Chapter 46&47(SEMI-FINAL)
Daphne stared at him before releasing a smile to conceal the fact that she was flattered.
“Thanks for the compliment but that statement you made about me liking you…You’re mistaken” She said and began making her way back to the kitchen.
“Maybe. But,if I were to reverse that statement, which I am, there’s no being mistaken in it”He said and she turned to face him.
“What’s that supposed to mean?”She asked though she already knew he meant by what he just said or felt she knew what the sentence he just made could mean. Either ways,she wanted to be sure.
“Meaning,I like you”He said and her eyes couldn’t hide her surprise.
“What?”She muttered quietly.
“I know you probably don’t feel the same way but I just can’t hide my feelings anymore. I really like you Daphne. And,I don’t know… I just,I love being with you, seeing your face…It makes me feel in ways that I…”
The words he was saying,worked like a key, opening the door to feelings she’s been concealing and trying to suppress but it all came out and she couldn’t hide them anymore. She shouldn’t be hiding them. She had no reason to and presently,his words were a reason for her to no longer hide her feelings.
Lex’s sentence stopped halfway and his eyes were opened in surprise when he felt her lips on his. His lips parted as he stared down at her after she broke the kiss.
“I like you too” She confessed with an awkward smile.
“Really?”
Daphne nodded and he grinned happily as he stared at her.
Kiara sat with Erik on the couch with snowball on her legs, smiling as she stroked his fur.
Erik smiled as he watched her.
Nathan came in a minute later with a maid behind him. She had a tray in her hand which she placed on the table in front Erik and Kiara and left afterwards.
Kiara’s jaw dropped as she looked down at the contents of the tray – Yoghurt, cheesecake, brownies, amongst other sweets.
“I hope you’re hungry for dessert”Nathan smiled.
“She’s still trying to digest the feast you fed her in the dinning room”Erik said
“That’s not true”He said and faced Kiara “Right, Kiara?”He smiled sweetly at her.
“Uh… I don’t think there’s any more room in my stomach for dessert” Kiara said with a smile so he wouldn’t feel offended
“Oh”He muttered “I guess I’ll help you pack it then”He picked the tray and smiled at her before leaving the room.
Kiara turned to look at Erik
“He’s just really happy”Erik said and she chuckled.
“Well, it’s nice to see him happy”She smiled.
He smiled also.
Kiara reached for her bag and brought out her phone to check what the time was.
“Is it late already?”He asked.
“Twenty minutes past ten”She said “I’ll be leaving once it’s ten thirty. Sorry”She made a cute face “I have to go stay with Daphne”She said
“I understand” He smiled “I’ll drive you back home”
“It’s okay, I’ll take a taxi”
“I insist” He said and she smiled
“Thanks” She kissed him.
He smiled at her.
“Um…”Kiara said when she suddenly remembered something “Can I… Ask you something?”
“Sure”He answered.
“What do you think of a device that helps people recall memories in a way that feels like they’re reliving it? Do you think it’s possible to create such device?”Kiara asked
Erik sat up
“A device that helps people recall memories in a way that feels like they’re reliving it”He repeated “Well, that’s…”
“I’d show you my theories plus drawings and researches about it but I don’t have my jotter here with me”She said “Or wait, I can show it to you when you drop me off at Daphne’s place”
“Theories and researches about the device you just asked me?”Erik asked in surprise”I’d love to see that jotter”He said seriously.
Daphne looked up, surprised when Erik and Kiara came in.
“I didn’t realize you guys would be coming back together”She said to Kiara “Are you guys planning to spend the night together here or what?”She grinned
“You don’t mind if I spend the night here?”Erik asked, dropping the box in his hand on the table.
“Wait, you’re being serious about spending the night here?”Daphne blinked.
“No, he’s not. He’s just here because I have something to show to him”Kiara said.
“What? You don’t want me to stay here with you for the night?”He asked with a smile.
“I’ll get the jotter”Kiara said and left the living room.
“Aw, aren’t you two cute?”Daphne said.
Erik chuckled.
Kiara returned with the jotter and handed it to him.
He opened the jotter and began going through it while Kiara watched him.
“What’s in the box?”Daphne asked Kiara, pointing to the box on the table.
“Dessert”Kiara answered and Daphne sat up, opening the box. “Wow” She uttered in amazement. She brought out a brownie and took a bite. “This is really good” She remarked as she relished the taste.
Erik couldn’t believe his eyes as he went through Kiara’s jotter. Her theories were mind blowing and impressive. “This is…Wow” He muttered.
“So,what do you think?”Kiara asked “It can be created, right?”
“Yeah”He nodded “With everything I’ve seen in your book, there’s no doubt about it”He said and she smiled “But… Your theories,how did…”
“I studied neuroscience for two years”She answered, already knowing what his question would be.
“Why two years?”
Daphne raised her head to look at Kiara
“I… Wanted to help Natasha with her supermarket so I changed my major to economics”She muttered. “That was a total waste of four years”She muttered. She felt mad at herself.
“There’s no use regretting. Just be happy she isn’t here anymore”Daphne said.
“You may have only studied it for two years but what’s in your book feels like it was written by someone who studied it for four years”
“That’s an overstatement” Kiara said
“It’s not. You’re really smart Kiara” He chuckled.
Kiara smiled, feeling flattered
“Do you mind if I take your jotter with me?”He asked.
“No”She shook her head
He smiled and opened the jotter, going through it again.

< NEXT DAY ~ DAPHNE'S APARTMENT ~ (6PM)>
“Hey” Kiara smiled and stood as Emily walked in.
