THE PARTY^^^
^
The MAS arrived at Paulina’s party, and were ushered to the party venue. The whole hall was reserved for the party, and it makes many of them wonder who does that for an adopted child. Paulina only invited few people to the party; Micheal, Austin, Steven, Sage, Sophia, Jessica, and few other members of the math club. Lia and Alicia persuaded her for an invitation when they heard of the party, but she didn’t give them.
“Mike, did you heard the rumor going around school? Everyone assumed that Lina could be the chairman’s biological daughter,” Austin said.
“And that made me his stepson,” Micheal muttered, and they both looked at him. “What? I thought we are being unrealistic,”
“Get lost,” Austin muttered.
They entered the hall, and exchanged greetings with the few people there before Paulina joined them.
They all sang the birthday song to her, and she blew her candles before the party begin.
“Happy birthday, girly,” Sophia said, and embraced her.
“Happy birthday, Lina,” Sage said, and she embraced him.
“Hun, hun. Lina, happy birthday,” Micheal said from behind, and she embraced him.
“We would have filled this place with people, what kind of party is this scanty?” Austin complained.
“My kind,” Paulina said, and they all laughed.
“Gosh, we are very few. I have never been in such party before,” Austin said.
“Someone else is coming to enlighten the party,” Paulina said.
“Who?” Austin asked.
“TADA!” They heard someone shout from behind, and they all spun around to see Stanley, followed by Lia and Alicia.
“Stanley!” The MAS shouted, and ran to embrace him.
“Are they always that cheerful?” Sage muttered, and Paulina smiled.
“They must have really missed him,” Paulina said.
She looked at the way Sophia was clinging to Sage and started wondering when they became that close. During the months that passed, Sophia was able to get over her feelings for Sage and thier friendship continued but there were still boundaries between them.
“Have you have Sage gotten closer behind me? What are you two discussing that you couldn’t carry me along?” Paulina grumbled.
“This close?” Sophia asked, and wrapped her hand around Sage’s waist, “or this close?” She asked and pecked his lips.
Paulina gasped, and dragged Sophia immediately.
“When? How? What?” She said confused on the first question to ask.
“Relax, girl,”
“I thought you were going on blind dates, Sage fixed it for you,”
“Yes, he did. And I went,”
“So how did this happened?”
“I went on all the 10 blind dates that he arranged, but they are not just my type. I don’t know, I feel like being an elite isn’t everything to me now. He promised to arrange another one for me but I refused, after much persuasion, I later gave in and went yesterday, and boom. It was Sage,”
“What?”
“I felt like I was hallucinating. Sage was the blind date, and he gave me a couples ring,” she said, flaunting her ring.
“Oh, my. This is so pretty,”
“I know, right? He told me to stop attending blind dates, and be his girl…. Oh my God, Lina. I feel like screaming!”
“Sophie, I am so happy!” Paulina said, and embraced her.
“But where is Sage?” Sophia muttered looking around.
“Over there, with Alicia,”
“Why is that bltch at your party?”
“I don’t know. I didn’t even invite her. I think she came in with Stanley,” Paulina said, but Sophia already went to drag Sage from her.
**
The MASS sat together later after all the cheerful moments.
“You didng tell us you were coming. I mean… all the way from Spain… are you that close to Lina?” Austin asked.
“You didng come all the way here because of the party, I’m sure of that. So, why are you back?” Micheal asked.
“Are you back for good?” Steven asked.
“So many questions, and I don’t even know which one to answer first. You are fight, I’m not in California because of the party, and I might actually be back for good,”
“Really?” They all shouted.
“Did your parents made up?” Austin asked.
“Not that,”
“So, what happened?” Austin asked.
“It’s quite a talk. Don’t let’s bore ourselves,”
“Say it away, I’m curious,” Austij said.
“Yeah, split it, man,” Micheal said, and he started his long story.

FLASHBACK***
*
Stanley was working at his great grandfather’s farm when he was summoned back home, and was surprised to see his mother in company of the head secretary at his father’s company.
“Good afternoon, Mr. Stanley,”
“What do you want?”
“Don’t be rude,” his mother cautioned.
He went to take his seat next to his mother, and the secretary started his story of how sick his father was.
“What? Liver transplant?” His mother gasped, and Stanley scoffed.
“Don’t tell me you are here to ask me to donate my liver to him. I have to run a test first to do that, so if you are here to convince on that, please leave! My mother and I are going nowhere, we have nothing to do with that man,” with that, he stood ip to leave.
