Lily gasped, breath caught in her throat as she felt strong arms steady her before she could hit the floor. Her notebook slipped from her grasp, scattering papers across the glossy lab tiles.

Her eyes fluttered open — and met his.

Jeremy.

He was closer than ever before, his face mere inches from hers, brows furrowed in concern. One arm wrapped firmly around her waist, the other steadying her elbow.

“You okay?” he asked, his voice slightly breathless, his usual calm cracked by the urgency of the moment.

Lily could barely think. Her heart was pounding, and she was sure he could hear it. She nodded slowly, dazed. “Y-Yeah… I—thanks.”

He helped her upright gently, lingering for a second longer than necessary before letting go. Neither of them moved right away. It was like the air itself had thickened, holding them in place.

“I forgot my note,” Jeremy said, eyes flicking to the bench. “Saw you about to fall and—”

“You caught me,” she whispered, blinking rapidly.

A faint smile curved his lips. “Guess I did.”

He bent to help gather her scattered notes, and Lily dropped to her knees too, their hands brushing again. This time, neither pulled away.

They both froze.

Jeremy looked up, meeting her gaze once more. His voice was softer now. “You should be careful, y’know.”

“I was,” she said, then gave a sheepish laugh. “I just got… distracted.”

“By what?”

She hesitated, then looked straight at him.

“By someone.”

Jeremy stilled. His eyes searched hers for a moment longer, as if weighing the unspoken words that hovered between them. Then — slowly — he handed her the last paper and stood up.

Lily rose too, holding her breath.

Jeremy glanced at the door, then back at her.

“See you Monday,” he said again — but this time, his voice held a different tone. Something deeper. Something curious.

And with that, he turned and walked out — his forgotten pen still sitting on the bench.

Lily stood there and after a while she left.

On a Sunday afternoon the gentle hum of a ceiling fan filled the air as sunlight filtered through pale curtains. Sylvia sat by her small desk, sorting through her chemistry practical folder

Lily sat cross-legged on the fluffy rug, her hands animated as she recounted the events of Friday to sylvia cheeks flushed with excitement.

“I swear Sylvia, I almost died,” Lily said dramatically, placing a hand on her chest.

“Okay, not like died died, but—ugh, it was so embarrassing!”

“…And then boom — I slipped.”

Sylvia looked up, brows raised. “Wait, you slipped?”

Lily rolled over onto her back and nodded, wide-eyed. “Like full-on, arms-flailing, almost-hit-the-floor slipped.”

Sylvia smirked. “You? The queen of balance and never-mess-up? Wow.”

Lily waved a hand dismissively. “Focus! That’s not the point. The point is… he caught me.”

Sylvia blinked. “He who?”

Lily’s lips curled into a smile she couldn’t hide. “Jeremy.”

Sylvia sat back in her chair, clearly intrigued now. “Hold on. Caught you how?”

“I was the last one in the lab,” Lily started, propping herself up on her elbows. “Jeremy had forgotten his pen or whatever and came back. I didn’t see him. I was just standing there, daydreaming, when I suddenly slipped.”

Sylvia’s eyes narrowed playfully. “Daydreaming about… him?”

Lily grabbed a pillow and chucked it at her. “Shut up!”

Sylvia caught the pillow and laughed. “Okay, okay — go on.”

“He called my name, but I didn’t hear him,” Lily continued, voice softer now. “And right when I was about to hit the floor… he caught me. Like his arm around my waist, other hand steadying me as he caught me.”

Sylvia blinked. “Wait, are you telling me Jeremy Brooding-Eyes Lab-Genius ran to catch you?”

Lily nodded slowly, dreamy smile growing. “Like in the dramas we mock,It was ridiculous and magical.”

Sylvia tilted her head, amused. “And after that?”

“He looked at me like he was trying not to let it show. But it was there. The worry. The moment.”

Sylvia gave a sly grin. “Hmm. So… does Mr Circuit Board have a soft spot after all?”

Lily groaned, flopping back again. “Don’t make fun of me.”

“I’m not,” Sylvia said, her voice gentler now. “I’m just… surprised, jeremy’s not exactly the type.”

Lily pulled a pillow to her chest and sighed. “Maybe I’m not his type either. Maybe I’m imagining things.”

Sylvia stood and sat beside her on the bed. “Lily… you didn’t imagine him catching you. Or the way he looked at you.”

Lily looked up at her, uncertain. “You think?”

“I know.” Sylvia smiled. “And if he didn’t care, he would’ve let you fall.”

They both burst into laughter.

Lily shook her head. “You’re impossible.”

“And you,” Sylvia said, tossing a pillow at her, “are falling. Hard.”

Lily caught it and hugged it tight, whispering, “I know.”

♠ GREENWICH VILLA♠

The rooftop of the Brocks’ estate was calm and shaded, the city stretched endlessly beyond them. Golden sunlight bathed the marble floor as a soft breeze rustled the sheer curtains behind the open glass doors.

Five guys the untouchables of Brocks high-school were seen lounged around a low table stacked with snacks and soda cans.

