Next morning at the Palace Grounds the morning sun shone through Damianβs window, but he hadnβt slept much.
He sat on the edge of his bed, staring at the floor, still thinking about the night before.
That girl.
Her voice.
The way she stood there in the rain.
He hadnβt even seen her face clearly, yet something about her stayed in his mind, she was calm but strong, scared but brave.
He rubbed his temples and sighed. βWhatβs wrong with me?β
Kyle walked in without knocking, holding a cup of coffee. βYouβre awake early didnβt think youβd come back at all after last night.β
Damian gave him a tired look. βYou talk too much in the morning.β
Kyle grinned. βStill thinking about the royal bride contest?β
Damian groaned. βDonβt start.β
βOh, come on,β Kyle teased, leaning against the doorframe. βAll the girls in the kingdom will be fighting for your hand. You should be happy youβll finally have fans who arenβt just gossiping about your fights.β
βMaybe I should sign you up instead,β Damian shot back dryly. βSince you seem so excited about it.β
Kyle laughed. βPlease.Iβm not the one the king is forcing into marriage I’m just your personal guard and I just get to watch the show.β
Damian shook his head, standing up. βWell, Iβm not interested in any of it let them fight I wonβt play along.β
Kyleβs smile faded slightly. βYou canβt ignore it forever.β
Damian didnβt answer.
He walked past him and out to the balcony, staring at the wide palace garden below.
His mind drifted again
Not to the crown
Not to his father
But to that girl in the rain.
βWho was she?β he muttered under his breath.
[Amari Apartment]
Liora sat by the window, sipping her tea.
The rain from last night had left the air cool and fresh.
Her mother, Mrs. Maria, walked in. βYou didnβt sleep either, did you?β
Liora smiled weakly. βNot really.β
Mrs. Maria gave her a curious look. βSomething on your mind?β
Liora hesitated, then said softly, βLast nightβ¦ someone helped me,a man he didnβt say much, and I didnβt even see his face. But he came at the right time.β
Her motherβs eyes widened. βYou went out that late?β
βI just needed to think,β Liora said quickly. βI didnβt expect to meet anyone.β
Mrs. Maria sighed in worry. βPromise me you wonβt walk around alone again, Liora.β
βI promise,β Liora whispered.
But as she looked out the window again, she couldnβt help but think of him.
The stranger who stepped out of the dark to protect her.
Who was he?
And why did she feel like sheβd see him again someday?
She smiled faintly, shaking the thought away and turned back to her breakfast.
Then Julian joined them for breakfast and they all ate silently.
[Royal Heights Academy]
The school courtyard buzzed with life that morning.
Students in neat uniforms filled the walkways some laughing, others rushing to class.
A sleek black car stopped at the school gate.
Princess Dahlia stepped out gracefully, her best friend princess mirab following behind.
βUgh, I forgot how noisy this place gets in the morning i wouldn’t have come if not for you who mentioned that’s i should see you off,β Mirabel muttered, fixing her hair.
Dahlia smiled faintly. βItβs better than palace silence.β
Their classmates bowed slightly as she passed, whispering among themselves.
βSheβs even prettier in person.β
βDo you think sheβs really joining the art club this term?β
Dahlia ignored the whispers, walking straight ahead calm, confident, her head held high.
At the same time, a silver bike rolled into the school compound.
It was Julian.
He parked near the tree, swinging his bag over his shoulder, earbuds still in his ears.
He looked tired but focused, the morning sun glinting off his hair.
As he walked toward the building, a group of students greeted him.
βHey, Julian!β
βTop student, morning!β
He gave a small nod in return but didnβt stop he already saw Leo standing afar.
He wasnβt in the mood for chatter.
Then as fate would have it he and Dahlia crossed paths near the library steps.
Mirabel nudged Dahlia playfully. βThatβs him, right? The art class genius you were curious about?β
Dahlia blinked, a little caught off guard. βWaitβ¦ him?β
Julian walked past them without a glance, eyes straight ahead.
