●GREENWICH VILLA ●
Noah private apartment
Soft jazz played in the background, just loud enough to fill the silence. The floor-to-ceiling windows revealed the glittering city skyline, lights blinking like tired stars.
Noah sat on the couch, now barefoot, shirt untucked, a glass of red wine in hand. He looked up as Irene entered from the guest bathroom, hair tied loosely, his hoodie hanging off her frame like it belonged there.
I
“You raided my closet again.”,he teased
“It’s not raiding if I practically live here.”,she replied and sat beside him on the couch
He handed her a second glass. Their fingers touched, lingering this time.
“To surviving another day.”,Hemuttered
“To not killing each other in the process.”,she added
They clinked glasses with a quiet smile.
A comfortable silence settled between them, broken only by the sound of rain beginning to tap against the windows.
“You ever wonder if this… is sustainable? Us. The work. The pressure.”She asked softly
“Every damn day. But I’d still choose this. I’d still choose you.” ,he replied without hesitation
She didn’t respond right away — just leaned her head on his shoulder, her fingers idly tracing the rim of her wineglass.
“Some days I forget where the job ends and we begin.”,she murmured
“We don’t need to draw lines. We just need to hold on,he whispered
Another pause. Deeper now. The kind that doesn’t need filling.
Then—
“What if I draw lines, she teased him
I will erase it and go after you,he replied
Then they both laughed, soft and genuine.
She turned her face up to his, brushing a kiss just under his jaw — not rushed, not demanding. Just a quiet reminder that despite everything, they were still them.
“You’re home now. Rest, Irene.”,he whispered
“With you… I can.”,she replied
Sylvia’s Room
The sun pushed its way through the clouds, painting Sylvia’s walls with faint streaks of gold. She stirred awake to the scent of cinnamon and the soft clatter of dishes from downstairs—her grandmother already in the kitchen.
The mask rested on her desk, catching the light. For a moment, it looked almost alive, like a sleeping part of herself waiting to awaken.
She sat up slowly, rubbing the remnants of sleep from her eyes, then walked over to it. Her fingertips brushed the black feather and the painted nightshade bloom.
The hidden crescent still shimmered faintly, tucked beneath the eye.
Just like in Ckart’s mural.
Her lips pressed into a thoughtful line.
Sylvia pulled out her notebook—the one she kept hidden behind her novels. She flipped past pages of poetry, unfinished sketches, and old lyrics… until she found a page she’d copied months ago.
A mural photograph.
Taken secretly in the underground tunnel near Brock’s old art exhibit.
A sweeping masterpiece of faceless dancers, swirling roses, and masked shadows. But near the corner…
A tiny crescent.
Almost invisible. Exactly the same.
“Was it a coincidence?” she murmured. “Or a message?”
Her phone buzzed.
A notification from the school group chat:
Brocks Academy: The Midnight masquerade gala is a week after the upcoming exam
Then her alarm ranged and she groaned, Oh I almost late for school.
Then she quickly threw on a cardigan over her uniform and tied her hair into a messy bun, and tucked her sketchbook into her bag .
Then she went to the kitchen and met her grandma cooking breakfast.
Good morning granny, she greeted.
My little Anna how was your night,Mae asked.
I had a peaceful night, she answered nad started eating her meal
After few minutes she bade her grandma goodbye and left for school.
Garden
The garden behind the science block was mostly empty—tucked away from the noise and gossip of the school courtyard. A few wooden benches sat beneath flowering trees, their petals falling gently like nature’s confetti.
Lily sat on the edge of one waiting for sylvia to arrive, her backpack beside her and a half-eaten meat pie in her hand. She was scrolling through her phone, earbuds in, lost in her own little world. She liked it this way—quiet, peaceful, invisible.
Until a shadow blocked the sun.
She looked up and saw Jeremy
Her heart jumped. He stood there in his untucked uniform, holding a cookie box he received from female student and his brows raised.
“You always eat lunch out here?”,he asked
Lily blinked, pulling out one earbud and answered “Since when do you care?”
Jeremy gave a lazy grin and sat beside her like it was the most natural thing.
“Since I saw you out here three days in a row and realized you might be onto something. It’s… calm.”,he muttered
She gave him a sideways glance. “You mean no screaming girls and no fanboys hyping you?”
He chuckled. “Exactly.”
They sat in silence for a moment, the sounds of distant laughter and football kicks barely audible.
“You’re not what I expected.”,she mutterd
“What did you expect?”,he asked while tilting his head
She shrugged. “Loud. Arrogant. Full of yourself.”
He smirked. “I save that for crowds. One-on-one, I’m just… Jeremy
Lily tried not to smile. “Still full of yourself.”
He grinned wider. “Fair.”
