Paulina counted few steps away from Steven in shock, wondering the business he had with murders, and his ran his fingers through his hair in frustration.

“Please… I hope that is enough for you to stay away from me. I don’t want anyone to get hurt because of me again,”

“Again?” She repeated, her heart beating fast.

“Don’t ask questions. I’ll find a taxi, and ensure you get home safely while you can,”

“What about you?”

“I can take care of my business, so mind yours,”

“No you can’t. You should report them to the police, or they are murders aft out to get you, then you should report them,”

“I can’t,”

“Why?”

“Must you ask those questions?!” He snapped. “Can’t you just leave and mind your own business?”

“Steven, I don’t know the kind of friends you had till now, but I’m different from any of them. I can’t leave leave my friends in danger, seeking refuge for myself,”

“I’m not different from them,” he muttered.

“From who?” She asked, already confused.

“I’m not different from those guys,”

“The murders?”

“Yes! I’m not different from them. So is that enough for you to stay away?” He shouted, and she gasped in fear.

“You… you’re also a murder?”

He ignored her question and stopped the empty taxi passing by.

“You should leave while you can, and mind your own business henceforth. Not everyone appears the way they seem, some people are just hiding under a perfect mask. Just like you, Ive my own secrets,” with that he opened the door of the taxi for her, and she entered inside in fear.

“How can he be a murder?” She thought, and started remembering how good he was to her.

CHAIRMAN RUSS’S MANSION ^^^
^
Mifheal knew from the start that the new chef was his mother after she was detailed to his quarters. Mrs. Russ lied to him that she kllled her, and sent her to his quarters now. He didn’t want to pressure himself thinking about her motive because he had enough on his plate, but he couldn’t act along with his mother’s disguise any longer. She was never a good mother to him when he was with her, and her sudden reappearance acting like a caring mother in disguise as a chef was ridiculous to him.

“Mike…” the chef shuddered in fear.

“It’s Mr. Mike to you. Don’t drop the honorifics!” He snapped, and she bowed in tears. “What do you think you are doing? You disgust me when I was with you, and allowed the Russ take me away. So what do you think you are doing now? Since you are alive, you should be living your best life without looking at, so why are you here? Do you really want to dle?”

“I’m really, sorry, my child. I know I’ve wronged you,”

“What should your sorry change? Mum, I don’t know what you plan to do here, but it won’t work. I’m sure mum knows who you are, and that’s why she sent you here. I ding know what her motive is, and I don’t care about your intentions either. So, please leave. Hand in your resignation letter tomorrow… if you don’t, I’ll fire you myself,”

“Mike…” she cried, and he returned to his bedroom.
*
He laid flat on his bed and sent a message to Paulina but she didn’t reply so he called her, neither did she respond to his call.

“What could have happened?” He thought.

Micheal got to school late the following day and met his friends in their suites —just Austin and Stanley.

“No news from, Steve,” he said, and they both looked at him.

“It’s like he disappeared from the face of the planet, and we don’t even know anything about him,” Austin said.

“We should have tried to know him better after all these years. We are friends after all,” Micheal said, in regret.

“He is always intimidated by us, he never considers us a friend,” Austin said.

“We should have still tried,” Micheal grumbled.

“We threatened him to be our friend, he must have been frightened by us. He didn’t even try to talk all these years, I almost thought he was dumb until he became friends with Lina. Do you think he ran away?” Austin said.

“From us? I doubt. He seems to have his own problems. How come we couldn’t fish out anything about him all these years,” Micheal said.

“We never tried. Stan, why are you so quiet?”Austin asked.

“I know nothing about him either,” Stanley blurted.

“Man, are you good?” Micheal asked.

“He isn’t. He has been grumpy since he came in. I’ve enough problems of my own, so no time to sulk here. Get over what’s bothering you by sharing it,” Austin said.

“Are you still bothered about the math quiz, or whatsoever you called it,” Micheal asked.

“What math quiz? The national mathematics competition is still far ahead,” Austin said.

“You didn’t look like you had enough sleep,” Micheal said worriedly.

“Bro, why are you scared of a math quiz? When did that start? I guess genius also has their own problems,” Austin exclaimed.

“I think I should give it a try, man,” Stanley said.

“What?” Austin asked.

“The math club,” Stanley muttered, and they both scoffed.

“That again?!” Austin blurted.

“Man, just follow your heart. I’ve more than enough on my plate, and Austin also has his own problems. Like quitting basketball isn’t enough, you want to add yours to spice it all,” Micheal said, and Austin glared at him.

“Who said I’m quitting basketball?!” He snapped.

“You will… eventually,” Michael teased.

“You’re so d£adddddd today!” Austin shouted, and a tasters running around with Micheal.

Stanley brought out the card to the math club, and nodded.

“Austin, I heard you drank out with Kayden last night,” he said, and they both stopped running to look at him.

“You did? You met with Kayden?” Micheal asked.

“I was fed to relive some stress after all the studying. So we coincidentally met at a bar, and we went to a club together. Bro, you won’t believe he is a vip at an exclusive club,”

“Why didn’t he tell us about it. You should have invited us, you know?” Stanley said, and Micheal nodded in agreement.

“It was importune, and I really had fun,” he said, licking his lips in lust.

“You got a new girl?” Stanley asked in excitement.

“Or a nightstand,” Micheal added.

“I think we will really go for the beach house, guys,”

“Wooohhhh…“. They both cheered in excitement.

“Is it a serious thing?” Stanley asked.

“Do we know the girl?” Michael asked, and a message beeped into Austin’s phone.

“Is that her?” Mifheal and Stanley asked in excitement.

“I’ve to go, guys,” he muttered, and left.

“Wait! Is that the new girl?” Stanley asked.

