?CHAPTER SIX?
(*What happened???*)
“It’s been a long time” she laid so much emphasis on the LONG as she took a seat at the table crossing her legs.
“Not so long actually, just a year ago”
She smiled, “If that’s not long, what is?” She flung her hair to one side, “I really missed you”
He ignored her and turned to his secretary, “Shall we begin?” He asked her as he opened his laptop.
Veronica stood up and walked over to the projector,”So uhm, Good day. Welcome to DD’s company…”
*
The meeting was over, he stood up and gathered his files and his laptop. He stood up to go while Miss De_ra ran after him,
She caught up with him, “Hey”
“Miss Marius, we’re done for today” he scrutinized her with his gaze. How can a woman be clothed in red on such an important day.
“Always impassive”
“You’re not the first person to say that” he walked into his elevator while she followed him.
“How is Diane? Not seen her for a while”
“You don’t have to” he snapped putting his two hands into his pocket.
“You know I really appreciate the meeting we held today”
“That’s if the board members will approve the merger”
“You don’t need them to tell you what you’re gonna do. ” she nudged his shoulder, “You’re the boss after all”
He looked at her and she winked, “You didn’t change at all” she said.
“Neither did you”
She chuckled.
“I still look pretty”
He scoffed.
“Your taste for perfumes lurk around the air, and your sense of fashion” he let his eyes say the rest for him as he shook his head repeatedly.
“I deal in perfumes remember”
“But you’ve got no good taste for them”
“Never say something positive…” She murmured under her breath “Are you busy? Wanna have a date with you”
“I don’t want to have a date with you”
“Why? C’mon, you haven’t seen me for 365 days”
“It’s way past that” he corrected as the elevator chimed. It opened and he got out heading for the exit door while she kept following him.
“Dee, Come on, let’s go on a date”
He suddenly stopped walking and she bumped into his back, he turned, “Can you stop following me? Stop being childish.”
“I’m twenty-five” she pouted and he couldn’t help smirking.
“What has your age got to do with me?”
“A lot”
He furrowed his brows; “A lot?”
“Yeah, at least I’m younger than Diane”
*
He haven’t texted. He haven’t even called since he hung up on her. It seems like their relationship worsened because of what happened between them.
She regretted it…No she doesn’t but she’s trying to regret it. She wanted to text him but changed her mind.
She took up her bag, put on her heels and with her phone in her hand, she stormed out of her house.
When she reached her gate, Jeff was already there waiting for her. She smiled and got in while he gave her a peck,
“Hey” he cooed as he helped her with the seatbelt.
She relaxed; “Where are we going?”
“A date” he replied turning on the ignition,
“I know we have a date but where?”
“A sushi restaurant” he replied.
A sushi restaurant? All he could offer? Why won’t he take her to all these fancy places in NYC but a sushi restaurant?
The car started moving and then zoomed off while she fixated her gaze outside. She watched the tall buildings and malls, motels as they disappeared one after another as they passed.
Dee’s words came to her head screaming, A MAN? IS THAT THE MOST IMPORTANT THING TO YOU IN YOUR LIFE RIGHT NOW?
Is it? Will she be contented if she settles down with Jeff?
She sighed out which drew the attention of Jeff to her face,
“What’s wrong?” He asked patting her hair,
“Nothing, just a little bit disturbed”
He scoffed,
“Or you’re thinking about him again”
She frowned, “Must you always bring him up all the time?”
“Swear you didn’t think about him now!” He raised his voice and she feared.
He’s angry again which is bad. She kept quiet thinking it will make peace reign but it didn’t.
He pulled the car to a stop all of a sudden and turned to her, “Get out of my car now!”
She gasped in surprise. This man can’t be serious. What did she just do that will warrant him to take it so personal?
“What’s wrong with you Jeff?”
“Wrong with me?” He pointed to himself, “Do you even love me? Do you even think about how I feel each time you think about that jerk!”
“Stop calling him a jerk and…”
He interrupted, “Get outta my car now!”
“Where do you want me to go from here? ” she looked out of the car glass; “And I think it’s about to rain!”
“I don’t care!!”
What’s going on? She is about to burst right now. What’s wrong with Jeff? Why is he angry?
“I’m sorry Jeff” she blurted.
He forced the seat belt out of her roughly, “Get out now!” He raised his palm to hit her. She opened the door in fear and stepped out.
He threw her bag after her and zoomed off.
She was in a daze. What just happened?
*Devil doesn’t bargain, he will only break your heart again…It isn’t worth it darling…He is never gonna change*
It’s raining heavily… Damien thought as he stepped out of the bathroom and headed to his room.
Why is it raining so heavily? He thought. He picked up his phone to call Diane but changed his mind.
She might be in comfort of Jeff now. Calling her will put her in danger. He dropped his phone and picked up his towel running it through his wet hair.
Can’t remember where he kept his hair dryer. How he forgets things these days is really annoying.
His phone vibrated, it was a text message:
*Thanks for the date Dee, I really enjoyed spending some time with you*
He scoffed as he read the text, De_ra just stop being a baby… His phone started ringing.
DIANE❤
He grinned, “Hey” he cooed but something was wrong. He could only hear her soft cries, “What’s wrong?”
No reply.
Sh|t! That jerk is at it again! He didn’t even wait to put on his clothes as he rushed out, he climbed down his stairs and headed to the exit door.
He opened the door and there Diane stood shivering because of cold.
He was dumbstruck and angry as he saw how wet she was,
“What happened?”
She fell into his arms sobbing…
