Chapter 7
“I have no idea sir”Erik’s driver bowed and moved away from Erik fearfully,seeing the angry look on his face
“Is this some sort of joke?”Erik turned to look at the sign on the restaurant again
“Should we head to another restaurant?”
“Just take me home. I’m already frustrated as it is” Erik said and entered the car.
His driver also got in and ignited the car
Just when they were about to leave,the sign on the restaurant fell on the ground.
Erik scoffed, getting more angry.
“We meet again”Lex said again to Kiara
“Let go of me”Kiara said and jerked her hand away from his.
“You’re still mad at me?”He asked “I know we didn’t end things in a good way but it doesn’t mean we can’t still be friends and if I remember clearly,it wasn’t really my fault we ended things”He said
“Not your fault?”Kiara scoffed “What are you even doing here?”
“I…started working here a few months ago” He said
“You?”
“None of your business”
“Would you quit being childish and let’s just start things over?Forget what happened and let’s be friends”
“Childish?”Kiara asked in disbelief
“I see you haven’t changed”He chuckled, staring at her backpack.
“You too”She said
“Come on, don’t be mad”He smiled and held her hand “Let’s go out to get some coffee”
“No thanks”She said and got into the elevator.
Lex sighed.
Kiara sat on her desk and sighed frustratedly
“That jerk”She muttered.
“What’s wrong?”Ken asked her
“Nothing”
“Have you had lunch yet?”He asked
“No”
“Do you mind if we have lunch together?”He asked
“No”She shook her head
“Come on,I know a great place”He smiled and stood
“You took care of Mr Erik’s reservation, right?”He asked her
“Yeah”She nodded.
“Welcome Sir” Nathan said as Erik walked in
Erik ignored him and went to sit on a couch instead.
“Did the date not go well?Again?”Nathan asked.
Erik turned to glare at him.
He later sighed.
“Don’t ask me about it”He said
“Why not tell Miss Ivy how you feel about her not giving you enough attention”
“And make her view me as a selfish person?”
“In my opinion,I think Miss Ivy is the selfish one here. You also have your own job but you make out time for her but she…”
“Stop”
Nathan sighed.
Erik stood and walked to the painting that was above the fire place.
He stared at it for a while before going to open the rabbit’s cage.
He brought it out and held it in his arms,smiling as he caressed it.
Nathan smiled as he stared at him.
The only time Erik ever smiled that way was when he was playing with his rabbit.
On the outside,Erik might seem like he had everything he could ever need but he was just a lonely person who’s been through a lot of torture and challenges that contributed to his loneliness
“Has he been fed?”Erik asked Nathan
“Yes”
Mentioning the word ‘fed’ made Erik remember the local restaurant.
“Whoever made that reservation…”He muttered and scoffed remembering how the sign fell.
Ken and Kiara exchanged glances as they stood in front of Erik’s desk.
He had asked them to follow him into his office immediately he arrived.
“Which one of you made yesterday’s reservation?”Erik asked, glaring at them
“I did”Kiara said
He scoffed “Of course”He said.
“Was it not to your liking sir?”She asked
“Not to my liking?”He slammed his fist on his desk.
Kiara flinched while Ken took a step back
“How the heck did you even come across such a restaurant?”He asked
“Well,I asked Ken about it and he told me to look up a restaurant online and I did. I found one named Royal Kitchen with a tag below it that said wine and dine like a king and…”
“And you picked it?”He asked angrily.
She swallowed
“Did something go wrong sir?”Ken asked
“You can get back to your desk Ken”He said
“Yes sir”Ken said and left immediately
“You…”He said, staring at Kiara “I’ll make sure you regret what you did”
“Sir?”Kiara asked wanting to be sure she heard him right.
‘Regret? Didn’t he like the restaurant?She picked it because it was the kind that suited his personality.
“What’s my schedule for today?”He asked and Kiara turned on the tablet.
“Why is she not here yet?”Emily muttered after checking the time on her wristwatch.
She had been looking forward to having lunch with Kiara.
“And I have no idea what part of the company she works in”She said.
She suddenly remembered seeing Lex and Kiara talk together the previous day.
She went to meet him.
“Hey”She said to him
“Hi?”Lex muttered,turning to look at her.
He and Emily had never really spoken to each other before.
They only greeted each other and were just colleagues.
“Um…I wanted to ask… You know Kiara,right?”She asked
“Yeah”He nodded
“Do you know what part of the company she works in?”
“Nope”He said
“Oh”
“Why are you being curious about what part of the company she works in?”He asked
“Well, we’re supposed to have lunch together”
“Really?Are you guys friends or what?”
