THIRST FOR MARRIAGE.
Prologue/Episode 1. A
“I’m getting married, Grace. I’m so excited! My wedding is gonna be the talk of the town!” Wendy said to me with cheerful tone and her eyes giggling all round in excitement.
“Oh wow, really? Congrats babe. Who is finally the lucky man?” I asked, enthusiastically.
“It’s Francis ooh. That one that bought me a ride last month.”
“Awnn.. that’s lovely.” I said and feigned a smile.
Out of the four friends we were in school, all has gotten married remaining Wendy and I. Now, Wendy is talking about her wedding in few weeks time. I feel left out. I’m even the oldest in our clique yet no reasonable guy is asking me out.
Sometimes, I wonder whether I’m not beautiful enough or whether I don’t have a nice shape that attracts men. I just don’t know. Soon, I will clock thirty yet the guys in my DM are either old, married or not interested in marriage with me.
“So Grace, I will give you the cloth for asoebi during the weekend.” Wendy said, interrupting my bitter thoughts.
“Asoebi?? I thought I’m gonna be the chief bridesmaid as we have always planned. What happened?”
“I’m sorry Grace, I know back then in Uni, we have always planned you would be my chief bridesmaid during my wedding and I will be the chief bridesmaid during yours too. But you see, now things have changed. My husband to be said he wants a married person as the cheif bridesmaid for myself. I can’t help.”
“It’s fine.” I said, picked up my bag and left.
“Some days would always be like that.” I muttered to myself while entering the taxi. Now, all my friends are married off, I would be all myself cos there would no one to gist as usual again. They would all be busy with their new family.
I got to my home and dashed onto the bed. Life is so boring as a spinster working in an enclosed city. I began my daily routine as usual. Going to teach in a school, few miles away from my home. Then back to the house to rest.
