CHAIRMAN STANFORD’S MANSION ^^^
*
Paulina tossed and turned on her bed unable to sleep, she couldn’t believe everything that happened at school. She left her room later and went to the garden to receive fresh air. She stood in the garden staring at the moon. It was an old habit that she learnt from her mother, her mother always tell her that staring at the moon when you are restless would clear your worries and help you find some relive.

“The moon is so round today.” She heard a strange voice say from behind and she flinched in fear before turning to see her father – he was more of a stranger to her even though they live under same roof, she haven’t seen him after the first day she came there.

“Good evening…. Sir.”

“Did I scare you?”

“No, good night.” She said and intend to leave.

“Is anything bothering you?” He asked, and she looked at him wondering why he was trying to start a conversation with her.

“I’m fine.”

“Your mother always comes out to stare at the moon whenever she was restless.” He muttered, and slipped from his glass of wine.

“You know my mother?” She found herself asking before she realized how gullible that sounds.

He emptied his glass of wine and chuckled. “It wasn’t a fling, Paulina, I’ve known your mother for a very long time before you came into the pictures. Charlotte and I were childhood friends.” He muttered, and she looked at him.

She looked at him confused, wondering how her mother could be his childhood friend. He looked like he was born with a sliver spoon, and her mother has always struggled all her life to make hands meet. She didn’t bother to ask any question before excusing herself.

She went to her room and laid flat on her bed thinking about her mother.

“I miss you so much, mum.” She cried.

CHAIRMAN GREENWOOD MANSION^^^
*
Sage joined his parents in the dinning, and they engaged in random talks and his mother noticed that he was absentminded.

“Sage, I just asked after your first day at your new school.” His mother said bringing him out of his thoughts.

“Oh… that?” He grunmbled.

“That wasn’t what she said.” His father teased and they all laughed.

“Sage, you don’t look good.” His mother said.

“I had a long day at school.”

“Are your peers bullying you for not making it to that superior class or whatever it’s called?” His father asked.

“Not that.”

“What sort of school is that? Father has been against that school since it was established, I’m sure he is gonna throw a tantrum if he find out that you transfer there.” His mother said.

“Sage, you haven’t tell me the real reason behind your transfer.” His father sided .

“Holland high is a good school, dad. Many of my friends are there.”

“No!” His father blurted.

“You should have make that donation, he is obviously having a hard time at school.” His mother said.

“It’s hard enough that we have to keep his transfer to that school a secret from father, but he would be aware if I donates billions of dollars to the school funding program or whatsoever it’s called. But if it’s giving you a hard time son, I’ll get it done. We shouldn’t let others walk over you.”

“I’m not the one having a hard time, dad.”

“Then it’s her.” His mother said, and Sage gave her a look.

“Who is her? Are you two hiding something from me?” His father asked, and Sage chuckled.

“I don’t know what you are talking about, mum.”

“I know you suddenly transfer for a reason son, I know you too well, and it can only be a girl. Is it Alicia?”

“Alicia? The daughter of Richard Alexander?” His father asked.

“Yes, her. They have been friends since kindergarten. You should invite her over some time, I would be on leave soon, you can invite her over then, we could go fishing together.” She said, and winked.

“That’s false, mum. Alicia and I aren’t close anymore. We stopped being close since grade school. And I didn’t transfer because of her. Mind you, not everyone loves fishing. I’m getting seasick already.”

“Come on, fishing is fun.”

“Son, you are just whining because you always loose all your catch.” His father teased.

“Your father is right. But if you didn’t transfer because of Alicia, then it’s another girl.”

“Mum, she is just a friend.”

“Yaphie! You already admit to it.” His mother giggled and he laughed softly.

“What’s going on? What girl?” His father asked.

“Just eat, honey.” His mother said, and feed her husband some food.

“You are the best.” He muttered with mouth full of food.

“She is being bullied at school and I don’t how to help her.” Sage said, playing with his food.

“She could simply report to the school disciplinary board.” His mother said.

“The system at holland high is different, honey. In my opinion, Sage shouldn’t get involved. Sage, you shouldn’t be mixed up with a complicated person like that, you can’t fight against those people at holland high. We can’t afford having enemies.” His father said.

“What nonsense! There is rules and law to abide to everywhere. Get her to report the bullies and get a lawyer.” His mother said. “You shouldn’t abandon your friends at their weakest, doing that will make you a fair weather friend.” His mother said, and he nodded.

“Who is this girl in question anyways? Don’t she have parents, and where did you meet such complicated person?” His father asked.

“She is on a special scholarship.” He muttered

“Oh.”His mother exclaimed.

“I can’t believe you are getting this on your first day. You shouldn’t cause us any worries, Sage. Otherwise, I’ll send you abroad.” His father said.

