A COMPLICATED LIFE – Episode 69

“How… How have you been doing all this while George” Kathleen asked, raising her head slowly.

“Good”

“And your son? How is he? Have you been able to find him?”

“And your daughter also, how is she?” Kathleen asked.

“They’re both fine Kathleen, both Linda and Cody,” George smiled.

“Cody?” Kathleen and Jeffrey called, raising their brows.

“I thought his name was Rudy?” Jeffrey asked and Kathleen nodded, supporting Jeffery’s question.

“Yeah, that’s what I and Georgina named him before” George paused and sighs.

“She ran away with him,” George continued.

“We all know what she did,” Kathleen said, frowning.

“Yeah, we know that but I still don’t get why you called him Cody” Jeffrey asked.

“And how were you able to find him?” Kathleen added.

“I wasn’t the one that found him, it was his sister Linda”

“She went on a trip with one of my yacht and came back with Rudy half dead”

“I was always on the yacht with my private doctor discussing about the new hospital I just built”

“So I couldn’t believe it when she walked up to me with some guards carrying Rudy’s half dead body,” George said, his voice heavy with emotion.

“At first I thought Linda was out of her mind, that she’d lost it completely”

“How could brought a unknown guy on my yacht and beg me to save him”

“I told her no at first telling the guards to threw Rudy back in the sea”

“But when I saw the tears on Linda’s face begging me to save him”

“I couldn’t refuse,” George said, his voice breaking.

“I could never turn away someone who needed my help, especially not my own daughter”

“So I told the guards to bring him onboard, and we set to work trying to save him”

“It was a long and difficult process,” George continued.

“Rudy was in bad shape, and we weren’t sure if he would make it”

“But we worked tirelessly, day and night, to save him and eventually, he started to improve”

“The doctor came to me and said, Rudy lost so much blood and he also hit his head on his way down the cliffs”

FLASHBACK, A YEAR AND HALF AGO.

GEORGE’S HOSPITAL.

“We did all we could to stop the bleeding, and we’ve done a scan on his head to see if there was any bleeding in the brain,” The doctor said, his face grave.

“But I’m afraid the prognosis isn’t good”

“What do you mean?” George asked.

“What’s wrong?”

“I’m afraid that the head injury was too severe,” The doctor said, his voice somber.

“There’s a 50/50% chance that he’ll wake or never wake up from his coma”

“There’s a 50/50% chance?” George repeated, his voice barely above a whisper.

“You mean it’s a coin toss?”

“I’m afraid so,” The doctor said, his expression grim.

“I wish I could give you more certainty, but I don’t want to give you false hope and if he wake up he might ended up having lost memories”

“You mean he might not remember his past?” George asked.

“That’s possible,” The doctor said gently.

“I can’t say for sure, but it’s a possibility”

“If he does wake up, he may need a lot of rehabilitation to get back to his old self, if that’s even possible”

“Okay” George muttered.

“Back to the blood part, the kid needs some blood real quick” The doctor said.

“Can I ask a question?” George said.

“Of course,” The doctor said, his voice still gentle.

“What is it?”

“Can I be the one to donate the blood”

“Of course,” The doctor said, a look of understanding on his face.

“If you’re a match, we’d be happy to have you donate blood for him”

“But why do you wanna be the one to donate the blood for him Mr. George?” The doctor asked.

“I have never seen you ask for something like that before”

“I don’t know either doctor, I just feel drawn towards him”

“His face and hair reminds me of a woman I once love”

“A woman you once loved?” The doctor asked, his interest piqued.

“You mean your daughter’s mother?”

“No,” George said.

“Not her mother”

“She was someone I met a long time ago, and I have never been able to forget her”

“He looked so much like her, the same eyes, the same lips, the hair and face”

“I know it sounds crazy, but I can’t get over her even though she is dead now”

“It doesn’t sound crazy,” The doctor said, his voice soothing.

