Stanley contemplated on his decision before he gave it a shot — trying won’t hurt, he has always tried and failed but he was determined to do better this time, with all his words well planned.
He opened the door to the math club with the pass card, and everyone gazed fell at the door, and Jessica scoffed at the sight of him.
“What do you want?” She blurted, walking closer to him.
“I’m here to give you an offer you can’t refuse,” he said, proudly.
“I refuse to hear it,”
“I’ll say it anyways,”
“This is a math club, not an appropriate place for you to chitchat,”
“Im offering you my intelligence. I recently realized why I was good at math, and that was because I usually challenge myself, I never settle for my level. When I learn to solve equations, I didn’t stop where I was thought, I began to attempt more difficult equations, and challenged a senior four grades ahead of me. Of course, it was a difficult challenge, but I pass with a draw,”
“Are you here to flaunt nonsense to my face?”
“I already aced all the mock questions to the national math competition, and I didn’t stop there, I recently attempt a postgraduate level mock exam, and managed to pass within the time limit,”
“Wow!” Everyone expect Jessica exclaimed.
“Get out, you are causing distractions,”
“My point is, you will never improve above your current levels, why? Because tiy hate taking challenges. You refuse my request to join the math club because you don’t want anyone better than you here. All the students here are all between 90 to 95% good at math, you never refurit anyone better than you, that’s why you will always fall between your current grade. Why not just take me in, challenge my ability, that’s the only way to win against me,” he said, and she slapped him.
“Ou…” everyone gossiped.
“Do you know why I would never recruit you? It’s because I hate your guts. You follow Mike around like you a lost puppy, but always managed to ace your exams, you won’t be a good influence on any of us here, so GET OUT!”

Stanley barged the door hard and exhaled heavily. She collected the card from him and kicked him out. He his fingers through his hair, and played a recording.
“This would be enough to prove that you aren’t being fair in selecting the club members,” he thought. He had a plan B incase his first plan didn’t work out. He knew that Jessica would be very difficult to convince.

Paulina alighted from the taxi at her regular bus station. No one offered her a ride, so she had to take a taxi to the bus station. She looked around searching for the ragged man; due to some unknown reasons, she alway found herself searching for him whenever she is at the bus station. After their last encounter the other day, she hasn’t seen him again.
“He looked so cleans and refreshed, he must’ve been doing better for himself,” she always reassured herself with those words.
She wanted to enter the next bus when a hand grip her, and she turned around because the body scent was familiar.
“Sage,” she called, and he smiled.
“I knew I could find you here,” he said, and she smiled.

She entered his car and looked at him, wondering what he was up to.
“Can you spare two hours for me?” He asked, and she nodded.
“Where to?” She muttered.
“It’s a surprise,” he whispered, and she chuckled.

They drove for about half a hour before he pulled over at a new resort that doesn’t seem to be opened yet.
“I don’t think they have started work here,” she muttered, and he nodded.
“We’re here to open it,” he said, and she looked at him.
“Your family own this resort? I thought you only deal with agricultures,”
“Yes, the group is an agricultural company, it has been since ages. That being said, mu family doesn’t own it,”
“Oh… then you must be close to the owner,”
“It’s mine,” he said, and she gasped.
“You don’t mean it?”
“Of course with my father’s money,”
“You own this resort?”
“I started working on it few years ago with my mum. I just thought that it did be nice to own a resort with a beautiful view. I was always envious of my friends whose family own one, we vist so many resorts, but we don’t even own one,” he said, and she looked at him in amazement.
“You’re incredible, Sage. So are you going to manage this after your studies?”
“I right know yet. My parents have a huge share in the resort, so I don’t think I can decide the management. My future is kinda complicated to me as well, my maternal grandfather wants me to become a prosecutor, and mum is hook on that. She supported me with this so I could study harder and get into law school. My father wants me to take over the group, and my sister is busy discovering new dreams everyday. She is into photography now,” he said, and she chuckled.
“I’m sorry if that upset you,”
“Nah… I just feel like evegine has a dream expect me. But everything changed when her I met you… I really like you Lina. After the first day I met you, I understand the meaning of dream, yearning for something, wanting to have something, talking to you this way feels like an achievement. So I came to a conclusion, turns out I had a dram after all, and that dream is to be ith you,”
“Sage…”
“We’re still young and immature, we shouldn’t be talking about the future now, but I feel like my future could only be with you, next to you. I don’t care if I become a prosecutor, I dint care if I have to take over the company or manage this resort, I just want to be with you. I believe I can conquer it all if you’re with me. I’ve a selfish dream, right?”
“Safe… I…” she shuddered.
“Don’t! Don’t reject me now, otherwise we won’t be able to have fun anymore. It will ruin the whole day,” he said, and alighted from the car.

