Chapter 29
Kiara and Lex sat in silence until Lex spoke.
“You should eat before it gets cold”He pushed the food he ordered for her closer to her.
“You have something you’ve been wanting to tell me?” She said,her voice calm.
“I…”Lex looked down before looking at her again,his eyes becoming apologetic. “About what happened between us, I’m really sorry Kiara. I mean it. It was really stupid of me to try and change you and I shouldn’t have done that to you. Trust me,I h@të myself for doing that”He said sincerely.
Kiara swallowed, looking at him.
“Staying mad at you won’t do me any good and I can also tell you’re being sincere so, apology accepted” She said.
He smiled,relieved and happy. “Thank you”
She gave a short smile. “Since that’s been solved, I’ll leave now”She stood but he held her.
“I…Still have one more thing to say”He said, releasing her wrist.
She slowly sat, wondering what else he had to say to her.
“I…want us to try again”He said”Please.I won’t hurt you again,I promise”He said.
Kiara understood the message he was trying to pass to her.
“I’m sorry Lex but there’s no ‘us or trying again’ We can only be friends”She said.
Lex could feel his heart shatter into many pieces upon hearing her statement.
“I’m sorry”She said again with a smile so he wouldn’t think she was still angry with him.
“I understand”He faked a smile, trying to cover up his disappointment and sadness regarding her statement.
“Thanks for understanding” She said and stood up to leave.

“Ta-da”Kiara appeared in front of Emily with two paper bags in her hands.
“Kiara”Emily smiled.
“I got you these”Kiara placed the paper bags on Emily’s desk. “I was going to ask you to go out with me for lunch but something came up so I got you these instead”She said
“Aw, thanks”Emily said,opening the bags to check the content.
Kiara smiled in response.
“I can’t possibly eat all these alone. We should eat it together”Emily said, grabbing a chair for Kiara to sit. She emptied the paper bags and placed the foods on her desk.
Both shared a smile as they began eating.
“You seem really happy” Kiara said, observing how really happy she looked. She’s had a smile on her face since they began eating and even before they began.
“Well,I had a nice weekend”She smiled. “So,have you told Mr Erik of your idea yet?”She asked.
“Not yet”
“Why?”
“I’m waiting for the right time,I guess”
“Right time?”Emily laughed “Quit delaying it and just tell him already”She said.
Kiara sighed.
Kiara came out of Erik’s office after dropping a report on his desk and went to sit at hers.
She picked the tablet and began preparing Erik’s schedule for the next day.
Her eyes suddenly widened in surprise as she stared at the tablet.
“What’s wrong?”Ken asked.
“Mr Erik’s birthday is tomorrow”She said.
Ken checked the date on his phone.
“Oh,yeah. That’s right”He said.
“So,is there going to be like a party or something?”
“Nah. Mr Erik doesn’t really celebrate his birthday. What he usually does on his birthday is wait for Miss Ivy to show up and when she eventually comes, she’d spend a few minutes with him and then leave”He said. “And,now that he and Miss lvy are no longer dating…”He shook his head “He’s just gonna spend tomorrow alone”
Kiara pouted sadly as she glanced at Erik.
Ken sighed.
Kiara rested her back on her chair and went back to what she was doing but the thought of Erik spending his birthday alone occasionally occupied her mind.
The door to the office opened and they both looked in the direction of the door and saw Emily come in.
A smile appeared on Ken’s lips.
Emily smiled at him also and raised her hand lightly,waving at Kiara. “Hi”She said to her.
“Hi”Kiara said slowly as she switched glances between Ken and Emily. “Am I…missing something?”She asked.
Emily placed a kiss on Ken’s lips.
“Does that answer your question?”She asked.
Kiara giggled “Yes it does”She nodded “Aw, I’m happy for you two”She smiled
“Thanks” Ken smiled. “Um…”He stood “We’ll be leaving now” He held Emily’s hand.
“Bye”Emily said to Kiara and they began leaving the office.
“Hold on”Kiara suddenly said when a thought struck her and they paused, turning to look at her.
She went to meet them
“Would you guys be interested in helping me plan a surprise party?”She asked.
They exchanged glances before turning to look at her questionably.
She smiled.
