GENRE: Dark romance & Thriller

Setting: New York City 21st century
.
Lord Dom occupied himself with his thoughts, shooting arrows in the archery range. Each bullseye he hit brought another assumption to his mind.

“Where have I met her?”
“Why did Aria chose her?”
“Who’s she?”
“Why can’t I figure her out?”
“Why can’t I get her off my head?”
“Is she sent from the east?”
“Did I met her in Chicago?”
“Is she an enemy?”
“Who the fvck are you?!”

He roared when he was out of arrows, and Jake approached him with more arrows and a bottle of water.

“Who took you so long?”

“Forgive me, boss,”

“Who’s she?”

“Our search were the same, there is nothing out of the ordinary about her,”

“Just a college student on break who walked into my mansion despite her timidness, and was chosen by my daughter. Does that make sense?”

“I stationed one of our men to monitor the footage, and there is nothing out of the ordinary about her. Little lady seems to enjoy her company a lot, and they get along,”

“Stupld!” he shouted, and threw the bottle at Jake, “Very, stupld!”

“Forgive me, boss,”

“Why station someone to monitor her, do you have that much job that you can’t keep an eye on her?!”

“I’m sorry, boss,”

“Why did Aria chose her? Of everyone here, you’re closer to Aria,”

“Boss, I don’t dare to be closer to her than you,”

“Yes. But Aira knows the things to share with me and what she shares with others. She is more opened to her friends for certain reasons. I want you to find out Aria’s reason for choosing her,”

“I can’t dare to regard myself as someone worthy to be called her friend,”

“I was attacked in Chicago,” he muttered, and Jake looked at him immediately.

“What?”

“Yes. I decide to keep it a secret because I can’t point fingers. Luca wouldn’t betray me, it’s the east trying to come between us so I decide to keep it low, and investigate it,”

“Boss, I’ll get the details from Frown, I’ll investigate this myself,”

“No, you shouldn’t. You should do what I order you to. I’ll fake care of this, and you watch over my daughter. That’s your assignment. There is something about that nanny that I can’t figure out. She could be somehow related to my attack in Chicago. Due to some strange reasons, I can’t remember everyone I encountered that night,”

“Boss! Then you must know this,”

“Split it,”

“She… she is a college student from Chicago,” Jake said, and Lord Dom’s eyes widened in disbelief.

“What?! I thought you reported everything!”

“Forgive me, boss. I didn’t realize I held that back,” he said, and went on his knee.

“Chicago… she is from Chicago. Now I want you to gather everything you can find on her. Every single thing. Who she met, what she does, and what she eats. Everything!”

“Consider it done, boss,”

“This can’t be a coincidence,”

“Boss, if you’re unsettled, I can interrogated her immediately,”

“No. Aria chooses her, so you’ve to be careful with her. Don’t hurt her, you’ll be hurting Aria too,”

“Yes, boss,”

“Jake, I trust no one. I don’t trust you or anyone. I only trust myself to keep my daughter safe. Will you pledge your life to my daughter?” he muttered, and Jake bowed his head.

“I am going to protect lady Aria with my life,”

“Good. If you fail I’ll klll you. If you run, I’ll find you, even to your d£ath, I’ll hunt you,”

“I’ll never fail, boss!”

“Never say never,” Lord Dom muttered, and picked an arrow.

He shot the arrrow and missed the target, “I never missed my target, but I just lost it because I was relent,” he muttered, and shot another arrow, “I focused this time and hit the bullseye. So, never say never,” he muttered, and continued shooting.

“I’ll always be on guard, boss,”

“Resume to Aria’s quarter tomorrow,” he said, and Jake looked at him, “You will be her personal bodyguard till I unveil the mystery behind the Chicago incidence,”

“Your wish is my command, boss,”

Celia tossed and turned on her bed unable to sleep, everything that happened was really unbelievable, but she has been through a lot and always accepted her fate, and this time, she made up her mind to accept it as well.

She did nothing the whole day but tour around with Aria. If she didn’t have that heinous experience during the supposed interview, she would’ve been convinced that Aria was just an ordinary cheerful little girl.

After touring for what seemed like forever, they entered a gallery-like hallway with different paintings hanging on the wall.

“It’s so beautiful in here,” Celia found herself saying, and Aria smiled.

“My nanny painted everything, my former nanny…”

“Wow. She is so talented. Did she also paint the one in that room…”

“Yes. That was her last painting before she left. It was nature, but she painted it in tears which explains why the painting looks sad. My nanny once told me that a painting can be described depending on how the painter felt while painting it,”

“Wow. I never thought of that,”

“But you got it right,”

“I know,”

“Do you paint?” Aria asked, and she shook her head.

“I don’t,”

“So, how do you understand it?”

“I don’t know. Maybe it’s just my instinct,”

“Then you were lucky,”

“No. I have never been,”

“What do you mean?”

