CHAIRMAN STANFORD’S MANSION^^^
^
Paul woke up when his phone beeped from a message from Grace. He exhaled heavily, wondering why she sent him a message. He opened the message and was shocked by its contempt. In it, she sent the address of her current location, and tell him to come get them if he really won’t abandon them.
“What’s this?” He muttered, and put the phone away.
He went to his room to freshen up heading out, when Paulina walked up to him.
“Good morning, dad,”
“I hope you slept well?”
“Dad, can you give me a ride to school?” She requested, and he looked at her.
“A ride? I wish I could, but I’m in a hurry now,”
“Then who will take me to school?”
“What happened to Don?”
“His brother got into an accident, and needed surgery, his presence is needed as the guardian,”
“And he left without informing me?”
“It was urgent, and I gave him permission,”
“Ok. I’ll call my secretary to give you a ride,” he said, but she held his hand.
“I can only be safe with you, dad. I only trust you and Don,”
“Paulina…”
“You must have been busy that day, but you rushed to school for Ava,”
“Are you jealous of your sister?”
“She is not my sister, and I’m not jealous of her. I’m just upset. Even when I’m your biological daughter, I have to live like this because you didn’t find me sooner, and I have to watch you pay all attention to Ava because you watch her grow up, and loved her very much. Who am I to compete with her?”
“You don’t have do compete with her,”
“I know. I know I don’t have to, but why do I feel like it’s needed,”
“I’ll give you a ride, let’s talk more on our way,” he said, and she nodded.
*
Paul drove off in silence for a while, and he broke the silence after driving few blocks away from home.
“I’m sorry, Lina,” he muttered, and she looked at him.
“About what?”
“I was a c0ward. I didn’t know I was hurting you by paying so much attention to Ava,”
“I know you can’t abandon her, and I’ll always have to live as the hidden illegitimate daughter, so I understand,”
“You must be really upset,”
“It’s hard enough to think that you abandoned my mother who was your childhood friend because of her family’s crisis to marry Ms. Grace who was carrying another’s man baby in order to save your company, but I tried to understand. You had no choice, you’ve to save your company, so you had no choice than to abandon mum even though she was pregnant, you abandoned her and drive her to sulcide,”
“Paulina, there is more to the story,”
“I’m not holding grudges for mum. I won’t hate you because of that, but I’m enraged at the thought that I will have to live this way for the rest of my life while you protect Ava and her mother. You couldn’t even protect my own mother,” she muttered, sobbing silently.
Paul clenched his fist before holding her hand.
“I know I have failed a lot, and you are right. You don’t have to live this way, you are biological daughter, so you shouldn’t live in hidden. It might be too late, Paulina, but I’ll make sure to set things right,” he assured, and she nodded in tears.
*
Paul dropped Paulina off at school, and returned home. After thinking for a while, he called his secretary who arrived in less than 30 minutes.
“I want you to contact my lawyer, ask him to prepare divorce papers for me as soon as possible,”
“Sir, divorce? You are going to divorce your wife?”
“It’s not too late to set things right,”
“How about the press conference?”
“Grace left home with Ava, so I’ll have to attend to that alone. Bring the divorce papers to me first, I should sign it before sending it to Grace,”
“Yes, sir,”
“You made this choice, Grace, and it’s high time I set things right,” he muttered.
*
His secetary brought the divorce paper, and he signed his own part before writing a letter to Grace.
📝*Since you left first with Ava without consulting me, then let’s settle this without hurting anyone. Let’s end this, Grace. I never wanted this from the start, so this is the best way to call it quit. I’ll give you half of my asset, leave the country with Ava, and start a new life. As far as I’m concerned, Ava will forever remain my daughter, and you will forever be my friend, my best friend.*
He kept the letter along with the divorce paper in a file, and gave his secretary the address it should be delivered to.
Few hours later, he received a call from Grace, and he exhaled heavily before picking up.