“Sometimes, we can be deeply affected by people we’ve known in the past, even if we’ve only known them briefly”

“Sometimes, those connections can stay with us for a lifetime” The doctor said, choosing his words carefully as George stood up.

“Yes, you’re right, doctor,” George smiled.

“Can I ask you for a favor doctor”

“Yes, Mr. George, you can ask me anything” The doctor said.

“Can you perform a DNA test on the kid for me”

“Yes, of course,” The doctor said, nodding.

“I can certainly perform a DNA test on him, if that’s what you want”

“But may I ask why?”

George paused for a moment, considering his answer.

“I just want to know something for sure, I want to know if there’s any truth to what I’ve been thinking since we save this guy”

“I understand,” The doctor said, his voice gentle.

“I will make the arrangements for the DNA test as soon as possible”

“It will take a few days to get the results back, but I promise to let you know as soon as I have them”

“Do you have any other questions or concerns?”

“No, not right now,” George said, relief flooding through him.

“Thank you for understanding, doctor. I really appreciate it”

“Of course, Mr. George,” the doctor said, a small smile on his face.

“It’s my job to be understanding and to help my patients in any way I can”

“You’re not the first person to have these sorts of questions, and you won’t be the last” The doctor said.

“And also doctor I would love it if you keep all of this a secret from my daughter”

“I don’t want her to know about the guy’s condition because she might end up being sad,” George said.

“Sure Mr. George, she won’t know about any of this” The doctor said.

FLASHBACK END, PRESENT.

“Okay, but I still don’t get why you called him Cody,” Jeffrey asked.

“Did he lose his memory after he woke up?” Jeffrey asked and George shook his head.

“No he didn’t,” George replied.

“After the DNA test was out and it was already confirmed that he is my son”

“I wait for him to wake up and that didn’t take every long before he does”

“He woke up from coma after six months in the hospital,” George continued.

“He was still weak and frail, but he was awake and he remembered everything, right up to the moment”

“I ask him to told me about what happened to him and he did”

“He told me about how they kill Georgina in front of him, I guess we know about that”

“And how Robert promise to help him get revenge”

“What? Robert?” Kathleen and Jeffrey called in shock.

“Yes, Robert promise to help Rudy get revenge but he betrayed him”

“He killed him and threw him down the cliff thinking he was already dead but unknown to him, Rudy survived” George smiled.

“So lemme guess you’re going to help him to get his revenge” Jeffrey asked.

“Yes, he’s my son after all” George nodded smiling and Kathleen frown looking sad.

Jeffrey noticed this and said.

“You haven’t told Rudy that you’re his real father, have you?” He asked.

“Yes, I haven’t,” George replied.

“What about Linda, you didn’t tell her that Rudy and her are related and they still have two more other siblings outside” Jeffrey paused.

“That woman’s daughter and Kathleen’s son” Jeffrey said and the room became both intense and quiet.

George looked at Kathleen who was staring at her nails then looked back at Jeffery.

The room stayed quiet with both Jeffery and George staring at each other for a couple of minutes.

“Why did he have to bring this up now, I already know that I have four children” George said inwardly.

“I guess that’s the punishment for being a playboy” George thought and sighs.

“I have no……”

“Wait guys, if Robert is involved in all of this” Kathleen cut in, breaking the silence.

“Does that mean she is…..”

“Yeah, they are all involved including her, Leah” George said.

“Leah, too?” Jeffrey said, his eyes wide.

“Wow, this is really getting complicated”

“Indeed everything is truly complicated,” George said.

“So who else is involved in all of this?” Jeffrey asked.

“The old gang,” George replied.

“What? The old gang!”

“Yes, Leah is currently recruiting back the old gang”

“She already had twenty of them on her side; she is left with just two more,” George said.

“Twenty of them?” Kathleen said, her mouth hanging open.

“That’s a huge number! But wait I thought we were twenty five all together” Kathleen said.

