Chapter Five
Later in the day, Baek-Hyun drove ji-ho home from work, and they came down as they walked inside.
“Is this where you live?” he asked as ji-ho typed her password on her door.
“Yes”. she replied and the door opened and they went inside, she was caught off guard as Baek-Hyun pulled her to himself and pinned her against the wall, their eyes interlock and they could hear each other heartbeat.
” I miss you”. he moved his lips closer and kissed her softly. Ji-ho responded quickly to his kisses and caressed his hair while he caressed her gently, the kiss lasted for a minute, and they pulled away from each other to catch their breath. ji-ho moved away from him and left to the kitchen to get him a glass of water, Baek-Hyun stared amazingly around the house and then sat down on the couch, ji-ho came over and handed him a glass of water and sat down facing him. “Thank you” ” He sips from it and places the rest on the table in front of him. ” how long have you been staying here?”.
“Two years now”.
” Okay, I–
“How did you find where I work?” she interrupted him.
“Er, I asked your friend about it and she told me”.
” Great, I should have known”. she scoffs.
“I just wanted to see you and talk to you”.
“talk about what? I told you before, that this can’t work between us”.
” And why not? Why can’t it work?”. he asked staring straight into her eyes.
“Because –“.
” Because of our age differences”. he cut her short and sighed sadly. “I told you I don’t care about that, I want you, you are the one my heart yawn for”.
” Stop Baek-Hyun!” she snapped at him and stood up to the window. “don’t complicate things as it is now, you have a life to live and you have a gorgeous woman who has been betrothed to you, you two can live happily together”.
” Don’t say that”. he moves to her and embraces her behind her back. “I don’t love her, my heart has always been with you since the very day I set my eyes on you, please don’t push me away, I don’t want to go away from you, give me time, and I will resolve it”. he said and ji-ho sniffed.
“Baek-Hyun, we have to end this before…” She turned around to look at him face-to-face and then caressed his cheek.”let’s end it before it becomes unbearable for us, I don’t want to make another mistake again”.
“no, no, I can’t”. He hugged her tight to himself.” please stop pushing me away, I am not a kid anymore, I am not the naive boy you once knew, please ji-ho, don’t make me go away from you, I don’t care about your past mistakes, please, let me mend it,” he said still holding her tight.
Some hours later, Baek-hyun carried ji-ho to the bed after she had fallen asleep on his lap, he covered her with the blanket and left for his car, after shutting the door. a few minutes later, he drove back home and screamed in fear immediately he turned on the switch on the wall to see his two friends sleeping on the couch and they woke up.
“You are finally back, where have you been all day?”. Chan-yeol asked.
“hey! What are you guys doing here at this time of the night, in my house? You scared me “. he asked frowning at them.
” Why are you sneaking into your house like that?”. Byung-ho asking.
“I didn’t sneak up in…by the way, this is my house, why are you here?”
“We have been waiting for you for many hours now, your maid told us you went out since morning, where did you run off to and why was your phone switched off?”. Chan-yeol asked and Baek-Hyun sat down next to them.
” I turned it off”. he said.
“Why?” chan-yeol asked.
“Because it’s my phone and I have the right to turn it off”.
” did you go out in search of Miss Ji-ho?”Byung-ho questioned suspiciously and Baek-Hyun was quiet.
“You did?”. Chan-yeol.
” yeah, so what if I did?”. he snapped at them.
“So, did you find her?”. Byung-ho asked and Baek-Hyun nodded.
” Really? How can you still be chasing after a married woman”. chan-yeol yelled and turned in his direction.
“Married? Is she Married, Baek-Hyun?” Byung-ho asked confusedly.
“Who told you she got married? Were you present at the wedding?” Baek-Hyun stared hard at him.
“I heard it and I found my research about her”. he replied.
” What did you see?”Baek-Hyun asked.
“Why are you asking me? Go and confirm it yourself, let her tell you everything, I won’t tell you” ” He stood up to leave. ” Good night”. he stumbled away.
“She didn’t tell you, didn’t she?” Byung-ho sighed. “anyway, I’m off to bed, Good night”. he stood up and left. Baek-Hyun sighed, After a while, he stood up and left for his room.
Two days later, Baek-Hyun went home to answer his father’s calling, they sat down at the dining table having their lunch.
” Hope you are enjoying the food son?”Mrs. I-jun asked smiling at him.
“Yes Mom”. he replied.
” Anyway, son, I called you here because the president is inviting us to his family dinner this weekend”. Mr.Dae-jung said.
“Am not going, Dad”. he said and they stared surprisedly at him.
” why not?”. Mrs. I-jun asked.
“is a family reunion and we need to be there because very soon, we will be coming family” Mr.Dae-jung.
” Will you please stop saying that”. Baek-Hyun snapped. “I don’t want to be a part of their family, stop urging me against my will, I don’t like her, and I will not make her part of this family”. he said intensely.
” You can’t be serious son, that girl has been betrothed to you since you were a child, and that it shall remain for the family’s friendship to go on”. Mr.Dae-jung bluntly.
“What has that got to do with me? why do you want to trade my happiness for some wh@tëver relationship you have with the president? listen, Dad, I am not catered for all this, allow me to choose the woman I want and the one I want to spend the rest of my life with, is that too much to ask?”. he said.
” let’s keep this discussion for another day”. Mr.Dae-jung said angrily and continued with his food. Mrs. I-jun sighed tiredly and patted her son’s back to calm down.
Ji-ho came over to Su-ho Cafe, and they sat down as the sales girl served them a milkshake and a spring roll
“You shouldn’t have told Baek-Hyun where I work”. Ji-ho said as she sipped from her drink.
” Don’t blame me, the young man was eager to see you”. she replied, and then sighed.” so, tell me, what is your relationship with him?”. she asked smiling and Ji-ho stared confusedly at her.
“How do you mean?”
“you know what I mean, the young man is falling for you, and I can see it in his eyes” ” She takes a bite from her spring roll.
” There is no relationship between me and Baek-Hyun, can’t you see I am older than him, and besides he is engaged”.
“And so, he is engaged and not married, listen to me Ji-ho, when it comes to love, age is exempted, and besides you have been caving and whining for his return, you miss him and I can remember clearly you have been feeling guilty for not confessing your feelings for him before he left”. she said.
” That was before”.
“And now, Does it change anything? I know you still have that feeling for him and I could tell from your smile at the party the other day, and that was because you met with him”.
” Of course not”. she said as she turned her face to the table.
“You know you are not good at hiding your feelings, Baek-Hyun might be younger, but he is smart and mature, I can see he is someone who never lets go of the things he loves, you said he had been stalking you from school and now that he is back, do you think he will stop?”. She said and the words struck Ji-ho’s heart.
” You know this can never occur between us, if his parents find out about us, it will be a great confrontation” ” She sighed sadly and Su-ho felt her hand tenderly.
“I know and I understand, but let the future be the judge of that”. she said as she continued taking a sip from her drink. Ji-ho let out a sigh and stared outside the window.
Later in the cool evening, Baek-Hyun Came over to his balcony, he rested his body on the rail along with a glass of wine in his hand and stared out to the big city with the thought of Ji-ho filling his heart. meanwhile, Ji-ho sat down on the couch next to the window, she was staring out at the sky and was also having the thought of Baek-Hyun, She had been pondering on Su-ho words and the thought of it was killing her inside and out.