.
📲*Divorce? How can you divorce me Paul? You said you aren’t going to abandon Ava, so what are you doing now?*
📞*I am not abandoning anyone, I’m just setting things right. Just give it a rest already, if you keep acting this way, Ava will continue to get hurt,*
📲*what about me? I’m hurting now because of you, don’t you even care about me?*
📞*you also never cared about me. If you cared, you won’t have made me abandon Charlotte. Paulina is hurting too, so let’s stop hurting the kids,*
📲*Paulina? Charlotte? Do you plan to abandon Ava and I, then return to Charlotte? Was that your agreement with her? Was that the reason you kept your meeting with her a secret?*
📞*you knew Charlotte was alive?*
📲*that’s not important now, Paul you are mine!We are married, we took a vow, you won’t leave me Paul. I’ll never sign the divorce papers, I’ll never lose to Charlotte. And Paulina, she will forever be an illegitimate,”
📞*enough, already! How many more people have to get hurt because of this? Isn’t it enough that we hurt Charlotte in the past, must we hurt Paulina too?*
📲*then she shouldn’t have been born! She and her mother should have just dled years ago,*
📞*i had enough. I might have failed to protect Charlotte, but I refuse to hurt my daughter. If you won’t sign the divorce paper, then I’ll file a divorce lawsuit against you,*
📲how could you do this to me Paul? You know who I’m, I’m Grace Packard, I won’t let you do this to me!*
📞*then what are you going to do? Are you going to run to your father again? I bet you can’t, you already abandoned him. Sign the papers quietly, and I’ll give you half of my asset. Let’s stop hurting the kids. Paulina and Ava are both innocent,* with that, he dropped the call.
.
His secretary reminded him about the press conference, and he left the house heading to the location.
*
“I won’t answer any questions asides from what is necessary. Firstly, I want to inform everyone that my wife, Grace Stanford, will be stepping down as a mayor candidate,” he stated, followed by an uproar from the reporters, and many more questions followed. “That’s it about the mayor issue, and as for my daughter Ava Stanford, I would appreciate it if you all don’t interfere to my family affair, and anyone spreading any sort of rumor will face the legal team of First Group,” with that, he intend to leave.
“Chairman Stanford, is it true that you also have an illegitimate daughter, and that’s why you accepted your wife ba$tard as well?” A reporter asked.
“I want you to sue him for spreading false rumor, and every other charges that might apply to this,” Paul said to the head to his legal team before leaving.
*
He returned home, and returned Grace’s call, he saw several missed calls from her.
..
📲* I never said I was going to step down,*
📞*that’s the only way to get the reporters off our case. Your range already hit the bottom, there is no way you can win the election,*
📲*since you made that decision already, why don’t we go back to how it used to be before I became a mayor candidate? I’ll go abroad with Ava until everything dles down. We used to be a happy family, Paul,*
📞*we used to be good friends, Grace, best friends. You are right, we should return to that. So sign the divorce papers,*
📲*Never! I’ll never divorce you Paul!*
📞*do your worse. We would have ended this quietly,*
📲*Paul, I know you are always intimidated by dad, I already abandoned him. Let’s give our family another chance. I promise to be good to Paulina. Please, don’t leave me…*
📞*its already too late, Grace. Let’s end this now,*
📲*what about me? What will happen to me? I might appear strong, but you know I’m very timid, I can’t do anything without dad, and I already abandoned him. You are all I have left Paul…*
📞*no, you still have Ava, and you have me too as a friend,” with that, he dropped the call.
.
He put away his phone and exhaled heavily.
“This is the right thing, Paul,” he muttered, trying to reassure himself.
A call came through from Grace again, and he picked it up already upset.
.
