People gathered around the helicopter admiring it. Paulina disengaged later, smiled at Sage who was glaring at Micheal.

“Why are you two together?” He asked, and she shook her head.

“That’s not supposed to be the question.” Paulina muttered.

“I’m sorry, I was just upset to see you two together.”

“Why are you here? How do you know I didn’t leave with others? I was unable to reach you.” Paulina said.

“I should ask what happened.”

“It’s a long story, Sage.”

“Then start explaining. I was almost out of my mind that I brought a helicopter to find you, so tell me why you are with him?” He shouted, and Micheal scoffed.

“Are you angry that she was with me, instead of worrying about what could have happened?” Micheal said.

“Stay out of it, man. No one is talking to you here.”

“Seriously?” Micheal muttered, and scoffed in anger.

“How did you know that I couldn’t return with others?” She asked.

“I waited at school to fetch you.”

“You did?”

“But you didn’t come down from the bus with others. I went to Alicia, and she told me you came down first, but I didn’t buy it. That wasn’t enough reason to fly the helicopter down here, but I became convinced when I saw Alicia’s post with her friends, so I instantly knew that something was wrong. I tried your number, but it didn’t connect, so I confirmed from the principal if any students alighted in another stop, but confirmed it was false. What really happened?” He asked, and she embraced him.

“I’m sorry, Sage, you must’ve been worried.” She muttered.

Micheal glared at them disgusted and cleared his throat later.

“Errrmm… I know you are both happy to be together… I mean, we’ve to leave this place, and it’s getting late.” He said, and Sage glared at him.

“Why are you here? At least in Paulina’s case, we know she was left behind, but they wouldn’t have left without you.” Sage blurted.

“Why are you emphasizing it that way? I might be the director, but we are both students and it’s the staffs duty to ensure no one misses the flight back, and all the staffs in charge will be penalized for their carelessness.” Micheal said.

“It’s not their fault, I was the one who couldn’t catch the bus.” Paulina said, and they both looked at her.

“You were left behind, so don’t tell me you are taking their side now!” Micheal blurted.

“Lina, someone have to he held responsibility for this, and it could only be the staffs. I agree with Mike on this.” Sage said, and Micheal scoffed.

“You don’t have to agree with me, I’ll do it anyways.”

“I know, you can tamper with those beneath you, that’s what you are good at.” Sage said, and Micheal glared at him.

“It’s getting late, we’ve to say goodbye to granny before leaving.” Paulina said hoping that helps change the topic.

“Yeah, we should.” Michael said, and went to grab Paulina’s hand, but Sage jerk his hand off.

“Let’s go, Lina.” Sage said, grabbing her hand, and dragged her away.

They thanked the granny, and all entered the helicopter while everyone waved at the as they left. Sage didn’t stop glaring at Micheal who ignored him by looking away.
*
They arrived in the city and Sage called his driver to come pick them up, before glaring at Michael.

“What? Why are you glaring at me?” Micheal grumbled.

“Aren’t you gonna find your way? Am I not kind enough to bring you with us, are you planning to follow us around?” Sage blurted, and Michael rolled his eyes.

“Us? Why are you emphasizing on ‘us’’? Are you two a couple? And where are you two going together? You don’t even live together!” He blurted.

“What do you care? I’ll take care of Lina, now find your way.” Sage said, gesturing him to leave

“I’m not planning to follow you before, but why are you acting like you are her guardian? Are you her boyfriend, or perhaps her brother? Better still father!”

“What’s your business? So far I’m closer to her than you, I’ve nothing to explain to you.” Sage blurted, and Micheal scoffed before rolling his eyes.

“Of course, everyone knows you are closer to her because you are always hovering around her like a lost puppy.” Micheal mocked, and Sage’s face twist in anger.

“What do you say? Lost what?” He shouted aiming at Micheal.

“Lost puppy.” Micheal repeated ready to fight him, but Paulina was quick to stand between them.

“That’s enough.” She said.

“Don’t you hear what that guy juts called me?” Sage shouted.

“That’s enough, Sage. Mike, this isn’t nice, you told me you don’t like it when I called your friends puppies, so why are you using it with my friend?” Paulina blurted.

“Because he won’t stick to his place, a friend shouldn’t be this clingy.” Micheal blurted.

“What really happened, Lina? What did you guys discussed?” Sage asked.

“We’ll talk about this later, Sage. Mike, take, call whoever to come pick you up.” Paulina said, and gave Micheal her phone.

“Why are you giving him your phone? Doesn’t he have his?” Sage blurted.

“Sage, please…”

Micheal called his secretary who promised to come pick him up immediately before returning Paulina’s phone to her.

“Thanks, Lina, and don’t forget our agreement.” He said, and she nodded.

“What agreement?” Sage asked, and Paulina shook her head.

“It’s nothing serious, we should leave now your driver is here.” She said, and grabbed his hand dragging him away while Micheal glared at them in disgust till they entered the car.
*
On their way, Paulina told Sage everything that happened, and he blamed himself for trusting Alicia.

