” Boss ” He called as he raised his head. He removed his hoodie and his face came to view.
Eduardo!
Mariano smirked instead, leaving Nathan to wonder what was happening. That moment, Menodora descended the stairs too.
” Babe..” Mariano smiled.
” How can you smile like that?” Nathan yelled.
” Cool down uncle, and you can have your seat so I can introduce you to the girl I want to spend the rest of my life with” Mariano said, and turned to Eduardo.
” Nice outfit you’ve got there… Should we shoot a movie” He asked.
” Should we?” Eduardo asked back as he chuckled which made Nathan face his direction.
” What’s happening here?” Menodora asked, but no one replied until she got to them. Mariano made her seat and that was when she saw his bleeding chest.
” Oh my God! you’re bleeding!” She exclaimed, moving her gaze to Eduardo.
” Eduardo, why are you dressed like that? And who’s this man you’re standing with?” She asked.
” A long story ” Eduardo replied and held Nathan’s shoulder.
” I thought Mariano was lying when he told me about you ” He pouted.
” Charles!” Nathan yelled.
” Charles? Who’s that? ” Eduardo frowned and looked at Mariano who shrugged.
” Did I just find a name for my pet?” He faced Nathan again, but Nathan punched his face, bursting his lips.
He laughed dryly and cleaned the blood.
” You’re pretty strong for your age, Uncle Nathan. You should go easy on me, don’t you have kids?” He pouted.
” What’s happening here, can someone say something?” Menodora asked.
” Ahh… This man here, is Uncle Nathan whom Mariano told us about last night” Eduardo began.
” But do you know what? He’s after Mariano’s company cos he believes Mariano’s grandpa made a mistake by giving his younger brother, Ethan, the company” He concluded.
” Oh… but why are you dressed in that outfit?”
” Oh, this… It’s pretty cool and looks like the one I have at home, so on my way here, I met three idiots and I took care of them… I was so interested in the outfit which is why I took this one” Eduardo said, turning around.
” I look cool, right?” He asked.
” Totally cool ” Menodora gave him a thumbs up.
” Really?” Mariano scoffed.
Eduardo and Menodora chuckled.
” You’re not Charles? So where’s Charles?” Nathan asked, looking at the three of them.
” Steve… you there?” Eduardo asked and Steve walked in with three people who were only in their underpants and were all tied up.
” Seriously Mariano, these idiots are pretty strong but trust me” Eduardo winked while Mariano laughed.
” Who among you is the Charles that this old man keeps calling me?” He asked and a young guy in his early twenties raised his shaky hands.
Eduardo stared at him unbelievably.
” What? The motherf*cker is a kid? Wow!” He clicked his tongue together, before facing Mariano.
” What should we do with them, man?” He asked.
” That thing, is it with you?” Mariano asked and he nodded.
” You actually came here faster than I expected, dawg!” Mariano said as Eduardo brought out a gun which he threw at him.
” Yeah, I wonder how fast I could drive. Now, let’s end this mess fast. I need to go home before Dad wakes up” He said.
” I told you I’ll kill you first if we meet and you must know me to be a guy of my words” Mariano ÇOçked the gun and pointed it at Nathan.
Menodora’s eyes widened.
” You can’t do it, Mariano. You can’t have blood on your hands” She intervened.
” You should listen to her. You think if you kill me now, the truth won’t come to light?” Nathan asked, a bit frightened.
” I’ll kill you, and bury you. You appear in my sleep, I kill you again” He said, staring directly into Nathan’s eyes.
” Please stop him, Eduardo ”
” Why? This isn’t his first time. He killed the night you were abducted” Eduardo replied.
” What?”
” Seriously Mariano, you were supposed to join a mafia gang or something. Can’t believe you blew off the dude’s brain that way. Jeez, the news got me traumatized” He shuddered.
‘ He killed someone?’ Menodora was still in thought when she heard a gunshot which made her flinch.
She turned and her eyes widened upon seeing the man on the ground with a bullet in his skull. She stared back at Mariano who still had the gun pointed in a direction. This time, at the three guys.
” Who among you attacked me ” He asked, but they weren’t ready to talk so he shot one of them without warning.
” Who among you attacked me” He asked again and Charles bowed at once.
” I’m sorry ” He pleaded.
Mariano stared at him with a frown on his forehead.
” You know me?” He asked and Charles nodded quickly.
