Tonia ma’am, your breakfast is served, my cook said immediately I mounted down the steps
I’m so sorry for the stress but I think you will have to do justice to wh@tëver it is you prepared because I’m already behind time. I said and grabbed my car keys hastily heading out while Vicky followed suit
The aroma from the food is very inviting, I should have taken a bite or two, Vicky said grumbling
I know you’re a foodie Vicky, you should have stayed back and have a bite or two then get yourself fired, I replied her driving out of my compound
If there’s anything I must do now, I must have to get to my office before Mr Derricks, he doesn’t give excuses when it comes to business and he doesn’t like excuses either besides is the first time I’m going to be meeting him in person

Vicky modded her head with her head glued with wh@tëver she’s punching and doing with her tab
Immediately I stepped into my company, right from the gate, I started receiving loads of greetings, from the gateman to the securities and many others.
It’s more like a norm and sometimes I wish that I can just disappear and appear right in my office to avoid a load truck of greetings.
So so tiring gosh! I reciprocated to a few and use a wave of hands and smiles on few others.
Immediately I got to my office, I took the few docvments and files I will be needing and headed to the board meeting room where I would be meeting with Mr Derricks and few other board of trustees.
It wasn’t up to 10 seconds that I stepped in there and Mr Derricks came in also. I and Vicky exchanged eye contacts and I let out a silent long sign…. “That was so close, quit a narrow escape it is” I muttered inwardly
After an exchange of pleasantries, Mr Derricks cleared his throat and began
So why do you think you deserves this contract miss Tonia?
I was taken aback a bit, I never thought that he will be asking such a question, I thought I was gonna present my beautiful well packaged presentation that I have been working my ãss out for since the past week, and that will be it. Oh my goodness!
So this is what makes this Mr Derricks of a man different from the rest of others, and that’s what makes him contradictory as others have always said so about him
Is my first time meeting the almighty “Derricks Anderson Empires” in person, I mean, I really went overboard making lots of researches so as to impress him and now he is asking me why “I deserve the contract” ? without even bothering to listen and watch my presentation
All of these was going through my mind not until Vicky my PA tapped matched my leg under the table which made me regain myself
You’ve been standing for a while miss Tonia, is the question too difficult for you to answer?
Mr Derricks asked me adjusting his glasses and taking a quick glance at his wrist watch
I know that I will be messing things up if I don’t act fast or say something immediately
Eeemm! sir, Is my first time meeting you in person so I’m just too wowed and feeling very honored at your presence sir
I said trying to buy time so as to answer his question
We will talk about other things after this meeting, if time permits, “it’s work o’clock” but for now business first, miss Tonia
Mr Derricks replied taking a glance at his wrist watch again
Well sir, the reason why I should be awarded this contract is because I’m the most deserving of it, and I have walked in that shoes before arriving at where I am today.
I said not even certain of what I’m saying or the right words to use
Can you please be a little more precise miss Tonia? he said glancing at his watch again
“Don’t be a jerk Tonia! or you will miss a big opportunity as this, just brace up girl, you got this”
I heard my subconscious mind warning and encouraging me also, so I braced my self
When I mean I have walked that line before sir, I was only trying to emphasize on who I was many years ago.
Born and brought up as an orphan in the orphanage home, roamed the streets at some point trying to find my feet was a very difficult one for me as a growing child
So if I’m privileged enough to be awarded this contract, I will change the whole settings and the narrative about orphans, the less privelaged and orphanage homes
You know most orphanage homes doesn’t have the modern facilities and enough capitals to give the children in there a better life and upbringing.
Poor supplies of light, insufficient food supplies, inadequate learning environments, poor resting and sleeping materials, low supplies of water, little or no medical equipments for treatment, incompetent and aggressive caregivers, little or no moral and religious beliefs, inconvenience and very compacted rooms, no direction on skills and talents, lack of clothes and footwear,and most importantly,
Lack of self esteem, confidence, boldness which breeds bullies, discrimination, segregation, contempt and manhandling of orphans
I’m going to let the whole world know that no child wished to be born and orphan and also orphans are first human beings before becoming an orphan and should not be treated wrongly and less of a human
I will let the world knows that orphans also have a voice, skills and talents as well just like everyother kids lucky enough to have a parents and living with them.
I will let the world know that orphans has the right to life and choices just like other kids with parents does and hence shouldn’t be denied that opportunity because everyone breaths in the same air irrespective of who they are and also, the same red blood runs through in everyone’s vain no matter who!
I will also educate…..

Mr Derricks said cutting me off and standing up at the same time with hands outstretched towards Tonia
Tonia reluctantly brought out her hands and shake Mr Derricks
It’s nice meeting with you miss Tonia, I will get back to you in two days time, only then will you know if you truly deserves this contract or not.

And you too sir, Tonia managed to say as they both unlock their hands, then Mr Derricks quickly exit the door.
Tonia slumped back on her chair wiping her eyes with the tip of her little finger
Congratulations in advance ma’am, hope you gets this contract, each of her board members said before using the door
That man is so strange, strict and very straight to the point always, I wonder how he manages to relate with his employees.. Vicky voiced out breathing down.
Wow! such energy ma’am, you was literally screaming while talking but I understand you dear, these are all the things you passed through growing up as a child
Memories Vicky, been an orphan is terrible and those in glass houses makes it looks like a leprosy diseases. Gosh! you don’t know half of it girl, I swears down!
You deserves this contract Tonia, you made a valid point, narratives about orphans and orphanage home needs to be changed. Vicky said giving Tonia a quick hug because she seems too emotional now
I really needed that hug right now and you gave it at right time, much appreciated Vic, you’re such an angel.
Awww! I’m blushing right now, Vicky said giggling
I tell you what Vic, if I’m going to be awarded the contract or not, “Narratives about orphans has to be changed”!
Having said that, Tonia stood up and storm the door while Vicky quickly packed up the files and laptops and run after her madame.
