Charles was having difficulties sleeping all night, he tossed and turned on his bed before getting up and saw Violet staring outside the window.

“Why didn’t you turn off the lights? It could help you sleep well,” Violet said, and he shook his head.

“That will even be worse. Mind your own business,” he muttered, and went to his bar to drink.

“Are you trying to get drunk in other to get some sleep?”

“Why are you prying?”

“That must be the reason you get drunk everyday,”

“Stop acting like you know me. I don’t get drunk for any reason, I was just having fun,”

“And now?”

“Will you just mind your business?”

“If you are finding it difficult to sleep, a walk will do,”

“A walk? I’ll pass. Mr. Feng already left for the day, I don’t want to trouble him. Why am I even telling you this?”

“Because I’m the only one who will listen,”

“You are right. I am kinda of a loner now, thanks to you. I can’t even hangout with my friends, how will you take responsibility for what you have caused? You won’t even disappear as you promised, and I can’t scare you away either. It’s just infuriating!”

“I don’t know if it will help you relax, but there has always been somewhere I love to revisit. I couldn’t find time when I was alive, I was preoccupied with work. I went there recently, but too bad I couldn’t even touch anything. Do you want to go with me?”

“Are you asking me for a favor again?”

“It will help you relax, and chase your worries away,”

“Will it make you disappear?”

“You can figure out that on your own,”

“As I said earlier, Mr. Feng has left for the day. All my car keys are with him so there is no way I can go out. It’s almost midnight!”

“Then, let’s do it my way,”

“What way?” he asked, and she winked at him before holding his hand.
*
They both appeared in a strange place, and Charles looked around in fear.

“What’s this place? And how could we teleport again?”

“My parents calls it a flower land, because the entire place is covered with beautiful flowers,”

“You came here with your parents?”

“Yes. When I was a teenager. Ivy was a toddler back then,”

“She must’ve been really cute, just like the floors. It’s a beautiful flower land indeed. I wish I was able to visit here with my mum, she really love flowers,” he said, all smiles.

“Wow. I haven’t seen you smile this genuinely,”

“What? You think I don’t smile? I smile a lot, but not to you. I rather smile with your sister,” he said, and she hit his head.
“Hey!”

“I told you not to think about it,”

“Stop being violent,”

“Aren’t you supposed to be at your best here?”

“Why should I? What suddenly made you think you have the upper-hand?”

“We teleport down here, and you won’t be able to return without my help. Mr. Feng doesn’t even know your whereabouts, neither are you with your phone,”

“What?” he shouted in realization, and she ran off.
“Hey! Wait up! Don’t leave me behind!” he shouted, running after her.
*
They ran around for a while, and sat under a tree later. Violet tried to catch the falling flowers but they kept falling through, she struggled tirelessly and Charles chuckled before catching one and placed it on her hand.

She smiled delightfully, and looked at him.

“Are you that happy?”

“The flower is beautiful,”

“Because I picked it,”

“Can you pick one more?”

“Will you disappear if I do?”

“This one is more beautiful,” she said, and he chuckled.
*
They left the place later and walked around the neighborhood, after walking around for close to an hour, they sat on a bench by the roadside watching the few people passing by.

A dog ran to them later, and started barking at her.

“Sshhwww, go away,” Violet shouted, gesturing it to leave.
“Gosh, seems like dogs can really see ghosts,”

“Yes, dogs can, but this dog here is a ghost itself. Can’t you even recognize your kinds?” Charles muttered.

“What? The dog is a ghost?!” she exclaimed looking at the dog.
“But how can you tell?”

“I can just tell,”he said, and she looked at him.

“But how…” she grumbled with pouted lips.

“Look at it, it has no shadow,” he said, and she gasped upon realization, she looked at herself, and realized that she was the same —she never knew until then.

He threw something at the dog, scaring it away.

“So animal ghosts do wander around as well,”

“You should know better, since they are your kinds,”

“You do see animals ghosts as well…”

“What do you think?”

“How long have you been seeing ghosts… if I may ask…”

“You may not ask! We aren’t that close,”

“Do you also use that harmful substance on other ghosts as well,”

“What do you think?”

“You said they could disappear for good if you… throw that substance directly at them, have you ever done it before…”

“Them? They are your kinds,”

“Has it ever happened?”

“I guess…”

“It must‘ve happened a lot,”

“Maybe,”

“Is there one that you can never forget?” she asked, he looked at her, and bowed his head.

“I guess there is one,”

“Really?”

“She was as persistent as you are. She figured out that I could see her and pestered me since then. She wanted me to save her child from eating poison. Turns out her husband’s mistress plan to get rid of her child after successfully getting rid of her,”

“Oh, my. So, what did you do?”

