Chapter-Twenty-Four
The next day, Ha-jun was pestered around her room.
“I need to come up with something before he goes back looking for her”. she said and then left to meet her parents in the dining room having their lunch.” hey Dad, hey Mom”. she said and sat down.
“Hey, what’s up with you? You look pale “Mr. Dong-Geun asked.
” Nothing Dad, am fine”.
“Are you sure?”. Mrs. Do-yun asked.
” yes, but anyway I just came to let you guys know when will you be going back to Baek-Hyun’s parents to remind them about the engagement between their son and me”. she asked.
“Yes, you are right honey, I was beginning to think about it since you and Baek-Hyun’s relationship is going smoothly and I think It’s time to make it officially known to everyone”. he said.
” Yes, your dad is right”.
“Really, Dad?” she asked cheerfully.
“Yes, I will inform his dad about the family dinner at his place this weekend”. he said.
” That will be so great, I can’t wait”. she said and ran to her room happily, her parents smiled after her and resumed their meal.
Ji-ho sat down beside the window wallowing in pain, Su-ho opened the door holding a tray of food. It’s been two days since Su-ho asked her to stay with her for some days.
“Ji-ho, are you still crying?”. she dropped the tray on the table and moved to her.” Don’t cry too much, it will be harmful to the baby “. she said and patted her back.” please ji-ho”. Ji-ho sniffed and turned to face her.” look at your eyes are all swollen, come and eat your food”.
“No, am not hungry”.
” Don’t say that, for the sake of the baby”. she persuaded her.” please” She helped her to the couch and they sat down.” come on, eat” She took a scoop of the meal to ji-ho mouth.” you can’t continue to hurt yourself, remember what the doctor said about being emotional distress all the time, it can be harmful to the baby”. she sighed and continued to feed her.” I will advise you to go see Baek-Hyun the last time and try to explain things to him, let him know why you left,” she said and ji-ho sighed.
Baek-Hyun was busy in his office when the telephone rang, he picked it up.
“yes?” he paused for a while.” ok, let her in”. he hung up and continued what he was doing, thereafter, there was a knock on the door.” come in”. he said and Ha-jun entered holding a lunch box.
“Hey” ” She smiled and moved to his desk, Baek-Hyun stood up to her and they pecked each other on the cheek before sitting down.” how is it going?”.
“Fine, as you can see”. he replied.
” Sure, anyway I brought lunch”.
“Oh, wow, thanks”.
” You are welcome, let me serve it” ” She stood up to where he was, and Baek-Hyun pushed the files to the other side as she dished the food in front of him.
“Wow, this looks yummy!”.
” I know”.
“Your nanny made this?”.
” Nah, I did”. she said.
“You did?” he asked surprisedly.
“Yeah, I want you to have a taste of my food”.
” Ok,” he took a scoop of it to his mouth and was amazed by its taste.
“Does it taste good?” she asked and he thumped her.
“It tastes nice”.
” Thank you” ” She moved back to her seat and stared at him.
Ji-ho arrived in a taxi at Baek-Hyun Company, after Su-ho persuaded her to explain everything to Baek-Hyun. She tied her face with a scarf so as not to be recognized by anyone, after paying off the taxi man, she went inside, and the Secretary was not at her desk, so they all left for their lunch break, she sighed tiredly and then caught sight of one of staff climbing down from the staircase, she moves to him quickly
“Excuse me,” she said, and the man responded to her.
“yes, ma”.
” please, is your boss around?”.
“um, yes, do you have an appointment with him?”. he asked.
” yes, he knows I am coming today”.
“Ok, is probably in his office at the moment, you can go in”.
” Thank you”. She climbs up the staircase heading to his office.
Meanwhile, Baek-Hyun and Ha-jun were busy chatting with each other, and then the food got stuck on the side of his mouth. Ha-jun saw it and stood up to him, Baek-Hyun was caught off guard as she leaned her face closer to him, she cleaned off the food stuck in his mouth, and he gulped nervously as their eyes interlocked, Ha-jun leaned her face closer with her eyes closed and their lips were inch apart when suddenly the door went open, Ji-ho was stunned as she caught sight of them in that position and they quickly pushed back staring surprisedly at her.