” Yeah… I came to your office one day to beg for money for my younger sister’s kidney surgery which you gave me. After her surgery, I thought things were going well until she was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. I couldn’t sought out the medical bills, so I came again but I wasn’t allowed in ”
” My sister was dying, no one cared. On my way out, I met Santiago. He asked me what happened and I explained my ordeal. He promised to help me if I work for him and without giving it a second thought, I agreed to it. He gave me the money I needed, but he left after that and came back not long. He told me things about you and how he wanted me to kill you and take over your company”
” I attacked you that night and after you left your friend’s place, I tailed you. I shot you, but I had no intention of killing you cause you were once my benefactor. If I had seen you that evening again, I’m sure I wouldn’t have done all the dirty jobs I did for your uncle. I was also behind the attack at the hospital. Immediately you were shot that day, we drove off, but I had to come back. I was the one that texted your friend about the incident. I also put a tracker on your phone so I’ll know your whereabouts”
” When the pressure got too much from Santiago and I also needed money, I decided to end your life since I’ve been missing all my chances of killing you. The syringe I was supposed to inject you that night, was meant to kill you, but I got a change of mind and decided to inject you with a pain relief syringe instead, but then, I was the one who got injected that’s why nothing happened to me”
” On my way out, I met your friend. He was in a hurry to see you when he met me. I think he sensed something was wrong so he came after me. A fight started between us and I ended up injecting him with the syringe I wanted to use on you” Charles explained.
” Huh? It’s you! The motherf*cker who almost killed me?” Eduardo exclaimed, ruffling his hair.
” I narrowly escaped death that night! If it wasn’t Mom, then I’d probably be dead!” He shouted.
” I should just kill him” He made to attack Charles, but Steve held him. Mariano immediately shot the guy next to Charles, before pointing the gun at Charles.
” Mariano, please ” Menodora begged on her knees.
” Your parents, where are they?” Mariano asked the boy.
” They both died when I was in high school. I dropped out and couldn’t even help my sister further. Please, Sir, I’m sorry” He bowed.
” How old is your sister?”
” She’s 14 ”
Mariano sighed and dropped his gun.
He went into his room and came back minutes later with a pen and a piece of paper. Eduardo and Steve wondered what he was trying to do.
” Since you could still remember I helped you, and also tried to fool Nathan who I know is very cunny, then why should I kill you? Your life means nothing to me anyway, I already killed who I want to already, so… ” He scribbled something on the paper.
” Here, a sum of six million dollars, take it and start a business then take care of your younger sister” He stretched his hand towards Charles who had tears on his face already. He made to take it but Mariano held it back.
” If I ever see you doing any dirty job, I’ll blow off your head” He warned as he handed him the cheque.
” Thank you sir, thank you” Charles bowed continuously while Menodora smiled. Eduardo did the same.
Mariano gave him new clothes to put on.
Menodora went to him and helped him up.
” Are you hungry?” She asked.
” No, I’m okay. I’m already grateful my life was spared” He bowed.
” Yeah, I’m not good at helping others, but… it’s fine” Mariano replied, then stared at his uncle’s body.
” What should I do with this foól?” He asked.
” I can help you throw away their bodies if you want” Charles volunteered.
” See? He knows everything! A killer in the making” Eduardo rolled his eyes and sat down.
Mariano chuckled and massage his temple.
He helped Charles with the bodies and came back into the sitting room.
” Your uncle is the most stûpîd being I’ve seen. The old buffalo doesn’t even recognize his worker’s face? Tch…” Eduardo scoffed.
” Steve, it’s been a while” Menodora waved and he nodded.
” Hey man, it’s been quite a while” Mariano hit Steve’s shoulder.
” You’re still bleeding” Steve said and he stared at his chest with a sigh.
” Grey will be here soon” He muttered.
” Dad kept murmuring “Ruby mankind”. That’s the only thing he’s said so far” Eduardo leaned back on the couch.
Menodora immediately took her phone and showed Eduardo.
” This man?” She asked and Eduardo’s eyes widened.
” This is the d@mn Godforsaken man I think made my dad like that. Is he the Ruby mankind?” He asked and she nodded.
” He’s also responsible for my parent’s death and now he wants me”
” Then, don’t you think it’s time we look for him?” Mariano asked.
” I’m in ” Steve said and Eduardo nodded.
” I think I know someone who knows him ” Menodora said.
” Who?” They chorused at once.
” Santa Claus… Dorian’s boyfriend and Ruby’s trusted man ”
” Santa Claus? Dorian? Isn’t she your best friend?” Mariano asked and she nodded.
” Don’t worry, the guy is a nice guy. We’ve spoken and I think he really wants to get rid of Ruby too”
” Then I’m sure this Ruby must be a tough guy. He should know about this, so firstly, let’s meet this Santa Claus and let’s hear him out” Mariano said.
” When should we go see him?” Eduardo asked.
” Tomorrow night ” Mariano replied and everyone nodded. Just then, Rose walked in.
” Oh! Mom ” Mariano waved and her eyes landed on his cloth which was soaked in blood.
” Oh my God! You’re bleeding!” She exclaimed and ran to him.
” First aid kit ” She muttered and rushed into her room. She met Monica on her way back so she asked her to make dinner. She rushed back to her son and helped him with his wound.
