<<<YEARS AGO>>>
*
Paul and Charlotte continued their friendship like nothing unusual happened. After his confession the other day, she was so shocked that she couldn’t respond so he promised to give her time to think about it before he left.

They continued their friendship, and neither of them talked about it again. Charlotte has always considered Paul as a friend, so the thought of having anything other than platonic relationships was kinda weird.
*
It was Grace’s birthday, Paul invited Charlotte to surprise her with a visit. After the successful surprise, they all sat down to have dessert together.

Charlotte went to stand by the balcony later slipping from her glass of wine, enjoying the fresh air when Paul joined her, surprising her by embracing her from behind.

“Paul.” She muttered.

“I’m glad you guessed right this time. When we were younger, you always mistook Louis for every little surprise.”

“You always get angry back then, and you must’ve held that grudge until now.” She teased, and he chuckled.

“That’s because even back then, I liked you but you were more fond of Louis. I wasn’t sure about my feelings then, but I realized it when we lost contact, and I couldn’t take any chances when I met you again, I felt like I was given a second chance.”

“Paul…”

“Don’t ignore my feelings, Charlotte, I’m getting impatient.” He muttered, and she became speechless.

“You guys are here.” Grace said joining them, and they both looked at her. “Why does the air feel awkward? Did I interrupt something?” She asked, and they both shook their head.

“No.” Paul blurted.

“Not at all.” Charlotte shouted.

“Oh… I see. Charlotte, can you assist me to organize something in my room?”

“What’s it?” Paul asked.

“I called Charlotte not you, and stay out of it, it’s ladies stuff.” She said, and she left with Charlotte.

She led Charlotte to her room and they both started checking out her clothes.

“Charlotte, I’ve something to tell you.” Grace said, and Charlotte looked at her – that was the first time Grace was trying to start a serious conversation with her.

“Feel free.”

“I like Paul.” She said, and Charlotte looked at her in shock. “I’ve always liked him since we were kids, and I was kinda jealous when you came into the picture back then, but gradually we all became friends with you, so there was nothing red to be jealous about.”

“Why are you telling me this?”

“Because I think he likes someone else, and whoever she is might be in your department. He suddenly changed his major even when his parents were against it, so I’ve a feeling that she must be in your department. Do you know her? She might be any lady he is fond of.”

“What? Whyy… would I?” She shuddered.

“He could have tell you, or give you a hint. She might even be you?”

“Me?” Charlotte shouted.

“I’m just kidding.” Grace laughed, and Charlotte let out a sigh of relief. “But we could never tell, you are also a girl. But I doubt if it’s you, because he would’ve tell you by now and you have no reason to hide it from me. After all we are friends, aren’t we?” Grace said, chuckling sarcastically, and Charlotte nodded her head

“Yes, we are.”

“Can you help me watch him to find out who he likes?”

“What will you do when you find out?”

“I just want to see her to know if she is better than me, which I doubt.”

“And afterwards?”

“I’ll make sure I get her out of the way, Paul is mine and I’ll do whatever I can to have him. I endured watching him with other girls for too long.” She said, and Charlotte let out a sigh. “You will help me, right?” She asked, and Charlotte looked at her speechlessly. “Thanks babe, we are friends after all.” She said, and embraced Charlotte who remained speechless.

CHAIRMAN RUSS’S MANSION ^^^
*
Micheal was engrossed with work in his study when one of his staffs knocked on his door – whoever it was knocked severally before leaving. He hates interruptions whenever he is working, and his staffs know better than knocking twice. His phone rang later, and he let out a sigh before picking it after he checked the caller ID and saw it was Mr. Jones.

Mr. Jones called to request his presence in his father’s living room. He let out a sigh wondering what his father wanted to discuss before he wrapped up his work.

He went to freshen up and headed to his father’s living room, where his father was currently on a call.

📞*Not at all, chairman, it will all be sorted. I’m sure it was just a mere misunderstanding.*
📞*Alright, we will get to it.* With that he dropped the call.