Something in his calm, serious face made Dahliaβs curiosity rise even more.
βExcuse me!β she called out before she could stop herself.
Julian stopped and turned slightly, one earbud still in. βYes?β
There was a short silence.
Dahlia cleared her throat. βYouβre Julian, right? The art student everyone keeps talking about?β
He looked at her for a second, his tone sharp but polite. βDepends whoβs asking.β
Mirabel frowned. βWhat kind of answer is that?β
Julian gave a small shrug. βThe kind that saves time Iβve got class.β
He started walking away again.
Dahlia blinked, stunned.
No one ever spoke to her like that.
βWait,β she said quickly. βYou could at least be polite I was just trying to talk.β
Julian stopped once more but didnβt turn around.
His voice was calm but distant.
βPoliteness doesnβt mean wasting words, Princess.β
And then he walked off, disappearing into the hall.
Mirabel gasped softly. βHe just wait did he talk back to you?β
Dahlia stood there, half annoyed, half intrigued.
Her heart beat a little faster not from anger, but something she couldnβt explain.
βNo oneβs ever spoken to me like that,β she muttered.
Mirabel crossed her arms. βWell, congratulations you just met the only student in this school who doesnβt care that youβre a princess.β
Dahliaβs lips curved slightly. βInteresting.β
She turned her gaze toward the hallway where Julian had gone.
βHeβs differentβ¦ Iβll find out why.β
Then Julian joined his friend asn they started walking to class together.
Dude you are lucky, Leo muttered.
Lucky for what,Julian asked.
A whole princess even noticed you whoa and you even got to speak with her,Leo answered.
And so you know i don’t care about anybody except my family and you,Julian muttered.
Guy you will never change I wonder if you will ever like someone romantically someday,Leo whispered.
You know I don’t fancy girls and none has ever catch my attention so therefore maybe I was never meant to like someone,Julian muttered and increases his pace while Leo try to catch up with him.
[Principal office]
Meanwhile, inside the principalβs office, a man in his early fifties sat comfortably in a sleek leather chair.
On the desk before him sat a glass nameplate, the letters neatly engraved with his nameβMr Robert.
He adjusted his spectacles, reviewing a few docvments when a soft knock sounded at the door.
βCome in,β his voice commanded gently.
The door opened, and a young woman stepped in, her posture slightly tense yet composed.
Her modest outfit spoke of simplicity, but her eyes sharp and determined hinted at something far greater.
βGood morning, sir,β she said, her tone polite but steady.
βIβm Liora Amari I was told to come in for the job screening.β
Mr. Hayes looked up from his papers, studying her for a moment before motioning toward the chair across from him.
βHave a seat, Miss Amari.β
She nodded, clutching the edge of her file as she sat.
βI see here,β he began, glancing at the form before him, βthat you didnβt complete your schooling.β
Lioraβs heart skipped, but she lifted her chin slightly. βYes, sir I had to stop due toβ¦ personal reasons but Iβve always loved learning I study on my own, and Iβm confident I can handle the responsibilities this position requires.β
Mr. Hayes raised a brow, intrigued by her confidence. βYou sound sure of yourself.β
βI am, sir,β she replied softly, meeting his gaze. βI may not have the certificates yet, but I have the skill, the drive, and the heart to prove my worth.β
The principal leaned back, tapping a pen lightly against his desk.
There was silence for a few seconds, then a faint smile tugged at the corner of his lips.
βWell, Miss Amariβ he said, βletβs see just how brilliant you are.β
Mr Robert was about to speak again when the door swung open suddenly.
βSir!β a breathless female voice exclaimed.
It was Mrs. Collins, the school secretary, clutching a folder against her chest. βIβm so sorry to interrupt, but we have a problem.β
Mr. Hayes frowned slightly. βWhat is it, Mrs Collins?β
She took a quick breath. βThe substitute teacher we hired for the General Class just called in that’s he is no longer working with us and the main teacher is still hospitalized and the students are already waiting in the hall, and we donβt have anyone available to cover the session.β
Mr Robert sighed, rubbing his temple. βThatβs all we need this morningβ¦β
Liora sat quietly, unsure if she should speak.