They had fun together at the resort for few hours, before they call it a day. She sat next to the water fall staring at the moon, and Sage sat next to her.
“You’re very unpredictable, Lina,” he said, and she looked at him.
“How’s that?” She managed to ask.
“You are seated next to this beautiful waterfall, but you were carried away by the moon,” he teased, and she chuckled.
“The moon is more beautiful,”
“But you’re more beautiful,” he said, and she looked at him. “What? Have no one ever said you’re beautiful?”
“Sage…”
“Oh, does it sounds weird, hearing it from me?”
“Why do you even like me? I mean… you know nothing about me,” she found herself saying.
“Must I know everything about you to like you? If that was how feelings work, love at first sight wouldn’t have existed,”
“So, was it from first sight?”
“Yes. But even if you already got to know me, you still have no feelings for me, right?”
“I like you too, Sage,”
“But just as a friend. The same way you like Sophie, and others. That’s so cringe, I don’t want to hear that from you,”
“Not as a friend, but I want us to remain friends. So, please… stop confessing to me,”
“Why? If our feelings are mutual, why do you want us to remain friends?”
“I’m so new to all of these, Sage. I’ve been confused about my own feelings lately. I realized that I like you, but I…”. She shuddered.
“You also like Mike?” He asked, and she looked at him, wondering how he could read her mind.
“Sage…”
“You like me, but you also like Mike. So, why do you decide to choose him? Do you think he is better than me?”
“You’re better than Mike, and that’s why I can’t choose you,”
“What’s that suppose to mean?”
“I wish the day would come when I can be completely honest with you without holding anything back, I really wish that miracle could happen. But… for now, I want you to respect my decision, and stop confessing,”
“I feared that this dah would come, when you would reject me brutally, but I still tell myself to keep going because I’ve more trials left, and now, you tell me to stop confessing, which means you would never accept my feelings,”
“Sage, I’m sorry,” she cried.
“I’m the one who hit rejected, so you don’t have to cry. I’m not going to console you. I won’t tell you it’s fine, because it’s not fine to get rejected. This is my first rejection, so this feeling is new to me. I won’t promise to be a loyal friend, because I still don’t know how to handle this, but it’s fine because I’m saw this all coming. This isn’t the first time you will reject me, even though you never said it out loud in the past, you’ve longed rejected me, a long time ago. When you became friends with Mike, and claimed to be in a relationship with him, and each fine when I confess. I knew you were rejecting me, but I still decide to give it my all. I really liked you, Lina, but too bad, you don’t know the worth of who you rejected. That’s all I’ve to say,” he said, and stood up to leave.
“Sage…”
“I’m sorry, I can’t give you a ride back. You’ve to understand, it did be weird for me to give you a ride like nothing happened. I’ll call my driver, he will be here in a jiffy,” with that, he left.

Mifheal got home from school and was welcomed by the new chef.
“You dint have to submit your resignation letter to me directly. Leave it to me. Jones, and go,” he blurted, and went to his room but she followed him.
“Mike, please listen to me. I also doubt if my return would protect you or cause you harm, but one thing is certain, Mrs. Russ can’t be trusted. She had an eye on me all these years while I was away, and she was aware of who I was before she accept my resume to work here,”
“I know. We all know that. But that doesn’t justify why you should be here. Personally, I don’t like you. I’m going through a lot as it is, so you can’t add more to my worries, please leave,”
“Mike, if you are thinking about breaking off your engagement, please don’t. You can’t do that,”
“What do you even know? You don’t know anything, so what made you think you’ve the right to tell me what to do? You are just a wh0re that was abandoned by my father, but too bad I’m caught in all of these because of you,”
“You are right, I’m just a wh0re that seduced Mr. Russ. I also don’t want to end up like this, I think I’m going to get to live a Bette life if I succeed, but turns out I was wrong, I got kicked out the moment Mrs. Russ found out, and she sent people after me when she discovered that I was pregnant. I didn’t even have time to think of terminating the pregnancy because I had to run for my life. Accept it or not, Mike, you were nothing but a mistake I couldn’t get rid of. But since it has gotten to this, we have both came this far, so we just have to keep living, and if you want to live you have to hold on to that engagement, that’s the only way you can have everything you can worked so hard for,”
“You shouldn’t have gave birth to me,” he muttered.
“I know I shouldn’t have, I knew you did suffer this much if I do, but I was too reckless, I was only thinking about myself and how to live. I never imagined a day like this would come, but it’s inevitable now, Mike, so we just have to live on “
“What do you even know?”
“Reasonable enough to stop you from breaking the engagement. Mrs. Russ is the real owner of Russ’ group,” she said, and Micheal looked at her — obviously, he was hearing that for the first time.
“What nonsense are you spouting?” He blurted
“Mrs. Russ father conned the Russ and hijack thier shares in the company, in other to strengthen their marriage. Mr. Russ has few shares in the company, that’s why he wants you to be with the Stanford’s daughter so you can maintain your position,”
“I don’t care about anything you are saying, but I don’t need anyone to live the way I want. And if my father doesn’t even have shares in the company he claim to be his, so what am I even fighting for?”
“Mike… you are different from your father,”
“Then what makes me different? My flaw? The fact that I’m an illegitimate. If that’s what makes me different, then I would just embrace it with pride. I have nothing to lose now, since nothing belong to me from the start,”
“Mike, that’s not how I meant it,”
“However way you mean it, I had enough. Now leave, get OUT!” He yelled, and broke down in tears.