“The chairman doesn’t wish for that either,” the secretary said, and Stanley looked at him.
“The chairman wants you to be healthy while he goes abroad for his surgery, because someone has to look after the company if the surgery goes wrong. This will be the fourth time he gets the transplant, so he is terrified this time,”
“Fourth time?” Stanley’s mother gasped.
“What are you getting at” Stanley blurted.
“The chairman’s wish is for you to take over everything. He wants to transfer all his shares to you, so please sign this,” the secretary said, and dropped a document on the table.
Stanley’s mother gasped, and looked at Stanley who wasn’t moved.
“I have no interest in it. Even when I was with him, I had no interest in his company. I can’t be stuck up in an office all day, wearing suit. Take that with you and leave, I’ll take care of my future!”
“Stanley…” his mother called.
“That is the chairman only wish. He refused to go for his surgery if you don’t accept this,”
“I don’t care. I’m off “
“Stan, wait!”
“Mum, please don’t try to convince me,”
“Stanley, he is still your father, and that is your birthright,”
“He disowned me, mum. No, I denounced him first,”
“Think about me, son,”
“Mum, we are doing just fine,”
“No, I’m not doing fine. This isn’t the life I want for you. I want to you accept it, it’s not a request,”
“Mum… why are you doing this to me?”
“Will you decline?”
“I just have to sign it, right?”
“Yes, sir. But we will have to return to California as soon as possible. There is a general shareholder meeting next week Monday, and the chairman want to introduce you to the board,”
“What?”
“He will go, he will do it,”
“Mum…”
“Sign it, son,”
“You are not being fair!” He blurted, before singing it.

FLASHBACK ENDS***
*
His friends gasped after he concluded his story, and Austin embraced him.
“I’m so happy, bro. You are finally back,” Austin said.
“Stop being clingy,” he muttered.
“Have you seen your father?” Micheal asked.
“Yeah. I came here right after,”
“Why were those bltches with you Lia and Alicia,” Austin asked.
“We met by the gate. The security didn’t let them through. They had no invitation,”
“How did you get the invitation? We only told you about the party, we didn’t send you an invite,” Austin said.
“You contacted Lina first?” Micheal asked.
“Yeah. I told her to keep it a secret. I wanted to surprise you,”
“It a surprise indeed, but we have many more surprises,” Micheal said.
“First, let’s enjoy the party,” Steven said.
“Why is Jessica here? I thought it’s just Paulina’s friends,” Stanley said.
“She is Paulina’s friend now,” Austin said.
“Really?”
“Are you uncomfortable?” Micheal asked.
“How did they become friends?”
“Paulina left our club after the mid semester exam results were released. That girl is such an ingrate, she said she needs to be around more intelligent people to improve her grades, so she left our club and accepted Jessica’s offer to join the math club. They became close from there, you can see few people from the math club around,” Austin said.
“Oh… I see,” he muttered staring at her, but she didn’t even spare him a glance.
“Get over it, man. You ended it, remember?” Austin said, and Stanley chuckled.
“I’m over it. It’s not my first relationship. Speaking of first; Steve, why won’t you date anyone? Austin said Dianna has been hitting on you. Give it a shot, man. You have to have fun while you can, otherwise you will start dating Austin’s ex,” Stanley said.
“Hey!” Austin shouted.
“Do you have a girl you like?” Micheal asked, and they all looked at him.
“Yes, that could only be the reason,” Austin said, and Steven chuckled before looking around. “ Is she here? Lia or Alicia, perhaps Jessica? He added, and Stanley shot him a glare.
“Where is Paulina?” Steven asked.
“Is she the one you like?” Austin gasped, and Micheal looked at I’m.
“There she is. If you wiki excuse me, I have something to discuss with her,” with that, Steven left.
“I think he likes Paulina,” Austin said.
“Get your tact together, man. Otherwise you will lose your teeth!” Micheal lashed.
*
Steven went to Paulina, she welcomed him with a smile and gave him his pendant.
“I don’t think I’m worthy enough to keep this,”
“Come on, Steven. It’s yours. Even if you think you aren’t worthy of it, you shouldn’t throw it out,”
“That’s why I asked you to keep it,”
“I can’t keep it any longer. It has to be with it owner,”
“I can’t live the way my mum wants me to. I already chose my path, so how can I keep that?”
