IN AN UNKNOWN PLACE^^^

Charlotte sat up in the hospital bed and wanted to eat, but Louis collected it to feed her.

“I can manage on my own.” She muttered.

“You don’t have to manage while I’m here.” He said, and she chuckled.

“Louis, you didng tell me what happened! Where I’m, why I’m here, why you are here with me, everything. And my daughter…”

“Your daughter with Paul?” He asked, and she looked at him.

“How do you know that I have a child for Paul? I only mentioned my daughter, I never said Paul was the father.”

“I would answer your question one at a time, Charlotte, I’ll give you an answer in as much as you can handle it.”

“Did anything happen to my daughter?” She asked, already alarmed.

“No, I checked and she was doing just fine.”

“I’ve to go home, Louis, my daughter must be worried about me. I’ve never spent a night out before.”

“A night? Who said you’ve been here for a night?” He teased, and she looked at him.

“How king have I been here.”

“Almost a month.”

“What?!”

“You shouldn’t shout, you are still recovering.”

“Louis, what really happened to me?” She cried.

“I believe you can answer that better! You would be fine after you recover, you are just experiencing that little memory loss of that day event because it must’ve been a really traumatic event, but you will remember it all after you recover. So just be calm.”

“How do you expect me to be calm? I’ve no idea why I’m here and how my daughter is doing. How do you expect me to be calm, Louis?” She cried, and he embraced her.

“Your daughter is doing fine. I’m sure someone is looking after her. That’s all I can tell you now till you fully recover.”

“Who is looking after her?”

“Charlotte, please! You’ve to complete your treatment first.”

“I want to go home, Louis, I want to go home to complete my treatment.”

“No, you can’t do that.”

“Why can’t I?”

“Because it might be dangerous! Not for you, but for your daughter.”

“What do you mean by that? What aren’t you telling me, Louis?” She asked, gabbing him by the collar.

“Because you will act worse than this. I can’t tell you anything now until you get better. I’m leaving for now, Joy (the nurse) will look after you, I’ll be back by tomorrow.” He said, and peck her forehead before leaving.

“What are you not telling me, Louis?” She shouted, but he ignored her.

CHAIRMAN STANFORD’S MANSION^^*
^
Paulina tossed and turned on her bed when a message beeped into her phone from Sage. He has been bugging her since, and she started feeling pressure wondering what he wanted to tell her, and how he would react to what she wants to tell him as well. Sage is a good friend, and she doesn’t want her selfish decision to get rid of Ava come between their friendship.

He sent her another messages later to inform her that she was coming to pick her up so she hurried out of bed to go freshen up.
*
She hurried out to meet him when he informed her to his arrival, and he alighted from the car to open the door for her.

“Thank you.” She muttered.

“You look beautiful.”

“Stop flattering me.”

“That’s my charm.” He said winking at her, and she laughed.

“What do you want for dinner?” He asked, and she looked at him.

“Since we are going to see a movie, I e should just have some junk food.”

“How does pizza sounds?” He asked.

“Cool!” She muttered, and he chuckled.
*
They had a pack of pizza and soda before going to watch their movie.

“I forgot to ask you the movie you preferred, so I just bought tickets for the trending one. It’s about friendship, I bet the troupe isn’t that bad.” He said, and she nodded.

The drama ended, and the both of them started talking about the drama as they went to get drinks, and sat to drink.

“Sage… I’ve something to tell you.” She said, and he nodded.

“I know. I also have something to say, that’s why we agreed to meet. Should I go first, or you go first?”

“You go first.”

“I…-“. He was saying, but his ringing phone distracted him. “Gosh, it’s Clara, I’ve to receive it.”

“Sure, go ahead.” She said, and slip from her glasses of juice.

“Excuse me.” With that he excused himself.

Paulina swallowed hard watching his retreating back when her phone rang, she let out a sigh and put the phone away after checking the caller’s ID to see its Micheal.

Sage returned later, and she looked at him with a smile.

“Hope there was no problem?” She asked, and he shook his head.

“Nothing serious, she wanted me to help her wigi something. Forget about it.” He said, and she smiled.

“Ok.”

“About what was saying earlier, I’ll be a little straightforward, I hope it’s fine.”

“Go ahead, you are making me curious.” She said, and he chuckled.

“Lina, I like you.” He said, and she almost choked on her drink.

“Are you ok? Should I get you water?” He asked, worriedly.

“No, no, I’m fine. You said what?”

“I said I like you.”