But something in her refused to stay silent.
βExcuse me, sir,β she said softly.
Both of them turned to her.
βIβ¦ I could help, if youβd let me,β she said, her voice calm but earnest. βIβve studied across all departments arts, science, and commerce I know enough to teach the basics, at least until the new teacher comes in.β
Mrs. Collins blinked, surprised. βYou? But youβre here for a screening.β
βI know,β Liora admitted, βbut if youβre short on staff, I can step in temporarily just give me one chance to prove myself.β
Mr Robert watched her carefully something about her tone carried quiet confidence, the kind that couldnβt be faked.
After a long pause, he said, βMrs. Collins, prepare a short notice for the general class miss Amari will handle the session.β
Mrs. Collins hesitated. βAre you sure, sir?β
βYes,β he said firmly, turning back to Liora. βLetβs see if your words match your abilities youβll take the general class for now arts, science, and commercial students all together.β
Liora stood, her heart pounding but her eyes shining. βThank you, sir I wonβt let you down.β
As she followed Mrs. Collins out of the office, Mr Robert watched her go with a thoughtful expression.
Something told him this girl that’s is brilliant, bold, and unqualified on paper might just be the kind of teacher the school never knew it needed.
Her surname felt familiar though,he thought again and continue working.
[Hall]
The school bell rang sharply across the hallways.
Julian sat in his seat, spinning his pen and pretending to listen as students whispered excitedly.
βHey, Julian,β Leo leaned closer with a grin.
βThey said weβre getting a new assistant teacher today.β
Julian nodded casually. βYeah, I heard.β
He tried to act normal, but inside, he already knew exactly who it was.
The classroom door opened, and Mrs Collins walked in with someone behind her.
βGood morning, class,β Mrs. Collins began.
βThis is Miss Liora Amari sheβll be helping out with class activities and tutoring sessions.β
Julianβs classmates turned to look.
Some smiled politely.
Others whispered.
But Julian just sat still, hiding a small proud smile.
Liora stepped forward nervously.
Her heart raced as she looked at all the faces neatly dressed students from royal and noble families.
She spotted Julian sitting near the window, trying to keep a straight face.
Their eyes met for just a second, and he gave her the tiniest nod.
βGood morning, everyone,β Liora said softly. βIβm happy to be here I hope weβll learn well together.β
In the front row, Princess Dahlia watched silently.
She didnβt recognize the new teacher, but something about her quiet confidence caught her attention.
βSheβsβ¦ different,β Dahlia thought, tilting her head slightly.
Leo whispered to Julian, βShe looks nervous think sheβll last a week?β
Julian shot him a warning look. βDonβt start.β
Mrs. Collins smiled. βAlright, Miss Liora, you can begin by helping with todayβs review.β
Liora nodded and picked up the marker.
As she began explaining a math problem, her voice grew steadier, clearer.
Soon, even the noisy students started listening surprised by how calm and patient she was.
When the bell finally rang, students started leaving.
Dahlia packed her books slowly, glancing once more at Liora before walking out.
βSheβs new,β Dahlia murmured to her friend. βBut she teaches well.β
Julian stood up, pretending to stretch, and Leo nudged him. βYou knew her she was applying to teach here didnβt you?β
Julian just smirked. βMaybe.β
Outside the classroom, Liora let out a small breath of relief.
Her first class was over and she didnβt mess it up.
ERYNODOR PALACE
Inside the council room the Elders where seen discussing and waiting for the king.
Most where whispering about the dinnerβ they overhead the maids talking about.
While some Okay discussing about the kingdom growth affair.
Then The golden doors of the council room creaked open.