📞*Grace, will you give it a rest!*
📲*I already took six pills… the normal dosage is one per day, but I took six, I’m taking another now that makes it seven, now eight,*
📞*Grace, what are you talking about? Are you drunk?*
📲*I heard that if I take overdose of my insomnia medication… it could be attempted sulcide,*
📞*Grace, what are you getting at? Don’t try anything silly,”
📲*it’s already late Paul… I swallowed 20… I can’t live without you Paul. I abandoned dad… I can’t be the mayor, and now I have to leave you? I can’t Paul…”
📞*get your tact together! I’m coming there right away!*
📲*I should leave a message to dad,*
📞*Grace, stop it already!* he shouted, and dropped the call before calling his secretary.
*
His secretary drove him to the abandoned house, and he met the place crowed.
“Are we at the right place?” He asked his secretary
“Yes, sir. Madam received your message directly from me at this house,”
“What happened here?” He managed to ask one of the people around.
“There was a fire. We never knew people were even in,” the person replied.
“What fire? What was the cause of the fire?”
“The electricity must be faulty. The fire workers confirmed that it started from an electric spark, and spread because of the fuel stored inside,”
“What?”
“It has been three months since I last saw someone enter this place. Who stores fuel in his house?”
“What? Fire… Grace, Ava…” he shuddered, and almost broke down but his secretary was quick to hold him.
“Were there any victims?” The secretary asked.
“Yes. There was a mother and her child. I don’t even know when they moved in. They didn’t look like they were from here,”
“Where are they?” Paul asked.
“They were rushed to the hospital,”
“Sir, I already received an update,” the secretary said.
“Get in the car,” Paul said, and rushed back to his car.
👤Who is he?”
👤”Is he her husband?”

IN AN UNKNOWN PLACE^^^
^
Mr. Packard pulled over at one of his guesthouse out of town. When he heard of Charlotte resurrection, he assumed that she would be the best bait to get her father to be quiet, rather than using Paulina. He asked lord shark to get her for him, and they decide on using one of his private guesthouse to avoid obstacles like the last time. Getting Mr. Ethan was easy for him after abducting Charlotte, but Mr. Ethan refuse to let go of his other evidence unless he confirmed that Mr. Packard was truly the one who held his daughter hostage.
“Sir, are you sure about this?” Mr. Ken asked.
“There is nothing to lose. I can flaunt to that Flood that he can never win me, and I’ll also witness the resurrection myself. That girl literally dled twice,” he said, and chuckled.
“What if it’s a trap?”
“What trap? In my house? Who could have set it? The Flood? When his daughter is in danger? He is obviously shaken now. I just have to get him to remain quiet. Enough talking,” with that, he went in.
*
He was entered the building, and one of lord shark’s men escort him to where Charlotte was —there were just two men watching her, and she was tied down to a chair, with her mouth sealed.
“Put that Flood on the phone, let him watch the way I deal with his daughter and beg for mercy,” he said evilly, and Charlotte groaned in fear.
One of the men dialed a number, and within few minutes, they were surrounded by police officers in company of a prosecutor Donald, and Mr. Packard eyes widened in shock.
“I believe this is enough evidence to lock you up for good, Mr. Politician,” Mr. Donald said.
“You… you all set me up,” he muttered, in defeat.
“Take the criminals away!”
“That gangster… how could betray me…” he grumbled, as the policemen handcuffed him, and escort him out.
“Handle him with honor, he was a former minister, and also the father of the mayor candidate that stepped down,” Mr. Donald teased.
*
Mr. Packard was taken to the prosecutor’s office, and his attorney joined him almost immediately, in company of Mr. Ken.
“Sir , there is a bad news,” Mr. Ken said.
“What could be bad than this?” He grumbled.
“There is still a way out, sir. We can pin it all on the gangsters,” his attorney said.
“That’s good to hear. What’s the news?”
“Ms. Grace is d£ad,”
“What?” He shouted, and stood up immediately. He remembered the last message she sent to him. “My daughter… Grace… I really failed, I really failed…” he muttered, and a drop of tears slid down his face.
