemme guess, you’re the daughter of a noble man and your father, he… Emm… He pledges you to the King… no, to his son… prince Tyrone the II and you run away on the day of your betrothal,” Xavier said
“Is there anywhere I can get a drink here?” Kalinda asked instead and he looked at her
“We have to see the head of the community before you will be allowed to move around,” Xavier said and she nodded
“Lead the way,” Kalinda said and he chuckled
“So tough,” he mumbled
******
“Minerva McGonagall,” Xavier called as they walked into the woman’s chamber
The woman stared at them
“A good Catch you have got behind you,” Minerva said and Xavier kept quiet
“What can I do you for? Young lady!” She added and Kalinda wasn’t listening
Xavier gently tapped her
“Am at your service,” Kalinda replied and the woman looked at Xavier before taking her gaze to Kalinda
“Well let’s say you’re here for peace and not war, if not I will feed your flesh to the sharks in the sea,” the woman said
“Well, then expect nothing less of me,” Kalinda replied and Minerva took a few steps toward her
“It is what it is,” she uttered and take her gaze to Xavier
“She’s in your custody,” Minerva added and walked away
“Where can I get a drink? Or food?” Kalinda asked and Xavier chuckled
“Come, I will show you….”
“Point me in the direction,” she cut in and he nodded with a light smile
“I insist,” he added
She started walking away and he followed her instantly
“Who’s that woman?” Kalinda said
“My mother, she’s in charge of this community,” he replied gently
“King Tyrone doesn’t bother your people,” she asked and she shook his head
“As long as we pay tax on time he will leave us alone, besides some of us are his soldier and we fight for him,” Xavier replied
“You mean fighting and killing innocent people?” Kalinda asked and he stopped walking
“A lot of good men died protecting the wrong people,” Xavier replied
Kalinda turned and face him
“Wrong people you say, have seen what your King Tyrone do to people and people like you who work for him are just like him,” Kalinda said, her voice changed
“Am not his army….” Xavier tried to defend himself but she cut him short
“It makes no difference, you work for King Tyrone you kill for King Tyrone,” she added and he scoffed
Xavier frowned at her
“You know the only killing I have done recently is protecting a woman who was trying to bury her friend from King Tyrone’s army, so does that somehow offend you?” Xavier asked staring directly into her eyes
Kalinda looked away and face down, she gulped nothing and looked at him
“Nah,” she gulped again and looked down
“And thank you for saving my life, I mean… it’s a debt am not very good at saying thanks,” She replied and walked away instantly
Xavier stood there staring at her back till she went out of sight
