Ava paced around in her suite at school, and her friend’s couldn’t stop sighing – Lia and Alicia.

The door suddenly slugs open, and Lia and Alicia screamed at the sight of Rae.

“My baby.” Lia shouted, and went to embrace her.

“My love”.Alicia added, and joined in the embrace while Ava stared at them disgusted.

“Is your suspension over?” Ava blurted, and they all looked at her.

“I know you didn’t miss me, you probably got a lot of things on your mind, but I’m glad to be back.” Rae said, and Ava chuckled before they embraced each other.

They all went to sit later, and they engaged on random conversations.

“Bae, is your suspension really over?” Alicia asked.

“Girls, now that we are a complete squad again, let’s go and bring down the enemies.” Lia said.

“Relax, babe. We need a plan to do that.” Alicia said, and they all looked at Ava who smirked like she got a plan.

“Seems like you got something, girl.” Lia muttered, and Ava chuckled

“Split it, girl.” They all giggled.

“Lia, you’ll be the one to pull the string.” Ava said, and Lia smiled already interested.

“Anything, girl.” Lia said.

“What have the school papers been up to lately?” Ava asked, and they all looked at her wondering where she was heading.

“I’m not sure. They’ve just been there.” Lia muttered.

“They have? Aren’t you the leader?”

“Gosh, the assistant leader, Naomi, or whether she is called is too capable for my liking, she has been the one doing all the stuffs. She ought to be journalist that she dreamt of. So upsetting.”

“Now, it’s time you take back your place with a mind blowing headline that will keep everyone on their toes.” Ava said.

“Bring it on, babe.” Lia said, already excited.

“There is something about that peasant that we don’t know, which I’m sure the whole school would be excited about.” Ava said.

“What?”

“Miss special biography. I’m certain everyone would be interested to find out the biography of our infamous Miss special.”

“What do you know, babe?” Alicia asked.

“Babe, don’t keep us hanging.” Rae said, and Ava smiled.

“I’ll make sure I get rid of you, Paulina, no matter what!” Ava thought, and a sly grin spread across her face as an evil smirk formed on her lips.

IN AN UNKNOWN PLACE^^^
^
Charlotte opened her eyes, and saw Louis, she shut back her eyes immediately in embarrassment, as she remembered what happened before she passed out.

“I know you are awake, I saw you open your eyes. You can’t avoid me forever.” Louis said, and she managed to open her eyes. “I won’t scold you, but I’ll give you a chance to explain why you act carelessly like that.” He muttered, and she tried to seat up, but he was fast to raise the bed instead.

“I’m so sorry, Louis.”

“That’s not what I want to hear from you.”

“I don’t just know who to trust.” She muttered, and bowed her head.

“Who to trust? Even me? Who to trust?”

“I’m really sorry, Louis, a lot of things happened when you were away.” She muttered.

“I know.”

“Exactly! How come you knew a lot of things when you’ve been away all these years?”

“I’m sorry I returned late.”

“That’s not the point here.”

“I returned to California five years ago.”

“It has been that long?”

“Yeah. I would’ve returned earlier for my college degree but my father refused. He didn’t want me to study in California, he sent me to Harvard instead. Although, I wasn’t stuck there, I wanted to transfer but I was threatened with so many things. A lot of things happened, Charlotte, a lot of things. And I could only return 5 years ago, and found you now.”

“I could have imagined. You promised to return, but instead you went out of reach.”

“Dad replaced my phone. He figured out that continuous communication with my friends in California will make me wanna return. I was helpless.”

“Years have passed, Louis. We’ve grown from those children, and a lot of things have happened as well, but your explanation didn’t still clarify how you knew everything.”

“When I returned, I paid Paul a visit.”

“You visited Paul? Did he tell him everything?” She asked, wondering how he can get those informations from Paul when he also knows nothing.

He didn’t, that was just the start.” He muttered.

FLASHBACK to 5 years ago***
*
Louis pulled over at Paul’s house. When he arrived in California, he saw the news about Charlotte’s family and her alleged suicide, but he refused to believe them all, he believed that Paul and Grace could know better.