Davis was half-focused on a chess game with Kingsley, while Damien scrolled through his phone, sitting on the edge of a deck chair. Jeremy, quiet as always, leaned back with arms crossed. Kenzie, barefoot, sprawled on the outdoor rug eating chin-chin from a ziplock bag.

“Okay, so…” Kenzie said suddenly, eyes darting around the group. “Are we just not gonna talk about the Sylvia situation?”

Jeremy raised a brow but said nothing.

Damien smirked. “Finally. Someone says it.”

Kingsley didn’t look up from the board. “What Sylvia situation?”

Davis let out a soft laugh. “Oh please. Don’t play dumb, Brocks. The entire school is watching. You and the scholarship girl, in the same chemistry class, getting partnered… people see things.”

Kenzie stuffed more chin-chin into his mouth. “And don’t forget the café scene last Friday we saw you there after you decline that’s u won’t be going out with us and she was sitting with you like she didn’t know your name could freeze air.”

Kingsley moved his bishop without responding.

“You like her?” Damien asked bluntly.

Kingsley paused. “She’s focused. Not like the others.”

Davis whistled. “That’s basically a love confession in Kingsley response.”

Jeremy finally spoke, voice dry. “Except he’s not the only one watching her.”

Everyone glanced at him, but Jeremy didn’t elaborate.

Kenzie leaned forward, excited. “No but for real, what about Samara? Your ex, remember her?”

Kingsley’s jaw clenched, just slightly.

Davis snorted. “You mean the girl who’s been circling him like she’s waiting for her old seat back?”

“She’s not suitable,” Damien added. “She practically threw herself to at another guy

Jeremy’s gaze flicked toward Kingsley. “You’re not going back, right?”

“No,” Kingsley said flatly.

Kenzie grinned. “So what’s the deal then? Sylvia? She’s not like Samara. No designer bags, no constant drama… she’s like a whole different universe.”

“Exactly,” Kingsley murmured.

His tone silenced the group for a moment.

Jeremy tilted his head. “Then you better be careful. People like Sylvia… they don’t play games. But people like Samara? They hate losing.”

“And Sylvia,” Davis added, “doesn’t even know she’s in a game.”

Kingsley stood slowly, cracking his knuckles. “Maybe she does.”

Damien gave him a long look. “What are you planning?”

Kingsley gave a small smirk. “Nothing yet.”

Kenzie stretched with a groan. “This school year is turning into a soap opera. I need popcorn.”

Davis raised a brow. “You need therapy.”

Jeremy stood next, brushing lint off his hoodie. “Whatever you do, Kingsley, just don’t hurt her.”

Kingsley didn’t respond.

But deep down, he knew…

He couldn’t hurt her and he can also hurt her

●Brocks high-school●

The morning buzz was already alive — lockers clanging open, students rushing through corridors, shoes squeaking on polished floors. Bulletin boards were plastered with club flyers, and whispers of weekend drama echoed against the walls.

Lily and Sylvia walked side by side, books in hand, dodging groups of gossiping students.

“I swear,” Lily said, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear, “if Jeremy says ‘pass the resistor’ without looking at me again, I might combust.”

Sylvia smiled. “You’re already combusting.”

Just as Lily was about to respond, the hallway crowd shiftedand Kingsley Brocks stepped into view.

Instant quiet.

He walked like he didn’t notice the way people parted for him, dark blazer sharp against his crisp shirt, backpack slung effortlessly over one shoulder.

Sylvia’s steps faltered for a heartbeat.

He saw her.

Their eyes met.

His gaze lingered.

No smirk. No cold expression. Just… unreadable intensity.

Sylvia looked away first.

Lily leaned in and whispered, “Was it just me or was that—”

“Not just you,” Sylvia murmured, heart pacing faster than it should.

Behind them, Samara leaned against a locker, arms crossed, watching the whole thing.

Her lips curled not quite a smile but more like a dangerous one

Chemistry Lab

The bell rang sharp and early, signaling the beginning of first period. Students trudged into the chemistry lab, some still yawning, others flipping through their notes for one last-minute glance.

Mr. Grant stood at the front, arms crossed, his sharp gaze sweeping the room.

“Settle down. Today is submission day for your chemistry practical pairing assignment. No delays, no excuses.”

Sylvia sat at the second row, straight-backed, her folder already neatly packed. Her partner, Kingsley, was beside her, leaning back in his seat, expression unreadable as always. Their project sat on the desk between them — stapled, labelled, and completed.

Sylvia glanced at him. “Did you check the conclusion again?”

Kingsley gave a light nod. “It was fine the first time. You just like double-checking.”

She said nothing, only adjusted the top page slightly, aligning the corners with silent precision.

A few seats back, Samara twirled her pen lazily. “Jayden,” she called, nudging him with her elbow, “pass ours forward.”

Jayden handed over their file just as Mr. Grant began collecting the projects row by row.

“Kingsley. Sylvia,” Mr. Grant called.

Sylvia passed the file forward promptly. “All done, sir.”

Kingsley didn’t say a word.

Mr. Grant flipped through the first few pages and gave a brief nod. “As expected.”

