Romeo open his eyes to find himself in an
unknown room.
What happen? The last thing he remembered
was Thalia’s abduction. Is he dead or perhaps
did he make it?
These thoughts ran through his mind as he kept
starring around the room. When he could no
longer take the questions going through his
head, he sat up wanting to leave his bed but the
drip in his hand prevented his move.
He was about to pull it out of his hand when the
door open, revealing Jerry.
“You are up!” Jerry said in excitement as he
quickly went to get him back into the bed while
pressing the button meant to alert the nurse.
Sometime later, when the doctor had finish
checking up on Romeo. He left Jerry alone with
him.
” I better call your mom and tell her the good __”
“Before you do that can you tell me what has
happen? It was just yesterday that Thalia got
kidnapped, how is she and what about Peter?”
“Thalia didn’t get kidnap yesterday. Well having
been in a coma for too long, you must think the
whole incident happened yesterday ” Jerry
replied.
“For how long have I been in a coma?”
“Today will make it the end of the third month.
You’ve been in a coma for three months” Jerry
said surprising Romeo.
“Gosh” Romeo muttered, flabbergasted by his
answer.
If he’s been asleep for three months then Its
way past the day he’s meant to die from his
family curse but he’s __alive.
“Did they somehow break the spell?” He
muttered to himself but Jerry heard him.
“They did”
“How on earth did you know that?” Romeo
asked since he never told his friend about his
curse.
“It was about a month ago, Your aunt came here
to check up on you and we were present. She
had no choice but to tell us the truth. Am quite
angry at you for not telling us about it yourself,
you’ve been suffering alone while we knew
nothing” Jerry said looking a little vexed.
“Am sorry. I just didn’t want to burden you guys,
where are the others?”
“Well, Donald is dealing with some family issue
at home, turns out he has a twin brother named
Felix. An accident which was caused by Donald
got his parents putting Felix in hiding”
“Why would they do that?” Romeo asked.
“Back then the accident was fatal and everyone
thought Felix dead while Donald survived. It just
so happen then that their father was running for
the position of governor and when the accident
happen, he earned more votes since everyone
thought he lost a son but the son didn’t die
which is he had to keep Felix in hiding. Felix
h@tëd Donald for this and blamed him for
everything but then Donald has had enough and
is finally standing up for himself” Jerry ended
his explanation.
“Am happy for him”
“You will be happy to know that Cherry left the
country for good and I don’t think she’s ever
coming back”
“Good riddance” Romeo muttered.
“Peter is dead”
“For real?” Romeo asked startled by this sudden
news.
“He killed himself in jail. I don’t know why but I
think it’s due to his d@mn conscience. He was
buried some few weeks ago” Jerry explained
while Romeo tried to come to terms with his
death.
“Then there is me. Apart from coming to the
hospital to check on you, I also got a girlfriend”
“Really? Who?”
“Daniella. Once am done here, I’m going to see
her, I can’t do a day without seeing her. You
must understand how I feel since you’ve also
fallen in love ” Jerry said cheerfully and it was
then Romeo remembered that he’s been missing
an important question.
“What about Thalia? Where is she?” He asked
quickly and Jerry’s countenance changed.
“Well she’s__”
“What happened!”
“Two months ago Thalia had gone to see your
aunt to talk about your curse and together they
went to see the monk who told them that a
ritual must be done”
“A ritual which someone has to sacrifice their
life” Jerry added looking very sad.
“Who gave up their life for me?” Romeo asked
slowly.

The door to a ward was pulled open and Romeo
walked in accompanied by Jerry.
On seeing Thalia unconcious body on the bed,
he immediately fell on his knees beside the bed.
He took hold of her hand while trying to hold
back the tears that threatened to spill.
“The doctor said she’s not brain dead, when
someone is brain dead, the brain wave becomes
a flat line. But hers indicate that she’s in REM
sleep” Jerry explained.
“REM sleep?”
“Yes. It’s the brain wave of someone who is
dreaming” he further explained making Romeo
understand better.
“How did this happen?” Romeo asked as he grip
her hand in his.
“On the day of the ritual, your aunt had been the
one to perform most of the task which led to her
death since it had to be a sacrificial ritual”
“Thalia was returning with the monks when they
got into an accident. The monks only had a few
scratch but Thalia had been unconcious, the
doctor say that it’s probably the shock” Jerry
answered.
“But why? Why would you guys let them do
such a thing, you should have stopped them!”
Romeo yelled at him.
“We did try but your aunt threatened to cast a
spell on us” Jerry said quickly.
“This is all my fault. If I hadn’t fallen into a
coma and I had died when I was meant to this
would never have happen” he said as the tears
he’s been holding back begin to pour.
The door open admitting his mom who
immediately went to hug him.
“When I went to your room and didn’t find you
there, I knew you will be here. Thanks for
coming back my son” she said crying profusely.
“I came back at the expense of aunt life. She
died in my stead, mom” Romeo said bawling his
eyes out.
“Her unconditional love for you made her do it.