“Your mother didn’t give you this because she wants you to live the way she wants, she gave you this so she can watch over you. She wants to be close to you even though she is absent, so consider this little pendant as your mother,”
“Just like your bracelet?”
“Yes, like my bracelet,” she said all smiles, and he embraced her.
“Thank you, Lina. Thank you being my friend,” he said, and she patted his back gently.
“You are so such an adorable cutie,” she said, and he laughed.
“What are they talking about?” Micheal grumbled, staring at them.
“Steven can’t go for Lina, right?” Austij said.
“You talk too much. You are starting to klll the party’s vibe,” Stanley said.
*
The real party begins later, and they engaged on various fun events before some people retreat to do their own thing, some went to the poolside, and some dance to the music.
**
**
Ava refused to attend the party immediately her father brought the idea, and they didn’t bother to convince her with thoughts that she was feeling inferior because of her face.
She couldn’t help but think about the party all day, the thought of how Paulina wili slowly have everything while hiding at an illegitimate daughter was so overwhelming, and she decide to see what the party was like for herself.
She arrived at the venue, but the securities didn’t let her through because she has no invitation until Don showed her.
“Let her in, she is the chairman Stanford’s daughter,” Don said.
“Consider yourself fired!” Ava blurted, and went in.
“I’m sorry, madam,” the security guard shouted.
She walked around the party admiring everything, and cursing Paulina for stealing what was hers. She wandered around but no one noticed her presence until Paulina joined her at the balcony.
*
Don who has been keeping a close watch on Ava since she arrived at the party watched the little cat fight between Ava and Paulina, and he interfered when Ava was trying to push Paulina off. He was quick to separate them, and pushed Ava off instead.
“Noooooooo….” Paulina screamed.
“Miss Paulina, did you get hurt?” Don asked.
“Ava, Ava ,” she pointed at Ava who already fall off, and Don jumped over the balcony to meet her.
“Paulina,” people from the party called running to her.
“What happened?” Micheal and Sage asked rushing to her but Sophia dragged Sage back.
“Ava…” she shuddered in tears, and Micheal embraced her.
“Oh, my God! It’s Ava!” Lia shouted, pointing down the balcony.

THE HOSPITAL^^^
^
Paul rushed to the hospital immediately the heard what happened, and a doctor came to brief him about the surgery she was undergoing.
He went to the operating unit, and dismissed the kids to go home, remaining just him and Paulina.
“Paulina, what happened?” He asked, and Paulina looked at him in tears.
“Ava tried to push me off from the balcony,”
“What?”
“You might not believe it because you thought you raised such an angel,”
“Paulina…”
“Dad, Ava tried to klll me! I would have been the one in the OR if uncle Don didn’t interfere, I would have been the one fighting for my life!”
“Did you two have a fight again?”
“This isn’t just any fight, dad, Ava tried to klll me for real, she said she’d get rid of me and be your only daughter, she said she doesn’t want to share anything with me! I hate her…” she cried, and Paul embraced her.
“It’s ok, Paulina,” he said, patting her back but she freed herself from him.
“It’s not ok, dad. Ava will never accept me, and I refuse to accept her as well. I hope her surgery goes well, I hope she recover and answer to this, because I can’t live with her anymore!” Paulina said, and stood up
“What are you getting at?”
“You have to choose, dad. I can’t live wigi someone who tried to klll me, no, I refuse to live with her. I don’t want to share anymore, dad. I don’t want to share anything with a ba$tard. Since she is the daughter you raised for years, and you can’t abandon her, then you will have to abandon me! You have to choose dad, it’s either me, or Ava!” She blurted, before leaving.
“Paulina…” Paul shuddered, staring at her retreating back till she was out of sight.
Paulina was heading out of the hospital in tears when she sight a familiar face walking towards her. She wiped her tears to be able to see properly, and the person turned out to be her mother.
“Ghosts indeed wander around at hospital,” she thought in tears. “I wish it was really you, mum, I wish I wasn’t seeing a ghost,” she cried. “But why is the ghost coming closer?” she thought.
“Paulina…” Charlotte called
“She just called my name…” she shuddered.
“My baby,” Charlotte cried, running towards her.
“Why is she in tears? She is coming closer,” Paulina thought. “Is she really my mum?” she muttered, and wiped her tears. “Mum?” she called.
“My baby, my Paulina. Mummy is sorry for being so late,” Charlotte said, and embraced her.
“It wasn’t a ghost, it’s really mum,” Paulina muttered in tears, tightening the hug. “Mum,” she cried.
