Louis hired a private investigator to search for Charlotte in the city after she left, and they got back to him almost immediately with her location in a motel, and packed his bags ready to leave for the city.
He has been keeping her safe all these while, that’s why he has been traveling between the city and the countryside everyday which is always inconvenient but that was the only way he could protect her. Now that things has went astray, going to the city and facing the battle together seems like the right option. He paid Joy a huge sum as severance pay before leaving for the city.

He arrived at his house, and his maid, Ms. Bella welcomed him in.
“Welcome, sir. You came with your bags, does that mean you are back for good?” She asked, delightfully.
“Yes, ma’am,” he teased, and she giggled.
She has been working with him since he returned to California, he grew fond of her because she ask too many questions, and he respects her equally as an elderly woman.

“The house has been really lonely since Mr. Ethan left. When will he be back, he was always indoor, but he suddenly left without a word, and never returned,” she said, and he exhaled heavily.
“I’m sure he will return soon, he probably needs some time to himself, to protect what he needs to,” he muttered.
“I hope he returns soon. He has always been so quite that I’m always worried about him. I wonder how he is doing now,” she muttered, and Louis let out a sigh.

He left his house the following day and headed to the location where he was told Charlotte was, he waited outside the motel till she came out, and he let out a sigh of relief.
“I want you to keep an eye on her,” he instructed his driver.
“Yes, sir,”
“Ensure you keep me updated about her location every time,“
“Yes, sir,”
“Let’s see what you’re up to, Charlotte,” he muttered between his breath.

He board a cab to the hospital he works, and the driver tailed Charlotte.

He arrived at the hospital, and the chairman summoned him.
“Professor,” the chairman called, and extend his hand for a shake.
“Good morning, sir, and feel free to call me Louis, you’ve been a father figure to me since I was a child,”
“Yes, and I’m glad you choose to work in my hospital, I made a right decision by putting you in charge of the VIP’s ward,”
“I’m just doing my job, sir, working here is just temporary, sir, but I’m glad to be able to save more lives here,”
“Louis, how about accepting my offer to work here? I know it’s not worth you inheriting your family’s hospital, but your father told me you refuse to inherit it. Join me, and save more lives here, and if you’re interested, I can arrange you with my youngest daughter, my children aren’t interested in medical feild, they got bad grades anyways and they are all living thier own lives, so accept my proposal, my youngest daughter will graduate from college this year, I’ll arrange your marriage to her and give all my shares to you,” the chairman offered, and Louis chuckled.
“Thanks for your proposal…”
“But you won’t accept it, right?”
“I’m going to leave the hospital soon, I’m going to return and accept my father’s offer, it’s my birthright so why would I run away from it. I have some things to finish here, afterwards, I’ll return,”
“You can still accept my proposal, you’re getting old, you need a fine woman to settle with. My daughter is young and beautiful, she would bore you beautiful children,”
“I know, and I’m sure her husband would be lucky,”
“Let me guess, you already found a woman,” he said, and Louis smiled.
“You’re very fast for your age, sir,” Louis muttered, and they both laughed.
“I’m not that old, 60 is the new 40 now, haven’t you heard?” He said, and they both laughed.

The following day, he was in his office, he just finished a conference when his driver updated him on Charlotte’s current location, and left immediately when he confirmed that he took the bus. He got to where his driver was, and entered the vehicle when he got to the bus station. He couldn’t control himself when he saw her about do call Paulina, he got off the vehicle immediately, and pulled her into the vehicle.
Charlotte gasped when she saw Louis in the vehicle, and she let out a sigh of relief.
“I’m sorry, I scared you,”
“I just saw my daughter,”
“And what do you plan? Go to her and return to the countryside?”
“What else can I do? My daughter should know that I’m alive, and we should return to how things were before,”
“Do you think that is possible?”
“Then what do you expect me to do?” She cried.
“I told you to trust me, I asked you to wait!” He blurted.
“Paulina was right here…” she muttered in a soft sober.
“And she is doing just fine. I assured you that’s she was fine. Grace is more concerned about her election, so she has no interest in your daughter’s life. Showing yourself now will cause an outburst, you will be a threat to Grace election, and we aren’t ready for that fight,”
“I don’t care!”
“Even though you don’t care about yourself, your daughter is innocent. She is a young teenager in her prime, she is still trying to build her life, don’t make her journey complicated,”
“So what do you want me to do? I’m losing my mind here!” She yelled in tears, and he embraced her to cry on his chest.

They arrived at his house, and Ms. Bella welcomed them warmly.
“Your house is beautiful,” she complimented, and he laughed.
“I know. I’ve a thing for beautiful things,”
“Louis, what should we do now? I mean… what’s the plan for me to get daughter from Paul?”
“Charlotte, there is someone you’ve to meet first,”
“Who?”
“Your father,”
“My father? You know where he is?”
“When I returned, I got news on your father’s case, so I handed it over to the best law firm, and he has been in my care since he was released, until I found out you were alive, and he left the house afterwards when he heard about Paulina, I don’t know where he is presently, but I’ll find him. I’m sure he is somewhere around, watching Paulina from afar,”
“I saw him, I saw him before I alighted from the bus, I was searching for him in the crowd when I saw Paulina,”
“You’ve to talk to your father, Charlotte. Meet him first before you act rashly. He has been living under his shadow when he heard about your suiclde news, but he left after hearing that you were alive, and Paulina’s existence,”
“I want to meet him, I want to meet my father,” she cried, and he embraced her.
“Such a beautiful couple,” Ms. Bella said, watching them from afar.

