?? ??? ???????? ?????????.
Theodore dragged a hand down his face. He had went on a group video call with those relatives who were luckily still awake. He wanted to discuss Belinda’s pregnancy and Christopher’s relationship with Meira, but the family was arguing–unsurprising and expected at this point.
“D’angelo! You have no right to talk about my cooking when you think chocolate milk comes from brown cows! I am a great cook and almost a Michelin-starred Chef, put some respect on my name!” Noemi De Leone barked at her nephew.
This time, the argument was between people from his wife’s family members.
“Noemi please, you cooked Mac and Cheese and call that being a ‘Michelin-starred Chef’? I may believe chocolate milk comes from brown cows but at least when I fry chicken the inside isn’t pink!” he sneered over the call. “Useless woman, how can you be Italian and not know how to cook? This is why your husband left you for his mistress!”
“How. Dare. You!”
The argument quickly urned into a screaming match until both hung up and everyone sat in awkward silence.
“Now that my sister-in-law and nephew has left, time to discuss more important things. Christopher, it has come to my attention that you and Belinda, my niece, had a secret relationship behind my stepdaughter’s back. The result of the scandalous relationship is pregnancy,” he pushed his glasses up and rested his elbows on the brown desk top. “What do you two have to say about this?”
“Mr. Hamilton, she lead me on!” Christopher quickly said. “I would never cheat on Meira, I love her. She’s the woman of my dreams and I plan to marry her. If it wasn’t for Belinda we wouldn’t have been in this mess!”
“Lies!” Belinda stood up to defend herself. “He came onto me, his excuse was Meira refused to have s*x with him. I had always kept my distance from Christopher but he seduced me with his lies. Don’t believe anything he says he’s a two-tongued snake! Meira has all the proof on her phone she can prove that he came to me first.”
Sitting in a room with the love of her life and her cousin who was carrying his baby gave Meira a throbbing headache. So many conflicting emotions clouded her heart, the worst is she still felt something for Christopher even after what he’d done. In the screenshots Belinda sent Chris had said many things like ‘She has so much stretch marks on her thighs, I wonder if she’s a human or a tiger’, ‘Who, me? I would never marry a big girl’, ‘Her thighs and arms are so big. I only dated her because she has a pretty face. She isn’t sëxy at all’, and so many other hurtful things.
She can’t believe she ever loved–and still loved–someone like that. Tears filled her eyes, the love in her heart morphing into icy bitterness. He played her for a f**l.
Meanwhile, Syahla searched on her phone: ‘How to convince the Government to legalize m*rder.’
Sitting there in an armchair near the marble fireplace in Theodore’s office Meira’s eyes subconsciously wandered to Christopher. He was a handsome man with brown hair, tips lightened by the sun, and eyes the color of molasses. He had been a jock in highschool and now attends Purdue Univeristy–one of the top five most prestigious institutions in America. Even now he still managed to make her heart tingle when she looked at him. It’s a pity he got her in this mess.
“Meira,” Christopher walked over and sat on a chair across from her. “Baby, I missed you. I’m so sorry about this. This is all Bella’s fault. If she hadn’t forced herself onto me, this wouldn’t have happened. I never meant to cheat on you. Baby, my darling, you’re the love of my life,” he took her hand and kissed her knuckles tenderly. “Forgive me. You’re the only woman I want.”
“Don’t believe him Meira he doesn’t love you! He’s playing with your heart! Chase him away!” Belinda warned. “He did the same thing with me and many other girls. Meira, he’s nothing but a no good cheating b*st*rd!”
“Meira, I raised you the best I could. Don’t you dare let this undercover serpent back into your life, or back into your heart. He is undeserving of your love,” Syahla’s fingers twitched, the urge to just end his life trying to take over.
“Mrs. Hamilton, I mean it, I love your daughter. Please don’t be this way, one day I’m going to be your son-in-law, you should be good to me,” he said in the softest voice a man could make. “Meira, you’re my everything. I had a football game scheduled today and canceled it just to book a flight and come to you. You’re my heartbeat. You are the reason why I smile everyday, ever since you came into my life everything has become better. Meira, please give me another chance, we can start over, work things out. Please, baby.”
Meira shed one tear, heart beating fast, fingers slowly reaching for his face. How she’d miss looking into those eyes. After all this time he still managed to make butterflies flutter wildly in her stomach. She thought shed gotten rid of them, but no, she still has feelings for Christopher Bailey. She watched him get off his chair to kneel at her feet, he leaned forward and kissed her knee. The tears she tried to blink back finally fell, if he h@tëd her body why did he kiss her there?