His glared at Micheal , and his phone rang again. Micheal instantly knew that the ruckus was caused by the issue at school.

📞*That’s not an issue at all.*
📞*Goodness, we should have at least exchange greeting first, we’ve come a long way together.*
📞*It will all be sorted, and I’ll make sure to clear any forms of misunderstanding.* With that he dropped the call and threw a fist in the air.

“Honey, oh, Mike is here.” Mrs. Russ said joining them.

“Mike, what have you done?” His father shouted, and Michael began to shiver in fear.

“Honey, Mike must’ve a reasonable excuse for this carelessness.” Mrs. Russ said.

The chairman phone rang for rang, and he checked the caller ID before glaring back at Michael again.

“Is that the seventh time?” The chairman shouted.

“Mike, start to explain.” Mrs. Russ said.

“It was just a matter at school, the school disciplinary committee are going to handle it.” Mike muttered, his voice barely above a whisper, but they managed to hear and the chairman slapped him.

“The nerve of you to say that! You called the panel against the two running mayor candidate daughters, aside from that, one of them is a Stanford’s. A complain against the chairman of KSB news daughter, and chairman Brown only daughter, are you kidding me?” He shouted, and slapped Micheal again.

“And the worst part was that the root of all these is a scholarship student. What good will a lowlife like that do you? When did you start getting involved with such people? Where was the Micheal who disgusts lowlife like them? Have you forgotten the promise you made years ago?” Mrs. Russ said, and Michael started to shiver.

“I… I…”. He shuddered in fear.

“I just got informed that Mr. Narson’s only grandson recently transferred to our school.” The chairman said, and his wife eyes widened.

“Mr. Narson, the president’s legal adviser?” She asked.

“Yes, and the worst part is the school requested for donations, so he couldn’t make it to the supreme class.”

“Why would his grandson attend our school? He was highly against our school since it was established, he filed several petition against us for equality among students. Why would his grandson transfer to our school?” She shouted.

“I don’t know. His grandson recently transferred, and all these is happening. Doesn’t it seem like a trap ?”

“Honey, what are we going to do about this?”

“I’ll take care of it, and that scholarship students will be taken care of as well. He should know his place when he is given an opportunity.”

“Micheal, you should have known better as the director. Your father and I trusted you, and entrust the school to you, how could you be this careless? If you can’t even lead a school, how do you expect to handle bigger tasks in the future?” Mrs. Russ said, and Micheal bowed his head bitting his bottom lip. “That again? How many times do I warn you against showing your nervousness? You are a Russ, and others must never know when you are weak. How long will I keep repeating that?” His mother shouted, and Micheal instantly composed himself.

“I’m going to address this matter, and you Mike. You stay out of it, and turn in your resignation letter tomorrow.” The chairman said, and they both looked at him.

“Dad…”. He shuddered.

“Your father is right, you still have a lot to learn. A break to focus on your studies will help you a lot.”

“Have you both always been perfect?” He shouted, and they both looked at him.

“How dare you raise your voice?” His mother fired back.

“I worked so hard, dad. I worked as hard as I could to impress you, I worked hard to get everything I’ve now. I was just trying to honestly address an issue at school, and you both threw a tantrum because of that. And now, you want me to resign?”

“You are a business man, Mike, there are statics in businesses, you can’t afford to have enemies when you could keep them as friends!” His father shouted.

“How does that warrants my resignation? It was my mistake, so I’m going to set it right.”

“No, you stay out of it. But this is your last chance.” The chairman said, and his wife looked at him

“You have never given me any chances before, those that mean I’m not allowed to make a mistake?”

“Yes, because you can’t afford it. The most expensive thing a businessman can’t afford is mistake. You are excused.”
*
Micheal returned to his room deep in thoughts. He knew all this could happen, but he still took the risk.

“I must’ve lost it.” He grumbled, and laid flat on his bed.

