Chapter Eight
“Fannie! Can you come over here. I need your help” on hearing Dora call. Fannie walked into the fitting room to help Dora with her wedding gown.
“It’s so beautiful Dora”Fannie enthused happily as she and the employee of the bridal boutique stood starring at Dora.
“Really? Do you think John will like it?” Dora asked as she stared at herself in the mirror.
“Of course. You look good in everything you put on and knowing how John is head over heels for you. He will love you in this”Fannie replied.
“I really hope so. I still can’t believe that I will be getting married to John in a few days time”Dora said excitedly and Fannie could only be glad for her.
She has worked with Dora for a long time to know the girl had been secretly inlove with John and when John finally reciprocated her feelings. Fannie was glad for her.
“Now that the dress has been decided. We have to leave for the catering company”Fannie said looking at her watch.
“Your right! I still have to decide on the cake decoration. Help me out of this”Dora said to the employee who helped her get out of the dress.
Fannie and Dora got into Dora car as they drove through the streets of England.
“You know it’s been a while since have seen you smile like that. Is it because of Chris?” Dora asked Fannie.
“What do you mean? It’s not because of Chris. Am just happy for you. I know how long you’ve been waiting for this day” Fannie corrected.
“Really? Don’t you also dream of having this day with Chris?” Dora asked again and Fannie went all silent.
She had almost had this sort of thing once and that was six years ago.
If it hadn’t been for that day, would she have married Alfred? What would her life have been like with him? She wonder how he is? It’s been years since she has heard or last seen him.
After leaving him Six years ago. She had travelled to England. Knowing that if she settled here. It will be hard for him to trace her and it worked.
She managed to find a job as a secretary. Working and helping Christopher Van. A well known doctor in England and the older brother of John Van who is the one getting married to Dora.
It was through Christopher that she met Dora. Dora had also been John secretary at the hospital he founded along side Christopher.
The four of them have been close for years and though Dora and John have finally confess their feelings to each other. She knew that her working relationship with Chris will always be the same.
Though she is very grateful to him and consider him a friend more than her boss. She will never see him in the romantic sort of way. Ever since she found out the truth years ago. She has vowed not to get involve with any guy and that has been working so far.
Though she has been sensing something different about Chris and his behaviour towards her. She hope that it’s not what she is thinking.
“Don’t you?”Dora asked jolting Fannie back to reality.
“Chris is just my boss and also my friend”Fannie replied.
“And dont you want it to be something more than that?”Dora asked.
“I don’t have time to think about that. My focus now is on your wedding “Fannie replied distracting Dora from Chris talk.
Dora stopped the car due to traffic jam and while she answered John call. Fannie stared out of the window. Thinking about everything when she noticed a car parked beside them.
The window slid down and a little girl brought out her head starring around until her gaze landed on Fannie.
She smiled at Fannie and Fannie returned the smile.
“Stop that honey! It’s too dangerous for you”A male voice who could be her father said to the child who moved back into the car.
Fannie would have gotten a glance at the father of the cute kid if Dora hadn’t began to drive.
The visit to the catering company made her forget about the kid completely.

Alfred walked into the Van’s Estate along with Sarah who was busy licking a lollipop.
“Does uncle John live here?” Sarah asked
“Yes. Do you like it?” Alfred asked and she nodded .
They got to the mansion only to see John waiting for them along with his older brother Chris.
“Uncle John!”Sarah yelled as she ran towards John who gave her a tight hug.
“Glad you could make it”John said as he gave Alfred a hug.
“I wouldn’t miss your wedding for anything in the world”Alfred replied.
“You’ve never once met my brother. Well today is the day for that. Chris meet Alfred Clinton and Alfred meet my brother Christopher Van”John did the introduction and after the two exchanged greetings. Sarah Burst in with her questions.
“Where is the bride to be?” Sarah asked
“She is on her way sweetie”John replied happily.
“I also want to meet the girl who finally tamed this friend of mine” Alfred chipped in.
“She is a real cutie. An extraordinary woman. He should be glad to have her in his life” Chris added.
“That’s unfair”John said suddenly.
“What’s unfair?”Alfred and Chris asked in unison.
“I should be the only one complimenting my future bride to be”He said and they all burst out laughing.
“You should also be getting yourself prepared. The wedding gift I want from you is for you to succeed in your quest”John said to Chris.
“Common that’s too soon”Chris said.
“You two have been together for a long time. You should woo her” John said
“That’s too soon. I need to take things slow with her”Chris said again.
“My brother here is hesitating on wooing the girl he likes” John said to Alfred.
“Well I think you should do it fast before it becomes too late for you”Alfred advised Chris who nodded in reply.
A car stopped some couple of distance away and Alfred watched as John and Chris face changed into one of sheer joy.
“She’s here”John said.
“They are here”Chris added as they all stared at the two ladies who got out of the car.
One was someone Alfred didn’t recognise at all but the other is someone he knew. Someone he has been searching for a very long time.
