FLASHBACK CONTINUES…
*
Celia successfully escaped from the hospital and was glad that the big boss didn’t run after her.
She ran far away from the hospital and found herself entering the place she least expected — a Catholic Church.
She wasn’t a Christian far from being Catholic, but she was knowledgeable enough to know that the church is always opened for 24 hours, and welcomes everyone.
She said a short prayer the best way she could, and she spun around in fear when she felt a presence, to see a priest.
“My child, do you want to confess your sins and repent?” the priest asked, and she found herself nodding in tears.
She has no definite sins to confess, but she hope to be delivered from the big boss so if repentance was the cost, she will repent and become a nun if need be.
*
She lament all her problems to the priest and he assured her that she will be save if she repents.
He offered her a place to sleep and gave her enough money to return home the following day and also gave her his number to keep in touch for counseling.
*
She returned home and packed her bags in fear before calling her cousin who sent enough money for her transportatio.
*
She hurried to the bank to withdraw all her money before heading to the bus station and bought the next bus ticket to New York because what she has wasn’t enough for a plane ticket.
After a tiresome journey that lasted almost half a day, she arrived in New York the following day and boarded a taxi to her cousin’s house.

Celia tossed and tuned on her bed before going out to see her cousin setting the table for breakfast. She has been in New York for few days and all she does was eat, sleep, and wake up in the middle of the night from her nightmare.
“Celia, hope you slept well?” Emma asked.
“You can answer that better, Emma,” Celia grumbled, yawning loudly.
“When will you move on from that nightmare? You’re also giving me sleepless nights,”
“When I find a job. All I do is sleep and think, I need to be preoccupied with something to get those thoughts off my head,”
“And eat!” Emma lashed.
“What? Eat what?”
“All you do is eat, sleep, and think. You should add that, it’s very important. You eat a lot for your weight,”
“Well… I’m actually not a heavy eater, but I can’t help it whenever I see free food,” she winked, and Emma threw the napkin at her.
“Gross…”
“You’ll start to pay for whatever you eat,”
“We agree on doing that when I get a job. I don’t even have any money now,” she grumbled.
“Since getting a full-time job won’t be easy, I was able to secure a spot for you at the supermarket I work for part-time,”
“Really?”
“It’s not going to pay well, and… you might not be called back after working for a day. You get paid dai—“
“I’ll do it!” she snapped, and hit the table hard.
“That startled me,” Emma flinched.
“I’ll do it. The part-time job. I should’ve thought about that,” with that, she ran back to the room.
“Where are you going?” Emma shouted.
“To bath!” she shouted back, and Emma laughed.
**
**
It was a tiring day at the supermarket and Celia couldn’t stop glancing at the wall-clock. She has been too relent at home that she got drained on her first day at work.
She helped people pack their orders when she realized that someone forgot a wallet. She opened it and confirmed that it was the last customer that she packed his order last so she ran out immediately to catch him.
She successfully stopped him at the parking lot before he could enter his car.
“Wow. Thanks a lot, Miss, this really means a lot to me,” he exclaimed, and she smiled.
“You can confirm that everything is intact,” she said, and he opened the wallet.
“Yes, it is. I really wish I could appreciate you with something for this, but I have no cash me,”
“You don’t have to. I worked part-time in a convenience store and these happens a lot “
“Oh, you’re a kind person,”
“Oh… you don’t have to flatter me,”
“Then… I’ll be in my way,” the man said, and she smiled.
“Wait, sir!” she shouted, and the man turned to look at her, giving her a knowing look.
“I thought you’re good,” he said, smiling slyly.
“Well… I didn’t mean to intrude, but I checked your wallet and saw that you’re Mr. Jerry Smith, the CEO of JE connects. I’m new in New York and I have been trying to get recruited. Mind you, I work part-time here,”
“Oh… I’m afraid that I don’t really… go for underage. I hope this doesn’t sound offensive,”
“No, no, no, I’m not underage. I’m 19, a college student on break. I can do all sort of jobs. I’m very hardworking,”
“You’re on break, which means you will return to school soon,”
“Sir, I can really work. I need money for my tuition and had to take a break from school. Being pursued by loan sharks and the big boss have also been another struggles,” she cried, and the man looked at her in shock.
“Excuse me,” he muttered when his phone rang and she nodded, wiping her tears.