“Not really”Emily said “You?”
“We’re friends”
“Is that a recent thing or…”
“We’ve been friends for a while” He smiled
“And you have no idea what part of the company your friend works in”She laughed
He cleared his throat
“Well,she keeps some things to herself”He said
“Alright… I’ll return to my desk”She said.
Lex stared at her as she walked away.
He chuckled as he remembered he and Kiara’s conversation the previous day.
“She’s still the same”He muttered.
Kiara sighed as she walked into the office with Erik.
They were just returning from a meeting.
They’ve been going from one meeting to another all day, causing her to miss lunch.
She dropped the files in her hands on his desk while he sat on his chair.
“That’s all for today’s schedule sir”She said
“There’s still one more thing left”He said
“Um…”She glanced at the tablet in her hand “No there isn’t”She shook her head
Erik stood and walked to her.
“Let’s go out for dinner”He said
“What?”
“You missed lunch, right?You seem like you could use some food. Come on”He said and began walking to the door.
Kiara stood looking confused.
Erik stopped when he got to the door and turned to face her.
“Out”He said with a straight face
Erik’s driver bowed immediately he saw Erik.
He opened the back door of the car and Erik got in.
“Get in. Front seat”Erik said to Kiara.
Kiara nodded and did as she was told.
“Where are we heading sir?”The driver asked
“Royal Kitchen”He said, staring intently at Kiara as he did
Kiara blinked and turned to glance at Erik who was seated at the back seat.
He gave her an unfriendly look.
The driver halted the car right in front of the restaurant.
Erik came out of the car and Kiara did the same.
She stared at the small building in front of her and her hands went up to her opened mouth when she saw the sign which read ‘Royal Kitchen’resting on the wall of the restaurant,a few feet away from the small wooden doorway.
She slowly turned to look at Erik, knowing why he was so angry earlier.
Erik smirked.
“Wine and dine like a king right?”He turned to look at Kiara. “Let’s go see how true it is”He said “Beautiful sign,right?”He said as he walked into the restaurant.
Kiara followed him in
Erik found an empty table which had four chairs around it.
He went to sit on one of the chairs.
The restaurant was crowded just like the previous day.
“I’m really sorry sir. I had no idea…”Kiara tried to apologize
“Sit”He said
She obeyed
“Um…Miss lvy wasn’t mad,was she?”She asked
Erik picked the menu on the table
“They even have a menu,how nice”He said sarcastically.
He handed the menu to her
“Order what you want”He said
“I’m not hungry, really”She declined, faking a smile.
“You missed lunch,of course you are”He said,sarcasm evident in his tone.
“I’m not. I had a heavy breakfast”
“If it’s that hard for you, I’ll help you order”He took the menu from her “You’re not a picky eater,are you? They seem to have a lot of dishes on the menu”He gave a mocking smile
Kiara sighed.
This was what he meant by making her ‘regret’
He called a waiter and showed the waiter what he would like to order.
“They even take reservations,impressive”He nodded,the look on his face showing the opposite of being impressed.
The waiter soon brought the food
“Go on”He urged her to eat “I’d like to see you wine and dine like a king” He pushed the food closer to her.
Kiara stared at the food,it wasn’t looking bad and was looking rather nice and delicious.
She picked a fork and stared at Erik who was also staring back at her as she slowly took a bite.
“Hmmm”Kiara nodded “it tastes really nice”She said
Erik arched his brow.
She took more bites and he stared at her as she did.
Watching her eat reminded him of the few times he and Ivy got to eat together.
He had never gotten a chance to watch Ivy eat and relish the taste as she did,not even when he cooked for her once.
She was always on her phone.
He almost smiled as he watched Kiara eat cutely but he stopped himself.
“I thought you had a heavy breakfast”He said
She raised her head to look at him.
“Uh…I actually got my appetite back after taking the first bite”
He scoffed
“The food tastes really nice,you should have a taste sir. The nice taste of the food must be the reason the restaurant is crowded”Kiara said
“I’m not interested”He said “Are you always this messy when you eat?”He asked staring at her oily lips
Kiara cleared her throat and licked her lips
He sighed before calling the waiter and requested a napkin
“I’m sorry sir,we ran out of napkins a few minutes ago”The waiter apologized before walking away
“Wow,no napkins”He clapped
He stared at Kiara’s oily lips again and sighed before reaching into his pocket.
He brought out an handkerchief and stretched it to her.
Kiara stared at it.
“Or do you have an handkerchief in your backpack?” He asked
