Mr. Rex, Lord shark’s right hand man, entered a room and slap the man who stood there with head bowed.
The man didn’t lift his head, and Mr. Rex continue hitting him until he was satisfied.
“Just a simple assignment, you failed!” He lashed, and hit him again.
“I’ll accept any punishment, boss,”
“You will accept any punishment, boss!”
“What punishment should I give an incompetent person like you? Just a girl! Just a girl! You failed! And what was your excuse? Some high school boys? High school boys knocked down four men! Is that your excuse?” Mr. Rex yelled, and hit him again.
“Boss, one of them is very skilled, and he looked like…”
“Shut your mouth!” He shouted, and hit him again.
“Boss, he was little boss!” The man shouted, and Mr. Rex looked at him.
“Little boss…”
“Yes, it was him, I’m so sure of it,”
“Let me see the girl picture again,” Mr. Rex said, and the man gave him a picture of Paulina. “Oh… she must be one. His girlfriend. This is getting interesting,”
“Boss, lord shark has arrived,” one of Mr. Rex men announced.
“Keep this between us,” mr. Rex muttered, and the man nodded.

Mr. Rex went to lord shark, and lord shark chuckled glaring at Mr. Rex.
“Brother, I…” Mr. Rex shuddered, and lord shark took his gun. “My lord…” Mr. Rex shouted, and fell to his knee.
“Just a girl. I already prepared everything for you, you just have to dish it, but you failed. You can’t even dish out a prepared meal!” He shouted, aiming the gun at Mr. Rex head.
“My lord…” he cried out.
“You failed. And you fueled that impudent politician to talk down to me!” He snapped, triggering the bullet.
“Please give me another chance,”
“I gave you the assignment, but you gave it to someone else…” he muttered, aiming the gun at Mr. Rex’s leg.
“My lord… my lord… I…” Mr. Rex shuddered.
“Losing your leg won’t even worth that much, but it would please my heart,” he muttered, and intend to trigger the gun.
“Little BOSS!” Mr. Rex shouted.
“Little boss?”
“Little boss showed up. They lost the girl because of little joss,”
“How sure are you that it was really Steven? Only few of our men know him,”
“Yes, but Cain knew him as well. He was part of the men who pursued him on the run,”
“Steven showed up, and you lost them both!” He shouted, and Mr. Rex gasped.
“My lord… he showed up with the police, yes, the police. Little boss is no match for Cain, but they had to run because of the police. Yes, it was all because of the police,”
“You would have kllled two birds with a stone. But you lose them both! He yelled, and fired the gun up.
“My lord… we had no choice. We can’t let little boss find out that we were taking orders from that politician. We didn’t even know that he would appear in the scene,”
“Let me see the girl picture again,” he said, and Mr. Red hands trembled as he gave him the picture.
“She…”
“She is his girlfriend, she was the girl who appeared at the scene tge last time. I can’t be mistaken, it was her!”
“You knew that, and you didn’t tell me about it earlier!” He shouted, and aimed the hun at Mr. Rex again.
“Boss, what do we do? If little boss is involved with her…”
“Quite!” He snapped, and Mr. Rex covered his mouth.
“My lord…” one of lord shark’s men called, running to him.
“Split it!”
“The police found a trace of us at the site. They found a pendant,” the man said, and Mr. Rex tick his teeth in panic.
“They did?” He muttered.
“They are investigating the matter now, and it was reported that they are scanning the faces, for the girl to identify,”
“What about the witnesses?”
“They are four highschool boys. Boss, they are popularly known as MASS. They are all sons of influential multibillionaires,”
“I know. Did any of them claim to see our men faces? What was their testimony?”
“Nothing significant,”
“Steven, what are you up to?” He thought.
“My lord… should I ask Cain and his men to lay low for now?” Mr. Rex asked, and lord shark glared at him, then he bowed immediately.
“Ask your men to lay low for now, I’ll take care of the police,” he muttered, and his phone rang. “Speaking of which…”

📞*I understand.* with that he dropped the call, and glared at Mr. Rex.
“I want you to pour out the pendants. And you better do it right this time!”
“Yes, my lord,” he bowed, and hurried away.
His phone rang later, he checked the caller ID to see its ‘CHIEF’, and started panicking

CHAIRMAN STANFORD’S MANSION^^^

Paulina was discharged later, and she went home with the Stanford’s.
They opened the main door, and met Ava by the exit.
“Ava, you must’ve been worried as well,” Paul said, and Paulina looked at her in disbelief.
“You were kidnapped for real? For what reason? No one knows that you are dad’s illegitimate daughter, so who could have kidnapped a peasant?” Ava blurted.
“Ava, watch your language!” Paul snapped.
“You’re mistaken Ava, the driver must’ve set this up. Everyone here knows her identity. That’s why we have to be careful,” Grace said.
“Is this realm about me being a Stanford?” Paulina thought.
“I’ll help you to your room, you need to rest,” Paul said, escorting her to her room.
“Mum, did they catch the culprits?”
“What can I do with you, Ava? You should always watch your language whenever your father is around!” Grace lashed, and walked out.
“She should have disappeared for good,” Ava grumbled, heading to her room.

