Flashback continues…
Celia tossed and turned on her bed unable to sleep, as expected the loan sharks were not willing to lend her any money. They threatened to return for her organ if she doesn’t provide the $200.000 her father owed, or hand him over.
At that point, if she could find her father, she would gladly hand him over to the loan shark and negotiate for the cost of any part of his body left.
She took her phone and went online to see her video trending with everyone shading her.
She went to her department group to confirm how they found out about her nightstand and everything became clear.
George sent it to the group, he lied to them that she went to the club with a stranger after his failed attempt, and some curious students hanged around and took pictures of her when she was leaving in the morning, so everything was just perfect.
At that point, getting her tuition wasn’t as important as finding an escape. Escape from the scandal, and also escape from the loan shark who are obviously relent on finding her father and already focused on her.
She took her phone and called the least person she expected to call —her cousin, Emma who was five years older than her.
Emma was the niece of her first stepmother, and they became close — they attended same school, and lived in the same neighborhood until Emma relatives to New York, and they gradually stopped keeping in touch.
💬*Emma, are you still there?* she texted before dropping her phone.
She inhaled deeply and went to freshen up, when she returned Emma already replied her message.
“Oh, Emma…” she exclaimed in relief and texted back immediately.
Thankfully, Emma was also active and she lament all her worries to her, and Emma’s only solution was a break.
“A break?” she thought, and put her phone away.
After thinking about it for a while, she realized that was the only choice she had. She can’t possibly raise money for her tuition before the deadline, and her organs are now the target of loan sharks, amidst all, she is the talk of the entire school; perhaps, city.
“Yes, a long break in New York it is,” she muttered in determination.
*
She went to school to submit the letter of absence after narrating a lengthy sob story in the letter.
She hid behind the administration block to confirm that the coast was cleared before hurrying in.
Requesting for six months break will be enough for her to put her live together. With enough time for several part-time jobs and also enough time for the scandal about her to subdue.
*
After submitting the letter, she let out a sigh in relief.
She was walking out without scanning her environment when she saw Tyler and Victoria. She gasped and turned around to run back but she saw George behind her, so she ran past them all and find a good spot to hid.
“What was that for ? Why am I here hiding when I did nothing wrong?” she grumbled, and made up her mind to walk with her chin up.
She gets up to leave and saw few of her course mates, and she found herself hiding again.
“I can’t do this, I really can’t. The break was really the only way out,” she grumbled.
*
She went to the cafeteria to bid goodbye to Naomi properly and also went to the places she works part-time to also request for a break.
“You aren’t requesting for a break, you’ve already made up your mind, so even if I don’t grant it, you’ll still leave anyways,” Ms. Rena, the woman in charge of the convenience store she works said.
“I’m sorry, ma’am, but I really need this break to put my life together, and I’ll be glad to have this job bavk when I return. It’s already a part of me,”
“I understand you, Celia, I understand that you need the break. Six months will fly by, you’re always welcome whenever you return,” Ms. Rena said, and Celia instantly felt emotional.
She has always been surrounded by kind people, the only obstacle in her life was her father. She can’t wait for the loan shark to get their hands on him and get him out of her life for good.
*
She worked at her shift at the bar later at night to cover up the shifts she missed in other to get paid because the manager in charge won’t pay any part-timer that worked for less than 15 days in a month.
She left the bar late at night and was streaking all the way home in frustration as she remembered that she still has to go to the neighbor’s building to get water.
“I hope they fix this before I return,” she grumbled when she suddenly felt her feet away from the ground, “What? Am I flying?” she almost shouted, until she realized that it was an ambush.
She wanted to scream for help, but they already covered her face with a sack and carried her to their truck.
She fell asleep in the truck and woke up to see herself tied down to a seat. She doubted if they gave her any portion to sleep because she has been all over the place lately and she needed that sleep to get herself.
She looked around wondering who kidnapped her and what they wanted from her when the door slugged open and she saw the loan shark people.
“What? But they gave me two days,” she almost cried.
“Why is she a mess? Why did you tied her down there?” the man shouted.
“Boss, we don’t know what we were supposed to do with her,” one of the other men said, and their boss slapped him.
“How dare you hurt her?! I told you not to hurt her! How will you take responsibility if she got a scratch?!” the Boss shouted.
“What? Are they planning to sell off?” she almost cried.
The man walked closer to her and she tried to free herself from the chair but it was to no avail.
“Don’t hurt yourself damsel, I’m not going to hurt you,” the Boss said.
“Please… let me go, I’m going to look for my father and hand him over to you. You gave me two days,” she cried and he wiped off her tears with his hands disgusting her.
“I told you, I cut you some slack because you’re beautiful. I gave you two days but my heart can’t wait any longer. I couldn’t stop thinking about you,” he said, and her eyes widened in fear.
“What…” she slurred, and he gently untied her.
“I’ll give you all the money you need, and I’ll wipe off your father’s debt. You just have to be obedient,” he said, and her heart started beating in fear.
She would gladly give them all her organs, rather than that.
*
They showed her to a room to freshen up and gave her a clothe for change— a bum length sleeveless gown.
“Who wears this in winter?” she grumbled, but there was nothing else to wear.
The men returned later to take her to their boss who was in a living room-like room because she could never call that shady place a living room.
“Come here, damsel,” he said, and she started to panic.
She hesitated, trying to drag her feet that refuse to move when one of the other men dragged her to him.
“I told you not hurt her!” the boss lashed
“Please… let me go,” she cried.
That was the moment she remembered that she was in danger.
“No, not that. I won’t hurt you,” he said, creasing her jawline.
She shoved his hand away in disgust fully aware of the complications. She would rather have a nightstand with a stranger when she was drunk than vulnerably give herself to a loan shark.
“What? Did you just reject my advance?” he shouted, and hit her.
“Please, let me go…” she cried, and tried to run even though she knew there was no escape.
He dragged her back and wanted to force himself on her when one of his men rushed in to her rescue.
He went to the boss and whispered some words which weakened him.
She took advantage of his distractions to run out even though she knew there was no eacape.
She ran out and bumped into something hefty when she slugged the door open.
She thought it was a wall, but glancing up, it was a well-built body.
“Boss! We’ll take her!” the small boss shouted.
He was better called small boss now since he was intimidated by the man she bumped into.
“No, I’ll take her,” the big boss said, and she wanted to look at his face because all she could see was his well-built body but one of the men of the small boss hit her head down.
“When I said I’ll take her, you’ve no rights to hurt her. No body touches what is mine,” the man said, intimidating the others, and he bent down to her level.
She bowed her head in fear as she instantly understood that he was not different from the small boss.
“Now I need a mighty boss to rescue me,” she almost cried.
