Chapter 20
Kiara backed Erik after placing Snowball in his hands and picked her call.
Natasha was the caller.
Erik watched Kiara,a light chuckle escaping his lips.
“Hey”Natasha said. “I just wanted to let you know that I won’t be staying home tonight”
“Oh”Kiara muttered
“Bye”Natasha said
“Bye”Kiara said also before disconnecting the call.
She turned to face Erik and met him staring at her
“Um…”She cleared her throat “Since I’ve given him a name…”
“Snowball”Erik said “Why’d you name him that?” Erik asked
“Well, he’s white, cute and playful”She said “You still don’t like it?”
“I didn’t say I didn’t like it”Erik said
“So,you like it?”Kiara asked, wanting to be sure
“I do”He said. “You’re still not staying for dinner?”He asked.
“I…”Kiara paused when his phone rang.
Erik brought out his phone from his pocket and checked the caller.
Sweetheart was written on the screen.
He picked the call.
“Ivy”He said.
Kiara took a few steps back wanting to give him some privacy when she heard him say ‘ ivy ‘.
“Hey”Ivy said “Are you busy?” She asked
“Um,No”He answered.
“Good,I was worried my call would be a disturbance…”
“It’s not” He said with a smile.
‘He has a really nice smile’ Kiara thought when she saw Erik smile.
He rarely smiled and the only times he smiled was whenever he was with Ivy.
Kiara had noticed this
He must really like her.
“Um…”Ivy began “Can you not plan any dates for us next week?”
Erik’s smile slowly disappeared.
“I have a really tight schedule next week and I’ll be really busy so… Please don’t be angry. I just…I won’t have time to go on any dates next week”
“Ivy…”
“I’m really sorry”She said and didn’t wait for him to respond before disconnecting the call.
Erik bit his lip and slowly brought down his hand.
Starting from how his smile disappeared,Kiara could tell things didn’t go well between Erik and Ivy again.
“Are… You okay?”She asked,feeling concerned.
“I am”Erik answered coldly, going to keep Snowball back in his cage “You can leave”He said in the same tone
“You don’t seem okay”Kiara said
Erik swallowed as he kept his hands on the cage,his eyes becoming teary as the pain he was feeling grew.
“Would… You like to go on a walk?”She asked.
He turned to look at her.

The flowers blossomed under the moon light, the colorful lights in the garden also added to the beauty of the flowers, giving the garden a pleasing appearance.
Erik walked beside Kiara with his hands in his pocket,staring at the flowers they walked passed.
They’ve been walking in silence for minutes.
Kiara felt he needed the silence and that was one of the reasons she brought him there in the first place.
Aside from it’s beauty,the garden also had a quiet and relaxing atmosphere.
She turned her head sideways to look at him and saw him staring at the flowers.
She was about to look away when he turned to face her.
She smiled at him,hoping he would say something but he didn’t.
She decided to speak instead.
“Do you feel any better?”She asked “I usually come here whenever I feel down and it usually makes me feel better”She said. “It’s sort of like my go to place whenever I’m depressed”
“Why?”He asked
“I don’t know… I just feel better whenever I come here”
“Must be really special”He muttered.
“What?”She asked
“This place. It must be really special to you”He said
“Yeah”She nodded.
“I’m not sure I’m really worth showing a place that feels special to you”He said “I’m pretty sure I’m on the list of people you dislike”
“I…”
“There’s no need to lie. I know I’m right”
“Well…Yeah”She said.
“What?”Erik asked, surprised that she actually admitted it.
He wasn’t expecting she would.
“Why would you show me this place then if I’m someone you dislike?”He asked
“I noticed the place you usually go whenever you felt down was your home so I felt like a change of environment would be nice and it’s not that I dislike you I just…”
“What?”
“Nothing”She shook her head
“You seem like you have something you want to say to me”
“I don’t”
“Yes,you do”He said.
“I’ll probably get punished if I say it so…”
“You can say it”Erik said
“I won’t get punished?”
“Just…Talk”He said
“Okay um…”She cleared her throat. “It’s not that I dislike you, it’s your… Personality”She paused wanting to see his reaction.
Erik really wanted to snap or scoff but he also wanted to know what she thought of him.
“Go on”
“Um…You can be annoying or act like a jerk at times…”
“A jerk? Annoying?”He asked in disbelief “Reasons?”He asked again.
“You’re fond of saying harsh words and despite knowing that it was my first time being an assistant,you could have helped to make things easier for me but you only helped in making it worse and…”
“And?”He raised a brow
“I’m just gonna end it there or you’ll change your mind about not punishing me”
“I didn’t say I won’t punish you”He said
“What?”
“But… Is that really what you think of me?”He asked
“Well, it’s not much of a big deal since I’m getting used to it”
“Is that supposed to make me feel better?”He asked.
“Better? There’s no way you took everything I said seriously”
“Of course I did,why wouldn’t I ?”
“It’s just my opinion, I’m sure others think differently. I mean… Ken sees you as a great boss and Emily sees you as her role model”
“Emily?”
“You… Probably don’t know her” She gave a short smile. “I’m sure others also have great opinions about you”
“But you don’t”He said.
She looked away and chuckled awkwardly.
“Maybe sometime my opinions of you will change” She said.
“Maybe?”He asked
He really didn’t like that she thought of him that way.
She nodded.
He stared at her and found himself hoping that her opinions of him would change.
He was beginning to get attracted to her and it wasn’t something he wanted to stop.
“Kiara”He suddenly called and she turned to face him “I’m sure this might feel inconvenient for you especially knowing what you think of me but I’d really like if you stayed with me whenever I feel down”
“Why?”She asked
“Nothing,I just… Having you around me feels really nice”He said.
Kiara chuckled awkwardly. “Um,okay”She said
“So,if I were to call and tell you that I was feeling down, you’d come stay with me?”He asked.
“Sure”She said.
He smiled.
Kiara smiled also.
He really does have a nice smile.