He was able to get Paul’s direct contact from a friend, so he called ahead to fix a date for his visit.
*
He entered the large living room, and felt someone embrace him from behind.

“Grace.” He called, and released to look at her.

“My God, Louis, I couldn’t believe it when Paul said you were back, I needed that hug to confirm that it’s truly you.” She said, and he embraced her properly.

“You are still as silly as ever, Grace.”

“Right back at you!” She blurted, and they both laughed.

“Look who we have here.” Paul said joining them, and they exchanged the friendly gestures they are fond of.

“I’ve missed this, man.” Louis said, and they all laughed. “I hope it’s not coming late, congratulations on your wedding.” He said, and they both smiled.

“It’s late, so you should make up for it.” Grace whined.

“What of Charlotte?” He asked, and they both looked at him.

“She is dead.” Grace blurted.

“Was it true? The suicide and everything?”

“Louis, I don’t know about you, but I wasn’t surprised when the secret behind are family was revealed. I mean, her father was a little scary the first time I saw him. He was like a gangster. He simply gave her a ride to school, and had so many bodyguards.” Grace said.

“That shouldn’t have warrant suicide. Why did Charlotte committed suicide?”

“I wish we could know, but she is gone now. It could only be because of her family’s demise. Just think about it, all her family’s wealth were gone, her grandfather committed suicide at the spot, and her father who always treats her like a princess got imprisoned for life. That was the best option for her.”

“You don’t have to be blunt, Grace. Charlotte was our friend, and I expected you two should be there for her even after everything.”

“We stopped being friends at some point, we also a lost contact and merely met in college. Not really close, tho.”

“Is that your justification?”

“Louis, blaming ourselves won’t bring her back. She is gone, and we have all moved on.”

“Why are you so quiet, Paul?” Louis asked Paul who have been quiet since they started that conversation.

“I… I… I mean, Grace is right, talking about it is making me feel gully. I mean, I should’ve been able to protect her somehow.” Paul shuddered, and Louis shook his head.

“Paul is right Louis having this conversation will only make us feel guilty, nothing would change. Since you are back, we could return to how it was before, it was just the three of us before Charlotte came.” Grace said.

“It’s that easy for you to say, because you got married during that period.” Louis said, and they both looked at him.

“What do you mean?” Grace asked

“I saw it, you got married a month before Charlotte incidence. What did two did to her as a friend? Did you abandoned her?”

“Louis, what are you implying? Our parents made all the arrangements, would we have adjourned it because our friend was struggling with her family’s problems?” Grace blurted, already angry.

“Did you abandoned Charlotte or not? That was the question.”

“Louis, I know you are hurt because of what happened to Charlotte, we could understand, we were hurt as well. Charlotte was also our friend, but we’ve moved on, discussing this now is like opening our wound that already healed.” Grace said.

“Is that all this conversation meant to you?”

“It was all my fault.” Paul muttered, and they both looked at him.

“What are you saying, Paul? Nothing was your fault, there was nothing we co…-“. Grace was saying, but Paul cut in.

“…- Charlotte and I were in a relationship before I married Grace.” Paul said, and Grace looked away in embarrassment.

“What?” Louis blurted.

“Our family arranged everything, they didn’t care about my relationship with Charlotte and I couldn’t tell her before we I married Grace. I couldn’t even pay her a visit at the hospital.” Paul muttered, and sniffed in tears.

“It wasn’t your fault that we got married. Don’t blame yourself.” Grace said.

“Is that all that matters to you? You speak like you’d all you could as a friend for her, but you clearly did nothing.” Louis blurted, and stood up.

“What do you know, Louis?” Grace yelled, and stood up as well glaring at him. “You left years ago, and only returned now. You think that everything will remain the way you left it?”

“I see… you didn’t feel remorseful at all. I should have known, you’ve always been greedy and selfish, even when you were a kid.”

“How dare you?” She shouted, and slapped him.

“Grace.” Paul called.