“Aw, I’ve missed you”Emily hugged her.
“You too”Kiara smiled. They broke the hug.
“Where’s Daphne?”Emily asked.
“She… Went on a date?”
“A date? With who?” Emily asked “Hold on,let me guess,Lex”
“How did you know?”
“Lucky guess”Emily smiled and sat.
“Well,you guessed right”Kiara smiled “So…How are things between you and Ken”
“Great”She smiled. “How are things going between you and Mr Erik also?” Emily asked. She was aware Kiara and Erik were now dating. Kiara told her.
“Great”Kiara answered with a smile “Daphne should be back anytime soon”She said after checking the time.
“It’s been a while since we’ve all hung out together”Emily said “I miss going out with you guys”She pouted.
“Yeah,me too”
“We should hang out together this weekend”Emily suggested
“Uh… I actually had plans to go to that tower with Erik but it’ll be fun if we all went together. Ken and Lex could also join us”
“Yeah, it’ll be fun”Emily nodded.
“Emily”Daphne smiled as she walked in.
“Hey”Emily smiled at her.
Daphne joined their conversation and they told her of their suggestion for a group outing to which she agreed and then they went on discussing about other things, mostly catching up.
°°TWO DAYS LATER°°
Erik and Kiara held hands glancing at each other occasionally with smiles on their faces as they walked down the busy streets.
“This feels nice”Erik said and Kiara smiled, nodding “We should do this more often.Taking a walk”
“Yeah” She nodded
“So,you said you had something to tell me?”She asked few minutes later. They were now walking in front of a park
He had called her earlier that day and said he had something to tell her
“Yeah” He nodded “So,I… told the lead scientist at the lab about your device and also showed him your book and…”He grinned at her “Starting from next week, we’ll start working on it”
Kiara’s eyes widened and she stopped walking.
“Really?”
He nodded.
Kiara couldn’t believe her ears. It’s been her dream for years to have that device created. She felt really happy.
She hugged him.
“Thanks,it really means a lot to me”She said.
Erik wrapped his arm around her and kissed her forehead. She smiled and raised her head, looking at him. He kissed her lips and smiled at her.
“What would you like to name the device?”He asked
“Um… I’m not really sure yet but I’ll let you know once I come up with a name”She said “I’m really excited” She grinned
“Yeah,I can tell”He chuckled.
She giggled.
He stared at her.
“I promise I’ll keep making you happy”He suddenly said
Kiara’s lips parted as she stared at him.
“I promise”He nodded
She smiled and wrapped her arms around his neck.
“Just knowing that I have you in my life makes me happy already”She said
They held gazes for a while before Erik brought his hand to her chin, tilted up her head and claimed her lips, kissing her.
The hall was filled to the brim with people who came to witness the unveiling program for the new tech device which Tech Builders would be launching.
Meanwhile,Erik was in the laboratory, speaking with the lead scientist,the one who took lead of the project. Erik also took part in it,along with the employees who work in the lab. They were also present, including Lex and Emily and were sharing a few encouraging words.
It’s been a long and hectic month for all of them but they were able to finish the project successfully
“Mr Erik, it’s almost six pm”Ken said beside him.
Erik rounded his speech up after thanking them for their hard work and left the lab with the lead scientist behind him.
Emily exhaled as she walked to Ken
“I hope the unveiling program goes as planned” She said
“You guys worked really hard for this, I’m sure it’ll go well”He smiled and kissed her
“Sorry to interrupt,but we should head down to the hall now. You guys can resume your romance after the unveiling program”Lex said to them.
Ken and Emily laughed.
“Like you’re not planning to do same to Daphne when you meet her in the hall”Ken said
“You guys have had your fun,I should have mine”He said.
They all giggled as they walked to the elevator.
Erik met Kiara in front of him immediately he stepped out of the elevator into the hall.
“You can go ahead, I’ll meet you backstage”He said to the lead scientist behind him and he nodded before leaving.
Kiara walked to him with a smile on her face.
Erik smiled as he gazed at her.
“You look amazing”He said and held her hand, bringing her closer to himself.
“You too”She smiled.
He brought his hand to her hair and stroked it fondly “Are you happy?”He asked
“Hmm-mm”She nodded.
“Lots of people are going to benefit from your device”He smiled at her
“I only brought the idea. You and your team of scientists are the ones who built it so it’s not mine alone”
He chuckled
Kiara glanced at the stage “It’s almost six pm. Good luck on your presentation”
“Good luck without a kiss?”He made a sad face.
She chuckled and moved closer to him, placing a kiss on his lips.
She broke the kiss but he wrapped his arms around her tightly and reconnected their lips.
Daphne sighed as she stood in the hall, waiting for Lex to show up. After a few minutes of waiting,a pair of arms wrapped around her from behind and she smiled, knowing who it was.
“Hey babe”He kissed her neck before releasing her.
She turned to face him with a smile.
He still had his lab coat on
“Sorry I kept you waiting,we were busy in the lab”He explained
“Apology accepted”She smiled “You still have your lab coat on, you’re not sitting in the audience?”
“No, I’m staying backstage with the rest of my team mates”He said. “But don’t worry, you’ll get to see my handsome face after the program”He grinned
“Don’t be ÇOçky”She said and held his face, pulling him into a kiss.

Few minutes later and Kiara was seated beside Daphne in the audience.
The smile on Kiara’s face turned into a grin when Erik appeared on stage. The hall went dark and the spotlight came on, shining directly on Erik.