Other students followed — Jeremy and Lily handed in theirs with quiet pride; Davis mumbled something about not labeling his diagrams; Tiffany waved hers dramatically in the air before turning it in.

As the files stacked up on Mr. Grant’s desk, he glanced at the class.

“I hope you all worked equally. Don’t forget — individual scores will be assessed during oral questioning next week and its will be use as your test score.”

A quiet groan rippled through the classes.

Kingsley leaned slightly toward Sylvia, just enough for her to hear. “Ready to be interrogated?”

Sylvia didn’t look at him. “I always am.”

For a split second, the corner of Kingsley’s mouth tugged up. But it vanished as quickly as it came.

Class continued, but beneath the clatter of glassware and rustle of lab coats, something unspoken lingered in the air — a quiet tension between old chemistry and something far more complicated.

After an hour the bell rang sharply, signaling the start of the next period.

Inside the biology lab, the class settled down as Mr. Hartley, the biology teacher, adjusted his projector. Diagrams of plant cells glowed on the screen behind him.

Sylvia slipped into her seat near the middle row while Kingsley walked in a moment later, cool as ever, and took the seat beside her — their official lab partner arrangement.

Their arms brushed slightly.

Neither said anything.

Sylvia focused on her notebook while Kingsley leaned back in his chair.

“Today, we’re starting on plant tissue observation,” Mr. Hartley announced. “Each pair will get a prepared slide and a worksheet. Submit your findings by Thursday.”

Pairs began receiving trays. Samara and Jayden got theirs. Jayden jotted down notes diligently while Samara scrolled through her phone under the desk.

Jeremy and Lily also started working on their slide

Kingsley and Sylvia worked mostly in silence. Only short, clipped exchanges:

“Pass me the slide.”

“Here.”

“Do you see the xylem clearly?”

“Yeah. Mark it.”

But every silence between them felt thick — not awkward, just… filled with things unsaid.

After the class it’s was lunch break and everyone left for the cafeteria

The cafeteria was alive with noise — trays clattering, gossip flying, laughter echoing from every corner.

Sylvia carried her lunch tray and scanned the room. Lily waved her over. She gladly joined her at the center table, grateful for a moment of normalcy.

Behind her, Samara sat with Tiffany and Lisa, her expression sharp.

“She’s getting too comfortable,” Samara muttered.

Lisa raised a brow. “Who?”

Samara tilted her head toward Amara. “Miss Fresh Face. You know she submitted her report with Kingsley like she owns him?”

Tiffany shrugged, stabbing a carrot with her fork. “Maybe he volunteered.”

Samara narrowed her eyes. “Kingsley doesn’t volunteer. Especially not for girls like her.”

Meanwhile, across the room, Jeremy,Damien, kenzie and Davis joined Kingsley at a smaller, quieter table in the corner.

Kingsley unwrapped the bottle of water slowly, staring ahead blankly.

Davis nudged him. “You good?”

He didn’t answer right away.

“I’m fine.”

But his mind wasn’t in the cafeteria. It was back in the biology lab. The way Sylvia ’s brow furrowed when she focused. How she always had an answer. How she didn’t flinch under pressure and didn’t cower like others did around him.

She intrigued him. More than he wanted to admit.

“kingsley,” Jeremy said, cutting into his thoughts. “You and Sylvia … you cool?”

He shot him a look.

Jeremy smirked. “Just asking. You’ve looked spaced out since the lab.”

Kingsley capped his bottle and muttered “We’re just partners.”

Davis raised a brow. “Right.”

I can sense that bro is unloved and how I wish I’m in science class to see the chemistry between the him and Sylvia, kenzie muttered.

I’m out of here guys and note I’m not in love with any füç?ing body,Kingsley muttered and stood up.

As he was about leaving the cafeteria a popular young student model entered the cafeteria

And she draw everyone’s attention and people started murmuring

Wow is that’s not knloe
She looks more beautiful
Omg she is putting on the latest designer wears

Sylvia who didn’t recognize the girl that entered whispered to lily

Who is that’s girl,she asked

That’s Khloe the youngest model in the modelling world and she is seventeen, lily answered.

Oh it’s time I need to inform Kingsley about something, Sylvia informed lily and stood up trying to catch a sight of Kingsley in the cafeteria.

And as she sight him she started walking towards his direction

Khloe was also looking for the king squad and she caught a glimpse of Kingsley standing and started rushing to his direction.

And to everyone surprised Khloe ran and hugged Kingsley and Kingsley withrew himself from the hug.

Then his phone vibrated and saw a message then he looked up and saw Sylvia waiting few meters away looking in his direction.

What are you doing here,he asked khloe.

I just got back and you are the first person I want to see and I missed you so much,Khloe answered.

I’m busy so take your leave,he muttered

Is that how you are going to welcome me, Khloe yelled.

Sylvia who notice the atmosphere was getting tense and so she thought that she should go meet teh the teacher alone and maybe Kingsley will join her later.

So turned to leave and Kingsley noticed then he faced Khloe.

Its doesn’t concern me if you are back or not khloe,he yelled and shouted “Sylvia wait for me”

And everyone was struck dumbfounded

Then Khloe remained speechless……………..