She told me to tell you not to feel guilty since
she did a good thing and that’s saving you” his
mom said as she cradled a crying Romeo in her
arms while Jerry couldn’t help but to shed a tear
where he stood watching the scene in front of
him.

<< WEEKS LATER ~ GRAVE YARD >>
“Aunt Lola, how are you doing up there? Am
sorry it took me weeks to come see you but I
didn’t have the courage” Romeo said as he
stood in front of a grave, holding a bouquet.
“Am really sorry, am sorry for everything and I
promise that in your next life, I will be the one to
save you” he added in tears.
Placing the bouquet on the grave, he left the
grave yard.
Ever since he left the hospital two weeks ago,
he’s been transported everywhere by a driver his
mother hired.
“Where do we go next, sir?” The driver asked.
“Take me to school, my friends are graduating
today” Romeo said, a smile lightening up his
face.
Though they got stuck in traffic, he made it to
the graduation ceremony before it ended.
He stood at the back watching the principal
present the certificate to the students and when
it got to Donald and Jerry’s turn, he felt so
proud.
If his aunt hadn’t die in his stead then he
wouldn’t be here witnessing this moment.
When the picture session ended, they settled
they all went to the school cafeteria to
celebrate.
” Gosh, I never thought I would graduate” Jerry
said while Daniella gave him a kiss on the lips.
“You did a good job sweetie”
“Thanks though I can’t wait for yours” Jerry said
in return.
“Your gonna have to wait three years more, can
you handle that?” Daniella asked and instead of
replying, he gave her a kiss on the lips.
“I can” Jerry said looking at her with so much
love.
“Common, get a room and let us single breathe!”
Dennis complained while sipping his juice.
“That’s why have been telling you to get a girl, if
you had done just that you won’t be feeling
single” Michelle teased while Donald took hold
of her to kiss it.
“You and Donald are no different too” Dennis
said which got them all laughing.
“What about Felix?” Romeo asked Donald.
“He’s currently in London. After stating my mind,
my parents reconsider things and let Felix out to
the public though it ruined my father’s image.
Am happy that I can get to live my life now and
love who I want to” He added as he stared at
Michelle who smiled happily at him.
“Am happy for you guys and as much as I
would love to stay for the after party I can’t
since I have to return to the hospital” Romeo
said and immediately they understood what he
meant.
“Why don’t we just come with you?” Daniella
suggested.
“Don’t worry and try to enjoy yourselves” Romeo
said before leaving the cafeteria.
He got back to the hospital heading to one of
the vip ward where he had had Thalia
transfered to.
He walked in expecting to see Thalia
unconcious form on the bed but there was no
one there.
He stopped a nurse who walked by and asked
about Thalia.
“The patient went into cardiac arrest, we could
do nothing to save her and she passed away.
Am sorry sir” the nurse said giving him the
shock of his life.
Romeo felt life seeping out of him__ Thalia
can’t possibly be gone.
He began to leave for the mortuary when he
bumped into Thalia’s doctor.
“The nurse must have told you the news right?”
The doctor asked.
“No, I can’t accept that Thalia is dead. You said
she was just in a deep sleep, how come she’s
gone?” A grieve looking Romeo asked.
“Who said she’s dead” The doctor said and that
stole Romeo attention.
“If she’s not dead, where is she then?” Romeo
demanded.
As soon as the elevator door slid open, Romeo
got out of it.
He saw someone standing against the railing
starring at the sky, no one had to tell him who it
was.
As if she could sense his arrival, Thalia turned
to see Romeo looking at her.
” Romeo” she called, tears of relief welling up in
her eyes.
Walking the few distance that separate them, he
pulled her into his arms.
“Am so glad you are fine now. I thought__ I
thought I lost you a while ago” he said as the
tears streak down his cheeks.
“You must have thought something happened
to me when you got back to my ward. Am sorry
but when I woke up some hours ago, I couldn’t
resist and came up here to stare at the sky ” she
said as she wipe the tears off his cheek.
“Dummy! You didn’t have to go that far just to
save me. It was torture seeing you in that state”
Romeo admonish.
“And it was more torture for me knowing that
you were going to die from the curse. When the
monk told us of a way to save you, I wanted to
be the sacrificial lamb but your aunt insisted
and she__ she”
“I know. She died while saving me, I will forever
be grateful to her” Romeo said and pulled her
into a tight embrace again.
“I love you, Thalia. I don’t want to spend the rest
of my life without you in it” Romeo whispered
into her ear.
“Same here. Let’s never get sick again, okay”
Thalia said and he nodded before claiming her
lips.
When he pulled away, he stared down at her
with so much love in his eyes.
“Tell me what you were dreaming about for so
long” Romeo demanded and that earn him a
smile from her.
” About us. I dreamt about us getting married
and then we had a few kids”
“A few kids?”
“About twelve” Thalia replied while he gave her
a naughty look.
“They all grew up to be lovely children and they
loved and care for us even when we grew old
and grey” Tahlia continue while Romeo listen.
Both of them picturing a life for themselves now
that death is no longer frowning upon them.
And they did build a home with twelve kids who
cared for them when they grew old and grey.