“I wasn’t born lucky, I was born at the expense f my mother’s life and struggled to survive this far. It wasn’t luck, it’s just me,”

“Then, we are the same,” Aria grumbled, and she looked at her.

“Hun?”

“My mother also dled when I was born, and I grew up strong to survive this far,” she said, and Celia shook her head.

She can never compare herself to Aria or put them in the same boat but she knows better than arguing with her.

“Then… I believe we will get along,”

“Of course. I like you already,” Aria said, and embraced her.
*
They continue looking at the painting together, and a particular painting of a dragon caught her attention— that was the design of thetattoo on the wrist of her nightstand.

“This… this painting…” she grumbled, pointing at the painting.

“That’s a dragon. Have you ever seen a dragon painting before?” Aria asked, and she shook her head.

“Not that… I have seen it before but I can’t remember where,”

“Have you been to my dad’s office before?” Aria asked, and Celia looked at her, “No, there is no way you had,”

“Is there something about your father relating to this…” she slurred.

No matter how she tried to think against it, the dragon paint left her with a lot of question. That was the exact drawing on the wrist of her nightstand, and on Lord Dom.

“Yes. It represent our family. My grandfather was the dragon himself and my dad has it tattooed on his wrist. I actually don’t know what it symbolizes,”

“Your father is the only one with such tattoo?”

“Why are you interested in that? I don’t like women who are interested in my dad,” Aria snapped, and Celia swallowed hard, controlling herself from scoffing.

There is no way she could be interested in a mafia boss, she rather shave off her hair and flee to Asia to be a monk than be interested in him but she can’t deny the fact that he was breathtaking. She is just a girl with a soft heart.
.
“No way!” she shouted, and Aria shot her a glare.

“What is wrong with my dad?”

“No, I mean… no way. I’m more interested in you, in being your nanny,”

“Better. Because you can never be my mummy. A lot of women tried, and one is still persistent,”

“She must’ve lost her mind,” she grumbled.

“What?”

“I mean… they must’ve lost thier mind to try to be your mummy. Only you can chose who will be your mummy,“

“Yes. That’s why I’ll never allow any woman try to crawl into our lives,”

“You don’t want your daddy to get married?”

“He can never!”

“What if the persistent woman win him over?”

“Then I’ll klll her,” Aria blurted, and brought out a knife from God-knows-where.

“What? A knife? Do you carry that around?” Celia shivered as she remembered everything that happened earlier.

“Just incase. I’m very good with knifes. Dad refused to teach me how to use guns…” she grumbled, and Celia gasped.

“First, let’s put that away,” she said, and collected the knife.

“Because you shouldn’t carry it around. The house is surrounded by arm men, no one can harm you here,”

“No. Dad said that I shouldn’t trust anyone,”

Celia exhaled heavily, “Then you should trust me and put it away,”

“Why should I trust you?”

“Because… I’m your nanny, you chose me,”

“Because I like you,”

“And that is why you should trust me. Like and trust works together. Do you still have more on you?” she asked, and Aria nodded.

She searched her body and seize all the knives she found, putting them all away.

“Why?” Aria grumbled.

“Because you should trust me,”

“But you can’t even protect me,”

“And I won’t harm you either, no one will,” she said, and Aria batted her lashes in thoughts.

Celia thought of a way to change the topic and glanced at the painting.

“Oh… I believe this conversation started with this paintings,”

“Yes, the painting,” Aria smiled brightly.

“I believe it must’ve been common now… a lot of people has the tattoo as well,”

“Yes. A lot of people imitate the design, and some draw it in their wrist too. It’s very common,”

“Yes. Very very common, even in Chicago,”

“Do you know someone who has it?”

“Not really… but it must be very common…” she grumbled, remembering that night.
*
They did nothing significant the whole day, and she retreated to the nanny’s room later at night.

The wardrobe was filled with a lot of uniforms like they didn’t want her to wear other clothes, and many comfortable footwear.

She exhaled heavily and went to shower before going to bed but she couldn’t sleep. Everything happening all seems like a dream, and she wish she could wake up from it all, so with that she couldn’t even close her eyes.

If everything that happened wasn’t reality, then it’s all a nightmare.

She finally successfully sleep and jotted up from bed immediately the moment the door burst open and the big boss barged in.

“Yes, I was right. It could only be a dream, all of these is just a dream and this big boss is my reality…” she cried.

“Do you think you can run from me?” the big boss muttered within clenched teeth walking closer to her.

She has never been lucky in her life, and escaping the big boss could only be luck which she lacked.

“Please… don’t hurt me…” she cried as he was fast approaching her with an evil smirked plastered on his face.

He was few feet’s away from her and she closed her eyes in fear. When she opened her eyes, she saw a hand held his hand, looking up to see her savior but his face were too blurry for her to see, the tattoo on his wrist was the only thing she saw.

“Mr. Dragon?” she shouted, and jotted up from bed.