“Of course, I like you too.” She blurted, and he chuckled.

He could easily tell that she understood what he meant, but just trying to turn in around.

“Lina, I’m not referring to a platonic..-“. He was saying, but she coughed loudly to stop him. “Are you sure you are fine?”

“Sage… what do I do?” She muttered, and he looked at her confused.

“What happened?” He asked, already worried.

“This is where you are? Why aren’t you answering my calls?” They heard Micheal said, joining them.

“What? What are you doing here?” Sage shouted.

“Hey, relax. This is a public place, gosh… it’s so noisy.” Micheal said.

“What are you doing here? Sneer the d@rm question!” He shouted.

“Don’t be too loud, bro. This nod between Lina and I.” Michael blurted.

“Lina, what is he talking about?” Sage asked, and they both looked at Lina who was finding it difficult to breathe.

“Lina.”

“Lina.”

They hit us hoisted and hurried to her.

“What’s wrong? What happened?” Sage asked.

“Stop asking dummy questions, and get an ambulance!” Micheal shouted.

“Yes, an ambulance. I think she is having allergic reactions!” Sage said, getting his phone.

The ambulance arrived, and they both followed her to the hospital.

The doctor run some tests on her, and confirmed it to be an allergic reaction. Micheal and Sage went to her ward later, and saw her already feeling better.

“Lina.” He called, and hurried to her bedside. “Are you ok?”

“I’m sorry, Sage.”

“Lina, the doctor said it’s an allergic reaction, do you have any allergy? What did he make you eat?” Micheal asked.

“What nonsense are you spouting? Are you insinuating that I forced her to eat something?” Sage shouted.

“Why are you feeling guilty, bro?” Micheal teased, and Sage glared at him before looking at Paulina.

“What are you allergic to?” Sage asked.

“I think there was peanut in the drink.” She muttered.

“That must’ve been my drink! There was peanut smoothie in my drink.” Sage said, running his fingers through his hair.

“Gosh! Who drink peanut juice these days?” Micheal said, and Sage glared at him.

“I’m so sorry, Lina. I should have known that you were allergic to peanut, no, I should have carefully dropped the drinks on the table, no I me..-“. Sage was saying, but Paulina held his hand to stop him from talking.

“It’s not your fault, Sage, I was the one who picked the wrong glass.” She muttered, and Sage squeezed her hand.

“You should be more careful in the future.” Micheal said, and Paulina looked at him.

“You. What are you doing here?” She asked, and Micheal bite his bottom lip nervously.

“Why aren’t you answering her? She just asked you a simple question.” Sage blurted.

“You didn’t reply my messages, and ignored my calls. So I was worried.”

“Why would you be worried about her?” Sage asked.

“Mind your own business!” Micheal blurted.

“Why were you worried, Mike?” She muttered.

“Because I was unable to reach you, so got worried.”

“Then how do you know where I was?” She asked, and started biting his lip again.

“Are you dumb?” Sage blurted.

“I asked someone to track your number, so I could get your location.” He shuddered, and they both looked at him.

“What?!” Paulina and Sage shouted.

“I’m sorry, I was just worried.” He muttered, and Sage exhaled heavily

“What’s your stress? Why are you worried?” Sage yelled.

“Just leave, Mike. We will talk at school tomorrow.” Paulina said, and they both looked at him.

“Lina, I…”. Micheal shuddered.

“I said leave for now, or I’ll never talk to you again.” She blurted.

“Fine, I’ll leave. See you at school tomorrow.” Micheal said, and glared at Sage before leaving.

“What do you have to discuss with him, and besides why is he stalking you? What aren’t you telling me, Lina?”

“Sage, that’s what I wanted to tell you.”

“What nonsense? If you are going to tell me about your friendship with him, I don’t even want to hear it. Till we find out who locked you up that day, I don’t want to hear anything.”

“Sage, about that. I just discovered that I wasn’t locked up, the door got stuck and I should have pulled harder.”

“Who told you that? Was it him?”

“Sage, he was telling the truth. He even sent his secretary there to make a video so I would believe him.”

“What? He went through that length? What’s that guys deal?”

“Sage, I’m not in the right shape for your nagging.” She muttered.

“I’m sorry, Lina, I was just concerned. Guys like Mike can’t be trusted.”

“I know. This ward is really comfortable. It’s a VIP’s ward, right?” She asked hoping that changes the topic.

“Yeah, but you shouldn’t feel comfortable. The doctor said you can be discharged, do you want to rest here or go home?”