“I sent her to demise. I watched her fade into thin air in tears…”

“Oh… that’s so sad,”

“A few days later, I saw a toddler ghost wandering around, looking for his mother. Turns out the child ate the poison,” he said, and she gasped.

“What? But… how did you know it was her child?”

“They were wearing the same vest. Turns out it was a family set,”

“You must’ve regretted your actions,”

“No!” he blurted, and she looked at him.

“No?”

“Instead, I regretted being unfortunate to see them. Everything would have been fine if I was just like others makes no difference, neither does it gives me any obligations to carry out thier assignments, I was just unfortunate, and that always tortured me, giving me sleepless night,”

“You might be mistaken, seeing them might not be what you regretted, but being unable to make a difference,”

“You are right. This works. I’m feeling sleepy now. Late night walks really help. Can we leave now?” he asked, and she nodded, wondering how difficult his life must’ve been.

Ivy tossed and turned on her bed thinking about her handsome savior that claimed to know her sister. She couldn’t get the thoughts of him out of her mind until the door suddenly burst open, and Ella barged in.

She got up immediately in fear, and looked at Ella who was shooting her dagger glares.

“What do you want?” she grumbled.

“Do you think colliding with Maxwell will do you any good? He betrayed your sister, what makes you certain that he will keep his promise to you?!” she blurted, and Ivy rolled her eyes.

“Kettle, calling pot black,” she grumbled, and Ella glared at her.

“What did you say?”

“Whatever you heard!”

“Ivy, I’m actually not trying to pick up fights with you, so behave. Maxwell wants to use you to get the boards approval, your sister might have transferred everything to him, but the boards don’t trust him. And if you actually agree to his plan, you will lose everything,”

“Are you here to convince me to act otherwise?”

“What do you think?”

“What’s your offer? If you want to strike a deal, you should at least have something to offer,”

“What did you say?”

“If you have nothing more to say, get out!” she blurted, and Ella slapped her.

“You really got some nerve. Go out there, and prepare breakfast for me, or I slice those precious hands of yours into pieces!” she lashed, and Ivy ran out in fear.

Mr. Feng entered Charles room after knocking, and was surprised to see him fast asleep. He smiled in contempt, and helped him organized his room properly. He was arranging the room when he saw his little diary.
Charles started keeping a dairy after his mother passed away, because that was the last thing his mother taught him.

He wanted to keep it in a better place when the diary fell off his hand, and flipped open to a page.
📝*Mummy,I am so scared. Mr. Feng isn’t here. Please return to me. You are the only one I want to see* the faded ink wrote, and Mr. Feng sniffed in trying to hide back his tears.

“Are you starting to intrude?” Charles said from behind, startling Mr. Feng.

“Sir…”

“That’s unprofessional,” Charles said, and collected the dairy from him

“Sir…” Mr. Feng muttered, and embraced him.

“Hey! Stop being clingy! I prefer to be this close to beautiful ladies only,” Charles said, and Violet scoffed.

He pushed Mr. Feng away and glared at Violet.

“Appearing as you please, do you think this is your domain?”

“Sir… I actually knocked bu-…” Mr. Feng was saying, but he cut in.

“Not you, but her!” he snapped, and Violet scoffed.

“Her? The ghost is back again?”

“Well, I might be referring to her, but you shouldn’t barge in either and intruding my stuffs,”

“I was just cleaning up. But I’ll leave you now, sir. But… I’ll be back,”

“Back for what again? Just drop my car key and leave! Stop being clingy!”

“Today is that day, sir…”

“What day?”

“Today is 13…”

“Oh… it’s today,”

“The chairman wants you to join them for breakfast,”

“Why should I? It’s not even Sunday,”

“You didn’t have breakfast with them last Sunday, either,”

“They just want to discuss what I am not interested in, I rather pass,”

“Sir…”

“That enough! Don’t push it,” with that, he went to the bathroom.

Mr. Feng exhaled heavily, and looked around.

“I don’t know the direction you are, but I could tell that you aren’t an evil spirt. You succeeded in stopping him from drinking last night, and he even slept soundly which has never happened in ages. So… I came to a conclusion… you might be the sent by his mother to watch over him. So, please take good care of him,” Mr. Feng said, bowing at the opposite direction of where Violet was before he left.

“Is Charles a special child?” Violet thought.
*
Charles got dressed later, and Violet went to him.

“Is today a big day?” she asked, and he chuckled.

“Bigger than you can imagine,” he muttered.

“Then it must be a special day,”

“Today is the day… the company anniversary, the day two thriving groups became one, and the day…” he said, and glared at her.
“Forget it! Why am I even discussing this with you?!” he blurted, and stormed out, startled to meet his father and Mr. Feng by the doorway.

