Chapter 77 – A Blessing And A Curse
“You were saying when I first saw you. You were in a critical condition, your parents were declared dead and everyone said you would have the same fate.” He began and she realized he was talking about the first time he saw her.
“I saw you as you were being pulled in. Honesty, I had the same thought, you looked so broken, gone. I thought you wouldn’t make it.” He explained softly into her ear.
“When did you figure all this out?” She asked. Was this the reason why Taeyong told me to ask him this?
“Just now. I was trying to figure out why that jerk would ask how I first met you, but now I understand.” He answered.
SoMi finally opened her eyes to confirm that this wasn’t a dream, she pulled back so she could see his eyes. For the first time she saw something she never expected. She saw sincerity in his eyes. “And what’s that?”
“…That you keep coming back. Even after everything, you keep coming back. I think you died that night and I left, only to find out 10 years later that you were alive. No matter how many times I f*ck up, you keep coming back to me.” He confessed and they both also know this words were true. They both also knew that it could also be a blessing and a curse.
He was the man who kept messing up, over and over again, and she was the girl who kept coming back even after she’s been hurt, over and over again.
That’s why they finally understood Taeyong’s words. This was his lesson for them. This was the same mistake they kept making over and over again. So this time, one of them had to stop. Either someone had to stop messing up or someone had to stop coming back.
….
“He’s gone.” Jaehyun exclaimed through the interview. He searched every corner of the room, papers were thrown everywhere, broken shards from vases splattered on the ground. Books fell random throughout the room. In general, the room looked like mess.
“He must know we’re after him, but why is he running. I thought the old man would look us dead in the eye and declare war.” Doyoung commented and he knew everyone else was thinking the same.
Outside the building, Yuta and Taeil looked through the jungle of a mess of clues, trying to track the chairman.
“Keep looking, he must have something planned for us. His plan with SoMi failed and he knows he only pissed us off.” Taeyong hissed angrily wanting to skin the man Inches for what he did to his granddaughter. SoMi was the chairman’s own flesh and blood.
He was standing outside the building, making sure no one was tracking them while Jaehyun and Doyoung searched one of Chairman Jeon’s office. Yuta and Taeil were in an unmarked van parked down the street.
“Oh, going to skin him.” Taeyong snarled.
“Found something!” Jaehyun shouted and caught everyone’s attention.
“What?” The other heard Doyoung say through the intercom followed by the rusting of papers. “He tried burning these.” Doyoung asked, Jaehyun shook his head as he tried to decipher that the partially burnt papers were.
“Burnt what?” Taeil asked, annoyed because Jaehyun and Doyoung weren’t telling them that what was going on.
“I don’t get why he would though.” Jaehyun commented and Doyoung sighed deeply.
Take rolled his eyes and snapped at the two. “What?? Burnt what?!” He hissed.
“Don’t tie yours, in a bunch Taeyong, it’s jus some docvments that the chairman tried to burn. It doesn’t look like.” Doyoung paused before he finished leaving Taeyong even more annoyed.
“What the hell!” Jaehyun mumbled in disbelief, “This isn’t possible.”
“What’s not possible? Good God, don’t make me come up there myself.” Taeyong scolded.
“We have to get back to SoMi right away.”
…..
SoMi couldn’t remember the last time she slept so well. It felt years since she slept in peace and the new feeling was refreshing.
The last thing she remembered before falling asleep was Johnny’s face as he tucked her in. Yes, she did question the drastic personality change, but she also liked this one better. He wasn’t trying to kill her, he wasn’t giving her the cold shoulder, he was actually trying to work things out. That was all she wanted.