“I should go home. I’ve to be go to school tomorrow.”

“I’m sorry again for what happened.”

“It’s not your fault, Sage. It really wasn’t.” She said, and he nodded.

“I’ll go get the doctor clear you, so you can go home.” He said, and she nodded before he left.

“How can I tell him about my agreement with Mike?” She grumbled, and laid flat on the bed in thoughts.
*
She was discharged later, and Sage drove her back home.

“Have enough rest. See you at school tomorrow.” He said, and she nodded.

“Thanks for the ride.” With that she gets down from the car.

She opened the main door, and was surprised to see a man (Mr. Packard) by the entrance, also about to go out.

“Who are you?” Mr. Packard asked, and Paulina looked at him, wondering who he was as well.

IN AN UNKNOWN PLACE^^^
^
Charlotte think of a way to leave the place, Louis wasn’t willing to tell her anything, and she can’t trust him completely even if he was her friend. Paul and Grace betrayed her, so she can’t vouch that he wouldn’t do the same. He has been away for years, and suddenly returned, and knew everything about her made her even more scaled. She removed the IV drip being passed to her, and wobbled on her feet out.

“Ma’am, I’m sorry, but you can’t move around yet.” Joy said, rushing to her.

“Louis told me to get some exercise, even if it’s just walking for a bit.” She lied.

“But you aren’t fit for an exercise yet. Your surgical stitches are still fresh, and could open if you stress yourself.”

“I won’t, my body felt stiff all of a sudden, so I think I need to walk a little.”

“Ma’am, I’m sorry, but you can’t.”

“Even if my body felt glued to the bed?” She blurted.

“I’m sorry… alright, you can but I’ll have to install back the drip, you shouldn’t have removed it. Afterwards, we could stroll around for a bit.”

“Alright, thanks.”
*
The nurse installed back the drip, and trailed behind her as they walk around together, while Charlotte started thinking of a way to be separated from her.

“I’m feeling thirsty, can I get some water?” She asked.

“Of course, I’ll escort you back to get you water.” Joy said.

“I’m too weak and thirsty, I’ll just sit here and wait for you.” She said, and sat down on a seat by the hallway.

“Ok, I’ll be right back.” Joy said, and hurried away.

Charlotte removed the drip, and tried to run but felt too weak, but she strained herself to leave before Joy retuned. The house was big and kinda confusing.

She found her was out, and was lucky to find an empty taxi so she stopped it immediately, and entered while the taxi driver drove off.

“Where to, ma’am?” He asked when they were already few miles away.

“I… I…”. She shuddered, and started feeling pains from the surgical stitches.

“Ma’am, are you ok?” He asked.

“I…”. She shuddered, and the driver stopped the car immediately.

“Are you alright?” He asked worriedly, and she felt too weak to open her mouth.

The driver went to her seat to look at her, and started to panic.

“Goodness, what’s this? I should call an ambulance.” He said, and went to get his onine when a call pulled over behind him.

“Charlotte.” Louis shouted, and hurried out of his car.

“Sir, do you know her?” The taxi driver asked.

“Yes, she is my patient.” He said, and showed the taxi driver his ID card.

“Oh, please take her.”

“Charlotte.” He called, but she already passed out.

<<<<<<YEARS AGO>>>>>>>
^
Charlotte opened her eyes, and everywhere was blurry for a while, she was forced to close it back and opened it later, and it was a little clearer.

“Oh, my. You are awake, Paulina.” An aged woman said, rushing towards her.

“Who are you? And why am I here?” She asked in fear, sitting up from the bed.

“Don’t be scared of me.” The aged woman said, and tears flowed freely from her face.

Charlotte looked at the woman who was in tears, and felt the urge to comfort her. She held back for a moment, but she couldn’t bear to watch the woman cry, so she embraced her.

After the woman calmed down, she told her how she saved her from the ocean, which reminded her of her long lost daughter, Paulina, who drown the ocean, and was never found.

“I’ve been waiting here all these years for my daughter to return.” The granny cried, and Charlotte embraced her.

“She is back granny, from now henceforth, I’ll be your daughter and we could both live here together while we wait for Paulina.” Charlotte said, and the granny looked at her.

“My daughter.” The granny cried, and embraced her.

Charlotte made up her mind at that moment to start a new life there with her daughter. Ending a precious life that someone was yearning for was a really careless decision, and she made up her mind to live the best life she could with the old woman, and raise her child the best way she can leaving everything behind – her father, and Paul.
