Chapter Eleven
The car stopped in front of Rose house and instead of getting down like she was meant to, she sat in the car. Occupied by her thoughts.
“Aren’t you getting off?”Louis who had been seated beside her asked jolting her out of her thought.
“Why? Why did you say I was your cure earlier?”She asked as she stared at Louis.
Through their ride back home, she has been thinking about what he said earlier. She had been surprised by the fierce hug he had given her and what surprised her more was him saying she was his cure.
She had wanted to ask him but Peter and other Martin arrived and they had spent some more time at the party.
When she decided to leave, Louis chose to give her a lift which she accepted because she had to ask him about what he said.
“Really? Did I say that?” He asked and she nodded.
“Well that must have slip out because of what was happening during that time. You shouldn’t put too much thought in it “Louis said quickly trying to cover up the fact that she heard him saying that.
She was prevented from saying anything when she got a call.
“I think you should listen to me first before you say that”
“I didn’t mean to leave……hold on….don’t……” She stopped talking when the caller switched off the phone.
“Am screwed”Rose said as she messed her hair up in anger.
“What’s wrong?” Louis asked.
“I was just fired from my job. This is all because I left there unannounced”She said sadly.
“That’s it and I thought it was something more serious”Louis said without a care in the world.
“So me losing my job is not something serious?”Rose asked getting annoyed.
“You can find some where else to work and I think you should quit work entirely. Don’t you know that by being a cleaner in a hotel owned by one of the students family makes you look like the loser they call you and besides your working as a cleaner is degrading the school name” Louis said without thinking
” Is that what you think?”Rose asked clearly hurt by what he said.
“Of course. Have been meaning to tell you and am glad I did” Louis said.
“You really are a jerk”She yelled at him suddenly.
“What? “.
“I might be called a loser because am poor but am proud that I didn’t grow up to be spoilt rich brat like you” She yelled at him fiercely.
“What did you just call me?”He yelled in return.
“While watching my mom attend to mean customers while she lower her pride and take in their insult. I decided to work, to help support her and hoping that someday I will be able to save a lot to stop her from working. I got a scholarship into a school which is full of bullies and even though I was beaten up, I never thought of giving up because I had to provide for my family. A rich kid like yourself won’t understand me. I didn’t choose to be poor but one thing am glad of is that am proud to have the family I have. So you have no right to judge me. You spoilt brat! “she yelled the last sentence at him before getting out of his car. Slamming the door to show how angry she was.
Louis sat in silence starring at Rose as she went into the restaurant. He didn’t really meant what he said. It was only a joke .
“Do people get angry at things that are meant to be a joke?”He asked his driver who had been seated at the front seat waiting for his young master order.
“I don’t think it’s a joke. It’s an insult”The driver answered truthfully.
“There are times when I expect you not to tell me the truth. Let’s head home”Louis ordered and the driver drove off.
THE NEXT DAY
Rose stood on the rooftop while she went through a newspaper for job vacancies.
The ones she had seen so far turns out to be taken or they were too far. The hotel had been her best choice so far.
Rose was still occupied with the newspaper when a can of soda appeared in front of her.
She looked up to see Louis standing there with the can in her hands.
He had been rude to her last night and this morning. He had ignored her existence, even when she had came to give him his coffee as usual. He only thanked her and continued wh@tëver he was doing.
He had even ignored her when she and Lilian were heading to the cafeteria and had only acknowledge Lilian presence instead.
“I figured you might need a drink”He said softly
“Thanks but am not thirsty”She said still annoyed with him.
“I can’t do this anymore”He said
“Do what?”She asked
“Ignoring me won’t undo what happened yesterday”
“And who told you I was ignoring you? I think you are the one doing that”She said as she packed her stuff.
She stood up wanting to leave but his hold on her hand prevented her from doing so.
“If I apologise will that do the trick?”he asked and she stared at him surprised that he is willing to apologise. Someone who have never apologised to anyone is willing to apologise to her.
“I don’t have time for this Louis. I still need to look for a job”She said as she tried to pull her hand from his.
“Am sorry. Am sorry for belittling you. It was just a joke from my side. I didn’t know it meant that much to you. Your right in saying that am a….a…..spoilt brat”he forced himself to say the last part that it got Rose laughing.
“Does it mean that am forgiven?”He asked quickly.
“Seeing how your desperate for my forgiveness then your forgiven”She said happy by the fact that they made up.
He took the newspaper from her and threw it away.
“That cost me money!”She yelled at him
“You don’t need it because I found you a job”He said
“Really? What sort of job?”She asked
“Meet me at the school parking lot when the school ends. I will be with Lilian just incase I need you to do something for me”He said as he began to walk off.
“It’s back to being the boss right? I shouldn’t have forgiven you”She yelled at him.
“You love me the way I am right?”He tossed at her as he walked off.
“Its the opposite I feel for you”She yelled after him but his reply was the wave of his hand.
As soon as school end, Rose happily headed to the school parking lot. She was writing a message to her mother about acquiring a new job when she collided into someone.
She was about to apologise when she looked up and saw that it was Peter. She hadnt been thinking of him until seeing him now.
She found it odd because she had always been thinking about him but ever since last night. Her thoughts have been filled with Louis which she found more odd.
“Am sorry”She muttered as she gave him a smile
“It’s okay. I was busy looking at my phone too”he said in return.
“You left with Louis last night and I didn’t get to ask you something”Peter broke the silence
“What is it?”Rose asked feeling excited.
“I was given a concert ticket which will be happening tomorrow and I was hoping for you to come”He asked and Rose was about to answer when she saw Louis by his car and he wasn’t alone. He was with Lilian and they were kissing.
She stood still watching them and felt a strange feeling. A feeling of anger. Why is she angry seeing Lilian and Louis together. She had gotten them together hoping this will happen someday.
They stopped kissing and she watched as he accompanied Lilian to her car. Seeing Lilian and Louis together made her angry. Something she found strange.
“Are you okay Rose?”Peter asked and she turned to Peter who she had kept waiting.
“I will go with you”Rose said quickly. Louis and Lilian weren’t her concern. What she should focus on is Peter. The guy she likes. She thought as she smiled at him.
