His eyelids drooped shut, and he fell into a deep, dreamless sleep.
An indeterminate amount of time later, Cody woke up and found himself in a sitting room, feeling groggy and disoriented.
He was sitting on a chair and right in front of him there were three people also sitting down staring at him.
He looked around and saw Luis standing at the entrance of the door.
Then he focused his eyes on the three people.
One male two females, as his eyes focused, he realized that he recognized the three people sitting in front of him.
“One was Mr. Robert who was sitting on the right hand side of the couch, he is the principal of Dayton highschool and College he is also the one who shot and threw me down the cliff” Cody thought staring at him.
“The lady on the left hand side of the couch looks like the lady who was giving Mr. Robert orders the day he shot me and threw me off the cliff. Is she bearing the name Susan? If so does that mean she is Nathan’s mother” Cody thought, his eyes narrowing.
“There is no way I could ever forget this face” Cody said inwardly staring at the lady who seems to be the leader sitting in the middle of the couch.
“This is the face of the lady that killed my mom, come to think of it, seeing her again after this many years Celina kind of looks like her” Cody thought.
“Ah, I see you’re awake,” Mr. Robert said.
“Of course you can see, you’re not blind are you?” Cody asked and Mr. Robert’s face turned red in anger.
“Calm down Robert,” Leah said, trying to calm the angry Robert.
He nodded and took a deep breath to calm himself down.
“I know you’re probably angry that we brought you here and also wondering what’s going on” Leah said, her voice soothing.
“But we just want to talk to you, there’s no need to be upset,” Leah smiled and Cody chuckled.
“I’m way more upset than you could ever think of” Cody said, trying to keep his voice steady.
“You guys brought me here out of my own free will and you’re telling me not to be upset, am I a joke to you?” Cody said, his frustration evident in his voice.
“We’re not joking, Cody,” Leah said, her tone serious.
“We know this is a difficult situation, but we need to talk to you about what you did. It’s important”
“But why?” Cody asked, feeling a surge of frustration.
“What does any of this have to do with me? I don’t know you guys and I didn’t do anything wrong!”
Leah leaned forward, her eyes boring into his.
“You’re wrong about that, Cody”
“You did something outstanding, you risk your life just to protect one of our children”
“That’s something that we can’t ignore,” Leah said and looked at Susan.
“Thank you, Cody,” She said, staring at him.
“Huh?”
“Thank you for protecting my son,” Susan smiled.
“Excuse me, but who are you?” Cody asked.
“My name is Susan, I am Nathan’s mother,” She said.
“Just like I thought she is Nathan’s mother” Cody said inwardly and looked at Leah.
“What?” Leah raised her brows.
“You should introduce yourself, I don’t know you guys but you seem to know who I am already” Cody replied.
“That’s a fair point,” Leah said, her face softening.
“I’m sorry for not introducing myself sooner”
“My name is Leah, I’m not sure if you would know my daughter since you just started attending Dayton college”
“But let me tell you her name in case you two meet, her name is Celine,” Leah said.
“Celine?” Cody said.
“It can’t be the Celine I’m thinking of,” Cody thought.
“Yes, her full name is Celine George,” Leah said with a proud smile on her face.
“George? Isn’t that the same surname with Linda, wait are they related? Nah that can’t be true but if it is the truth does it mean Mr. George is also Celine’s father?” Cody’s thoughts were racing.
“What are you thinking about?” Leah asked, a curious look on her face.
“Nothing,” Cody shook his head.
“I will have to ask Paul to do some investigation for me once I am out of here but for now let me play along with them” Cody said inwardly.
“You can continue with the introduction,” He said.
“Okay, this man over here his name is Robert” Leah said pointing at Robert.
“I’m sure you already know him?”
“Yes, he is the principal of my school” Cody replied and Leah smiled.
“Well, you’re a smart one,” She said, her smile growing.
“Now that the introductions are out of the way, let’s get down to business” Leah said.
“Business?” Cody asked.
“Yeah, I am the leader of this organization/gang” She said.
“I can’t really tell you the name of our gang nor I can tell you what we do but I want you to join us” Leah smiled.
“I’m having a bad feeling about this,” Cody said inwardly.
“Hmm, what will I gain if I join you?” Cody asked, crossing his legs.
“Wealth, power, popularity, influence and respect,” Leah said, her eyes glittering.
