Few minutes later, while she was already on the bed, she saw the doorknob move and she knew someone was coming in. Not wanting to be disturbed, she sniffed back tears and pretended to be asleep.
Lannon walked in and when he found her sleeping already he sighed fustratingly and took a seat on the couch few meters away from the bed. He was tired, tired of the fact he was just learning about the truth and definitely he had to let Lila know soon.
Just as he closed his eyes to rest for some minutes, his phone in his pocket rang and he grudgingly took it out and accepted the call.
“We have him sir!”the guard he’d sent with Rodger to find Dave reported.
He sighed in victory as he commanded “Bring him to the mansion”, then he ended the call.
Lila, on hearing him say his latter words snapped her head towards him immediately “What was that?!”she craned her neck in a suspicious manner.
Lannon was startled by her voice, he didn’t know she was pretending to sleep.
“Lila..”he called carefully.
“No excuses Lannon!”she cut him off yelling angrilly. “Tell me the truth. All the truth. I’ve been leaving my whole life a lie. I deserve to know everything please tell me. Please”she whimpered, her voice weak as she tears left her eyes.
He sighed as he stood up from the couch and went to her on the bed.”Can you handle it?”he asked and she nodded in tears.
“Lila, Dave……”he paused as he looked at her in fear.
“Go on”she urged.
Intense silence stretched in the atmosphere till, Lannon finally braced up.
“Dave killed my parents”he expounded.
It was a very simple statement that held so much emotions. Lila baited her lashes as tears blinded her eyes.
She shook her head in tears without saying a word.
“He sent Rodger to kill my parents because they found out that he was into child trafficking”he added.
She kept on sobbing as she remembered how he was the previous night. His sudden behaviour, the way he had walked away from her. It was because he’d also learnt of the truth.
She turned her face away from him suddenly felling guilty. Was her father such a monster? How could he?
“I’m sorry Lannon”she sniffed back her tears, hurriedly stood up from the bed and ran out of the room before he could stop her. She couldn’t face him, she wasn’t ready to face him. She was the daughter of the person that made his life miserable. She had to leave him, that would be the only way he could have peace and be happy again.
She ran all the way to the sitting room. There she met her mum and Sam. She didn’t bother to say a word, she kept running but Ivory held her back.
“Running won’t solve a thing Lila”she advised
She snapped her head towards her mum as she scoffed”You knew too. You all deceived me all my life”she yelled.
“We were protecting you”
“In what way?”she scoffed”Now let me go. My father is the cause of he’s parents death mother. Don’t you feel guilty?”
Ivory sighed and let go off her hand” one thing I’ve learnt in this life daughter is never to pay for another person’s sin. It’s mere foolishness”she said.
“What do you mean?”
“Stop being a coward and go back to Lannon. Tell him how much you love him. You didn’t kill his parents, your father did!”
“I am his daughter”retorted Lila.
“He is my husband!”Ivory said.
They stared at each other with heavy breaths leaving Sam to watch the mother and daughter’s feud.
Lila took a last blink before she turned sternly and made to leave but Sam stopped her.
“Don’t be selfish Lila. He still stayed with you even when he knew about this. Running away proves nothing!”came Sam’s advice.
Lila turned to her in tears”staying with me was out of mere pity”she blurted.
“If you leave Lila, I don’t think he will ever come looking for you”sam said.
“So be it!”came Lila’s stern reply. If this was the only thing she could do for Lannon, she would be so glad. She didn’t have to add up to his pain again.
She turned to leave but her mother’s voice stopped her again.
“Don’t you love him?”Ivory asked.
“Of course I do mother”she said in tears.
“Then tell it to him”
“Huh!”she cringed her brows in confusion as she snapped her head towards her left side and she saw Lannon, by the stairs standing and staring at her.
“Lannon, don’t come after me!”she cried dejectedly.
“Lila” Lannon exhaled deeply”Come!”he mentioned.
Like as if she had been hypnotized by his voice, she walked up to him slowly.
He held her cheek and cleaned her tears, “We are in this together Lila”he cooed.
She shook her head as fresh tears trickled down”my father killed you parents”
“That’s why we must stop him now before he goes any further in killing more people”
“How?”she looked up at him.