Kael, the Kingβs most trusted royal guard, stepped in tall, composed, and silent as ever.
The Elders turned toward him, their murmurs dying down.
Elder Garven leaned forward slightly. βWhere is His Majesty?β
Kael didnβt answer.
He walked straight to the front, his black boots echoing across the marble floor, and stopped before the empty throne.
He unrolled a royal parchment sealed with the Kingβs crest.
Elder Evans muttered under his breath, βHeβs so full of himself, acting like heβs the king.β
Kaelβs cold gaze flicked briefly in his direction enough to make the old man lower his eyes.
Then Kael spoke, his deep voice commanding silence.
> βBy the order of His Majesty, King Ryker of Erynodor the King will not be present for todayβs council meeting.β
The Elders exchanged uneasy looks.
Kael continued,
> βHowever, I have been instructed to deliver an important royal decree.
A Royal Bride Contest shall be held a test of grace, wit, and honor to select a bride worthy of Prince Damian though the official date has not been finalized, but preparations are to begin immediately.β
Whispers spread like wildfire through the room.
Elder Rowan frowned. βA contest? For a royal marriage? Thatβs unheard of!β
Elder Varyn muttered, βThe people will think itβs a game.β
Kaelβs sharp gaze swept across the table.
βThe Kingβs decision is not to be questioned.β
The room went silent again.
Then Kaelβs tone shifted, lower and more dangerous.
> βThere is one more matterβ¦ His Majesty has received reports of betrayal within this council.β
The Elders stiffened.
Kaelβs eyes landed on Elder Evans. βYou, Elder Evans youβve been accused of leaking internal discussions to certain noble familiesβ¦ families that have tried to influence the royal succession.β
Elder Evansβs face turned pale. βT-Thatβs a lie! I would neverββ
Kael stepped closer, his voice cold.
> βHis Majesty has proof and a royal seal was found in correspondence traced to your servant. Youβve broken your oath to the crown.β
Gasps echoed around the chamber.
Kael raised the parchment again.
> βBy the Kingβs order Elder Evans is hereby dismissed from his position and stripped of all royal privileges.β
Two guards entered immediately, seizing the trembling Elder.
Evans shouted, βYouβll regret this! The King is being deceivedβ!β
But his words were cut off as the doors shut behind him.
The council room fell into deep silence.
Kael turned back to the rest of the Elders, his expression unreadable.
βLet this serve as a reminder cause loyalty to the crown is not a choice, itβs a duty.β
He bowed slightly toward the throne.
βThis meeting is adjourned.β
Then he turned and left, the echo of his steps fading down the royal hall.
The Elders sat frozen the shadow of fear and curiosity filling the grand room.
And for the first time, they began to wonder what other plans King Ryker was hiding.
But someone kept smiling cause he liked the king judgement.
Later in the day the school had finally became quiet.
Students filled the courtyard, laughing and chatting as the sun began to set behind the tall academy walls.
Liora walked out of the library, holding a few books.
She looked calm but tired her first day had been busier than she expected.
βMiss Liora?β a gentle voice called.
Liora turned to see Princess Dahlia, standing a few steps away with her two friends.
βYes and hope no issue β Liora said quickly.
Dahlia smiled. β I just wanted to say you did well today that class is full of noisy students, but you managed to keep them quiet.β
Liora smiled shyly. βThank you I was nervous at first, but they were kind.β
One of Dahliaβs friends giggled. βKind? That class? You must have magic.β
Liora laughed softly, shaking her head.
As she looked up again, Dahlia studied her face closely.
Something about Liora made her pause.
Her smile faded a little.
She couldnβt explain itβ¦ but Liora looked familiar.
βAre you new here?β Dahlia asked curiously.
βYes,β Liora replied. βTodayβs my first day.β
Dahlia nodded slowly, still lost in thought.
Her eyes narrowed slightly, as if trying to remember something.
Where have I seen her before?
Then it hit her not the girl herself, but her eyes.