Erik wore a shirt over his bare body after putting on a trouser. He just finished having a shower a few minutes ago.
Nathan came in.
“Are you feeling okay?”He asked
Erik faced him and nodded.
Nathan smiled.
“Dinner is ready”He announced.
“I’ll be in the dinning room in a minute”Erik said.
Nathan nodded.
“Happy birthday in advance” He grinned and Erik smiled.
“You remember”
“Of course,why wouldn’t I?”Nathan said “So,do you have any plans for tomorrow? You can come home early tomorrow. I’ll bake a cake for you”
“Thanks but I actually have plans with someone”
“Someone? Who? Could it be the person you’ve been eating out with these past few weeks?”
Erik looked at him curiously.
“I know there’s no way you’ve been eating out alone all these while. So, who’s the person?” Nathan asked.
“You know her” Erik said.
“I know her?”Nathan asked in surprise and went quiet for a while as he stared at Erik, giving a thought to what Erik said “No way,could it be Kiara?”
Erik nodded once.
“I knew it. She must be the reason why you’ve been so jovial lately and even took your break up with Miss Ivy well”Nathan said “Anyways,I hope you have fun with her tomorrow”He smiled.
Erik smiled also.
Daphne sat alone at a corner with her laptop and a cup of coffee in front of her.
She was watching the footage the camera she planted in Natasha’s office took that day to see if she could get anything that would help her reveal who Natasha truly is to Kiara.
She sighed and shut her laptop after watching the whole footage and still didn’t get anything that could help her.
She stood after finishing her coffee and made to leave the coffee shop but paused when she saw Lex.
He was sitting alone and looked depressed.
She went to meet him.
“I was right. You are stalking me”She said,though she knew he was probably not in the mood to respond to her.
He looked at her. His eyes were droopy.
She felt concerned but didn’t let her expression show it.
“What’s with you?”She asked. “You look like you’re going to pass out any minute from now”She said.
“Is it because Kiara still hasn’t given you a chance to speak to her?”
He sighed.
“She has and…We spoke today”He said.
“I’m guessing things didn’t go so well for you”She said.
“I asked if we could get back together but she…” He sighed.
“You weren’t expecting she’d say yes, were you?” She asked,sitting down.
“I already feel mad at myself,you don’t have to remind or make me”
“Oh,I know”She nodded and smiled “And, I’m not that heartless”She said. “Well,I hope you’ve learned your lessons”
He looked at her.
“I’ll take my leave” She stood.
“What did you come here to do by the way?”He asked seeing the laptop in her hand.
“Same reason as you”She answered.
“To wallow in self pity,regret and blame yourself for doing something you shouldn’t have done in the first place?”
“What?No. I came here for a cup of coffee”She said.
He glanced at her laptop. She noticed.
“Mind your business”She said.
“Yet you came and attacked me with questions”He said “How very mindful of you”
“I…Was just concerned”
“Concerned?I thought you h@tëd me”
“I have no reason to anymore seeing you’re now a changed person and you’re really going to criticize me for being considerate?” She retorted.
“I wasn’t trying to criti…”He sighed”Thanks for being considerate”He said.
She looked at him,surprised that he actually thanked her.
“I didn’t ask for your thank you”She said instead, hiding her surprise and pleasure.
He chuckled lightly. “Feisty. Always have been. I guess I’ll be seeing you some other time. We seem to be running into each other a lot lately”He said.
“Wipe that annoying smile off your face and keep wallowing in your self pity”She said before turning to leave.
Lex smiled as he watched her. His mood seemed to have gotten better after his conversation with her.
Daphne walked to the door,a smile appearing on her face as she did as she remembered her conversation with Lex and the part where he thanked her.
Her phone rang just as she was about to get to the door. She picked after checking the caller – Kiara.
“What’s up?”She asked “You back from work yet?”
“Yeah”Kiara answered. “How was work today?”She asked.
“Not bad”Daphne answered “You?”
“Same”Kiara replied “So,um… Would you be interested in helping me plan a surprise party for someone?”
“What kind of party? And who?”Daphne asked.

“That’s all for your schedule today sir”Kiara said to Erik after reading out his schedule to him.
He nodded.
“Um…” He cleared his throat “Would you be interested in going out with me today?”He asked.
