The first three years of their junior school was well spent it was as if God closed all the eyes of the wicked and evil students for them, they barely get into trouble maybe because they were very small and unnoticed, although few number of girls approach them to make them their school daughters but they refused
Gift nearly gave in to one of the seniors, she was the Senior prefect of the school but thank God for Rose who pursued her against given in to the senior prefect’s demand come what may, Rose also reminded her friend about what their mother told them
That was how she won Gift over, the regular councils of Rose dissuade her from having a school mother although it was against her wish because in her mind of minds, she wants a god mother just like most of her friends do
The way her friends looks and the plenty gifts they receives from their school mothers always makes Gift long to have one but because Rose is always all over her and always reminds her of her mother’s advises , so for that reason she refused to be the school daughter of the S. P with fear that Rose might tell her mother when they go back to the village for a vacation
Most a times, Gift will just pick up a quarrel with Rose for no just course especially when ever Rose stopped her from doing what she so desired to do….. Some times it might be sneaking out with friends or collecting gifts or food items from the seniors or friends
Rose is always on time to intervene and this makes Gift angry and sometimes calls Rose monitoring Lizard but Rose merrily accepted the name from her and vowed to always protect her friend no matter what
You can’t tell how time flies so fast, before you could know it, they are already in jss3 and are now called seniors by the jss2 and jss1 students who are referred to as J.J.C. Johnny Just Come.
Gift always admires the S.P so much that she sometimes imitates her both in her speech, step and the ways she carries herself about. Sometimes when Gift will imitate the S.p in Rose’s present, it will amuse Rose so much that she will laugh till tears starts rolling down from her eyes.
She will tell Gift after she catch her breath that she looks like chekeleke anytime she tries imitating the S.P, Gift will eye Rose badly and tell her that she is only jealous of her, or that she should leave it for her that the S. P is her role model.
And she would have been so perfect like her S. P if only you(pointing at Rose) Monitoring Lizard allowed me to be her school daughter!
this will also amuse Rose the more and she will start a second round of laughter.
One day, during break period, Gift, Rose and three of their friends were heading towards the canteen to buy something, then Gift sighted the S. P holding one junior student probably in jss1 on her shoulder a distance away from them, she tapped Rose, Rose, is that not the S. P?
Yes is her, and what about her? Another girlfriend of theirs by name Ogechi asked
Yah that’s the most beautiful S. P and I guess that must be her new school daughter(she smiles) Nkechi their friend said with a concerned tune
How many school daughters will she have, did she wants to make every body her school daughter? All chorused apart from Gift whose countenance have changed after seeing the S.p with the girl.
I wonder oooo! but she is the S.p so I think she is entitled to have as many school daughters as she wants as possible their friend Amaka replied, I even wished that she ask me to be her school daughter, hmmm I won’t think about it twice ooo I will just agree sharp sharp
The other girls were looking at Amaka with shocking expressions all written on their faces, Amaka was a bit shy now but she acted very fast to cover it so that others won’t notice.
Wait ooo, Why are all of you mopping at me like a munchoko, as if if she asked any of you, you won’t happily accept, see lemme tell you gals ooo, haven’t you heard or seen all her school daughters how they all looked very sharp and always beautiful, the cloths and shoes they normally wear on Sundays are always beautiful and I heard that she is the one that used to buy it for them
And they always eat yanfu-yanfu and anything they want for that matter, they don’t even face any challenges in school and don’t even work during labour period, honestly I no dey hide my own ooo, I wish I be her school pikin eeee, I for dey fresh pass like this wey I be now.
Nkechi, Ogechi and Rose burst into laughter, Rose looked at Amaka…. Cho cho chochocho are you parrot, can’t you be contented with what you have and what your parents gave you to come to school with, haba, must you be like other people, can’t you be your self in your life ee Amaka ? Hmmm ooo chukwu ekwela ooo(God forbid oo).
Make I hear jor, you are talking as if good thing no dey good for your body Amaka retorted.
I am comfortable and well contented with what I have ooo, I won’t kill my self for anything because I know that all fingers are not equal Rose replied Amaka with a tone indicating gratitude and satisfaction.
In the midst of their arguments, they didn’t notice that the S. P is almost closer to where they have been standing, it was Gift that first noticed her because all her concentrations was on her all the while the argument was going on. She greeted.. Good afternoon S. P, with a smile on her face.
The SP responded, good afternoon Gift, how are you doing? is been a while I last saw you oo, you have grown so big and beautiful too, Gift was about replying when the other girls chorused good afternoon to the S. P,
She replied all of them with a beautiful smile on her face, she then patted Gift on the shoulder and walked away with her supposed new found school daughter, the little girl was carrying a lot of goodies on her hand and no doubt that it was the SP that bought it for her.
This made Gift grew jealous of the girl and at the same time angry at her friend Rose. Turning to Rose, Gift said with anger in her voice.
Rose! you are the one that caused all this and deprived me of so many things I would have gotten from the S. P, I knew that you are jealous of me that the S. P chooses me instead of you that’s why you threatened me with telling my mother…..you this monitoring Lizard!
Rose was not shocked about her friends attitude because she has always been bitter because she stood in her way of been the Aalmighty S. P’s school daughter
She looked at Gift with a loving and sorry eyes…. I AM SORRY GIFTY, IT IS NOT MY FAULT BUT THAT’S THE ADVICE FROM HOME SO I DID WHAT I THOUGHT IS RIGHT.
Gift with angry look, she knock away Rose’s hand that was on her shoulder and screamed at Rose……. Leave me alone this monitoring Lizard, am not a kid and I know what is right and good for me, with that she hissed and walked away from her friends.