“He knows better, he is aware that he needs a good record to attend the best law school, in order to become a diligent prosecutor.” His mother said.

“Sage, have you really made up your mind to become a prosecutor?” His father asked.

“Honey, that’s what father wants, and Sage is also pleased with it.”

“He is the heir to the company, being a prosecutor… well, it’s his choice.”

“Clara can just take over the company when she is of age.” His mother said.

“I rather make her the prosecutor, and let Sage take over.”

“Nah… with such bad grades? Father doesn’t have any expectations on her.”

“So how do you expect her to run the company that way?”

Sage let out a sigh, and dropped his cutleries. “Thank you for the meal, good night.” With that he stood up.

“What? But you didn’t even eat halfway.” His mother complained.

“I’m satisfied.”

“You are always this way whenever we talk about your future. It’s fine if you don’t want to become a prosecutor, I’m sure father won’t bring too much from it. But he has always wanted three generations in the legal field.”

“Don’t worry, Clara will improve her grades and become the prosecutor, and Sage can just focus on taking over the company.”

“Good night.” Sage muttered and left before they say anything else.

“I’ll bring your food to your room.” His mother shouted after him.

“He is mad again.” His father muttered.

“What do we do now?” His mother grumbled.

“You shouldn’t have brought up that prosecutor profession or even mention law school. We both know he despise hearing it.”

“And you shouldn’t have talked about taking over the company either.”

“But you made it worst when you talked about that third generation nonsense. Just take the food to his room, and make up with him. I can’t bear his wrath.” With that he stood up.

“What? You want me to go to him alone?”

“You are alone on this one.” He teased and making a of mockery look before leaving.

HOLLAND HIGH ^^^
*
Paulina got to school, and everyone started pointing fingers at her again. She let out a sigh and started wondering when they would forget about the scandal.

“She is really unbelievable.” A girl said, and snubbed her before walking past her.

“I can’t believe she want to have it all. A supreme class, middle class, and bottom class.” Another girl said.

She tried to ignore them all and continue on her way when Sophia blocked her path glaring at her.

“What?” She muttered taken aback.

“Why did you lied to me?” Sophia asked, and she became confused.

“About what?”

“This!” Sophia blurted, and showed her the video posted on the bulletin board – the entire footage from the guest room, starting from when Jayden was there till Austin chased him out, and when she entered the room.

“How does this make me a liar?” Paulina asked confused.

“You lied about everything. Jayden was waiting for you in that room as he claimed, but Austin chased him out, you didn’t know Jayden already left before you went in, and you were surprised to see Mike there instead.” Sophia said, and Paulina let out a sigh.

“That’s a perfect makeup story. But if you believe that, can you also explain who locked the door later?” Sage asked joining them.

“Sage.” Paulina called.

“Hi, Lina.”

“Nobody said the door was locked.” Sophia muttered, looking at the video again.

“Lina said so, are you going to believe them or believe her?” Sage asked, and Sophia jaw dropped.

“I’m so sorry, Lina, I’m sorry for doubting you.” Sophia said, and embraced Paulina.

“That’s enough, let’s go Lina, you’ve to clear your name.” Sage said, and they both looked at him.

“How will I do that?” She asked.

“We will report this to the school disciplinary committee, and call Jayden to the panel, he would have to present an evidence to support all his claims. Don’t worry Lina, I’ll get you a lawyer, you won’t be alone.” Sage said, and Sophia opened her mouth in amazement.

“Sage, do we have to take it this far?” Paulina asked.

“Of course! Your reputation is on the line here. That boy is going around spreading false rumors, and everyone is buying it. You are the victim here, Lina. They might not stop here, they might be plotting something again, so we’ve to take action now before it gets worse.”

“Sage is right, Lina, you’ve to take action now and put an end to this once and for all.” Sophia said, and she nodded.

“I don’t know how to go about that.” Paulina grumbled.

“Leave it all to me, let’s go.” Sage said and grabbed her hand leading her away.
*
They got to the doorway to the principal’s office and saw Jayden coming out of the office. They intend to walk past him because they don’t know recognize him, but he stopped them.

“Sorry, can I have a word with you?” Jayden asked.

“Me?” Sage asked, pointing at himself.

“No, her.” He replied.

“And who are you?” Sage asked.

“I’m… I’m… Jayden.”

“It’s you!” Paulina and Sage chorused.

“How dare you announce that false accusations?” Sage asked, and grabbed him by his collar.

“Sage, please stop. Let’s hear him out.” Paulina said, and Sage released him.

“What does he have to say?” Sage blurted.

“What do you want to tell me?” Paulina asked.

“Can we talk elsewhere?” Jayden asked.

“No, you say whatever you have to say right here.” Save blurted.

“Yes, say whatever you have to say here.” Paulina replied.