Paulina laid flat on her bed after Paul left her room, she turned on her phone and saw a lot of messages from Michael, Austin, and Stanley, but none from Steven. She remembered what Steven said about those men being his father’s men.
“Did I almost got hurt because he Steven?” She thought. “This is so scary,” she exclaimed, and turned
She replied to their messages, and slide into Steven’s DM.
💬*hi* she texted, and put her phone away. She wanted him to clarify what he said, he didn’t leave any helpful statements to the police, and it was quite bothersome.

Austin returned home with his parents, and they insisted on having dinner together.
“Where is Steven?” Mr. Wilson asked.
“He probably left with the others,” Austin muttered.
“I can’t believe you boys single-handedly saved your friends from kidnappers. Do you know how ludicrous that sounds? You were amazing because you succeeded, but what if something went wrong?” Mrs. Wilson stated.
“That’s enough, honey. I believe they did the right thing. I mean, they wanted to save their friend, and they also called the police. Look at our son, he has no scratch. For the first time, son, I approve your friends,” Mr. Wilson said, and his wife scoffed.
“I also agree that they were awesome, they were so brave and it’s applaudable, but what if something had gone wrong? Our son would have been in danger,”
“It’s a good thing it went well. Look at him. I didn’t raise a c0ward, he is a strongman,”
“Mum, dad, I’ll leave first,” Austin muttered, already exhausted.
“What? But you barely touch your meal. You need to gather your energy, I’m sure you used a lot of energy to fight those thugs. Here, eat some more,” Mr. Wilson said, and Austin exhaled heavily.
“Austin, how is the Stanford’s related to the victim?” Mrs. Wilson asked, and they both looked at her.
“I don’t understand,” Austin muttered.
“I saw the chairman entering her ward. The victim isn’t thier daughter, so why was he there?”
“Oh… that… Lina has a close relationship with the Stanford’s, I believe they are her like her guardians,”
“How about her parents?” She asked.
“Honey, why are you curious about that?”
“Mum, I know nothing about her,”
“So how are you friends with her?” Mr. Wilson asked.
“She is Mike’s friend, so we are kinda close too,”
“I mean… the chairman came all the way from the city, and his wife followed,”

“Yeah, I saw that proud peacock that is relying on her father to become the mayor entering the building,”

“Dad, I’m satisfied,” Austin said, and stood up before they could protest.
“Alright, son. Reach out to Steven to ensure that he is fine. He must’ve also been stressed out,” Mrs. Wilson said, and he nodded before leaving.
“I didn’t know our son has such vigor,” Mr. Wilson said.
“He is good at many things expect studying,” Mrs. Wilson muttered, and Mr. Wilson laughed.

Austin went to his room, and remembered what his mother said about the Stanford’s.
“I thought she was leaching off them? But… worrying about her that much was a little… well, people also worry about a stray dog, so what am I thinking?” He thought, and laid took his phone.
He sent a message to Steven, before sliding into their group chat.
💬*bro, did the Stanford’s really paid Lina a visit at the hospital?* he texted, before replying to other messages.

Micheal saw Austin’s message, and he couldn’t even reply it until Stanley did, and they engaged on random conversations.
He put his phone away and went to his study, but he couldn’t bring himself to work, he found himself thinking about Paulina relationship with the Stanford’s. He remembered how the driver addressed her when he went to pick her up, and how she also addressed the chairman, so he tried to accumulate them together.
He took a note, and started scribbling letters on it.

He put the note away and shook his head.
“Could Paulina be named after him?” He thought. “No, that doesn’t make sense. Paulina doesn’t even bear his name,” he muttered. “Come to think of it. Paulina never mentioned her father to me, not even once. And, she moved in with the Stanford’s after her mother passed away,” he thought. “But it doesn’t make sense!” He lashed. “Come to think of it… this is similar to my biography,” he exclaimed. “But why did Lina hid it from me?” He pounder, he lips paused in thought.

