Chapter Twenty Four (Final episode)
Richard felt someone stirring beside him. He opened his eyes to find Hillary cuddled close to him. Judging by the damp clothe in her hand. She must have been trying to get his fever down when she dozed off.
He sat up and kissed her lips before getting out of bed. She has been taking care of him for the past three months. Cooking for her himself will be a surprise. He thought as he got out of bed heading down to the kitchen to prepare breakfast.
He got downstairs only to get dizzy. He tried to steady himself but failed as he fell on the floor losing consciousness.
Hillary ran towards his unconscious body. Calling out to him but there was no answer. She brought out her phone calling the emergency number.
It took a while but the ambulance arrived. Together she went with them to the hospital.
While the doctor took charge. Taking him into the Emergency room. Hillary stood in the waiting room. Praying silently.
“Hillary!” Stella. Richard grandmother yelled as she ran towards her.
“What happened to him? “She asked looking worried.
“I …he had a fever yesterday and I…I was taking care of him until…..I don’t know….I found him on the floor unconscious………nothing will happen right?”Hillary asked as the tears fell from her eyes.
“Nothing will happen. Richard is strong and will keep on being strong” Stella assured as she held Hillary shaking hands.
“Are you the family of the patient who was just brought in?” The doctor asked and quickly they both answered.
“What’s wrong with my Grandson?”Stella asked.
“It’s going to be complicated”The doctor said
“Why do you say that? What do you mean by that? Is he……is he dead?”Hillary asked as she clutched the doctor clothes waiting for an answer which she knew would be a bad one.
“The patient is suffering from Cirrhosis( liver problem) not cancer “The doctor began softly and Hillary let go of his clothe.
“What do you mean? Richard is not suffering from cancer? “Hillary asked stunned by the revelation.
“We did a thorough check up on him and I can definitely tell you that your husband isn’t suffering from cancer”The doctor confirmed and Hillary who had been so worried sat down, Taking a deep breath.
“If he doesn’t have cancer, why do you say it’s complicated”Stella asked.
“That’s because his liver have been damaged. He needs a donor as soon as possible”the doctor said
“I can be a donor”Stella and Hillary said at the same time
“You can’t be a donor because you are pregnant but she can. If you will follow me”The doctor said to Richard’s grand mother.
“Don’t worry. Richard will survive” Stella said
“I know and you should also take care of yourself”Hillary said and she gave her a nod before walking off with the doctor.
After the necessary check up was made. Hillary was asked to sign a form for the consent of the operation.
During the operating period, her mother and sisters came to be with her. It took hours before the operation was finished.
The doctor walked into the waiting room having a gloomy look on his face.
“Is everything all right doctor?”Hillary asked as they all stood waiting for the doctor verdict.
“While operating. Something unexpected occur “The doctor said
“And is this something unexpected good or bad news?” Her mother asked.
“Am sorry to say but it’s bad News”The doctor replied.
“Tell us what the bad news is”Hillary said as they all waited for the doctor response
A YEAR LATER
Hillary stopped the Car in front of her mother’s house.
Dressed in black, she carried a bag and quickly went into the house.
She could hear little Milly cries, she thought as she walked in to see her mother trying to calm her daughter down.
“Your mom is here now”Brenda said as she gave Milly to Hillary.
“My precious one. Am sorry for being late”Hillary said to child in her arms who smiled as soon as she saw the food in her mother hand.
“I know you have been busy with things for the death anniversary but you should also make time for your child”Brenda said to her daughter.
“I know right! That’s why I rushed here after I finished preparing everything”Hillary replied as she stared at her daughter who was now drinking the milk from her feeder.
“What time will you be visiting the funeral home?”Her mother asked.
“As soon as am done here”Hillary replied.
“I would have loved to come with you. After all the person is…….”
“We don’t have to think about the sad part of things mom. Let’s think about the good things. At least have been thinking that way “Hillary said having a sad expression on her face.
“Your right dear, and Milly is already sleeping. Give her to me,so you can head to the funeral home already” Her mother said as she took the sleeping Milly.
“I brought Milly necessary things. I might not come back home tonight. Help me watch over her”Hillary said as she began to leave.
“I sure will”Brenda replied as she waved her off.

“No one came?”Hillary asked the funeral home attendant who assured her that no one had come to grave.
“But how could they? They know how important today is”Hillary said as she knelt over the grave touching it.
“Maybe they are busy with other stuff”The attendant replied.
“They must be”Hillary returned as she put the bouque on the grave and silently said a prayer before leaving the funeral home.
She got to the beach looking for the person had been hoping to see for a while now.
There was no sign of him in the house and so she went to beach only to find him standing there gazing at the sea.
“Richard!”She called and he turned to stare at her. Sending a bright smile her way.
“Why didn’t you come?”She asked as she kissed him on the lips before settling in his arms.
“To rid myself of guilt”he replied.
“Guilt?”She asked as she stared at him.
“She died because of me, Hillary. If only she hadn’t been the donor. If only she hadnt went through the surgery. She would still be alive”Richard said
Hillary embraced him as her mind drifted off to a year ago. The day when Stella had offered to be Richard donor.
The bad news then had been about Stella death. The liver transplant had been successful but Stella had died.
Richard had been sad when he knew the truth. Things hadn’t been great between them but he certainly love his grandma just as she love him.
Hillary was sad and grateful for what Stella did and she will keep on being grateful because she loss her life while trying to save Richard.
Her death anniversary is today and Hillary had prepared it all. Giving her best to make everything right but Richard,along with his step mom and half brother didn’t come. At least she knows why Richard didn’t show but for his step mom she didn’t know and she didn’t care.
“She did it because she loves you and am sure that if she had to go through the same thing again, she would make the same decision. So instead of feeling guilty about it be glad and grateful. She had given you another chance to live and you must live it to the fullest”Hillary said earning a smile from him.
“Have I told you that I love you?”he asked as he pulled her close.
“No you haven’t”She replied
“Then let me do that now”He said as he stared at her.
“I love you Hillary. I love you so much. You and Milly have been the best thing in my life. Thanks for forgiving me and coming into my life”He said
“Your going to make me cry”Hillary said as she tried to blink back the tears.
“When I was told that I had cancer. I thought it was the end of the world for me. I thought I would never get to be happy but little did I know that the misdiagnosis was going to lead you back into my life”He said as they both remembered their first encounter again after years of being separated.
“And that’s all thanks to Elena who chose me”Hillary said as she curved her arm possesively around his neck.
“That’s something I will be grateful to her for the rest of my life”he added.
“Am happy! So very happy to have you in my life again. I love you Richard”She said as he kissed her before saying “Me too”
“What about Milly?”Richard asked as they both walked back to the villa.
“With my mom. I bet my mom is spoiling her rotten and that makes me jealous”Hillary said softly.
“Why are you jealous?”Richard asked.
“While our daughter receive all the spoiling. I hardly recieve a thing. There was once a time you spoilt me rottenly” Hillary said as she pouted her lips.
“I get it now. You want me to spoil you just as Milly is being spoilt. Well your wish is my command”He said and before she could stop him, he carried her into his arms.
“No one will be bothering us. It will just be the two of us tonight”Hillary whispered into his ear giving him a naughty look.
“I like that. I really really like that”Richard said as he carried her into the house. Closing the door.