“How do I look at Lina now? And that busybody who is always hovering around her.” He whined and started feeling uneasy.

HOLLAND HIGH^^^
*
Paulina got to school the following day and was surprised to see students gathered in the hallway, she let out a sigh wondering what was going on and the students started paving way for her.

👤”She is here.”

👤”She is here.”

The students grumbled, and she found her way to the front wondering why they were paving way for her. She gets to the front, and loo… Micheal and Sage were grabbing each other by the collar.

“No, Sage.” She shouted, and went to separate them.

👤”What does he think he is to fight with Mike?”
👤”He is just a middle class student.”
👤My God, isn’t he Sage Greenwood, the only grandson of the best lawyer in the world?”

Sage tried to calm down after Paulina showed up, and he looked at her in pain.

“Lina, I’m sorry. I trusted that c0ward and failed to clear your name.” Sage muttered.

“How dare you?” Austin shouted and wanted to hit Sage, but Stanley held him back.

“That’s enough, man. Let’s go.” Stanley said, and the MASS left.

Everyone dismissed, while Paulina, Sage and Sophia went to the cafeteria rooftop together.

“Sage, you shouldn’t have fought with Mike, this will do you no good no matter who are you.” Sophia scolded.

“I don’t care!” Sage blurted.

“If I were you, I would. Two years ago, Kenny Bright, the only son of the chairman of SY Group engaged in a combat with Ava, and Mike stood up for her. He was expelled from school eventually and couldn’t even transfer to any school in California, he had to leave the country to be able to continue his studies.” Sophia said, and Paulina gasped but Sage wasn’t shaken.

“I don’t care about all that. Even if they couldn’t clear your name, I’m going to help you file a petition against them, every single one of them.” Sage said, and they both looked at him.

“Of course, what do I expect from the only grandson of the best lawyer in the world?” Sophia grumbled looking at him.

“What really happened?” Paulina asked, because she was still lost.

“That Micheal is a b@stard, I shouldn’t have trust him.” Sage muttered.

“What did he do?”

“Instead of taking actions against those girls, he decide to cover it up. I was summoned by the school board to sign a pact with my admission on the line. They threatened to expel me if I bring up the broadcast issue again. They decided to cover it up, and asked Jayden to transfer.” He said, and Paulina jaw dropped. “It’s all my fault, Lina, I failed to clear your name because I trusted that b@stard. I should have known that he can’t take actions. The school is just too corrupt, they never see faults with those at the top, most especially those brats in the superior class of theirs. I should have known better because Mike is also one of them.”

Paulina held his hands in gratitude. “Sage. I’m just upset that you got involved in all of these. I’m sorry.”

“Don’t say that Lina, I’m not stopping here either. They messed with the wrong person. I refuse to sign the pact, neither will I transfer. I’m going to sue them all. I still have the recording with me and I recorded my conversation with them as well. We won’t give up without a fight, Lina.”

“No, Sage. You shouldn’t get involved deeper, this is not good for you.”

“Coming to an agreement with them will make one of them, and I don’t want that. If you are scared for your scholarship, my parents will take care of it. I’m done here.” With that he left.

“He seems determined.” Sophia said, and Paulina exhaled heavily.
*
Sage was on his way to class when Alicia approached him.

“Hi, Sage.” She waved and he threw her a glare. “Are you m@d at me? I heard you got in a fight with the MASS, and I was worried.”

“Worry about yourself. I don’t wanna be seen with the likes of you.” He said, and intend to leave but she held him back.

“It wasn’t me. It was all Ava’s idea, I was totally against it.”

“No, you weren’t. You seem so sure the day you proposed the bet that Lina was going to be with another man, but I guess the bet is invalid now. I don’t have to go on a date with you, and you don’t have to kiss a scholarship student either.” He said, and continued on his way.

“No, I’ll.” She shouted, and he looked at her. “I lost the bet, so I’ll do it, if it will make you less angry at me.”

“It’s your wish.”

