Chapter 42
“I know where they’re keeping Kiara”She said.

She raised the laptop and showed the screen to Erik.
“We can report to the cops now that we know their location. Natasha and her partner will be taken by surprise”Emily said
Erik zoomed in on Natasha’s location on the screen and a feeling of relief washed through him as he stared at it.
Lex sat on a bench in the hall,tapping his foot on the floor nervously and restlessly, muttering a few prayers in his mind.
The surgery was still ongoing and it’s been going on for more than two hours now. One of the reasons for his nervousness and restlessness.
The surgeon came out thirty minutes later and Lex stood, facing the surgeon. His heart skipping beats as he waited for the surgeon to speak.
The surgeon took off his nose mask, exhaling.
“The surgery was successful”He said.
Lex released a sigh of relief and he felt immense happiness rush through him.

Natasha walked to the briefcase on the floor and opened it, bringing out a gun from it before walking back to meet Kiara with Thomas behind her.
Kiara’s eyes widened when she saw the gun
Natasha smiled at her.
“Well, Erik is going to be sending the money in a few minutes and then our job here will be done” She said.
Kiara gritted her teeth,her teary eyes turning fiery.
The sound of the door, opening,made them all direct their gaze to the door.
A police officer came in with few other officers behind him.
“Drop your weapons”The first officer said.
A feeling of hope and relief flashed through Kiara’s eyes.
Natasha and Thomas stood dumfounded. How did the cops find out their location?
“Drop your weapons”The officer repeated, slowly moving closer to them with his hand on his gun holster “We have you surrounded already so don’t think of trying anything funny”He warned.
Natasha gritted her teeth as fury boiled inside of her. No,this was not happening. Things were definitely not ending this way.
She scoffed when she saw Erik by the door.
“I warned him not to call the cops”She gritted before turning to glance at Thomas, making eye contact with him.
He understood and swiftly moved behind Kiara, placing a knife on her neck, turning the situation into a hostage situation.
Kiara’s breath ceased as the cold knife touched her skin, pressing against it as a result of the pressure Thomas applied on it. It gave her a cut which sent a small trial of blood down her neck.
Erik clenched his fists as he watched the scene, every part of him of itching to do a thing about it but he couldn’t. He had to let the cops handle the situation.
Natasha took a few steps back to join Thomas.
“Drop your weapons”Thomas ordered.
The first officer,the one who led the cops in already had his gun in his hand and made no attempt to drop it and so did the others.
“This knife will be cutting her throat open if you don’t do as I say in the next few seconds”Thomas threatened.
“If you end up killing her, I’ll be doing the same to you also” The officer said “So you can either decide to give yourself up for arrest,or kill her and suffer the same fate”His sentence was both a warning message and an advice.
Thomas’s eyes blazed with fury and swallowed as he slowly brought down the knife, giving up with the knowledge that he had been defeated.
Kiara exhaled in relief but still had a terrified look on her face. She sighted Erik and she felt happiness rush through her that moment.
Natasha slowly brought down her gun also and they were both handcuffed immediately.
They were led out and she glared at Erik who didn’t even spare her a glance as he rushed to Kiara and began untying her.
He pulled her into a hug after he was done and broke it a few minutes later, staring at her as he slowly wiped her tears.
“I’m sorry”Kiara muttered. Just thinking about what Natasha made him go through because of her made her feel really terrible.
“It’s okay”Erik smiled at her, hugging her again.
She had no reason to be sorry and seeing her again,safe,gave him an overwhelming joy and relief. Though he still felt hurt seeing the cut on her neck and how pale her face looked.
Emily exhaled when she saw the cops bringing out Natasha and Thomas with their hands cuffed.
She left Erik’s car when she saw him come out with Kiara.
“Thank goodness you’re safe”She hugged Kiara.
“We’ll make sure they face the consequences of their actions and are justly punished” The first officer said to Erik.
Erik nodded”Thank you “He said.
The officer nodded as a response.
“How’s Daphne? Is she okay?”Kiara asked Emily.
Emily nodded with a smile. “Lex called us through your phone on our way here that her surgery was successful”
“She underwent a surgery?”Kiara asked with teary eyes
“It was successful, that’s what matters”Emily hugged her again.
Lex sat on a chair beside Daphne’s bed, staring at her sleeping face.
The doctor had told him that she would be asleep for a while and not to disturb her. Even without being told, he knew not to disturb her. She needed the rest.