Another beat of silence. He glanced at her meat pie, then pulled a wrapped donut from his pocket.
“Wanna trade?”,he asked
“Seriously?”,she muttered
“I don’t trust cafeteria donuts. Yours looks homemade.”,he whispered about
She studied him, then handed it over. “Don’t say I never did anything for you.”
Their fingers brushed in the exchange—just for a second—but Lily felt it linger longer than it should’ve.
“Thanks, Lily ”,he whispered and smiled
Then she blinked and muttered with your shock “You know my name?”
He stood up, biting into the pie.
“Of course I do.”,he answered
Then he walked off, leaving her stunned.
As soon as he left Sylvia entered the garden with her backpack on her bag and went to sit beside Lily.
Then they greeted each other and Lily pulled Sylvia closer to her
Girl please pinch me,I think I’m dreaming I need to …….. before Lily could finish talking Sylvia pinched her hard and Lily screamed.
What’s happen to you and I saw one of the king squad coming out of the garden when I was coming,Sylvia muttered.
Then Lily narrate want happen between her and Jeremy few minutes ago.
Can’t believe my crush would know my name,Lily muttered happily.
What their to be excited about and it’s time for class,Sylvia murmured.
Then Lily carried her bag and they both left the garden for class
Then Sylvia entered the class and went to her seat beside Kingsley while Lily went to seat beside jayden
[Science Lab]
The bell rang for first period, echoing down the corridors of Brocks High. Students trudged toward the lab, some still rubbing sleep from their eyes.
Inside the science lab, the air held that faint, sharp chemical smell—the kind that clung to lab coats and lingered in your nostrils. Whiteboards lined the walls, scribbled with molecular formulas from yesterday’s class. Polished lab benches gleamed under the fluorescent lights, beakers and test tubes neatly arranged in trays.
One by one, the students filed in and took their seats. The rustle of lab manuals filled the room as they flipped open to today’s practical section.
At the front, Mr. Grant, the meticulous and sharp-eyed science teacher, adjusted his glasses and cleared his throat. His voice cut cleanly through the quiet hum.
“Today, we’re starting a new lab unit,” he began. “We’ll be working on reaction chains and learning to log chemical behaviors across variables.”
He spoke for nearly an hour—breaking down equations, safety protocols, and the expectations for lab conduct. Some students took notes. Others daydreamed.
Finally, he made the announcement everyone had been waiting for.
“For this week’s lab, you’ll work in pairs,” Mr. Grant said, tapping a marker on the whiteboard. “I’ve assigned the teams already. Your class rep will paste the list in your class shortly. You’ll have until Friday to submit your logs. Use your class periods and homework sessions wisely. Be efficient.”
With that, he snapped his folder shut and gave a nod.
“Class dismissed.”
Chairs scraped. Conversations started. Students streamed out of the lab in clusters—some already groaning about their potential lab partners.
Near the back, Sylvia quietly closed her practical manual. Her fingers hovered over her notebook for a moment. Then she lowered her eyes and whispered a silent prayer.
“Please don’t pair me with someone careless…”
She slung her bag over her shoulder and slipped out of the lab with Lily.
By second period, the buzz had already started.
The lab partner list.
Students clustered near the door of the classroom, voices overlapping in a mix of complaints, laughter, and curious chatter. Taped to the wall was a single A4 paper—freshly printed, names bolded and aligned.
“Ugh, not him again.”
“Yes! I got Kara.”
“Wait—who’s… Olivia?!”
Sylvia walked in quietly, weaving past the excited crowd. She wasn’t in a hurry to look. Her heart thumped with quiet anxiety.
Lily, seated at the back, waved her over.
“Hey! Did you check the list yet?” she asked, swinging her bag off her desk.
Sylvia shook her head. “Not yet.”
“You better go now before Davis starts announcing it out loud like it’s a game show.”
As if on cue, Davis, leaned against a desk near the door, reading out random pairings and he in an exaggerated tone.
“Ryan and Tiffany … oh, chemistry’ about to explode! And ooooh—look at this one—wait for it…”
Samara and Jayden, perfect fake ass combo
Then Sylvia stood up and walked to the front then she ignored him and stepped up to the list.
Her eyes scanned down the columns, searching for her name.
Then she found it.
SYLVIA KELLY – KINGSLEY BROCKS
She froze.
Her lips parted slightly, but no words came out.
Around her, the room faded into a low hum as the name echoed in her mind.
Kingsley Brocks.
The most untouchable guy in the school. Cold. Silent. Sharp-eyed. The same guy who barely spoke in class unless he had to.
The same one who had once stood up for her in the hallway—and never acknowledged it again.
Before she could fully process it, Lily reappeared beside her.