They reminded her of the boy sheβd seen earlier that morning in the hallway
Julian, the student who had caught her attention by standing up for someone and also talked to her rudely these morning
Dahlia murmured quietly, almost to herself,
βShe looksβ¦ a bit like that boy from this morning.β
Liora tilted her head politely. βDid you say something dera?β
Dahlia quickly smiled, hiding her curiosity. βOh, nothing just talking to myself welcome again, Miss Liora.β
βThank you,β Liora said softly.
As Dahlia walked away, she couldnβt shake the thought.
Same eyes⦠same calm look.
The same confident not bother about her status.
But she brushed it off
The orange sun hung low, spilling gold across the wide basketball court.
The sound of shoes squeaking, laughter, and bouncing balls filled the air.
Julian moved fast, his focus sharp as he dribbled and shot again.
The ball cut clean through the air β swish! Straight in.
βAnother perfect shot,β Leo said, clapping.
Julian wiped his sweat, his tone flat. βThatβs what practice is for.β
But across the court, Derek, tall and proud, rolled his eyes.
βOf course, Mr perfect never misses youβre good at showing off, huh?β
Julian ignored him, picking up another ball. βItβs called effort, not showing off.β
Derek stepped forward, smirking. βEffort? Or do you just like everyone staring at you like youβre the only one who matters?β
Leo sighed. βNot again, Derek.β
But Derek wasnβt listening.
He pushed Julianβs shoulder roughly.
βCome on, top student letβs see if you fight as well as you study.β
Julianβs grip tightened on the ball.
His voice dropped low βBack off.β
βOh? Did I hit a nerve?β Derek sneered.
Before anyone could react, Julian dropped the ball and shoved him back hard.
The other players gasped.
βJulian!β Leo shouted. βDonβtβ!β
βEnough,β Julian snapped, his patience breaking. βYou talk too much.β
The court fell silent tension sharp in the air.
Then suddenly, a voice echoed across the court.
βStop it! Both of you!β
Everyone froze.
Princess Dahlia stood at the edge of the court, her school uniform catching the evening light, her eyes wide with authority and disbelief.
βWhatβs going on here?β she asked, stepping closer.
Derek quickly lowered his head. βItβs nothing, Your Highnessβ¦ just a smallββ
βSilence,β she said coldly. βYouβre both behaving like children.β
Julian turned his head slightly, his jaw tightening. βYou donβt know what happened.β
βI donβt have to,β Dahlia replied. βIt doesnβt matter who started it youβre supposed to set an example, Julian youβre one of the top students here.β
That hit something inside him.
He looked up, eyes dark.
βAnd youβre what? A princess who thinks a title gives her the right to lecture anyone?β
Her lips parted slightly. βIβm just saying whatβs rightββ
Julian stepped closer, his voice dropping, each word cutting deeper.
βRight?β he said coldly. βYou donβt even know what βrightβ means you live in a world where people clean your mess and call it grace.β
The air went still.
Dahliaβs face froze.
The words hit her like a slap quiet, but brutal.
Leoβs mouth fell open. βJulianβ¦ thatβs enough.β
But Julian wasnβt done.
His anger ran deeper than anyone knew.
He h@tΓ« it when someone interfere in his business and most especially he h@tΓ« royal kids due to some personal reasons.
βYou walk around here like everyone owes you respect,β he said, his tone sharp as glass.
βBut out there in the real world your title means something but to me i donβt bow neither do I care.β
He turned his back to her, picking up his bag slowly.
βNext time, Princess,β he said without looking back, βsave your pity for someone who needs it.β
And with that, he walked off the court, leaving silence and whispers behind him.
Dahlia stood frozen in place, eyes stinging though she didnβt know why.
His words echoed again and again in her mind β cruel, but honest.
It wasnβt just anger sheβd heard.
It was pain.
The basketball rolled across the court and stopped at her feet.
She didnβt move.
She just whispered to herself,
βWho are you really, Julian?β………………