He chuckled remembered how nervous he had been before and during her surgery. He knew he had a crush on her but remembering how scared he was when she had the accident and when the doctor said her surgery was a Fifty – Fifty chance made him realize that it was much more than that.
“Thanks for staying alive”He said quietly with a smile.
His smile grew wider when she opened her eyes.
“Hey”He said softly, smiling at her.
Daphne looked around the room she was in and no one needed to tell her that she was in a hospital. She held her head as she remembered going unconscious after the accident.
“Are you okay?”Lex asked, concerned.
“Mm-mm”She nodded and tried sitting up but Lex held her shoulders and she also felt a sharp pain in her stomach. She groaned.
“Are you okay?”He asked, alarmed.
“I’m fine. Just…Help me sit up”She said.
He nodded and helped her,placing a few pillows behind her.
“I’ll inform the doctor you’re awake”Lex stood and left the ward.
Daphne bit her lower lip. She didn’t expect Lex to be the first face she would see after waking up from her unconscious state but she appreciated it and it also brought a smile to her face.
Lex came back with the doctor who had a nurse behind him.
The doctor ran a few checkups on her and also asked her some questions which included if she was having slight pains in her stomach to which she affirmed.
“Well, it’s expected after the surgery but don’t hesitate to let me know if it persists”The doctor said.
“What? Surgery?” Daphne asked surprised. She had no idea she underwent a surgery. She had thought she woke up after a while of going unconscious.
The doctor nodded and went on to tell her about the surgery and the things she was expected to and not to do after having a surgery.
“As her friend you should make she sticks to everything I’ve told her”The doctor said to Lex.
“He’s not my friend”Daphne said.
“I’m not her friend”Lex shook his head.
The doctor looked at Lex with a surprised look on his face. “You’re not? I thought you were her friend since you agreed to sign those forms and also paid her hospital bills”
“I’m her boyfriend”Lex said with a smile.
Daphne turned to him with a glare.
“Oh, that’s better then. You should make sure she sticks to all of those things I told her for a quick recovery”The doctor said.
Lex nodded.
The doctor smiled at them before leaving.
“My boyfriend?”She asked with a frown “It’s not funny”
“Relax,I was just messing with you”He said, sitting down.
“You’re lucky I’m in this state or I’d have given you a kick”She said.
“You’re still being feisty in your state”He chuckled.
She stared at him.
“Why isn’t Kiara here?”She asked.
“Uh… She’ll be here. I already called her”He faked a smile. He didn’t want to tell her that Kiara was still yet to arrive after calling and telling her about Daphne’s situation hours ago,that he still couldn’t get in touch with Kiara and her whereabout was yet to be known.
Daphne smiled. “By the way, did you really pay my hospital bills?”She muttered.
He nodded.
“Thanks”She smiled.
He smiled also.
“I’ll make sure to pay you back”She nodded.
“You don’t have to”He said.
She frowned”You’re enjoying the fact that I’m owing you?”
“No, that’s not…”He paused when he heard the door open.
Kiara, Erik and Emily came in.
“Daphne”Kiara hugged her immediately “You’re okay”She smiled, trying not cry as she remembered how Natasha described Daphne’s accident.
Daphne smiled, bringing her hands to Kiara’s back.
Erik smiled.
Emily hugged Daphne next.
“Jeez,I was scared when Lex told me that your surgery was a Fifty – Fifty chance”She said
“Scared? I’m not going anywhere yet”Daphne said.
Lex and Emily chuckled.
“Why do you have a cut on your neck?”Daphne asked Kiara when she saw the cut on Kiara’s neck.
“And why is your face so pale?”She held Kiara’s hands.
Kiara kept mute.
Erik sighed.
“Are you guys hiding something from me? What’s going on?”Daphne questioned, seeing the looks on their faces.
Lex looked at them also, raising a brow. He was also curious to know why Kiara came late.
“It’s…A long story”Emily said “Actually, it’s a short one”
“Okay, I’m listening”Daphne said
“You should get some rest first. You’ll get to know about it later”Kiara said.
Erik held Kiara’s hand and she looked at him.
“You should treat your cut”He said.
“It’s just a small cut. There’s no need for that”Kiara said.
“Come on”He urged.
Lex saw the way Erik held Kiara and also the way he looked at her. He also remembered how restless Erik was when he couldn’t find Kiara the previous night or tell her whereabout.
He smiled, understanding what it meant.
Erik and Kiara left the ward and went to get her cut treated.
Minutes later,they were back in the hallway, walking back to Daphne’s ward but Kiara suddenly stopped and held Erik’s hand.
He turned to look at her.
