THIRST FOR MARRIAGE!!!!
Episode 6. A
The relationship between Wendy and I became shaky. I started feeling guilty and almost uncomfortable when I’m around her or when she invites me over to her place. She doesn’t know what’s going on. She trusts her husband-to-be and me, her best friend.
“You are going ahead with the plans of getting married to Wendy,” I told Toby during one of our late-night calls.
“Yeah, but it doesn’t mean anything.”
“Doesn’t mean anything, you say?” I queried. “Look, Toby, I can’t continue doing this with you behind the closet. I’m not getting any younger. I need a defined man in my life!”
“Calm down babe. Marriage isn’t an issue. The whole thing is complicated. You won’t even understand.” Toby plainly said amidst a few stammering.
“I can’t be a side chick to you, Toby. If you’re going ahead to marry Wendy, good and fine. I don’t have any problem with it. I’m not just gonna be a second option to anyone.” I yelled and hung up the call.
The pressure was actually getting wesser. I needed to get married at all costs. Toby, however, dropped an apology text message to me. He requested I should come over to his house so we could sort things out or rather, finalize our relationship so as not to waste each other’s time.
The next day, I honored his invitation. I went to his place and he welcomed me with warm hands. I got seated and we began talking. He drew close to me and professed how much he loved me.
“I worked for Wendy’s dad. At some point, a few things under my care got missing. I couldn’t pay back.” He paused and then continued. “After many threats and chaos, he approached me one certain time and told me that he has found a way to resolve the issue amicably. He told me that one of his daughters was interested in me. And that was how we bargained for marriage. But that wouldn’t stop me from finding true love, Grace. I need true love.” He finalized.
The atmosphere in the room shifted, and I could sense Toby’s presence drawing nearer.
