CHAPTER TWO
♠️ PERFECT PAIR…♠️
“ Your majesty, the knights are here”
“ Let them in” King Richard said as he sat down on his throne.
Sayer entered first followed by the knights.
“ Your majesty, King Richard, Sayer greeted as they all bowed their heads.
“ Thank you for honoring my request, please have a seat” King Richard replied.
They all took their seats and maidens came in to serve them fruits and drinks. King Richard dismissed the servants, only leaving the knights, Sayer and his general.
“ As you have been told, the demon king has awoken and declared war on Avalon. He has started to launch attacks on Aprilla. I need the knights of Avalon to handle this before it becomes a problem that would ravage the whole of Avalon… we have to prevent a repeat of what happened twenty years ago”, King Richard said with a serious face.
“ Don’t worry your majesty, we will do our best” Sayer said in a reassuring voice.
Sayer, I believe you got my message, King Richard said.
Sayer turned to face the knights, “ You four, go settle in, I have something to discuss with the king in private” he said and they all nodded before excusing themselves.
“ So he is the strongest out of them all?“ King Richard asked gesturing towards Malone who sat down with a poker face.
“ Yes my king, his spirit animal is the strongest and he is undoubtedly a strong warrior” Sayer replied.
“ I have a special task for you, the task of protecting the princess of Aprilla, my daughter Olivia” King Richard said to Malone.
“ Sorry to say this your majesty, but I did not go through years of gruesome training just to be your little girl’s bodyguard,” Malone said and stood up, his left eye changing color.
“ Malone!“ Sayer yelled getting to his feet.
“ Give me one good reason why I should be reduced to a bodyguard for a pampered princess” Malone said firmly.
Sayer quickly brought out a dagger and slashed Malone on his arm and then slashed himself on his palm.
“ I have made a promise with my life, you are going to protect the princess with your life because my life depends on it” Sayer said.
Immediately, the cut transformed into a mark that looked like a tattoo.
“ Sayer!“ Malone growled angrily and walked away.
“ Should he really be in charge of protecting my daughter?“ King Richard said in worry and anxiety.
“ Don’t worry your majesty, he will definitely do it plus, the rest of the knights are also here to protect her but this will create a temporary bond between them so that if the princess is in danger, he will be aware” Sayer said.
“ It’s for the best”
MEANWHILE…
Olivia fixed a flower hairpin in her blonde hair admiring herself in the mirror.
Suddenly, a tattoo appeared on her hand.
“ Another bond?“ She muttered and looked at her other hand where another mark similar to the first was.
“ Doesn’t matter right now, I need to find the knights” she muttered, smiling from ear to ear.
She walked out of her chambers and rushed towards the main palace to meet the knights.
“ Princess, wait!“ Hermia exclaimed jumping in front of Olivia.
“ Why are you getting in my way Hermia?“ Olivia said.
“ Because, his majesty has said that he would introduce you to them tomorrow at your birthday banquet so you should exercise patience my lady” Hermia said.
“ But… I… fine, I’ll wait” Olivia said as she turned around pouting as she dragged her feet back to her chambers.
“ By the way Hermia, did Vance come too?“
“ No my princess,” Hermia replied.
“ He must be busy with prince stuff,…I miss him”…Princess Olivia muttered softly caressing the tattoo on her left arm.

Later that night PRINCESS OLIVIA’S CHAMBERS
A cold breeze swept in and a dark shadow hovered over Olivia as she slept.
“ Mmm..no..mhh..“ she groaned as she tossed around on the bed. The tattoos on both her arms began glowing faintly.
Suddenly the dark shadow disappeared and immediately, Malone entered the princess’s chambers through the window.
The tattoo on his hand was also glowing faintly. It soon stopped glowing.
“ My sleep was disturbed just because she was having a nightmare, * scoff *” he said in a voice that reflected his annoyance.
He walked up to her and brought out his sword, placing it near her neck.
“ If I end her now, I won’t have to be following her around like a pet” Malone thought and brought down the sword to slash her throat but then he stopped midway
“ No, I can’t kill her, else Sayer would die.“ He sighed heavily as he placed his sword back in it’s shroud.
He gave Olivia one last look before jumping out of the window.
*** Emerald palace VALERIAN ( one of the three kingdoms of Avalon)***
A young man lay in bed in slumber when he suddenly jolted up from sleep.
He looked at his left arm and a tattoo was seen glowing faintly.
He seemed really disturbed by it and he quickly stood up and put on his robes before walking towards the throne room.
As he approached the room, he heard people murmuring and he waited to hear their conversation.
“ King Matthew, you are aware of the situation. Aprilla has started facing the purge of the demon king. Send Vance far away on business because you know that he would go over to Aprilla in a heartbeat to protect that princess. Please, I don’t want my son’s life to be in danger again because of that girl” a woman’s voice resonated within the room.
“ Aprilla is in problems?“ Vance muttered as he walked in.
King Matthew and his first queen, Rebecca, Vance’s mother stood up with shock on their faces.
“ My son, the knights have already been sent to aid them…please stay out of it. You know what happened to you the last time you tried to protect that princess”, King Matthew said in a bid to reason with Vance but…
“ I have to go to Aprilla. Besides I am a knight as well, I will go and fulfill my duties and I would appreciate it if you don’t get in my way. Excuse me” Vance said and turned around to leave.
“ Please no my son, I can’t afford to loose you” Rebecca said as she walked after Vance.
“ Stop mother, it’s not like I’m going to ascend the throne anyways so please” Vance muttered.
“What if your brother doesn’t recover huh, you know that the other queens are looking for an opportunity to get their own sons on the throne, please… you are my only hope” Rebecca begged.
“ Have faith in your son, brother Elias will recover. Just take care of him because I have no desire to ascend the throne, excuse me mother” Vance said and walked away.
Rebecca broke down in tears as she watched her son’s receding figure.
“ Prepare for my journey to Aprilla, we leave tomorrow at dawn” Vance commanded his servants.
“ I’m coming Olivia” he muttered caressing the tattoo on his arm.