CHAIRMAN STANFORD’S MANSION^^^

Paul was working in his study when he heard a knock on the door, before he could utter a response, the door opened and Ava walked in.
He was upset before thinking it was Grace, but his expression changed when he saw Ava instead.
“Dad, are you busy?” She asked, and he smiled.
“Never for you,”
“Thank you, dad. I was hoping if you could join mum and I in the dinning hall, it’s been a while since we had a meal together,”
“Sure, I’m glad you want to have dinner with us. I hope everything is fine at school,”
“Dad… is it bad to have dinner with mh parents?”
“Nope, I was just wondering why you suddenly wanted it,”
“Dad, there was a time I had sleepless night waiting for you to come home so we could have dinner together,”
“Yeah, you were young and cute back then, but now I bet you just want your own space. It’s kits teenage hold, when I was a teenager I prefer hanging out with my friends than being with family,”
“I’ve missed you, dad,” she said, and he smiled.
“I also missed my cute daughter,” he said, and they both smiled.

Paul joined her in the dinning hall after he freshened up, there he met Paulina, and Grace joined them almost immediately.
“Ava, it’s impressive that you want to have a meal with us, you even invited Paulina,” Grace said, pulling out a seat.
“I want us to have a meal as a family, mum. We’re families after all,”
“Families?” Paulina muttered loud enough for them to hear, and they all looked at her.
“Paulina, I know I’m suddenly acting indifferent when I h@të yoy so much, this changes nothing, I still h@të you, but that doesn’t mean we aren’t family. I just want us to have a meal together that’s all,”
The chefs served their food, and Paulina pushed the peanut butter away from her side.
“Are you also allergic to peanut?” Paul asked, and she nodded. “Your mother is also allergic to peanuts. She is the first person I knew that had an allergic reaction,” he said, and Grace cleared her throat loudly.
“Ava, what’s your take about the engagement?” Grace asked, and they all looked at her.
“Grace, we already talked about this, I’m not gonna approve that engagement,” Paul said.
“Dad, why?” Ava asked.
“What do you mean by that? You clearly don’t want it,”
“That was then, Mike and I already talked things out, and now I want to publicly announce the engagement,” Ava said, and they all looked at her including Paulina who suddenly stopped eating.
“Ava, you don’t mean it,” Grace said.
“Mike and I were together before I went to England, I broke up with him because we had some misunderstandings which made us h@të each other, but we already made up,”
“You don’t mean it, Ava,” Grace said.
“Did he also want the engagement?” Paul asked.
“He proposed the idea to his parents. He didn’t move on after we broke up, he cried on his knees for me to accept him back, but I flee to England. Instead. That’s why he loathe me for no reason, he tried to get back at me by being mean. Dad, I want the engagement now, so please… give us your blessings,”she pleaded, and he nodded.
“Since you both want it, I’ll support you with everything I can,”
“Thank you, dad. You’re the best,” she said, and Grace smiled.
“I’m glad to hear this, Ava. I’ll get the right press to make the engagement public,”
“No you shouldn’t do that,” Paul said, and they both looked at him.
“Why? Ava wants it,”
“Ava, take your time to think about it first. You’re still in high school, you don’t have to rush anything,”
“Alright, dad,”

Paulina returned to her room and sent a message to Steven who replied immediately.
💬 Her: Did Mike really cried on his knees when Ava broke up with him?*
💬Him: Yes, he did. He loved her so much and even isolated himself for a long time because of it. We thought he was going to be depressed, so Austin referred him to a therapist,* he replied, and Paulina gasped.
“So he loved her that much?” She thought, and texted back.

💬Him: *She was his first. He has always been busy with work that he never had time to date, but everything changed with Ava. He found time for her in his tight schedule, and court her for a while before she accepted him, but she eventually broke up with him leaving him broken,”

💬 Him: *I don’t know. She lost Mike that she couldn’t be with a piece of trash, that was it, and left later. Why are you suddenly curious?*
💬Her: *No reason* with that, she dropped her phone.
“Shouod I’ve trusted Mike?” She thought, and laid flat om her bed.

CHAIRMAN RUSS’S MANSION^^^

Micheal was working on his computer when he received a message from his secretary, informing him that his presence is needed in the main dinning hall.
He let out a sigh before going to freshen up wondering what his parents wanted to discuss this time.

He joined them in the dinning hall later, and they started talking about the engagement.
“The Stanford’s wants us to publicize the engagement,” Mr. Russ said, and Michael suddenly stopped eating.
“You don’t mean it, honey,” Mrs. Russ sneered, and Mr. Russ nodded all smiles.
“Congratulations, Mike, everything is falling in place. Once the Stanford’s accept the engagement, we will ensure you get married immediately after you graduate from high school,” Mr. Russ said.
“I never said I wanted it!” Micheal blurted, and they all looked at him.
“What did you just say?” Mr. Russ lashed, and Mrs. Russ tried to hide in laughters.
“I don’t want it, dad. I don’t want the engagement,”
“Are you nut?”
“You can’t force me,”
“Then resign, if you don’t want to take responsibility, you have to resign,”
“If my resignation is what it takes to end the engagement, then I quit!” He blurted, and his parents gasped.
The chef who was there to serve them extra sided dishes froze on her feet, and the tray with her fell off.
“I’m sorry, sir, I’m sorry, ma’am,” she shuddered, and bent down to clean the mess.