“Well?” she asked, peeking over her shoulder.
Sylvia stepped aside slightly, just enough for Lily to read the pairing.
There was a beat of silence.
Then Lily whispered, eyes wide, “No. Freaking. Way.”
Sylvia didn’t answer. She simply stared at the paper, her mind swirling.
This week just got a lot more complicated.
After a while third period started and the class became silent and after third period was done student started going to the cafeteria for break
[ ELITE STUDENT LOUNGE ]
Leather seats. Flat screens. Soundproof luxury.
It was the domain of Brocks High’s top five—the place where students dared not enter unless they had a reason. Or a death wish.
Kingsley Brocks sat in his usual spot: corner couch, back to the wall, sketchpad loosely held on his knee. His pencil was paused mid-sketch, lines half-formed. But his mind wasn’t on the drawing.
Davis burst in dramatically, flopping onto the adjacent armchair.
“You’ll never guess who you got paired with, bro,” Davis said with a smirk.
“I already saw it.” Kingsley didn’t look up.
Davis whistled low. “Sylvia Kelly? Seriously? The scholarship girl?”
Kingsley’s grip on his pencil tightened—just slightly.
“She’s quiet. Works alone. Doesn’t cause drama,” Kingsley said flatly. “Better than being stuck with someone loud.”
Davis laughed. “Yeah, but she’s… different. Like, weird different.”
Kingsley’s gaze flicked upward for a split second—sharp, cutting.
“Don’t say stuff like that if you don’t know her.”
Davis blinked, caught off guard.
Kingsley stood, shut his sketchbook, and walked toward the lounge doors.
As he passed, he muttered, almost to himself, “Maybe different is better.”
After he left Davis joined the rest and started playing video games with the rest except Jeremy who was busying walking on his laptop
Kenz,Ryan was paired with your bully crush,Davis muttered mockingly.
Who did Kingsley got paired with, Damien asked.
Sylvia the school nerd,Davis answered.
She isn’t a nerd she is just different, Jeremy muttered.
But she is kinda brave and she seems cool from afar so I don’t see her as a nerd,Kenzie added
Then they continue playing their game and Jeremy later joined the game
After Kingsley left the lounge he went to the class group and got Sylvia number from there
Then he sent her a text “Lets meet during free period in the lab for the group work.
Later in the day during free period Sylvia unlocked her phone and a message popped up on her screen so she went the other part of the class which was the labbl
The classroom was quieter than usual. Most students had left, except a few pairs working at their benches. Sylvia stood at the far side of the room, arranging glassware neatly. Her eyes flicked to the door.
He walked in—cool, unreadable, hands in his pockets.
Kingsley Brocks.
He barely looked at her as he slid into the seat beside her.
“You took the better side of the bench.”,he muttered.
“You were late.”,she retorted without looking up
“Didn’t know punctuality mattered when your partner already acts like I don’t exist.”,he whispered
Sylvia glanced at him, caught off guard by the sharpness in his tone. He was watching her now—closely, like he was studying something unfamiliar.
“We just need to get the work done.”,she muttered
“Right. Straight to business.”,he replied
There was a pause. He reached for a beaker, brushing her hand accidentally.
She froze. He didn’t.
“You’re not like the others.”,he spoke quiet
“That’s what they all say before laughing behind my back.”,she replied
Kingsley didn’t respond. Instead, he reached into his bag and pulled out a sleek black notebook. The corner had a faint charcoal smudge.
“Let’s start with the observation chart. You do the measurements, I’ll draw the setup.”,he muttered.
“You draw?”,she asked
He said nothing, but his pen was already moving—fluid, confident strokes. She glanced down, eyes widening. The lines were clean. Precise.
Almost like… someone she’d seen before.
But before she could think more, he slid the book toward her, lips tilting.
“Don’t let the rumors fool you, Sylvia. I’m not that shallow.”,he whispered
Sylvia stared at the drawing—her fingers hovering just above the paper. Her breath caught. There was something striking about the style: the precision, the confident lines, the quiet control in every stroke.
It didn’t match the image she had of him—cold, untouchable Kingsley Brocks.
Her pulse quickened, but she masked it with a small nod.
“You’re… good.”She muttered softly
“I know.”,he replied without looking up
Then he reached for the Bunsen burner without another word, his fingers brushing the same spot where a faint charcoal smudge lingered on the edge of the notebook.
Sylvia’s gaze followed the smudge like it was a trail to something deeper.
“Do you always keep your guard up, or is it just around me?”,he asked casually
She looked at him sharply, but he was already turning away, adjusting the flame like nothing had happened.
Outside, thunder rolled in the distance, though the sky was clear.
And in her chest, a chill settled.
For the first time, she wasn’t sure who was really sitting beside her.