“Leave, get out of my house. If you cared about your dear friend so much, you shouod have returned earlier. We were all doing fine before Charlotte came, and the both of you divert your attention to her suddenly ignoring me, why… because she was cute? Such a lame word to say. And now you retuned to blame her d£ath on me? Did I kllled her? Did I made her family a criminal? Was it my fault that I got married? Don’t blame anyone for what happened to Charlotte, it was all her fate. And don’t blame me for not being remorseful, because I never considered her as a friend.” With that Grace left, leaving them in shock.

“Louis, I’m really sorry about that.”

“About what exactly? The slap? Or what happened to Charlotte?”

“Everything! I wish I could protect her, but there was nothing I could do.”

“No, Paul. You didn’t even try to do anything! It was a nice reunion..” With that, Louis left.

FLASHBACK ENDS***
*
Louis conclude, and Charlotte let out a sigh.

“So, how do you know I was alive?” She asked.

“There was nothing I could do after I left there years ago, but I didn’t still want to give up. Paul mentioned that you were hospitalized, so I went to the hospital to get your medical records, there I saw that you were pregnant, and I instantly knew it was for Paul. I requested for details regarding the suicide from the police in charge, and confirmed that the body wasn’t found, so I held on to the tinny winky hope that you might be alive. With my mind made up, I sent private investigators to all possible places that the water might float to, and here we are today.” He said, and tears formed in her eyes.

She might’ve met Paul first, but she became closer to Louis, he had always been her irreplaceable friend.

“Thank you for everything, Louis. But how did I end up here?”

“I sent out your medical records to selected hospitals around the location I t think you might be. When you got involved in the accident, luckily the doctor in charge was a friend of mine from college, so he called me instantly when he confirmed your record.”

“I was involved in an accident?”

“Charlotte, I didn’t tell you this so you can worry or think about what you can’t remember. You’ve to focus on recovering, that way you can find an answer yourself. Your daughter is safe, don’t worry about her. Please Charlotte, I want you to see me as that childhood friend that you trusted completely, and always relied on.” He said, and she nodded.

For once, after everything that she has been through, she decided to trust someone again.

“I’ll make sure to recover swiftly, to be able to return to my child, and for you to be at peace.” She said, and he smiled.

“Thank you, Charlotte.” He muttered, and kissed her fingers.

HOLLAND HIGH ^^^
^
During recess at holland high school, the students started talking about the content of the free newspaper. Paulina didn’t get the paper so she was oblivious to whatever they reed there.

She carried her bag, heading to the regular students cafeteria where Sage and Sophia wanted to meet. Thankfully, Michael and his friends weren’t in class so she had some breathing space, and didn’t have to run out of the class.

She stepped out of the elevator, and was surrounded by a bunch of students. She looked wondering what Ava plotted against her this time, and began to hope for an escape.

“Can you kindly pave way.” She muttered, and a girl from the supreme class who seems like the leader walked up to her.

“Too much pride from a daughter of a wh0re.” The girl blurted, and Paulina face turned in furry.

“What did you just say?” She asked, staring directly at the girl.

“You are a lowly daughter of a peasant’s mistress Another girl shouted, and threw the newspaper with her at Paulina.

The students started cursing, and throwing newspapers at her leaving her helpless – there was no way she could stand up to a group when she was barely able to handle one person.

“Stop this. Lina, Lina, are you ok?” Sage shouted, trying to find his way to meet her, but the students didn’t pave way.

“What’s going on here?” Micheal shouted angrily, and they all stoped immediately, paving way for him and his friends.

Sage took advantage of that, and rushed to Paulina who was already in tears.

“How dare you lay a hand on her? Didn’t I make myself clear enough?” Micheal shouted.

“Mike, do you even know the identity of your little miss special?” The leader blurted.

“No one knows Paulina better than I do, and that news is either about someone else, or it’s false.” He said, and Paulina looked at him.

“What do you even know about her? How sure are you that whatever you knew about her is real?” The leader blurted again.

Micheal ignored her question, and went to hold Paulina’s hand, helping her up.

“Because she is my girl. She is my girlfriend so I know her better than any of you.” He muttered, leaving them in stunned silence.