“Ji-ho?” Baek-Hyun called surprisedly as he stood up quickly.
“what the hell is she doing here? why did she have to come back?” Ha-jun said to herself staring hard at Ji-ho.
“Am sorry, I didn’t mean to barge in on you two like that”. she sputtered, Baek-Hyun stared at her, at that moment all he wanted to do was pull her tight into his arms and caress her, but he couldn’t because of the anger he feel for her.
” Why are you here? I thought you left already? Why are you here again? Haven’t you done enough damage already?”. Ha-jun asked angrily.
I-i–” She got interrupted.
“She is right, you have no business here anymore or with me, so, why are you here?”. Baek-Hyun said and they were surprised.” who allowed you in?” he yelled and Ha-jun smiled smugly to herself.
“Um, no one actually, I notice everyone went out for their lunch break –“.
” And you have the guts to come into my office like that!” he said staring hard at her.
“I didn’t mean for that, I just came to explain things to you”.
” Well, I don’t need your explanation”. he moves closer to her as their body were an inch apart. Ji-ho could see the anger and hatred in his eyes. “I don’t want you here ever again, I don’t want you close to me or even around me, because we are done! Wh@tëver explanation you want to say, keep it to yourself, Now leave”. he said harshly.
” You heard him, leave us alone”. Ha-jun said.
“Baek-Hyun I—
” Leave! Or I will call security to come and drag you out”.
“I just want — she was caught off guard as Baek-Hyun took her hand and dragged her out before shutting the door against her. he rested his head on the door and sighed sadly, Ha-jun came over and patted his back.
” Is ok Baek-Hyun, she is gone now, you don’t have to worry about her anymore”. she said, Baek-Hyun turned to her, and she hugged him right.” I am here now, everything is going to be alright”. she said politely.
meanwhile, Ji-ho stood at the doorstep for a while as tears crawled out from her eyes, she wiped them off quickly with her scarf, then she walked away, stopped a taxi driver and they drove off.
The next day, Ji-ho was arranging her clothes in her bag with the help of Si-u and Su-ho.
“Do you really try to explain things to him?” Su-ho asked.
“Yes, I did, but it’s too late already, Baek-Hyun has moved on, and I am happy about that”. Ji-ho said smiling forcedly.
” You really do not have to fake it you know, we know his anger towards you is just temporary, he really did not mean to do what he did to you at his office”. Si-u said.
“Your sister is right, give him more time”. Su-ho said.
” I don’t blame him for chasing me out of his office and his life, it’s my fault, I made him like that, so, wh@tëver decision he makes, am ok with it, I will be more happier if he finally moves on with Ha-jun, they both deserve each other,”.she said.
“Will you please stop saying that, you and I know how much you love and care for him, do you really mean what you are saying right now?”. Su-ho said and Ji-ho sighed.
” I don’t want to hurt him anymore, Baek-Hyun has been through a lot because of me if I go back to him, his father will disown him and take everything he had ever worked for, I don’t want that to happen”.
“We understand, but you can’t hide your feelings for him forever, he deserves to know about the baby,” Si-u said.
“I will let him know when the time comes, but for now, I don’t want to bother him with it, if he finds out about this pregnancy, he will come running back and I don’t want that”. she said. and they sigh.” I know you two are worried about me”.
“We are, but, how are you going to cope alone?”. Su-ho asked.
” Am not alone, I have my family with me and of course, you, you guys are my strength in this life, and this baby growing inside of me will always remind me of Baek-Hyun, the sadness I felt before it has faded away because of this pregnancy”. she said and they took her hands.
“And you are going to make the best mom ever”. Su-ho said smiling.
” Of course, I will”. they gave a group hug.
“Am gonna miss you”. Su-ho said.
” Me too” They pull away from each other embrace.” don’t worry I will be calling from time to time”.
“Are you going to stay with our parents till the baby is born?” Si-u asked.
“Yes, but, after the baby is born we both will be moving back to the state to start our lives over again”. she said
” That will be a better idea”. Su-ho said and they smiled at each other.
later in the evening, Baek-Hyun sat at his minibar drinking and was having a reverie about what happened between him and Ji-ho at his office, the more he kept thinking about it the more it hurt him deeply, and used the drink to quench his pain.