“Think Kathleen, the three of us are their enemies now so we are up against twenty two of them” Jeffrey said.

“Twenty two against three,” Kathleen said, her voice trembling a bit.

“Those are terrible odds! We all know what they are capable of, we don’t stand a chance!” Kathleen said.

“Calm down Kathleen, we have George on our side”

“No matter the odds, I’m sure we can win,” Jeffrey said.

“I’m I right George?” Jeffrey asked.

“Yes you’re right, but we need just one more person on our side” George said.

“One more person?” Kathleen said, her eyes widening.

“But who? Who else would be willing to help us?”

“I think I have an idea,” George said, a slow smile spreading across his face.

“It’s a bit of a long shot, but I think it might just work.”

“I’m listening,” Jeffrey said, leaning forward.

“What’s your plan?”

“Well, I was thinking about Donald,” George said.

“He’s a bit of a wild card, but I think he’d be willing to help us if we explained the situation to him”

“Donald?” Kathleen asked, a look of confusion on her face.

“I know the name sounds familiar, but I can’t place it. Who is Donald?”

“Donald is a former member of the old gang,” George said.

“He left the group a few years ago after Leah and Susan kill his first son but he have recently joined them back”

“I think he’d be willing to help us take them down, if we just asked”

“But why would he agree to help us?” Jeffrey asked.

“He’s not exactly a close friend”

“I know that,” George said.

“But Donald has to help us, the only reason he decided to join the gang back is for revenge so this is his chance to get back at them,” George continued.

“If we can convince him that helping us is the best way to get what he wants, I think he’ll agree to work with us.”

“It’s a risky plan,” Jeffrey said, his brow furrowed.

“What if he doesn’t agree? Or what if he decides to betray us?”

“I think we have to take that chance,” George said.

“I know it’s risky, but I think it’s our best shot. Do you agree?”

Kathleen and Jeffrey looked at each other, their faces full of uncertainty.

Finally, Jeffrey spoke up.

“I think you’re right,” He said.

“It’s a risky plan, but I think it’s worth a shot. And if Donald does decide to help us, I think he could be a valuable ally”

Kathleen nodded slowly.

“I agree,” She said.

“If we can get him on our side, it could be the edge we need to take down the old gang”

“I’m glad you both see it my way,” George said, a smile on his face.

“So, are we all in agreement? We’re going to try to get Donald on our side?”

“We are,” Jeffrey and Kathleen said in unison.

“Great,” George said and smiled.

LEAH’S MANSION.

“I’ll do my best to bring him here, ma’am,” Luis said and walked out.

“Thanks for this new information Robert” Leah said.

“You’re welcome Leah, I didn’t know that you were looking for him” Robert said and got no response from Leah who was busy going through Cody’s file.

“But may I ask why you are looking for him?” Robert asked.

“The guy is a good fighter and he could be a valuable asset to our gang” Leah replied.

“Ohh!” Robert exclaimed.

“Cody Watson is going to be a very useful asset to us once he joins our gang, hope you’ve looked into his background for anything suspicious” Leah asked.

“Yeah sure there’s nothing suspicious about him,” Robert replied.

“But there’s one other problem”

“What is it?” She asked.

“When Cody came to our school he brought a female student along with him”

“So?” Leah asked, raising her brows.

“The name of the female student was Linda George,” Robert replied.

“What?? George?” Leah’s face widened with fear written all over it.

“Yeah,” Robert nodded.

“Are you for real Robert?”

“Yes Leah’s surname was George” Robert replied.

“It…It can’t…. can’t be him right? It can’t be him? It can’t be George”

“Don’t tell me she is related to George” Leah said as her body began to shake.

“Calm down, Leah,” Robert said.

“She is not related to George, I’ve already checked her background” Robert said.

“She is just having George as her last name like your daughter, but she is not related to him unlike your daughter who is actually related to George” Robert said.

“Yeah,” Leah paused.

“My Celine,” She smiled.