“Must I come to get you myself?” his father blurted, and he rolled his eyes.

“Get me for what?”

“Must I repeat what I sent Mr. Feng?” he yelled.

“Oh, that? Breakfast? I thought Mr. Feng was mistaken, today is not even Sunday,”

“Have you forgotten what today is?”

“How can I ever forget mum’s death anniversary? And I am leaving home to pay my respect to her,” he said, and his father clenched his fist.

“We will pay our respects to your mother later in the day, don’t try to ruin today’s event like you always do! So if you aren’t going to behave, just seat back,”

“Are you here to tell me that my present is not needed?”

“What use wili your being there makes? You are always a shame to this family, so for this once, behave, by seating back,”

“No. I like to be there. I enjoy being there because during that ceremony that you can never miss.. my mother was alone on the cold beach, fighting for her life until she gave up. So, I will never miss that ceremony!”

“Dad, just let him be,” his stepbrother said, joining them.

Charles scoffed, and walked past them with Mr. Feng and Violet trailing after him.

“Sir, I don’t think you should go. It’s not even your type of audience,”

“Thanks to somebody, I can’t be around my type of audience anymore. Nothing is fun here,”

“Sir, I can help you make reservations in-…”

“Enough! You are paid to serve me, not them! Give me the keys,”

“Sir… where to?”

“Don’t follow me,” with that he collected the keys, and went to his car.
*
Charles drove in silent, and Violet sat at the backseat of his car not intending to disturb him. She could understand that he had a lot on his mind, and needs time to be alone, but she decide to follow him just incase she can be able to stop him from making any rash decisions.

He arrived at the lonely beach house and ordered for alcoholic drinks.

He sat on the sand to drink in and sat on the sand in company of several bottles of alcohol.

“Are you upset?” she found herself, asking.

“Must I answer that?” he asked back.

“Do you feel wronged?” she asked again, and he shook his head.

“No. I feel useless. She asked me to live my best life, she told me to live a good life, but I don’t think I can. I can only live the way I have been living, but I can’t even live like that anymore,”

“I am sure she is rooting for you, however you choose to live. She just wants you to be happy,”

“Happy? I am not even close to that. If she wanted me to be happy, she shouldn’t have led a pathetic life and dle here alone with her helpless son. They are the ones happy, not me. Dad got to be the chairman of the number one group in the country, and his wife and stepson are living their best lives. I’m the only mlserable person, the outcast in their family who can’t live a normal life,”

“Who says you can’t live a normal life?”

“How can I? Am I normal to you? How can I be normal and be communicating with you like this?”

“You don’t have to live like a loser, own up to your life and live the best way you can,”

“Even if I can see ghosts?”

“Even if you can see ghosts…”

“How do I live that way?”

“First, you will go for what’s yours,”

“How? I have nobody. Mr. Feng is the only one I have. So, how can I do it?”

“You have me,”

“What? You? What can you do for me? You can’t even help yourself, that’s so much talk from someone who is invisible,”

“More reasons why I can help you. I am invisible, I can gather all the inside information. And before I became a ghost, I was the CEO of Holts’ Enterprise, so I understand this field,”

“Wow. An invisible supporter, but I’ll pass,”

“Why?”

“I can’t do anything for you in return. I can’t help you get your revenge, I refuse to interfere,” he said, and her jaw dropped.

“Just accept my kind gesture as a token of my gratitude for rescuing my sister. It’s not like I can force you to help me,”

“What are you scheming?”

“First, there are rules for you to follow if we are going to work together. Since I’m the one helping you now, I have the upper-hand, so you have to respect me, as your new mistress,”

“What?” he shouted, and almost choke on his saliva.

“Don’t get me wrong. It’s not the definition running in that head of yours. Since I’m the one with the upper-hand, that’s just a right word to address a lady who is superior,” she said, and he scoffed.

“You should be more specific with your words. I can’t imagine if it’s actually what I was thinking,” he said, rolling his eyes, and she hit him playfully.

Everything was set for the anniversary of Haven Group. Charles’s stepbrother, Dylan, detailed security guards around the building to stop Charles from trespassing.

Nosy reporters were stationed around waiting for Charles to show up to start a scene.

Chairman Hewlett (Charles father) went upstage to make a speech when the door suddenly burst open and Charles stepped in.

Reporters surrounded him instantly, and everyone paid attention to him but they were all surprised to see him responsibly dressed in a suit.

“Sorry, I’m late. Let the ceremony continue,” he said, and winked at his father who didn’t stop staring at him.

“How did he get in? Security guards are everywhere,” his brother thought.
