Chapter Twenty two & Twenty three
“Hello. Am Yu si Feng” the Chinese kid said as he moved towards Rose. Claiming her attention.
“Am Rose”she replied giving him a smile which got Louis infuriated.
“You really are….you are….I don’t know how to say it in English”he said as he stretched out his hand to shake Rose but Louis decided to meddle.
“Now look here. You came here to prepare the trip for your school with Martin. So face it and stay away!” Louis said to him In Chinese.
“But I….I was just trying to tell her that she is beautiful”Yu si Feng returned In Chinese.
“She doesn’t need you to do that. We are already doing that. So just focus on what you came here to do and Leave. How dare you try to woo a girl from our school?”Louis returned in Chinese and Yu si Feng had no choice but to return to his seat.
“I should have learnt Chinese too”Martin said to Louis.
“The kid looks sad. What did you say to him?”Peter asked.
“That’s right! What did you say to him?”Rose chorused Peter question.
“Something he should know before trying to meddle with someone”Louis returned starring at Rose.
“What did he say?”Martin questioned Yu si Feng who didn’t say anything in return.
“You must really have scared him”Peter chipped in.
“Don’t pay attention to him. Wh@tëver he told you is nothing. “Rose said and Yu si Feng looked up to give her a smile which she returned.
“This won’t do. Let’s go out and talk”Louis said as he pulled her out of the room.
“Just what is your problem? “she asked as she pulled her hand away.
“Flirting with the Chinese kid is not something to be condone” Louis stated firmly.
“Flirting? How dare you insinuate that I…..forget it! Am not going on that trip. So take back your money”Rose returned angrily.
“The money has been payed. Just come along. It would be boring without you”He said gently trying to cajole her to accept.
“No. Am not going and that’s final. Find someone else to play with while you go on your trip!”She yelled at him and before he could say another word. She was already walking off.
Rose stood at the rooftop. Trying to read while she watched students going about to do their thing. Thinking about her incident with Louis earlier. She sighed out loud.
“Is going to the trip that much of a big deal?”someone said behind her and she turned to see Peter there.
“It’s not that. I just want to spend my time doing something useful and also to help my mom” she said as he walked towards her.
“You are working yourself too hard. You will break down someday”Peter said.
“That will be when am old and Gray. I have to make use of my youth”she returned and he smiled going silent for a while before saying his next word.
“This is the first time I see Louis paying for someone else. He never does that for us. He has always been frugal but when it comes to you he isn’t”Peter said starring at her.
“Maybe it’s because he is looking for someone to bully while going for the trip”She countered.
“I doubt that. I think he knows that you work yourself too hard and wants you to take a rest”
“Who does he think he is to want me to take a rest?”
“Someone your heart belongs to” Peter said suddenly.
“What the hell is that?”She said quickly wanting to dissuade him of the thought.
“I knew it when I saw you crying at the cinema. You are in love with him but he was with Lilian and though he has broken up with Lilian. Your still suffering silently”He said again and she could only stare at him knowing she had been caught.
“Am sorry. I should have told you sooner but with everything going on, I……”
“It’s fine. You don’t owe me any explanation “Peter said.
“But I do. I fell for you first and just when you were reciprocating, this heart of mine had to fall for Louis. Am sorry, Peter. I didn’t want to hurt you”She said as the tears Spilled gently.
He wiped it off away before hugging her.”You don’t have to be sorry. You don’t tell your heart who to love. Wh@tëver happens just know that I will be happy for you”Peter said and that got her crying more.
“Your such a good person Peter. Am really sorry for hurting you”She said as she pulled away from him.
“It’s okay. Am fine with it and besides I think Louis likes you”He said and she went all silent starring at him.
“That’s impossible”She said softly.
“Why?”
“Lilian told him of my feelings for him but he clearly made it clear that he could never feel the same way for me. He told me to get rid of my feelings for him”She said.
“And?”Peter asked waiting for her answer.
“And am doing just that. Just like he says am going to move on from him. I still don’t know how to achieve that but I will be sure to do just that”She said as she gazed at the students.
“Wh@tëver you do. Know that I will always support you” Peter said earning a smile from Rose.
“Thank you, Peter.”
“If you are that grateful then come to the trip”Peter suggested.
“Not that” she said as she took her things heading back to class
“Just come” Peter said as he went after her.
THE NEXT DAY
Louis sat In the bus front seat waiting for Rose to show up. He had been worried about her refusal to go on the trip but Peter relieved him about it. Though he was a bit annoyed by Peter succeeding in getting her to accept.
Other students began to come in. The girls admiring him while the guys called him cool for the charismatic way he looked.
He wasn’t bothered about that. What was bothering him was Rose who hadn’t shown up yet.
Peter walked in greeting him while he went to take the free front seat on the second row and a while later Martin followed suit.
“You saved a seat for me. I love you”Martin said as he was about to seat when Louis kicked him in the @$$.
“A seat for you my foot! Find somewhere else to seat” Louis said to him and just at that moment Rose walked in.
“You are quite late”He said getting her attention, wanting her to notice the empty seat beside him.
” You should be glad that am here”She retorted before going to seat at the empty seat which was beside Peter, ignoring him.
Martin came back to seat beside him and with everyone on board. Their bus took off along with the neighbouring school bus which was following theirs.
While Martin and some other kids entertained the students. Louis sat watching Peter and Rose who were deeply In a conversation. She kept on laughing at what Peter was saying and when the whole thing had died down a bit. She slept while Peter gently layed her head on his shoulders.
He didn’t like it one bit but he had no say. Afterall she must have gotten over him while she and Peter must be an item again.
The bus stopped at a large cafeteria where they all went for lunch. Rose had gone to the rest room to wash her face and while coming out she met the Chinese kid from yesterday.
“It’s you again”He said in Chinese which she failed to understand.
“Am sorry. Am not that good in…. English”He said in English this time.
“It’s okay. Martin says your school will be accompanying us for the school trip”Rose said as they both head to cafeteria to get their lunch.
“Yes. Our bus is the one behind yours. Can I tell you something?”He asked suddenly and she nodded.
“You are really pretty. Have never met someone as pretty as you before”He said and Rose smiled before telling him thanks.
Together they head to a empty place to seat and Louis along with Peter and Martin sat starring at the two of them.
“I was wondering where he went to. Seems like he is into Rose. They will make a great couple” Martin said.
“Great couple my foot! How can she date a guy from the neighbouring school ?”Louis said angrily.
“Easy bro. I was just saying. You don’t have to get mad” Martin said.
“I am mad about it. Why did you have to bring the neighbouring school on this trip and you should be more angry seeing Rose and that kid together”Louis said to Peter who shrugged in reply.
He got up with his tray and went to join them halting the conversation they were having.
“Why are you here?”Rose asked as he sat beside her
“To talk too. I guess that what you two are talking about is very funny?”He asked waiting for a reply and when they didn’t reply he began to talk in Chinese.
“I thought I told you to stay away?”He asked Yu si Feng.
“Why? Pretty here has no problem with it” Yu si feng returned in Chinese.
“Pretty? Is that the silly Nick name you picked for her ?”Louis said in Chinese again.
“Yes and that’s because she is pretty”Yu si feng returned
“What’s this? Speak in English so I can understand”Rose said to them but he was in no mood to grant her request.
“Look! There are a lot of girls out there. You are free to court whoever you want but she is not available” Louis continued.
“Says who?”Yu si Feng questioned.
“Me”Louis returned.
“That’s it. I will leave you two to keep on talking in Chinese. Am a novice who don’t understand a thing”Rose said as she stood up and before they could stop her. She was already gone.
The two stared angrily at each other before getting up too.