“Baby,” this time he leaned over Meira, looking down into her diamond eyes. “I still love you.”
She cupped his cheeks, he ran a finger over her jawline. They stared into the depths of each other’s soul. The world stilled as their gazes intensified, nothing mattered in that moment. Meira gave in to her emotions and came closer to the man she loved.
Christopher closed his eyes and leaned in for what he thought would be a kiss, but instead of that he received a slap so hard he stumbled back and toppled over the chair.
Audible gasps rang out both from the call and from those in the room.
“You forgot one crucial thing about me, Christopher, I don’t give second chances. You slip you slide, my mother raised a queen not an idi*t. Get the Füçk out of my life before I have to permanently remove you,” Meira grabbed the bottle of red wine on the table and emptied it all over him. “I love you, but I love me more.”
“That’s my daughter, you go girl!” Syahla cheered in the background. Her husband nodded his head, quite impressed at what she’d done.
What they didn’t know was that those actions, and words, strained Meira a lot. She pivoted on her heels and ran out of there crying uncontrollably as she shed hot tears. Her heart broke all over again.
It felt like a cold knife was stuck in her chest, blood trickled down internally from the wound, heck, she even felt the blade heating up while it remained buried in her heart. Like a great musician once said, heartbreak is savage and love is a b*ch–tonight Meira proved it to be true.

2:46 ?.?.
Sleep was far from the young woman’s mind as she walked along the pool. The lights at the bottom of the pool shone on her curvy figure and showcased her undying youthful beauty, so did the brightness of the moon shining down on her. A chilly wind blew her hair off her shoulders. She hugged herself to keep warm. She still loved Christopher, no doubt, but she wasn’t going to be a fool to love. Syahla’s right, he’s not worth it.
“I don’t need anyone to love me, mom loves me. I just need to love me,” she stopped walking and looked up to the sky. “How do people love and accept themselves for who they are? It’s so hard.”
A gentle wind blew past her, she received silence as a response. Not even a cricket chirped. This made her want to cry once more.
“You just do it.”
Her head shot to the right. Frightened, she almost stepped back into the pool. Someone was walking towards her, and this time she knew who he was.
It was Neon.
He stopped a few feet away from her, a gentle smile playing on his lips. “You can’t love someone if you don’t know how to love yourself. That’s a mistake a lot of people make in relationships nowadays.”
“You sound like an expert,” she faced him fully. “Your name is Neon, right?”
“Forgot me about me so fast? Ouch, I’m hurt,” he held his chest. “I haven’t forgot about you though, Snow.”
This made her lips quirk up, “Sorry, I just wanted to make sure it was you. My name is Meira, I don’t think I told you it. Just…out of pure curiosity, why do you call me Snow?”
“You remind me of Snow White, and we both know she was the fairest of them all, that’s why her stepmother sent a hunter to k!ll her,” his sultry voice appealed to her in ways she couldn’t fully comprehend.
For some reason she felt embarrassed. “Thanks, but I don’t think my looks are comparable to Snow White’s. She’s this pale-skinned sapphire-eyed beauty Goddess, while I’m just…average looking.”
“Are you calling me blind?” Neon’s brow lifted. He swiped his tongue over his lips and chuckled.
“No but, I mean, I’m not that beautiful, and why are you laughing? Did I say something funny?”
“Nah, it ain’t that sugar. Your adorableness is killing me,” he scratched the back of his neck and whispered underneath his breath, “??? ?????’? ???? ???? ??? ?**???? ???????????? ??? ?? ?? ???? ??. It aggravates me.”
Her cheeks took on a dark shade of red. “Th-thank you f-for saying that. N-no one’s ever s-said that to me, apart from my m-mom. It m-meant a lot to me,” she stuttered, inevitably dropping her gaze to the floor to avoid his.
Meira heard footsteps and looked up, he was now standing at the edge of the pool, looking down into it. His Adams apple bobbed as he swallowed, she couldn’t see his eyes which was a bummer. She loved his eyes.
“Have you ever been in a relationship before, Neon?” Meira randomly picked a question to ask, not wanting to end their convo so soon.