“We can offer you all of that and more, You’ll be part of something bigger than yourself, something that’s making a difference in the world”
“And you’ll be able to live a life of luxury, with all the best things that money can buy,” Leah said and Cody shook his head.
“I don’t need those,” Cody said.
“What do you mean?” Leah asked, her brow furrowed.
“Everyone wants to be successful and have nice things. What makes you different?”
Cody thought for a moment, trying to find the words to explain his feelings.
“I just don’t care about wealth or power or popularity,” He said.
“That’s because I already have it,” Cody said inwardly.
“Hmm, how about this? We could make your dream come true, I’m sure you have one” Leah said.
That word took Cody by surprise so he smiled.
“So what do you say, are you going to join us?” Leah asked and Cody shook his head.
“No, but I will think about it,” He replied.
Leah’s smile faltered for a moment, but then she recovered.
“Of course, you should take your time to think about it”
“This is a big decision, and we don’t want you to feel pressured”
“Just know that the offer is always on the table” Leah said and Cody nodded.
“Can I leave?” He asked and stood up.
“Sure, Luis will show you the way out,” Leah said.
Luis stepped forward and said,
“Follow me, please”
Cody followed Luis toward the door but was stopped by Mr. Robert.
“Wait” Mr. Robert said.
“Huh?” Cody and Luis turned.
“Before you go, can you tell us what your dream is?” Mr. Robert asked and Cody stared at him.
“My dream, my dream is to kill every one of you” Cody said inwardly.
“I’m sorry but that’s a bit private for now, but I’m sure you will all know it once the time comes”
“Just look forward to it and wait till I join you guys first” Cody smiled and continued to head toward the door with Luis.
As soon as he was about to walk out of the door he quickly glanced at the three of them and smiled darkly.
Then, without another word, he walked out the door with Luis, leaving the three of them staring after him.
After a few moments of silence, Leah stood up and turned to Robert and Susan.
“What do you think?” She asked.
Robert shook his head.
“I don’t know,” He said, his brow furrowed.
“Something about that kid is off, I don’t know what it is, but I don’t trust him”
“Are you thinking that we should rethink our offer cause I don’t see anything wrong with him?” Susan asked, her voice tinged with worry.
Robert hesitated for a moment, then shook his head.
“No, we can’t back out now, we need him”
“Besides, he’s just a kid. What could he possibly do to hurt us?” Robert said.
“I don’t know, but I have a bad feeling about this,” Leah said.
“That’s because the kid declined all those wealth, power, popularity, luxury you offer him” Susan said.
“Yeah, I have never seen anyone decline such an offer before, but to be honest I respect his decision” Susan continued.
Leah raised her brows. “You do?”
“Yes, He has proven that he doesn’t need all those things you offered him, he already has other things that we don’t know of” Susan said.
“That’s true,” Leah said thoughtfully.
“He did say he had a dream”
“What do you think his dream is?” Susan asked.
Leah shook her head.
“I have no idea, but wh@tëver it is, it must be important to him if he was willing to give up all those other things for it”
“But what if his dream is something that could be harmful to us?” Robert asked, a hint of concern in his voice.
“That’s a valid concern,” Leah said.
“But we can’t judge him based on speculation, we have to give him a chance”
“You’re right,” Robert said, nodding.
“I just hope we’re not making a mistake”
Leah smiled.
“I understand your concern, but we’ll be fine I have a feeling that this kid is going to be a valuable asset to our gang”
Leah, Susan and Robert spent the rest of the afternoon discussing how to proceed with Cody.
They agreed that they would continue to try to recruit him, but they would be careful not to pressure him.
They also decided to keep an eye on him, just in case.
MEANWHILE OUTSIDE.
Cody followed Luis down a long hallway and through a set of double doors.
As they walked, he noticed that the walls were covered in paintings and tapestries, all depicting scenes of wealth and power.
The opulence made him feel a bit uneasy, and he began to wonder what kind of organization/gang this was.
Eventually, they reached a large door at the end of the hallway and Cody suddenly smirked when he noticed a gun behind Luis’ pocket.
“Is that your gun?” Cody asked, pointing to the weapon.
Luis’s eyes widened and he quickly reached for the gun, but before he could grab it, Cody had already taken it from his pocket.
“What are you doing?” Luis asked, his voice shaking with fear.
“I’m sorry, but this is payback for making me fall asleep” Cody smirked, rolling the gun with his finger then pointing it at Luis.