“It’s not your fault, Sage.”

“No, it’s my fault. You trusted her because of me.”

“We both trusted her, and she is the bad one for breaking your trust.”

“And Mike? Why were you two together?”

“He was the one who rescued me when I was locked up.”

“You said so, I mean why was he left behind?”

“I don’t know, he didn’t tell me.”

“That sneaky guy, I should’ve come earlier, I’m sorry.”

“No, you owe me no apology. I’m not your responsibility, Sage.” She muttered, hurting his feelings.

“Do I make you feel like a priority?”

“Sage, that’s not what I mean.”

“Whatever why you mean it, it still the same. You are my friend, and I worry about you a lot. Seeing you with guys like Mike after everything he has done… and now this?”

“Sage, I don’t like to see you worry about me.”

“Why? Aren’t you my friend? If I’m distressed can’t you worry about me as well?”

“I appreciate your concern, and I’m really grateful for it.”

“But it makes you feel uncomfortable.”

“Sage…”

“You will find a cab from here. Stop the car.” He said, and the driver pulled over.

“Sage…”

“Take care.” He muttered, and looked away.

“Thanks for the ride, I’ll give you a call.” She muttered, and alighted from the car.
*
She arrived home, and she was welcomed by a resounding slap immediately she opened the door.

She held her already burning cheek, and looked up at Ms. Grace.

“You lowly peasant!” Ms. Grace shouted, and slapped her other cheek.

“What did I do?” Paulina cried, counting few steps away from her.

“How dare you ask me that?” Ms. Grace shouted, and wanted to hit her again but chairman Stanford held her hand.

“Honey, at least let’s hear her out.”

“What do you want to hear? What did she have to explain?” Ms. Grace shouted, trying to free herself from her husband’s grip.

“Paulina, go inside.” Chairman Stanford said.

“She is going no where.” Ms. Grace shouted, and the chairman let out a sigh.

“Grace, for God’s sake!” Chairman Stanford shouted.

“It’s either she leaves now, or I call father and tell him all about her.” She threatened, and went inside.

“Paulina, leave for now, I’ll find you once she calms down, use this.” He said, and gave her his card.

“But, sir…”. Paulina shuddered wondering where he wants her to go.

“Just do as I say. Someone is trying to blackmail us with you.”

“With me? How?”

“Why did you hangout with local street people when the bus was about to leave?”

“Something happened…”

“Whatever the case, someone took a picture of you with a man and sent it to Grace. The blackmailer thought you were adopted and they are trying to use it against us. You know how serious the case is now that the election is behind the corners.” He said, and Paulina looked at him confused.

“Just go, take the card and leave.” With that he told her the passcode and closed the door.

“Sir, sir, at least hear me out.” She shouted barging the door. “Where do he want me to go?” She cried.

She left the house later and boarded a taxi to the nearest bus station, she took her phone and Sage’s number was the only one saved there, but she didn’t want to call him. She think for a while, and created a TikTok account to search for Sophia. She found her account, and sent a message to Sophia. She waited for almost an hour but got no response so she intend to call Sage when Sophia message popped in.

She happily explained her situation to Sophia who asked for her location and promised to come pick her up.

She waited for more than half an hour before Sophia showed up in her car.

“Lina, what happened to you?” Sophia shouted, running into her embrace.

“Sophie, I don’t know who to call, I don’t even know anywhere around here.” She cried.

“It’s ok, Lina. Get in the car.” She said, with that they went to the car, and the driver drove off.
*
The ride to Sophia’s house takes close to an hour before the car pulled over in a mansion.

They alighted from the car, and Paulina took her time to look around, their mansion is large and beautiful, but it can’t be compared to the Stanford’s mansion.

“My parents are in, I already told them about you.” Sophia said, and Paulina nodded.

They went in together, and Sophia’s mother came to welcome them.

“Oh, dear, you must be Lina.” Sophia’s mother said approaching them.

“Good evening, ma’am.” Paulina greeted.

“Oh, dear, come here.” Sophia’s mother said, and embraced her.

“Mummy, where is daddy?” Sophia asked, and her mother patted Paulina’s back gently.

“Lina, you guys arrived.” Sophia’s father said, joining them.

“Good evening, sir.”

“Good evening, dear. Oh, you look stressed. Sophia told us what happened, you’ve nothing to worry about anymore.” He said, and Paulina nodded in gratitude, wondering what Sophia told them.

“Come with me, Lina, you should go freshen up.” Sapphia said, and pulled her from her mother.

“Oh, gently, do you want to hurt her?” Sophia’s mother said.

“Be careful, Sophie.” Her father said.

“You two shouod go freshen up, I will get the table ready for dinner.” Her mother said.

“Thank you, mummy.” Sophia said, and grabbed Paulina’s hand, dragging her away.