•
📞>*This is like the 20th person this week,*
📞>*Why can’t they go to other agency? At this rate, I don’t think I can send anyone else there for the interview,*he shouted, and Celia glanced at him.
📞>*This is really exhausting,* with that, the dropped the call.
•
“Sir, I can do it,” Celia said, and the man looked at her.
“Do what?”
“What you’re talking about. I can attend the interviews. I’m really skilled in many ways. Not only did I work in a convenience store, I also work as a delivery person, in a cafeteria…” she was saying, and the man exhaled heavily.
“Listen to me, Miss, this is beyond your league. You can’t do this,”
“Does it require certification?”
“No, but…”
“Sir, just try me,” she said, pouting her together.
*
They went to the closest coffee shop together and he explained what the job was about.
“Just a nanny? As long as she isn’t a teenager, I can babysit her. I’m very good with handling kids and elderly people even though I don’t get along with teenagers and my age mates,”
“Miss…”
“Celia, call me Celia,”
“Celia, what I’m trying to explain is that you can’t handle this job,”
“Try me. Let me be the 21th person,”
“I don’t get,”
“You mentioned earlier on the phone that 20 people got rejected,”
“Exactly. So, what makes you think you can handle it?”
“I admit, I’m never lucky with things. Others might get it easily, but I struggle a little to get certain things. My scholarship, part-time jobs, and even life itself. But I’m still pushing,”
“So?”
“I’ve been through a lot so even if I getrejected here, it won’t matter. I’ll had it to my long list,”
“You’re a ready persistent one,”
“I consider that a compliment because that’s how I made it this far,” she said, and bowed lightly.
“You really think you can handle this?”
“Trying doesn’t hurt,”
“A lot of people retreat when they hear who they’re working for,”
“A lot, but me,”
“She is the 7-year-old daughter of Lord Dom, a mafia boss,” he said, she her eyes widened in shock.
.
Lord Dom, her cousin tells her story of how fearsome he was. They say he was a scary looking dragon lord that preys on others. He’s respected all over New York, one could literally say he rules the city.
**
She tossed and turned on her bed unable to sleep. It was a long day for her.
After her encounter with the CEO, she returned to the mall and was quarreled for stepping out. The manager paid her half payment and sent her off.
She has been thinking all day. There was no way she could accept that job, but thinking about it, the interview doesn’t mean she would get the job and the CEO might consider her determination, and introduce her to other offer.
But another thought of getting the job disturbed her, but working as a nanny wasn’t a big deal.
“I have experienced far worse than a mafia. My experience with those loan sharks is mafia-like already. I should do it,” she muttered in determination.
The door slugged opened startling her, and Emma burst in.
“You startled me!” she shouted.
“How can you mess up on your first day?” Emma screamed at the top of her voice.
*
Celia explained everything to Emma, and they both remained awkwardly quiet.
“No, you can’t do it!” Emma shouted.
“But what if this is the only full-time job I can find?”
“You still can’t! This man is very dangerous,”
“Do you even know him? Have you seen him before?”
“Never will I! But I have heard a lot about him. Some say that he is a vampire, he drinks human blood. He kllls them and suck their blood,”
“You never told me that,” she flinched.
“I just heard it,”
“That’s scary, but come to think of it, vampire can’t produce offsprings,”
“There are more. Many said he has the face of a dragon, and some said he is a dragon himself. Others said he was a sxxy man while majority believed that he was just a cruel old man. No, just NO!”
“Emma, I still want to do it. I feel like it’s an opportunity,” she grumbled.
“Never! I won’t let you get yourself into that. I’ll feed you for six months if need be, and give you enough money for your tuition,”
“And the loan shark…” she grumbled.
“The loan shark, errmm… the loan shark. They would’ve find your father by then and take his organs instead,”
“You’re right. But I still want to do this,” she grumbled.
“My decision is final!” with that, Emma went to the bathroom.
All Celia attempts to convince her proves abortive until she finally gave up and intend to do it without Emma’s consent.
*
Emma went to work the following day, and she went to use a public line to call the CEO.
He texted her an address the address of the agency, and she went there immediately.
He told d told her everything she has to know, and also gave her the interview conditions
Nothing in the conditions was out of the ordinary so she made up her mind to attend it before Emma returns.
“I’m sorry Emma, I normally don’t get lucky, so allow me do this,” she thought, as the taxi drove off, heading to the den of the dragon lord — as everyone calls him.