“??. Toxic ones, some involving physical ab*se. All carried gaslighting, dirty secrets, and devastating heartbreak. Looking back, I wish I never met some of the people I’ve met,” he striked his lighter and stared at the glowing orange flame. “But you know what they say, every bad experience is a lesson. Sometimes Sh|t gotta happen to you so you can learn.”
“…you’re right. Wow, Neon, you sound so wise!”
“Who feels it knows it. I speak from experience,” Neon ran his hand through his hair, revealing his heart-stopping side profile. “One thing I learned is to never go back to what broke you.”
Meira walked closer to him and stopped to stand by his side. His cologne slapped her in the face, a beautiful combination of Peppermint and Roses.
“You smell good,” she said without thinking.
“Of course I do,” he put his foot at the very edge of the pool and briefly dipped it in the water, causing a ripple. “I don’t mean to be rude, but what are you doin’ out here? Shouldn’t you be in bed?”
“I…” she paused. “I just broke things off with my boyfriend of two years. He cheated on me with my cousin, and got her pregnant. I feel like a f**l.”
Neon threw the lighter in the air and caught it midair, he looked over at Meira. “That’s why you were crying? No, darling, you don’t cry over Füçkers like that.”
“But it hurts,” she looked down sadly, preparing to shed more tears. “My heart hurts–”
“Shh,” he cut her off by placing a finger on her lips, there was just inches in between the pair now. “I know it does, come here,” he grabbed her by hrr nape and pulled her into his chest before wrapping his arms around her body.
Though surprised, Meira melted in his arms and hugged him back. She felt him rest his chin on her head, a reminder of how much taller he was. She wept in his embrace for God knows how long, all the while his manly smell attempted to stifle her–but she didn’t mind. Minutes filled with low cries passed, Neon pulled away to take a close look at her face. Seeing tear stains, he removed the white bandana from around his neck and used it to wipe them away.
“Neon…”
He hadn’t heard her calling, he was too preoccupied with melting holes into the ground with his mysterious eyes. Her words played over and over again in his head like a broken record. A fire that burned hotter than the Sun came ablaze inside him, lighting up his dark soul while revealing the multiple vicious demons hidden inside. They hissed at the brightness and receeded deeper into the shadows to continue lurking. Neon’s grip absentmindedly tightened around Meira. ‘He doesn’t deserve you,’ he didn’t notice the short girl in his arms struggling to breathe.
“Neon!” Meira almost yelled, she had been telling him to let go for so long but his grip only tightened. “Please let me go you’re hurting me!”
As if the guy had received a thunderous slap he released her and stared wide-eyed. He seemed to have not realized what he’d done. “…I am so sorry about that. Snow, this wasn’t my intention.”
The innocence in his eyes said what he couldn’t, Meira noticed how he fumbled to gather words, in the end resorting to scratching his head and avoid her gaze. “I’m not hurt, but please don’t do that again. Neon. I was going to ask you what your real name was.”
“Zayde. My name is Zayde,” he held his neck, eyes trained on the lights at the bottom of the pool that gave the water this electric blue glowing effect.
“You have a unique name,” Meira readjusted her clothing. “It suits you. It ended not very good, but thank you for hugging me. I needed that. This breakup has really taken a toll on me, I can feel the pain pulsing in my chest. I h@të this feeling.”
Neon’s warm and friendly swiftly shifted to a minacious one. He eyed her ominously, “I’d want someone to hug me too if I were sad. It’s no big deal, but I should get going.”
“What were you doing here anyway?”
“Came over to grab Ryat’s BT speaker but made a late minute decision to take a smoke.”
She sighed sadly, she enjoyed his company–despite the incident a while ago–though it was short. “Okay then. Thank you for staying with me! I appreciate it.”
“Don’t mention it,” he half-smiled. “See you around.”
“Hey wait!” she half-yelled as he started to walk off. “That tattoo on your neck, can I know what it means in English?”
“This?” he pointed at the tattoo on the right side of his neck, a brow arching. “I got this at sixteen, and it means…” he continued walking backwards until she could hardly see him in the dark. “??? ?? ??? ???? ??? ??? ?? ????????.”
He disappeared into the dark immediately after.
There was something sinister about that guy, but she wasn’t too worried. Meira sighed heavily and began making her way back inside the mansion.
Unbeknownst to her, a shadowed figure was standing under the shade of a tree. The person had blood trickling down between their fingers from clenching their fists too hard. Out of unbridled rage they kicked a BT-Speaker into the light then wrecked it with their heavy black boots.