MR. HEARST’S (Steven’s father) MASION^^^

Mr. Hearst sat in the large gazebo close to the pool, and lord shark wobbled on his feet as he walked closer to him.
Me. Hearst smirked upon seeing him, and raised his fingers, counting down. On noticing that, lord shark panic and started to run toward Mr. Hearst, because he know the trouble that lies if he didn’t get to him full he count all five fingers.
He got to Mr. Hearst the moment he dropped the last finger, and Mr. Hearst smirked, gesturing the men to with to excuse them.
Mr. Hearst left his seat, and lord shark closed his eyes ready for the worst. A blow on his face sent him straight into the pool.
Mr. Hearst smirked and walked closer to the pool lord shark swam closer to him, and he deep his head in the water, holding him that way till as satisfied.
They both returned to the gazebo, and lord hard kneeled in front of in fear, trying to catch his breath.
“The Stanford’s? Who are they? I told you not to get involved with impudent conglomerates. Was it the Packard’s, the politicians? Or the Stanford’s?” He muttered, glaring at lord shark. “Who are they?!” He yelled, and lord shark started to hiccup. “I put you on the throne, I made you my shadow, so you were supposed to follow my rules. You should report to me first, what did to do? Theo? Did you get ahead of yourself because everyone calls you boss? Do you really want to be the boss?”
“I don’t dare…”
“I know, you don’t. So I need your explanation,” he muttered, and raised his fingers to count down.
“Little boss!” Lord shark shouted, and Mr. Hearst stopped counting to look at him.
“What?”
“It’s little boss. We were trying to get him with the girl,”
“Was that the girl? His girlfriend?”
“Yes, boss. And he truly showed up to rescue her,”
“Yet, you lost him again,”
“The police arrived. He came the police!”
“You didn’t think of that possibility?”
“I’m willing to take full responsibility, boss!”
“With your life?”
“Boss…”
“Why vow to take responsibility when you aren’t even willing to sacrifice your life?”
“I’ll wholeheartedly sacrifice myself after I watch little boss success you,”
“Do you really want that?”
“Boss…”
“When I locked Steven in the basement, I heard someone aid his escape. Bring that person to me, and I’ll decide your punishment then,”
“I’ll find yhem boss, no matter how many they are!”
“And Steven… leave him be, for now. Avoid getting involved with those conglomerate. I’ll handle Steven myself,”
“Yes, boss,”
“Did he had any scratch? Did your men have him a scratch before the police arrived?!” He heeled.
“No, boss, no. No body dares,”
“Better! Crawl away,” be muttered, and raised him fingers to count down.
Lord shark gasped in fear, and begin to crawl as fast as he can.
Mr. Hearst smirked and shot his gun to the air. Lord shark got the signal, and stood to his feet and ran off immediately.
A man joined Mr. Hearst later after lord shark left.
“Lee, Kelvin is hiding his involvement with that politician. He thought he could have his cake and eat it all. Find out what Steven have been up to lately, and report to me. Scan his environment, and ensure he isn’t being watched. I’ll take care of him personally, after I uncover Kelvin’s intentions,”

Chairman Stanford arrived at his company, and the driver pulled over at the parking lot when a motorcycle ride in, parking in front of his car.
“What? Did they just give access to random people to park here?” His secretary shouted.
“Chairman! I’ve a message from Miss Charlotte,” Don, who was the motorcyclist said, showing his a note.
“You can go in first,” Paul said, and his secretary gave Don a second look before leaving.

Paul and Don went to the cafeteria, and Don handed a note over to Paul, and Paul collected it immediately.
🗒️*I bang be next to her, but I want you to keep Don close to her. He is the only one I can trust to protect my daughter.* it read.
“Did Charlotte really ask you to give this to me?”
“You can meet up with her to confirm. You know were she lives,”
“You are uncle Don?”
“Uncle Don?”
“Charlotte talks about you at times when we were younger, she was fond of you,”
“Oh… I see…”
“Can you take me to Charlotte?”
“How are you going to explain what happened to miss Paulina to her?”
“Charlotte didn’t know about that?”
“She would have return to get her daughter if she knows. She simply sent me to protect her daughter, because she doesn’t trust you, nor your wife. If you can’t agree to it, I’ll take miss Paulina to her mother. That would be safer,”
“No, you can’t!”
“Are you still going to miss Charlotte to confirm?”
“I can’t go to Charlotte until the police catch the culprit, and you can’t fell Paulina anything either,”

Paul returned home with Don, and summoned Paulina to the living room.
“Good day, miss Paulina,”
“Dad, who is he?”
“Your bodyguard,”
“Bodyguard? Do I need a bodyguard?”
“Yes, after what happened, you need a bodyguard to protect you. The police is yet to catch the culprit, and we don’t even know thier motive yet. Don will protect you,”
“Dad…” she called, and embraced him.
“I’ve to return to the office, so take care do yourself. Don, you know what to do,”
“Yes, sir,”
Paul patted Paulina’s back before leaving, answering she looked at Don.
“Errrmmmm… uncle Don…” she shuddered, and he looked at her in shock. “I hope it doesn’t sound awkward… I have never had a personal staff before, and I don’t feel comfortable calling you by your name. Or, do Mr. Don, sounds better? Yes, Mr. Don,”
“No! Let’s go by uncle Don. I kinda prefer that. It reminds me of someone that I adored so much,”
“Really? Your cousin?” She asked, and covered her mouth. “I’m sorry. I don’t understand why I’m feeling too comfortable,”
“We aren’t related, she was like a cute little sister to me. And it’s fine, let’s feel comfortable together. She was also very comfortable with me, but I messed up. Being with you, could appeal my conscience,” he said, and she smiled.
Seeing her smile, reminded him of Charlotte. She might be scared of the others, but she was always comfortable around him. The thought of everything made him feel guilty for what he did to the Floods, and vowed to himself to protect Paulina with his live, to make up for part of his mistakes.