“I wish I could set things right.”

“Then do that.” With that he left.

His phone started ringing, and he checked the caller’s ID surprised to see it’s his father so he picked up immediately.

📞*Dad.*
📲*Settle whatever misunderstandings you’ve at school right away.*
📞*Dad, you don’t even know what happened.*
📲*I don’t care. I already warned you against getting involved in anything, you should’ve listened to me. Your grandfather mustn’t hear about this. I had enough of his nagging.*
📞*And if I don’t?*
📲*Are you kidding me?*
📞*I’m doing nothing wrong, dad.*
📲*Since you decide to be stubborn, I’ll send you abroad.*
📞*Alright. But I still have some things to settle.*
📲*Sa..-*. With that he dropped the call before his father could complete his sentence.

Paulina was summoned by the principal, and she was startled to meet Ms. Grace there.

Ms. Grace asked the principal to excuse them for a moment, and he obliged.

“I heard what happened at school, as I said before, darling, i don’t want any cat fights between you and Ava. I want you two to get along, so sign this.” She said, and gave her the same pact that Sage talked about.

“I’m willing to let it go even if I don’t sign this.” Paulina muttered.

“I know, but you will sign it anyways.” She said, sounding intimidating, and Paulina trembled in fear before signed it.

“Can I leave now?” Paulina muttered.

“Not too fast, darling. Tell that friend of yours, the son of the world judge or whoever he is to keep a low, or you would have to pay for the consequences. Remember, you already signed this.” She threaten, and Paulina nodded.
*
Paulina let the principal’s office deep in thoughts, she wasn’t watching where she was going and almost fell but someone grabbed her.

“Are you ok?” She heard, and looked up at her savior to see it was Michael.

She freed herself from him immediately, and walked past him leaving him heartbroken as he stared at her retreating back.
*
During recess, she went to the cafeteria with Sage and started thinking of a way to convince him when she heard an announcement.

🎤*Although everything has been sorted, but I still want everyone to know the truth about what happened at the night at Lia’s party. Jayden and Paulina were the victims. Jayden was threatened and forced to that room, while Paulina was deceived to be there. The purpose of that was to record them together so Paulina would know her place but the plan fell through when Mike got involved. And Jayden was also threatened to make that false announcement as well. I… I’m Alicia.*

With that the broadcast ended, and Sage stood up immediately.

“Alicia! I’ll be right back.” Sage said, and ran out of the cafeteria heading to the broadcast station.

He never expected Alicia to take such action when he asked her to set things right, and the implication of what her announcement might cost her made him worried about her. She just turned against the school board, including her friends and now she is probably alone.

He got to the hallway and saw her, she smiled immediately she saw him and walked past him.

“Alicia.” He called, and turned to stare at her retreating back.

She went to Jayden who was leaving school.

“Hi, Jayden.” Alicia called, and Jayden started shivering in fear.

“No, Alicia, don’t.” Sage said, approaching her as he realized what she was about to do.

“Sorry for everything, Jayden.” She said, and kissed him leaving everyone in shock.

Sage looked away immediately in embarrassment and started wondering how they turned out that way. She was his first friend in kindergarten, they were so fond of each other but everything changed when they grew older, they mingle with different kinds of people and gradually stopped hanging out together.

Mrs. Russ was busy working in her office when her secretary went in.

“This is everything you requested for, ma’am.” He said, and gave her a file.

She opened the file that contained the information of everyone involved in the ruckus at Holland high.

She flipped through the documents, until she saw Paulina.

“Paulina Andrew.” She said, and her secretary looked at her.

“She is a new student on a special scholarship, sponsored by the from the Stanford’s family.” Her secretary said, and she chuckled.

“She transferred from the countryside.” She muttered.

“Yes, ma’am.”

“I want you to run a background check on her.” She said, and smirked evilly.

“I’ll get it done, ma’am.” With that he left.

“What are you up to, Micheal?” She thought looking at documents.