Jayden nodded, and he bowed his head before going on his knees.

“What? What are you doing?” Paulina muttered.

“I’m really sorry, Paulina. I didn’t intend to do that to you, I’m really sorry.” He cried.

“That won’t change anything, if you are sorry then you go back there and set things right.” Sage said.

“Why did you do it? I know that Ava put you up to it, but why did you give in?” Paulina asked.

“I’ve no choice, Lia and her friends attacked me and dragged me to their car, there I met Ava, and together we all went to Lia’s party. Ava threatened to cut off my grandmother’s treatment if I refuse to do as she say so I was left with no choice. But when Austin chased me out, I left with intention to transfer school but I was unable to transfer.” He cried, and Paulina wanted to mold him but Sage held her back.

“So why did you make that announcement?” Sage asked.

“I was threaten.” He cried, and narrate everything to them.

“How could they do that?” Paulina in a sober voice, and Sage let out a sigh.

“But that didn’t change anything, man. You would have to take back everything you said, Lina also have a reputation to uphold. Saying all that was too much, so make it right.” Sage said.

“I’m sorry, but I can’t. If I take it back, my grandmother will be in danger.” He cried.

“Even still…” Sage muttered.

“Sage, that’s enough. His grandmother’s live is in danger.” Paulina said.

“So, what then? Are you going to let this go on like this? And ruin your reputation?” Sage shouted.

“I believe everyone will forget about eventually.” Paulina said.

“Lina, I don’t know the system you were used to in the past, but it’s different here. The reputation you have from high school will go a long way in your life. Even if they stop talking about it gradually, it doesn’t mean they will forget it.”

“But…”. She shuddered.

“No, buts Lina. I’m very sorry, man, but you have to worry about yourself.” Sage said.

“Sage..”.

“I think this will do.” Sage said, and they both looked at him.

“Look who we have here.” They heard Micheal said, and they saw the MASS approaching them.

“The famous anchor is here.” Austin said, and kicked Jayden sending him straight to the floor.

Paulina face flushed in fear, and Sage held her hand when he noticed.

“Mike, I really don’t know if I should trust you, but I believe you can’t act sneaky. You should know better.” Sage said, and everyone looked at him.

“Who do you think you are?” Austin blurted aiming at him but Stanley held him back.

“What’s your deal?” Micheal asked.

“Let that guy go first.” Sage said referring to Jayden.

“Why should he? We will deal with the peasant in our own way.” Austin blurted.

“I hope you won’t end up wasting my time.” Micheal said.

“Mike, don’t tell me you are giving in to this low class guy.” Austin said.

“Let’s hear his deal Austin, Jayden is all ours anyways.” Stanley said, and Austin smirked before kicking Jayden again.

“You heard that, run while I’m being nice.” Austin laughed kicking him continuously until he ran off.

Paulina hide behind Sage in fear wondering how the MASS could be that heartless and merciless.

<<<<YEARS AGO>>>>

Charlotte returned to her normal life and gradually forgot about her ex-boyfriend. He was way below her class anyways, and her father would never approve of their relationship. She believed love would conquer all that’s why she agreed to date him, but at the end it was all worthless.

She grew closer to Paul and Grace, most especially Paul who transferred to her department few days ago due to reasons that he explained but she wasn’t really interested in. Coincidentally, they were grouped together to work on an assignment, and he insisted that they meet up in her house after school to discuss to start working on it together.
.
She stood in her house garden staring at the full moon when Paul joined her.

“What’s bothering you?” He asked, and she turned to look at him.

“I thought you left.” She muttered.

“Yeah, but I forgot something so I came back. You haven’t stopped your old habit of staring at the moon when you are restless.”

“It’s indeed a habit, but it actually helps take all my worries away.” She said, and he looked up as well.

“You could just stare at it from the window, the air is chilly.” He said, and placed his jacket on her shoulder.

“That makes it effective, the cold air, and the full moon works together. When I return to my room, I’ll be grateful for the warmth and forget my worries completely.” She said, and he chuckled.

“I wish it could work for me as well.” He muttered.

“Is something bothering you?” He asked.

“Many things are.” He muttered.

“If the moon won’t help you, you can share it with me. A problem shared is half solved I heard.”

“Does it works when you share it with whoever the problem is coming from?” He asked, and she looked at him.

What do you mean? Am I the cause of your problem? Wait, is it because of the group assignment? It’s also giving me headache. I’m the end, I’ll surrender to paying someone to finish it. I throw away my pride, if that’s your problem.” She said, unable to control her laughter.

“That’s not the problem… this is.” He said, and pecked her lips leaving her startled.

“Paul.” She called in surprise.

“I like you, Charlotte. I’ve always liked you.” He said, leaving her dumbfounded by his confession.