Micheal got to school the following day and made up his mind to get things sorted out. His feelings for Paulina, and the so-called engagement to Ava. He has always been the one making the rules, he always got everything he wanted, so he decided to take things back to how it was.
He joined his friends in their suite, and they all went to class together. Paulina wasn’t in class all day. He dialed my number but it sent him straight to voicemail so he started getting worried.
When school dismissed, he searched everywhere for her but she was no where to be found, wondering if she decide to skip school, he saw her busybody friend — Sophia.
“Hey, you,” he called out, and her eyes widened as she looked at him.
“Mike… are you talking to me?” She shuddered.
“Where is Lina?” He asked, and she gasped.
“The cafeteria rooftop, I’m going there to join her now,”
“I’ll do it,”
“What are you talking about?”
“Stay back, I’ll go to Lina,” with that, he left.

He got to the rooftop and saw her seated staring at the sky, and he went to seat next to her.
“So…” she shuddered, and stopped when she saw him.
“Mike,” she called, and he embraced her.
“Everything is going to be fine, Lina, trust me,” he said, patting her back gently.
They remained that way for few minutes before they released, and he helped her adjust a sl
He moved his lips down to hers, and kissed kissed her, and she opened her mouth to kiss back before she pushed him away after realizing what she was doing, and ran off.
Michael bites his lips in frustration before going after her.
“Lina, where are you running off to when we will still meet at school tomorrow?” He shouted, and she stopped on her track to look at him.
“This isn’t right, Mike.” She muttered, and he walked closer to her.
“What isn’t right? The kiss, or you running off after a passionate kiss?”
“Everything! You are engaged to Ava!”
“So?” He muttered, and she looked at him.
“Mike…”. She shuddered.
“I make the rules, Lina. I go after what I want, and I get it either the easy or hard way. From now henceforth, you are mine. We’re a couple now, so never run off like that again.” He said, and dragged her close to him smashing his lips on hers, and they kissed passionately like their lives depend on it.

Paulina got to school the following day, replying to Michael’s message and a car pulled over in front of her.
“Gosh! That scared me,” she flinched.
“You have to stop him,” a woman said from the car, and Paulina looked at her.
“Are you talking to me?” Paulina asked confused.
“You have to stop Mike, he is going right reveal his true identity to everyone, you have to stop him,”
“What are you talking about? Who are you?” She asked, and the car drove off.
“What does she mean by that?” She thought, and instantly calculated the answer— a strange woman gave her a note the last that Micheal needs the Stanford’s, and now the same woman gave her this information, which could only mean that the woman must’ve a connection with Michael, and if Micheal could get any true identity, it could be the fact that he is an illegitimate.
“What? Is he going to reveal that?” She thought, and she instantly heard an announcement.
🎤*I apologize for my sudden announcement, but I want you all to pay attention because I’ll only say this once…* she heard Michael’s voice from the broadcast room.
“No, no, Mike, you can’t,” she shuddered, and dialed his number immediately running to the broadcast room.
She ran as fast as her legs could carry her until he received her call.
📞 *Mike, what do you think you are doing?*
📞*You can’t, Mike, you gang do this,”
📞 *Mike…” before she could utter another word, he ended the call.
She arrived at the hallway heading to the broadcast room, she bumped into Stanley there.
“Hurry up, we have to stop him,” Stanley said, and she continued on her way.