“Kill him!”
“Lannon!”she yelled.
“That’s is the only way Lila”he said.
“No, no, no. I’m not going to stay here and watch that happen!”she bawled
Sam”…..”
Ivory”……”
Lannon”….”
They all stared at her.
“He should go to prison!”she continued.”please Lannon”
“He will definitely find his way out Lila and by then we would all be his target. I’m not doing this for me Lila. I’m doing this for you”Lannon advised.
“But still……..”
“Lila,”he interrupted her”Do you trust me?”he asked
She nodded in tears”yes”
He didn’t say anything again instead he claimed her lips and kissed her. She whimpered in his firm hold while melting by his touch and kissing him back.
She pulled away from the kiss as she was suddenly weak, she held unto Lannon for support.
“I can’t see clearly”she stated whilst blinking repeatedly and cleaning her eyes.
Lannon knew it was due to stress and too much crying and so he swept her off the floor, carrying her in bridal style and took her back to her room.
“Please rest properly Lila!”he said as he laid her on the bed and covered her with the duvet.
She held his hand as she shivered, “when you told me you loved me last night, did you mean it?”she asked.
He nodded staring at her hand holding his”I meant every single bit of my statement”he said.
“Prove it”she sudden blurted and regretted why she said such. He had proved it enough. He had saved her countless times, helped her countless times. How could she let her agony embarrass her. She opened her mouth to apologise but he beat her to it.
“Just give me few days”he stated and then leaned closer to her ears and whispered” I’ll prove it to you Lila” and without waiting for her to say a word, he left.
She watched him leave and she cried the more, she was tired of crying but the tears flowed endlessly and so she closed her eyes so she could rest.
Few minutes later, she had slept off in hunger and woke with an empty stomach that rumbled. She quickly got down from the bed and staggered back in weakness. She headed to the kitchen to help herself with food but on entering, she met Lannon by the slab, leaning on it and sipping orange juice from a glass cup.
“Are you better now?”he asked.
She moved to the fridge beside him and picked out spaghetti so she could microwave to eat.
“Well I have holes in my heart. Holes that might never be filled up again”she sniffed.”it’s so much shock Lannon”
He slowly dropped the glass of orange juice on the slab and lifted her up unto the slab effortlessly. The cloud container of spaghetti fell to the floor as she looked at him weakly.
“Hey,”he smiled. He held her cheek and inched closer to her till their foreheads touched.”If you cry more, you will get sick. Know that your father is not someone to be pitied. Especially from you Lila. He tried to kill you”he mentioned.
“I know Lannon. I know”
“So let me handle this once”
She looked up at him”he don’t have to kill him”she reluctantly said.
He pecked her on lips as he looked at her”you have a better idea?”he asked
“No”she baited her lashes.
“Then…”he cringed his brows.
She took him unexpectedly as she suddenly claimed his lips and kissed him interrupting him from speaking.
She pulled out and he had a smirk on his face,
“You don’t want to hear what I have to say?”he asked.
She shook her head shyly.
“Then what?”
“I love you”she blurted as she averted her gaze away from him.
Lannon smirked”are you saying this now to stop me from talking?”
“No”she pouted.”I mean it”
“Say it again” he suddenly said.
She snapped her head to meet his gaze immediately and she saw his eyes lit in excitement. She was so amused, she laughed.
“You look like a child”
“I am a child”he smiled.
She held his cheek and pecked him as she stared at him affectionately”I love you Lannon Eacot.”she said, smiling genuinely.
He kissed her immediately, full of excitement, full of passion and soon they both heard her stomach rumble and they reluctantly pulled away.
She held her stomach in embarrassment and he laughed while he picked up the container of spaghetti that fell and went to microwave it.
Once the spaghetti was ready for eating, he fed her and she ate willingly. But then, she suddenly frowned.
“What’s that?”Lannon asked.
“I want to see him”she stated.
Lannon sighed and dropped the almost empty plate on the slab reluctantly.
“Please…”She begged.
“Shh”he hushed her, placing his kinky fingers on her lip and carrying her down from the slab.”follow me”he said and she obeyed immediately.