“Do you think she is a student here?” Mifheal asked Stanley who let out a sigh.

“He will split it when he is back,” Stanley said.

“Man, we might really get that beach house,” Micheal teased before leaving.
*
The MASS went to the next class together, and didn’t see Paulina in class. Micheal sent her a message wondering why she skipped school, but she arrived before the teacher left.

“Why are you late?” He whispered, but she gave a faint smile before going seating.

She carried her bag ready to leave during recess but he dragged her back.

“Are you avoiding me?” He asked, and she shook her head. “So why are you leaving without a word?”

“Mike, can we talk?”

“Sure, come with us,”

“No, not at your suite, somewhere else,”

“Go ahead, guys,” he said, and his friends gave him a last look before leaving.
.*
Paulina lead the way to the staircase because students barely use the stairs. She couldn’t take him to the cafeteria rooftop because Sophia or Sage could show up there at anytime.

“Mike… I’m leaving school,” she muttered, and he looked at her perplexed.

“Why? Did the Stanford’s withdraw your scholarship? If that’s the case, I’ll grant you the scholarship. You don’t have to leave,”

“No, I’m leaving on my own accord. I already submitted my transfer letter to the principal,”

“It won’t get approved, so just tell me the real reason behind your decision,”

“Being here will only cause troubles for you. Ava resumed back to school, and…. Mike, that’s all,” she muttered, and intend to leave, but he dragged her back.

“Is that what Ava told you?”

“Dong you get it, Mike? You will only be miserable with me. I’m equally helpless as you, and I can’t add any value to your life. Ava is the one you need, you should be with her. You are already engaged anyways,”

“Is that what Ava made you believe? Answer me?!” He shouted, startling her.

“Yes…” she cried, and he embraced her.

“Don’t listen to her, Lina. You promised me, remember?”

“She threatened to break the engagement, and reveal your true identity if I don’t leave,” she cried.

“She said those?” He asked, and she nodded.

FLASHBACK***
*
Paulina arrived at school and was about to head inside when Ava approached her.

“Hi, Lina,”

“I see you decide to return to school. But you should go meet those who will be excited,”

“Can I have a word?”

“I’ll pass!” Paulina blurted, and intend to leave.

“Then I should just go ahead and reveal Mike’s real identity,” she said, and Paulina looked at her.

“What do you mean by that?”

“Given that look, you must be aware that he is a piece of trash, an illegitimate product of adultery like you. You both suit each other like a match from h£ll, but I’m the queen, I should always have my way,”

“What do you intend to do?”

“What I said. I’ll break my engagement to him, and expose his true identity to the school. The story would make an interesting headline, giving the rumors that recently dled down,”

“Since you are telling me this, I’m sure you want to negotiate,”

“Bingo!”

“What do you want from me?”

“I sang to get of you. I know it won’t be easy to get you out of my house, but I’ll get it done gradually. This is a transfer letter, you should leave holland high,” Ava said, handling a letter to her.

“What made you think I will listen to you?”

“Because you want to protect Mike as he protected you. I don’t care about whatsoever relationship is between you two. But Mike is mine now, he is my new toy and you will only get in the way. You’ve till recess break to make your decision,” with that she dropped the letter and left.

FLASHBACK ENDS***
*
Micheal exhaled heavily after Paulina explained the situation to him.

“Is that all?”

“Mike… I really have to leave. I can’t let her go public with that,”

“She will even if you leave. Don’t allow yourself be blackmailed by her, she would have gone public with that if she was going to,”

“She really meant it, Mike. I’m so scared. What’s going to happen to you if it actually happens?”

“Nothing. I might just have to drop my position in the company, and never dream of being the chairman again. But that doesn’t matter because she won’t do it. She knows better,” he assured, and she embraced him in tears.

MS. GRACE CAMPAIGN SITE^^^
^
Ms. Grace went to her office to relax after an exhausting campaign, and a message beeped into her phone.

She reed the contempt, and the fall fell off her hand in fear.

“What happened, ma’am?” Her secretary asked but she gestured her to stay back.

“Get my driver,” she muttered, and the secretary did that immediately.
*
She left the campaign site and called her father to confirm his current location before heading to where he was.

She got to the golf club, and he excused himself to talk to her.

“I left my game, so it must worth it,” he said, and she grabbed his hands.

“Dad, what do I do?” She muttered in fear.

“I won’t know unless you tell me what the problem is?”

“Dad… it’s Leo,”

“Who is Leo?”

“Leo… dad, Leo who you sent to prison before I married Paul,”

“What’s up with him?”

“He has been threatening me, dad. He has been threatening me to reveal everything. And now, he sent my story to a journalist, he sent me their chat anonymously. What do I do, dad?”

“What are you getting at? I sent him to jail because he should be there, that’s what happened. So, let him take whatever he got to a journalist, and I dare them to release the story. I recently got rid of a reporter, so a journalist is nothing. Or should I get rid of him first?”

“Yes, dad, you should do that,”

“Grace, is there something you aren’t telling me?”

“Dad…”

“You shouldn’t be this scared over that, so what else did he have against you?”

“Dad…” She shuddered

“You’ve to be honest with me if you want me to get things sorted,”

“Dad… I’m sorry,”

“About what?” He yelled, and she flinched in fear.

“Dad…. It’s Ava…” she muttered, and broke down in tears.

“What does my granddaughter have to do with this?” He asked, and she shook her head in tears. “Don’t tell me…” he muttered, his eyes widened in disbelief.

“I’m sorry, dad… I’m so sorry,”

“Why are you just telling me this now?”

“I’m sorry, dad… I was so scared,”

“It’s not too late to take care of it,” he muttered, with clenched fist.
