Chapter 17
“I don’t”Erik said “People opinions of me don’t matter but yours sort of do”He said again “I wonder why”He muttered, staring intently at her.

Kiara looked at him, wondering what to say.
“You have a knack for getting in people’s heads” He said
“I…Uh,I don’t think so”She said awkwardly”I’m gonna leave now”She said and hurriedly walked away.
Erik stared down at the corndogs she was eating before releasing a smile as he remembered Kiara’s smile earlier
Daphne stood and walked to Kiara with a pout before wrapping her hands around her as soon Kiara walked in.
“I’ve missed you bestie”She said, hugging Kiara tightly “I’m really sorry we fought. I didn’t mean for things to turn out that way”
“What way did you mean for it to turn out?”Kiara asked “That I’d appreciate you for speaking that way about Natasha?”
“Hey, I’m really sorry. I promise it won’t happen again. You know I don’t like it when we fight” Daphne said, making a sad face.
“Me either”Kiara muttered. “You’re lucky I can’t stay mad at you for long”She said before wrapping her arms around Daphne also.
Daphne smiled.
“I know you missed me as well, you’re just too stubborn to admit it”,She grinned.
Kiara chuckled and rolled her eyes before coming out of Daphne’s hug.
They both sat.
“Hey, look what I got us”Daphne grinned happily, bringing out a flat gift box from her bag.
She opened it, showing Kiara the contents.
“Matching necklaces”Daphne said.
Kiara took out the necklaces and smiled as she gazed at it.
“We can wear it to that place we saw in your parents photo”Daphne said “What do you think?”
Kiara nodded smiling,”I love it”
“The idea or the necklace?”
“Both”She giggled.
Daphne joined her and they both continued conversing, laughing along as they did.
It was obvious they’ve both missed each other.

KIARA’S HOME>
“Kiara”Natasha stood as Kiara walked in. “You didn’t come home last night. Did something happen?”She asked , feigning concern “Are you okay?”
“Yeah, I’m okay. I just caught up at work yesterday. There’s nothing to be worried about”She smiled.
Natasha exhaled “I was so worried”She said
“I’m sorry I made you worry”Kiara said
“You don’t have to apologize about that. I’m just happy nothing bad happened to you”She said
Kiara smiled, seeing how Natasha was worried about her.
Ken sighed as he stood a few steps away from the elevator, watching Emily wondering whether to walk up to her or not.
He couldn’t seem to decide.
He exhaled, making up his mind before walking up to her.
“Hi”He smiled at her.
She raised up her head to look at him,surprise evident in her eyes despite the fact that she was wearing glasses.
“Ken”She said,her tone also expressing how surprised she was to see Ken in front of her.
He smiled awkwardly.
“Um… Would you be busy later today.” He asked
“Why do you ask?”
“I was wondering if you’d like to grab a drink with me after work and maybe talk a little”He said.
She stared at him for a while,as if giving it a thought.
He stared at her also,hoping she would say yes.
She nodded. “I would love that”She said.
Ken smiled.
Kiara just got into the company after getting a coffee for Erik and was about to head to an elevator but stopped when she heard someone call her name.
After turning and saw that the ‘someone’ was Lex,she ignored and continued her walk to the elevator.
Lex got in front of her, stopping her.
She sighed before looking up to face him.
“Listen, I’m not in the mood for this right now”She said.
“Pls hear me out”Lex said.
Erik came out of his office and went down to the lobby when he saw Kiara had not arrived yet.
It shouldn’t take her more than ten minutes to get the coffee and it’s already passed ten minutes since she left his office.
He stopped in his tracks after coming out of the elevator and saw Kiara talking to a guy dressed in a lab coat.
“Let’s talk things out. I’m really sorry about what happened between us”
“I’m not ready to hear anything you have to say” Kiara said.
“Kiara, come on”He said, pleadingly but she ignored and made to continue her walk to elevator but he held her hand and pulled her back, accidentally causing the coffee to fall from her hand,spilling on the floor,her shoes included,soiling it.
Erik saw the scene.
Kiara sighed, looking down at the spilled coffee.
“That was my boss’s coffee”She said
“I am so sorry”Lex said “I didn’t mean to do that. I’ll help you get another coffee”
“No, I’ll do that myself. Just… leave me alone okay? I’m not ready to have any talk with you. If you’re truly sorry, you’d respect that”She said solemnly and jerked her hands away from him before going out to get another coffee.
Erik watched Lex,a scoff escaping his lips as the scene of him pulling Kiara against her will and allowing the coffee in her hand spill replayed in his head.
Who was he to do that to his assistant?
°°FEW MINUTES LATER°°
“The new coffee maker will be here shortly,I already placed an order”Kiara said as she placed the cup of coffee in her hand on Erik’s desk.
Erik brought the coffee closer to himself.
“Is there any other thing I can help you with sir”She asked.
He stood and walked to her.
He stared down at her soiled shoes.
She looked down awkwardly when she noticed him looking down at her shoes.
“Who was the guy at the lobby?”Erik asked
“What?”She looked up at him
“The guy who soiled your shoes”He said
“How did…”
“So,you just let yourself get bullied?”He asked.
“I wasn’t …”She sighed, knowing she couldn’t explain the actual cause of her and Lex’s conflict.
“Do something about your shoes”He said
“I’ll get it cleaned when I get home”She said
“You’re going to wear it around for the rest of the day until you get home”
“That’s… sort of the only choice I have”She chuckled awkwardly.
He sighed.
“Come with me”He said.
The shoe store wasn’t really far from the company so Erik didn’t bother to take his car with him.
He and Kiara got there in a few minutes.
Kiara looked at Erik, surprised that he brought her to a shoe store. She had thought they were going somewhere office related.
Erik tucked his hands in his pockets and looked at her
“I’ve only got a few minutes to spare,get yourself a new pair of shoes and let’s leave. We’re here already so don’t think of refusing”
“Yes sir”She said and walked further into the store.
Kiara followed Erik behind as they walked in.
She now had a new pair of shoes on
Erik sat on his chair.
“Thank you for the shoe sir”She said
Erik looked at her, expecting to say another sentence but she didn’t.
“That’s all?”He asked
“Um…yeah”She nodded, wondering what else he was expecting her to say.
“I clearly remember taking you out for dinner, getting you a gift and saying the words thank you to you to express my gratitude yesterday”He said
“You… want me to do the same?”
“No less”
“Um…Okay”She said “Well, since it’s my turn this time,you should be the one to choose the place you’d like to have dinner at”
“Same place we went yesterday”He said
“Really?”She asked, looking suprised
“Yeah”He nodded “it has a great view”He said.
“You ready?”Ken showed up in front of Emily and asked.
“Yeah”She nodded, packing the rest of her things in her bag before leaving with him.