“Be careful with the way you are dragging her.” Her mother shouted loud enough for them to hear.
*
They got to Sophia’s room, and Paulina took her time to look around. It was a typical female bedroom that she see on tv, and magazines. The room is beautifully decorated all pink and a big BTS wallpaper on the wall. Sophia is their huge fan, and she tell Paulina about them a lot, so Paulina wasn’t surprised.

“I’ll get you a dress to change, you should go wash up.” Sophia said, and Paulina looked at her.

“Sophie, what did you tell your parents?”

“Oh, them…”

“Yeah, they were very worried, so I was wondering what you told them.”

“Well… about that… they were aware of the supreme class volunteer programe, so I simply told them what happened to you there.”

“What happened?” Paulina asked.

“I told them what you tell me.” She muttered, scratching her hair.

“Everything?” Paulina shouted with widened eyes.

“Of course not, I told them that you missed your flight because you had to use the toilet, and you don’t know how to explain the situation at home because you will be blamed for it, so you were stranded outside. The point is, you missed your flight back.” Sophia said, rushing her words, and Paulina chuckled.

“Thanks, Sophie.”

“Don’t mention.” Sophia said, and they heard a knock on the door. “Tell mummy I’ll be down in a jiffy.” Sophia shouted before whoever it was said anything.

“Yes, madam. Take your time, and don’t stress Lina out, let her at least eat something before you bleed her ears with your mouth.” They heard her mother’s voice said, and they both laughed.

“We will be down in a jiffy, mum.” Sophia shouted.
*
They joined Sophia’s parents in the dinning hall after they both freshened up, there a special dinner was served.

“Wow, mummy, why is dinner so big, are we expecting anyone?” Sophia asked taking her seat.

“What are you saying? I don’t know what Lina might like, so I prepared different dishes, but it’s nothing much, It’s just the way we normally have dinner. Right, sweetheart?” Her mother said, and her father nodded.

They gestured Paulina to take the seat next to Sophia, and they started eating in silence until Sophia’s mother gestured her father to talk.

“Errmm… Lina, Sophie said you are in the supreme class, and you went to the volunteer.” Sophia’s father asked, and Sophia looked at him, she couldn’t already tell that he wanted to interrogate Paulina to know her family worth.

“Yes, sir.”

“I hope it wasn’t stressful?” Sophia’s mother asked.

“Not really, ma’am.”

“Your parents must be very influential for you to be in the supreme class.” Sophia’s father said, and his wife nodded along.

“Not re-…”. Paulina was saying, but Sophia cut in.

“…- daddy, Paulina’s family are close acquaintances with the Stanford’s.” Sophia said, and they all looked at her.

“The Stanford’s ?” The couple shouted, and Sophia’s mother cutlery fell off her hand.

“The Stanford’s of first group, in-laws with the Packards’, the former prime minister’s family? Goodness, Sophia you never tell us your friend is from such an influential family. Welcome to our humble home, dear.” Sophia’s mother said, and Paulina managed to smile before looking at Sophia who gave her a pleasing look.

“So, what do your parents do? We know the Stanford’s, who are your parents?” Sophia’s father asked, and Paulina looked at Sophia.

“Daddy, you can’t know her parents.” Sophia said, and they all looked at her.

“Why?” Her mother asked.

“Her parents are foreign business owners, she lost her father years ago, and her mother was involved in a tragic accident few months ago which brought her to California to stay with the Stanford’s, so the Stanford’s are her legal guardian now.” Sophia said, and everyone eyes widened in bewilderment, including Paulina – she wondered how long Sophia made up that biography for her.

“Oh, dear.” Sophia’s mother said in a sober tone.

“Mummy, can we eat now? Lina doesn’t feel comfortable with this conversation.” Sophia said, and Paulina looked at her again.

“I hope you enjoy dinner, sweetie.” Sophia’s mother said passing some food to Paulina’s plate.
*
They talked about other things till they finished eating, and returned to their various room.
*
Paulina pulled Sophia by the collar when they entered the bedroom, and Sophia locked the door immediately.

“I’m so sorry, Lina, but that’s the only way my parents could accept you.” Sophia said.

“What do you mean by that?”

“My parents paid a fortune for me to attend holland high so I can associate with influential people for them to build connections. If I tell them I’m close friends with a special scholarship student, they would kick us out of the house together. I can accept you for whoever you are, but my parents won’t understand.” Sophia said rushing her words, and Paulina let out a sigh.

“I’m sorry for putting you in a tight spot.”

“Don’t be sorry, Lina. What matters is that everything is settled. Now tell me what happened?” Sophia said, and dragged her to seat on the bed.

“I already explained everything.” Paulina muttered..

“Not in details. You only said you missed the flight because Alicia locked you up in the toilet, and the Stanford’s kicked you out. How did you get back? Why did they kicked you out? That Alicia is also a dem0n, I wish I could kick her a$$. I’ll make sure she hear a handful from Sage.” Sophia said, and Paulina laid flat on the bed.
“Tell me everything in details…” Sophia shouted, bouncing on her.
